Chanel Cruise ’23 Brad Pitt Emily Ratajkowski

Gigi Hadid

Angelina Jolie Phoebe Dynevor Tory Burch

CHOOS!

Were Gigi, Kendall, et al actually onto something? We ask The Marie Robinson Salon’s colorist-to-thestars Joel Mowen about the copper obsession.

Are you onboard?

Yes! It’s refreshing to not take color so seriously, especially with everything that’s going on.

SCENE • Bonjour, darlings. Oh, how we’ve missed your faces—and

the summer temps, too! We’re back for another season of sun, style, and soirées, and we’re taking you along for the ride. • Have you heard? The former summer Southampton rental of Brangelina has sold for $13.6 million. The new lucky owner of the lavish estate on Ox Pasture Road can count Tory Burch as a neighbor. • The team behind EHP Resort is cutting the ribbon on two new culinary concepts: the see-and-be-seen at French bistro Enchanté (formerly Red Bar) and open-air eatery Crash Cantina at Inn Spot, which promises major sunset views.

Does it suit non-supermodels?

From copper to fire to soft golden strawberry red, there’s a shade for everyone. Work with your colorist to find the tone for your skin. I recommend clients who have red or pink undertones to go with a more balanced copper gold hue versus vibrant red. This summer, the truth finally comes out: Reds have more fun!

What else should we consider?

The amount of maintenance you can commit to. It’s important to know what previous color processes you have done as this impacts the ability to hold color, especially since red has the tendency to fade.

CRUISING

WITH CHANEL!

Life in the fast lane, à la Chanel. Virginie Viard sped off to Monte Carlo to showcase her Formula 1– inspired Cruise ’23 offering, which was chock-full of checkerboard prints, overalls, fingerless gloves, and red-hot leather. Plus! Chanel logo helmets, which, le sigh, won’t be for sale after all. In that case, we’ll settle for a quilted tennis racket.

Who else is doing it?

We used a shine-enhancing gloss on actress Rose Leslie for The Time Traveler’s Wife—one layer that is more opaque to add depth, and another layer that’s sheer, like watercolor, to create radiant tones that reflect more light. This lets us reapply more often without damage and keep the red vibrant and rich.

Get to Know Pritika!

Pritika Swarup is a girl on the go; model, influencer, Operation Smile ambassador, and founder of Prakti Beauty are just some of her résumé talking points.

Busy bee! How do you find time for fun? I have to be really intentional with carving out time to relax. I love to spend time with my family and friends, whether it’s going on long walks, bingeing Netflix, or going out to dinner.

Ahead of our next pool party, we’re keeping the sizzling new Jimmy Choo campaign in mind. Precious Lee, Barbara Palvin, and Madison Meadrick gave us the inspo we need, teaming their crystalstudded stilettos and arm candy with attitude galore. Now, where can we find a backdrop like this for our Insta uploads? Precious Lee and Barbara Palvin

IN A BARBIE WORLD!

DRESSES OF THE DAILY!

Who else could we picture in the role of Barbie in the doll’s first-ever live action film. A promo pic shows Margot Robbie as the Mattel icon IRL, with Ryan Gosling confirmed to play Ken (when does that promo pic drop!?). It’s a long way until the July 2023 release date, so in the meantime, whet your appetite with the new pool floats and swimwear collab between Barbie x Funboy. Life’s fantastic! What’s new? I’m designing my first capsule collection with a Milan-based footwear brand. Can’t wait to share!

What can all brands be doing better? Representation of all races is important. It’s time for brands to transition to a more holistic approach to beauty—not just physical beauty, but championing beauty from the inside out.

Sorbets, sunsets, and the sweet swirls of a Tequila sunrise cocktail—doesn’t this figure-hugging ombré silk maxi from Nicole Miller’s Summer ’22 collection just scream vacay dressing?

to Priti On-the-Go Essentials; a mission trip for Operation Smile; and building out the Suman Saroj Initiative, our social responsibility program that provides sustainable income opportunities for village craftswomen.

Fashion obsessions?

Summer plans?

ChicMOMENTS Machine Gun Kelly, Presenter to Adam Ballheim, Music Stylist of the Year “You came in a couple of years ago and after I had been in the public eye for 10 years, you finally let me step out into the world feeling like a true representation of myself. I’m still a vulnerable kid inside and a soft soul. I want to thank you for letting me show the world who I am.”

Adam Ballheim “I really love collaborating with [Machine Gun Kelly] and creating these moments. Earlier today he told me that [Dolce & Gabbana floral-embellished coat] was the most subtle look that I brought him.”

