Altercation between political group members goes viral BY BRANDON RIDGELY OPINION EDITOR A video of a conflict between two WVU student organizations, one liberal, one conservative, has been posted on FoxNews.com and shared widely on social media. In the video, Kelley Denham, president of the Leftist Alliance, pushed and threatened to grab the cell phone of Turning Point member Michael Quinlan. Turning Point is a national conservative student organization; the Leftist Alliance describes itself as, “a radical leftist collective.” The Alliance was meeting in the Mountainlair Wednesday night when members of Turning Point entered the meeting to see if they were interested in scheduling a political debate. The four Turning Point members were asked to leave and videotaped themselves leaving. The conflict with Denham
was captured in a second video that was shot soon after in the hallway of the Mountainlair when Denham followed the Turning Point members out. “This is my only comment on the situation,” Denham said. “Turning Point claimed this was some sort of joint meeting or some debate, that’s nonsense and they were never invited. They came into our meeting already filming. They were asked to leave and did not and wouldn’t identify themselves as Turning Point USA members. This was a hit piece plain and simple, a targeted attack.” The videos have been sent to Student Conduct for review according to John Bolt, director of University Relations. University Police has investigated and neither party involved wishes to press charges, Bolt said. Quinlan said the video shows how conservatives are being targeted. “Conservatives not only can be the subject of

student physically assaulted and cursed at a conservative leader on Wednesday, grabbing for the man’s phone multiple times in an attempt to prevent him from filming the exchange, according to video of the encounter posted on social media.” Here’s Quinlan’s explanation of what happened as his group was leaving the Leftist
Alliance meeting: Kaitlynn (Critchfield, a Turning Point member) pulled out her phone in order to film us leaving peacefully. She did this in case they were to report us and say we were a disturbance, and that video would prove otherwise. We exited the Tygart Room once asked and went to the lobby of the second floor of the Mountainlair. “We stood there talking for about a minute before Kelley came running towards us shouting, ‘Why the f**k were you in our meeting?’ and ‘Why the f**k did you record?!’ Kelley was exhibiting a violent aura, so Kaitlyn attempted to pull out her phone to record for our own protection. He leaped towards her, grabbed her wrist and attempted to pull her phone out of her hands. It was at this time that I began to film. “Sadly, while I was attempting to leave the confrontation, my finger hit the lock button on my phone, thus halting the
recording. After the recording ends, Kelley pushed me up against the wall near the elevators and called me a ‘f**king fascist conservative Nazi.’ “Stephen Thompson, also in the video, got between us. Kelley then stormed off, looking back at us and saying ‘You all are done!’ while making a throat slit motion.” Quinlan said some on social media asked why he didn’t retaliate. “If I was on video retaliating, many would claim that I am an ‘angry, violent conservative,’ who was looking for an excuse to throw a punch, which is the farthest thing from the truth.” A statement from the University included, “West Virginia University continues to stand behind the right of its students, faculty and staff to express their ideas and points of view, but also remains adamant that it be done in a peaceful, civil and respectful manner.”
Kroger offers convenience with curbside pickup BY ADRIANNE UPHOLD ASSOCIATE CITY EDITOR Customers are enthusiastic about ClickList, a new online grocery ordering service, at the Krogers in the Suncrest Towne Centre. Joushua Dalton, a Kroger customer, had trouble with pushing carts around a busy store and wished ClickList was accessible years ago.
“Well, I’m getting old, and it’s hard to do basic grocery shopping at my age,” Dalton said. “I’ve been in a wheelchair all my life. I can’t put all my groceries in the tiny carts on the wheelchairs they offer. This will help me feel more independent.” Once a customer has created an account, ClickList provides up to 40,000 grocery options to choose from. Once the shopping is done, customers then select a one hour time frame that
they can pick up the order from the curbside. ClickList is open from 8 a.m.– 9 p.m. and customers are able to use coupons online. Jason Talerico, the E-Commerce field specialist at the Suncrest Kroger, sees opportunity for customers with disabilities, senior citizens and people who are too busy to grocery shop. “We start to see a jump in customers that we didn’t have before,” Talerico said. “Once
they put in their order they don’t even have to leave their front seat. We put all the orders in their car. It helps a lot for people who wouldn’t have been able to get groceries without help.” Krogers that have ClickList hire new staff to prepare, package and deliver the orders. The Suncrest location has almost 20 ClickList employees and is still expanding. “Once our revenue goes up
in this location more employees will be hired. For the past week that it has been open, I see more customers using the online services we offer,” Talerico said. Lorri Flury, a Kroger customer, always pushed shopping to the weekends because of her busy schedule. “I work full time and grocery shopping gets delegated to the weekends,” Flury said. “I try to go shopping after work, but once I get off all I want to do is
go home. I don’t want to go anywhere. I really can’t wait to try (ClickList) out.” The Suncrest location is the third in West Virginia that The Kroger Co. has opened. Stores on Emily Drive in Clarksburg and Barboursville also provide ClickList. A fee of $4.95 is charged for each order, but the fee is currently being waived for the first three orders. This week’s specials: After a long day of classes, eating at home might seem like too much effort. However, it doesn’t have to be. These easy meals can be made again and again throughout the semester after stocking up on just a few staple items at the grocery store. By spending only $71 up front, replacing a restaurant meal with one of these recipes each week can save hundreds of dollars over time.
BLUEBERRY BANANA OVERNIGHT OATS