Megan Fox, Presenter to Maeve Reilly, Style Curator, Presented by Sunglass Hut “Maeve has been a mentor to me on this journey. She’s met me where I am but has also encouraged me to push behind what I thought I could do and what was possible. For me, it’s been a much deeper process than just wearing clothes and being fashionable. It has a lot to do with my self-confidence and the way I project myself out to the world, which she’s helped to shape. So much gratitude to you, Maeve!”

Maeve Reilly “To me, it’s not just about clothes. The fact that I can help instill confidence in people, that they can go out and face the world and feel strong and feel like they are representing themselves the way they want to is such an honor. It’s about the energy those clothes can put forth. To help create the armor that you all have to take into this crazy, tough, and sometimes painful world is so cool to me and really what it’s all about.”

The Daily Front Row’s sixth-annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards were held last month, celebrating the fashion industry’s most talented behind-the-scenes artists. The evening, held in the stunning ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, in Beverly Hills, was hosted by Derek Blasberg and brought out Kris Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Russell James, Tiffany Haddish, Brandon Maxwell, Christina Aguilera, Etienne Ortega, Megan Fox, Machine Gun Kelly, Adam Ballheim, Maeve Reilly, Paris Hilton, Gigi Gorgeous, Zoey Deutch, Elizabeth Stewart, Brie Larson, Bryce Scarlett, Barbie, Lisa McKnight, the adorable daughters of Sean Combs—Jessie James, D’Lila Star, and Chance—and more for an unforgettable event. Presenters and honorees celebrated one another in emotional, heartfelt, and sincere speeches— providing lots of moments for both serious reflection and laughter. Tiffany Haddish, Presenter to Brandon Maxwell, Designer of the Year “This designer was the first person ever to make a custom dress for me. He was the first person who ever said, ‘Yes! I want to make her look beautiful.’ I’ll never forget it was my first time going to the Oscars. I had just come back from Africa, and I wanted to wear something from my father’s country [Eritrea]. I went to bury my father. My stylist at the time said I couldn’t wear an African dress because this was a highfashion moment. I said, ‘No. I’m going to represent my people.’ My father told me before he passed away to always make sure to uplift your people, look out for your people. Respect your ancestors, respect your heritage. If you ever get a chance to show people where you come from and who you are, do that. Always be who you are. My stylist was worried I was going to be on the worst-dressed list. He said I needed to wear this

Brandon Maxwell dress. I said, ‘Give me Brandon Maxwell’s phone number!’ He said, ‘No!’ But he forgot who he was dealing with. I know a lot of people. I did my research and got Brandon’s number. I called him and told him I love the dress, I want to wear the dress, but it’s important to me to honor my father. He said, ‘Honey, it’s important for you to feel good. In order for you to look good, you have to feel good.’ He said if I wanted to wear that dress that I should wear it. He said I could wear his dress later on. I fell in love. I fell in love because he was willing to allow me to be me.”

While your talent and passion for beauty have been celebrated around the world, it’s your friendship, kindness, inner strength, and loyalty that are the reasons I am here to honor you tonight. All work aside, you have been a true friend. We’ve traveled the world together and have had each other’s backs in some of life’s most challenging moments.”

Etienne Ortega “This award proves that even with odds against you, anything is possible…no matter where you come from, you just have to believe. This award opens a new chapter in my life, and I feel like it’s just the beginning and I have a lot of work to do, but I’m ready. Thank you so much for this award. I will never forget this day!”

From Juicy Couture jumpsuits to UGG boots, to colorful luxury bags and big statement sunglasses, Paris has put brands and designers on the map before the term influencer ever became part of our vocabulary.” Gigi Gorgeous

Paris Hilton “To be appreciated as a businesswoman means the world to me. I feel so blessed to have the career and empire that I’ve built for more than two decades. My younger self would be so proud. When I was still a little girl and after surviving the traumatic experiences I went through as a teen, I would have never known that I would be so lucky to help pioneer today’s phenomenon of influencer and celebrity culture. I’ve been called phrases like the ‘OG Influencer,’ and now ‘Queen of the Metaverse.’ Like my inspiration Marilyn Monroe, when it comes to fashion I’ve always dared to be iconic.”

Brie Larson, Presenter to Bryce Scarlett, Hair Artist of the Year “I wouldn’t look in the mirror before I left to go to an event. But Bryce has shown me how to feel beautiful and empowered, just by being who I am. What Bryce does with hair is he takes what is already in you and brings it out. I don’t feel like when I walk on a carpet that I’m somebody different, that I’m playing Brie Larson. I’m walking out as myself.”

Bryce Scarlett “My success is a direct product of the incredible talents that I’ve had the opportunity to work with, for, and alongside in this industry. It is this community of artists that has inspired, challenged, shaped, and guided me as I made my way. Thank you to anyone who has ever given me the chance to show what I can do.”

One of the most artistic things about her is how she approaches what’s ‘in.’ When asked how she interprets trends, she said, ‘Trends have no effect on what I do. It starts with whom I’m working with and what we love.’ Elizabeth is like that, too. She is a camel trench, Levis 501, white button-up of a human. Classic. Never out of style.”

I was on a flight home watching a documentary that featured Russell James and his career. I thought he might be able to give Kendall some insight. It took me a bit to get a hold of him. But when I did, he was so gracious with his time, helped her with introductions, and the rest is history.” Kendall: “Russell was the first person who believed in me and gave me the confidence to pursue my dream. I will forever be grateful.”

Russell James “Nothing would have been possible without opportunity and mentorship. I would not have had that ability were it not for the opportunities. The myth that people get a ‘lucky break’ is often just that. You need a recurring series of lucky breaks backed up by hard work. And more than anything you need mentorship. Richard Avedon gave me time in his lab and explained the print. I harassed the poor man and he caved. Photographers who let me sweep their floors and ask unerring questions. Hair artists, makeup artists, and stylists who explained their mysterious arts to me. I try in every aspect to pay that forward. My main observation is it’s up to every one of us to be mentors. If we do that, everything works.”

Time to reach for those sunglasses, the reigning color palette for the season is bright, bold, and begging to be noticed. Neon shades like lime green, trafficstopping orange, hot-to-trot pink, and acid yellow aren’t for the fainthearted, but they promise maximum impact with minimal effort. Too much, too soon? Dip your toe into the waters by mixing in a punchy accessory, handbag, or über-popular pair of platform shoes. Fortune favors the brave.

If there’s one thing The Daily Front Row has learned over the past two decades, it’s how to throw one hell of a party. During New York Fashion Week in February, the fashion set descended on Paradise Club at the Times Square EDITION to raise a toast to our 20th anniversary. The event, which was presented by Kérastase, was the week’s hottest ticket. Our thanks to American Dream, Sam Edelman, Whispering Angel, and FIJI Water. Guests arrived at the Cirque du Soleil-esque Paradise Club, the brainchild of Studio 54’s Ian Schrager, to a red carpet moment and a disco ball–inspired photo installation, thanks to Flux photo booth in the popular American Dream Lounge. Knowing full well that our party people delight in showing off their looks, there was also a 360-degree Glam Cam, courtesy of Kérastase, in the club’s main room. What’s a good outfit without the snap? Chicsters coming out to celebrate us included Shanina Shaik

and her supermodel bestie Sara Sampaio, Tyler Cameron, Karen Elson, Maye Musk, Larsen Thompson and Gavin Casalegno, Stefano Tonchi, Gary Wassner, Ken Downing, Dennis Basso, Christian Juul Nielsen, Jessica Wang, Fern Mallis, Cynthia Rowley, Kit Keenan, Serena Kerrigan, Cora Emmanuel, Sophie Sumner, Douglas Joseph, Keke Lindgard, Garrett Neff, Kyett and Alex Lundqvist, and many more. After snapping selfies and catching up with old friends, attendees headed to discover Sam Edelman’s fragrance, Signature, and try on pairs of the popular Kia style in gold, which they also got to take home. Guests could also take a break from the dance floor to visit the American Dream Lounge for an incredible disco photo moment and learn more about the New Jersey–based retail and entertainment complex. There was nonstop entertainment for the well-heeled guests, who sipped on chilled glasses of Whispering Angel and bottles of FIJI Water. In return for all the love we felt on the night, we had to make sure that we gave our guests a very Daily moment. Enter “Cher” (but not as you know her) and Poppy from DreamWorks Water Park at American Dream, who made for quite the duo. Above the crowd, Paradise Club’s aerial artists wowed, while DJ Isaac Likes ensured the dance floor was full all night long. Everyone in attendance received a goody bag to take home, with products from Kérastase, a chic Jonathan Adler candle from American Dream, skincare saviors from Mario Badescu, plus more from Sam Edelman, Lightbox jewelry, Roger Dubuis, and Vivrelle. Here’s to the next 20!