WVU student brings original production to life BY ERIN DRUMMOND ASSOCIATE CULTURE EDITOR
As the conductor, author, lyricist, theorist, pianist, vocal coach and businessman for the production, senior music composition major Luke Diamond worked hard to bring his original music drama to life. The show, titled “Ma Grâce te Suffit,” is based on the fairytale “Aurore et Aimée” by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont. The show focuses on a girl who constantly blames God for the tragic events taking place in her life, only to learn that God had another plan in mind by using the events for her good. “It’s a story of great tragedy and loss, and while not everyone has suffered the same losses as the character Aurore, I am certain that we’ve all been through hardships that cause us to feel as if we’ve hit rock bottom,” Diamond said. “The title is a promise from God that literally means ‘my grace suffices you,’ and this work delves into the validity of that promise.” The show stars WVU voice performance alumni Kathryn Shepas and Steven Patrick, voice performance major Hannah Friend and Morgantown fifth grade student Toni Rose. The orchestra is filled with WVU music students, while the choir, directed

by Kym Scott, assistant professor and director of choral activities at WVU, is comprised of students and Morgantown community members. “Luke has worked extremely hard on putting this production together,” Scott said. “He has had to consider every aspect that goes into putting together a professional production and has worked tirelessly over the last few months to make sure that every element has received his full attention. I believe that Luke’s passion for music, along with his drive and exceptional work ethic will ensure that this will be a wonderful show.” WVU voice faculty members Rob Chafin, Hope Koehler and William Koehler can also be found in the production. Along with featured WVU dancers, who were organized and choreographed by assistant professor of dance General Hambrick. “Not a single element of this production would
be possible if it weren’t for the support of the teachers who helped and encouraged me,” Diamond said, also noting the hard work of the entire cast. “The music for the production is anything but easy and the performers have all put a lot of time and energy into learning their parts. Bringing the production to life has certainly taught me that I reap what I sow, because the difficulties and complexities I wrote for the performers to play, I now have to guide them through from the conductor’s podium.” Due to it being a student project, Diamond did not receive funding for the production. However, a GoFundMe page was set up to assist him. As of now, it has raised more than $1,000 of the $5,000 goal. Show times are at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 in the Gladys Davis Theater located at WVU’s Creative Arts Center. The show is free and open to the public.
I recently watched the 1988 movie “Heathers” on Netflix. The film centers on Veronica Sawyer, played by Winona Ryder, who is the only notsame-named member of the “Heathers” popular girl clique at her high school. Feeling unsatisfied with her current “friendship” situation, Veronica links up with Christian Slater’s sociopathic J.D. and is roped into his plot to kill all the cool kids. Often heralded as “the original ‘Mean Girls,’” “Heathers” is a wonderfully creative dark comedy that puts a spin on the classic high school movies, embodying the angst of the late ‘80s and ‘90s. As much as I enjoyed the plot and dialogue of the movie, the visuals are what drew me in, especially the fashion. Each member of the Heathers clan has their own perfectly color-coordinated wardrobe, with Heather Chandler always in red, Heather Duke in green, Heather McNamara in yellow and
Veronica in blue. Veronica is my personal favorite, although all of the Heathers have a similar wardrobe of plaid skirt suits, big ‘80s hair accessorized with bows and matching socks and tights. S ome of Veronica’s looks match those of the Heathers, but with her own dark and unique twist. For a party she wears a black overall-style dress layered over a gray off-theshoulder sweater and accessorized with a brooch and powder blue tights. She chooses a fabric floral pin on a black button-up jacket and skirt set with a bowler hat for one of the film’s funerals. Veronica’s school looks include navy floral embroidered bomber jackets and black lace
bralettes paired with a blue ruffle skirt and gray cardigan. In one of my favorite looks from the movie, Veronica wears a brown jacket covered in antique-looking jewels over a light blue turtleneck sweater. To get Veronica’s look, stick to a few key aesthetic principles: a color palette of black, blue and gray, structured suit separates and accessories— especially brimmed hats and sparkling vintage brooches. A thrift store is a good place to start looking, but H&M and Nasty Gal are other options. H&M has a large selection of basic suit pieces, most for $40 or less. Look to Nasty Gal for accessories, especially brooches. There is currently a lot for sale on the site.

WVU continues to work through depth issues BY NEEL MADHAVAN SPORTS WRITER
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL With only seven players in its rotation, the WVU women’s basketball team continues to struggle with depth as it reaches the midpoint of Big 12 Conference play. “It is what it is, if people aren’t playing, I don’t have a bench to put in and I have to put up with it,” said WVU head coach Mike Carey. “That’s probably the most frustrating thing right now for me. I have to put up with
people not playing hard sometimes because I don’t have anyone to put in.” The lack of depth could explain why the Mountaineers have had issues in the second halves of some games this season, and the third quarters especially. Since the win over TCU on Dec. 29 in the Big 12 opener, the Mountaineers have been outscored 188118 in the third quarters of their last eight games, including being outscored 3119 in their win over Texas Tech on Wednesday night. “In the third quarter, I don’t know what it is (about
the) third quarter,” Carey said. “I guess we just have to act like the game hasn’t started yet. Our third quarters all year haven’t been good.” The Mountaineers are a young team with their best basketball likely ahead of them. The 15-player roster contains just two seniors, with starting center Lanay Montgomery playing the bulk of the minutes. The rest of the roster is comprised of four freshmen, five sophomores and four juniors. In addition to Montgomery, sophomores Tyn-

and they got to be consistently playing hard. “What we have always had in the past, if they don’t want to play hard put somebody in. Got another person sitting on the bench that will play hard, don’t have that this year.” Minutes add up when there are just seven players in the rotation, which can take a toll on a player. Martin and Ray are both aver-
aging more than 33 minutes per game, while Muldrow is averaging more than 28 and Montgomery more than 24. “It’s hard,” Muldrow said. “It’s really tiring physically and mentally, but Coach teaches us to just push through it. If we really want to win the game, it isn’t about who plays or how many minutes they play. If we want to win, we have to go out and get it.”