PrettyDELICIOUS

Scents

Shay Mitchell has come a long way from the breakout role on Pretty Little Liars that made her a household name. Now a social media star followed by more than 30 million people and a fully fledged entrepreneur, not to mention a mom of one expecting her second child, her days are filled with a myriad of projects, including the launch of her third fragrance in collaboration with Cacharel, Yes I Am Delicious. In its signature lipstick-shaped bottle, the alluring chocolatey and rich scent is, as you would guess, good enough to eat. With such yumminess on the brain, we called the Toronto native to chat L.A. food recs, cravings, and all of life’s sweet moments. Delicieux! By FREYA DROHAN

Tell us about your upbringing! I was lucky to have a great upbringing in a multigenerational, multicultural home in Canada. I was born in Toronto but moved to Vancouver when I was young. It’s so beautiful and such a cute little city. Despite being in such a great place, I never really liked school and had a pretty tough time—as many do! Middle school and high school are rough and I encountered my fair share of bullies but was luckily surrounded by a great group of friends, so I felt insulated in that way. Did you want to be an actress from a young age? I don’t know that I was targeting being an actress at this particular age, but I always had a flair for the dramatics and performance, and I knew that I wanted to do something unordinary in life. What’s the most Canadian thing about you? God, so much. My love of Tim Hortons? My passion for maple syrup? My tendency to say “eh…”? What’s your earliest memory associated with scent or smells? Fragrance is so powerful because familiar smells can catapult you to another time and place. I can smell my gram or my mom at times when passing by strangers and remember the feeling of being young and close to them. What smell always makes you happy? The scent of concrete right after it rains; it takes me right back to my childhood. What does it mean to you to be the face of a campaign like this one? This is our third fragrance launch together for the Yes I Am Collection, and I’m so delighted with the long-term partnership that we’ve created. And I think that “collaboration” is truly the right word. I’ve loved getting to be involved with the creative direction and planning of the shoots; it feels like an extension of myself. I also love that Cacharel celebrates uniqueness and embracing all the differences that make us special. Especially in this day and age, it’s so important to support one another. What’s your favorite thing about this new variation? In a lot of ways Yes I Am Delicious feels like the sultry sister of Yes I Am Glorious. It’s super complementary in colors and notes, but also totally different. Yes I Am Delicious is very cocoa and hazelnut dominant, but then there’s also a zesty green tangerine note to balance everything out perfectly. How does it make you feel wearing it? I would say that the fragrance makes me feel balanced and in a great headspace. The perfume is all about inspiring self-love within its wearer. How do you prioritize self-love and time for yourself in your busy life? Honestly, it can be tough to take time for yourself when you’re working and being a mom, but I find I’m such a better person not only for myself, but for my family, when I can take a breather. Alone time these days usually means a quick workout or running to the store in silence. Even just a little time can go a long way in resetting and decompressing. Positive affirmations and living without regrets are also central. How do you incorporate that? Not affirmations, per se, but I do reframe “regrets” and make a concerted effort to be constructive about what some may call missteps. I tell myself they’re learning lessons

DAILYFRONTROW.COM

and focus on what I’ve taken away as a result, as opposed to beating myself up over something that could have been done differently. I’ll know for the next time! You’re passionate about speaking out about important causes. Why is it important to you as someone with a large platform? I mean, it’s hard to open up your e-mail or Instagram and not notice that there’s a lot that needs fixing in this world. There’s a lot of work we need to do collectively to take care of and improve upon a lot of things, and the first step toward that is awareness. And listen, I think it’s so great when some people are so passionate about one thing and they put their focus entirely on that, but for me the number of issues can feel overwhelming at times and I love being able to organically support organizations doing great things on a variety of subjects. You’re executive-producing your first network television show! What has that been like? Yes! The Cleaning Lady! It has been such an amazing experience, from identifying the project through to pitching, writing, shooting, and now renewal—yay! Due to COVID, I was unfortunately unable to be on set, but I was staying as involved as possible remotely and was over the moon with the public reception. It can be nerveracking to share something so personal, but I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout and team. Now, hopefully I’ll actually be able to go on set for Season 2! You’re always sharing fun content on social media. What types of accounts bring you joy? Thank you! I like to give as real of a glimpse over here as possible. There are so many amazing creators out there. I love Subway Creatures, Half Baked Harvest, Humans of NY, and Tanks Good News. We’re in your new locale, L.A., for the weekend. What should we do? Always food, and trust me I’m indulging my cravings at this stage in pregnancy. Prince Street Pizza always, salmon bowls from All Time, pasta from Della Terra, ice cream from Jeni’s. I am loving decaf coffee right now. I recently had Blue Bottle Coffee but also like this little Filipino-owned place on the East Side called Kindness and Mischief. I’ve been spending a lot of time taking hikes and hanging out in the park; I’m just enjoying these last few moments of being a family of three. Has being a mom changed your approach to fashion and beauty? It’s made me appreciate when I have the time to actually be fashionable or conduct a beauty routine that much more! A friend recently suggested we start a shoot day late so that I could “sleep in.” We laughed, because she doesn’t have kids yet and doesn’t yet realize that when the feet hit the floor in the morning, it’s go time! Some days I’m lucky to brush my teeth and slap on some moisturizer, so when I have time to indulge I truly enjoy it. Lastly, tell us something about you that your fans would be surprised to know! I’m double-jointed!

Did someone say cheers? You bet. Say bonsoir to the newest member of the Whispering Angel family: The Beach. Rosé has evolved to become not just the quintessential beverage of summer, but an entire lifestyle and state of mind. As such, our taste buds are piqued at the mere mention of the ocean-friendly and sustainably minded delectable blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah. We’re already daydreaming of what delicious fashion we’ll wear when we get acquainted with this divine new wine.

The Man From EARTH What’s new? I’m moving into designing in Palm Beach, and the new Garden Market is open for the season. Tell us about the market! Was this something you always wanted to add to Unlimited Earth Care? Yes, getting to share Unlimited Earth Care with more people was always a part of the plan. The fresh plants and flowers we sell at the Garden Market are all used in my designs, and it’s exciting to get to share the elements of a sustainable Hamptons garden and see what people create. All the herbs, flowers, plants, shrubs, and vegetables we carry are native or well-adapted options that I know do well in the Hamptons. Our staff and myself, if I’m not out in the field, are always happy to help people find what they’re looking for. Are most of the plants native? The plants are all native or well-adapted. The native species are all clearly labeled, so someone looking to create a garden with native plants that help local pollinators can easily do so. What kinds of accessories are you selling? We have a great selection of unique garden accessories— planters, outdoor furniture, lighting, and sculptures. Some options are modern and others are more updated traditional, so people can find a way to reflect their own styles in their natural spaces. Are there any items that are available exclusively at Unlimited Earth Care? Our collection is curated to suit the Unlimited Earth Care aesthetic—sustainable updated classics that enhance natural atmospheres and help draw the eye to certain areas. The selection of items we have is unique. What makes these products unique? The collection at Unlimited Earth Care is taking a garden further, and that can be subtle or grand. There are different ways to make a statement or create an inviting space for entertaining. That can mean an elegant modern fire pit or chrome spheres spinning and shining as they float in the pool. Do you offer delivery? Yes, we do, and full-service garden and landscape maintenance.

DAILYFRONTROW.COM

You have an event coming up in June to celebrate the market! Yes! We had to postpone the original opening party, but it’s now scheduled for June 25 at our Bridgehampton headquarters at 2249 Scuttle Hole Road, so we’re looking forward to getting to celebrate this new chapter for Unlimited Earth Care. Tell us about the Sossego outdoor furniture line you’re selling. Sossego offers modern Brazilian design. Its furniture is handcrafted from a wood that is naturally resistant to decay and fungi without the use of artificial preservatives. Its outdoor furniture is organic modern, sleek but warm. It’s a refined way to elevate any natural space. The right bench beneath a tree can create a whole world there. A lot of your work is about color. How did you become known as the go-to person for color? When everyone was doing all-white gardens in the ’90s, I took a risk and went all-in on color; it just felt right to me. Ever since then I’ve worked on creating atmospheres through carefully planned color palettes. Sometimes it’s bright and intense, other times, soft and romantic.

Frederico Azevedo

What trends have Hamptons customers been asking for lately? Vegetable gardens and pollinator gardens. People want to interact with the environment and find a way to connect with natural spaces. I design custom herb and vegetable gardens for clients; they’re a great activity for people who love to cook. Pollinator gardens are designed with native plants that attract birds, bees, and butterflies; they’re great for the environment. Maintaining local pollinator populations has become important in caring for the environment, and I’m finding people are more interested in that than ever. What’s an easy flower that everyone can grow in their garden that won’t take a lot of work. Is there such a thing!? Growing and caring for something is always work, and it depends on what kinds of soil people have. But some cheery options like pom-pom alliums are not so fussy, considering how gorgeous they look in bloom. Why is it important for you to connect with nature and the outdoors? I’ve always loved nature. As a child I was always outside, either rearranging the planters, tending to my vegetable garden, or spending time with animals. Natural spaces can create intense emotions; it’s important to seek out those experiences. Of course, it’s also particularly important for us to care for the environment now, and helping people cherish nature is a part of that. Your book is still available. Tell us about it. Yes, my book, Bloom: The Luminous Gardens of Frederico Azevedo, is available on Amazon, in our store, or from the publisher, Pointed Leaf Press. The elements of my natural design philosophy are divided by chapter—Green, Stone, Water—and I was able to reflect on the composition of my designs. What are you most looking forward to this summer? Summer is my season, I’m looking forward to seeing everything green and blooming again. I’m also looking forward to Sundays at Sunset Beach, cooking for my family out on the patio, going swimming, and entertaining in the garden. We always like to check in with your dog! How’s the pup? Thank you for asking! Our French bulldog, Louis, is doing great! We just celebrated his first birthday.

Well MATCHED

A mutual respect for each other brought Saunders agents Patty Oakley and Brian Leicht together to form the Oakley-Leicht team. Now they’re regarded as one of the most reputable and busiest teams around. They tell THE DAILY SUMMER how they came to work together, what every potential buyer should be asking, and about two new constructions they’re excited to share. By EDDIE ROCHE How did you two meet? Brian Leicht: We started out as two individual agents not really knowing each other, who happened to be fortunate enough in 2018 to have our desks located side by side in the Southampton office at Saunders. We quickly formed a friendship and admiration for each other’s experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm; offering to help each other out any time we needed it became pretty regular, and before we knew it we transitioned to the Oakley-Leicht Team, becoming one of the most successful teams in the Hamptons. What differentiates your team from other realtors? Patty Oakley: We never stop! We offer more than 50-plus years of combined sales experience and are 100 percent committed to our work, clients, and customers. We believe that good listening skills, attention to details, and immediate follow-up are all critical attributes to our success. Sharing our knowledge about the “state of the market” has proven to be an invaluable asset for buyers and sellers in this aggressive market. What are some of the properties you’re working with right now? Leicht: We’re excited to have just launched two new constructions: 420 and 422 Seven Ponds Towd Road in Water Mill. Parlato Development Group and Sciame Construction have partnered to build these two amazing 9,300-plus-square-foot homes that are going to set a compelling new standard for design and attention to detail in the Hamptons. With a backdrop of open reserve and farmland, the interiors are spacious and thoughtfully laid out to enhance a balanced lifestyle. The homes are set on more than an acre each and will feature a 20-x-40 heated gunite pool with spa, twin cabana with an open planned lounge, fireplace, and pergola. These properties also have room for tennis courts. We’ve been receiving positive feedback with interested buyers looking for something special and different. Completion is estimated for spring of 2023. What’s your advice for a first-time buyer in the area? What questions should they be asking? Oakley: We advise first-time home buyers to make sure they’re preapproved if they are financing and to make a top-10 list about what they’re looking for in a property. We also advise them to exhaust their options and take time to explore the area they plan to establish a home in. It’s not only about the house and property but about

the lifestyle they’re looking to create. Buyers should be asking questions about financing, being mortgagecontingent versus not, how to make an offer, what is legal at a property, how to assess value, what the house would rent for, what type of expansion is possible, how old the mechanicals are, and what extra fees are involved in Patty Oakley and Brian Leicht purchasing. What part of the Hamptons do you think will be the next hot area to buy in? Leicht: Of course, we love Southampton! It’s just east of the canal and yet so close to Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor. The beach access is amazing, and the village is quaint and beautiful, no matter what season it is. Oakley: Southampton is a town where we’ve seen great development and where values continue to rise. You have so many great areas to explore. For example, Southampton Village, so much history still exists among the newer and remodeled properties; North Sea, by the Peconic Bay, where being close to the water becomes an instant part of your lifestyle; Shinnecock Hills, by the Shinnecock Bay, and located closer to your trip back West; and Tuckahoe, surrounded by world-renowned golf courses and convenient to the village. What are your personalities like? Leicht: Dynamic, enthusiastic, adventurous, passionate, humble, and loyal. LEVEL ABOVE 422 Seven Ponds Towd Road, Water Mill Located on a private drive, this home offers stone walls and wooden entry gates, which set the stage for your arrival to a world designed with permanence and longevity in mind.

LUXURY AWAITS 420 Seven Ponds Towd Road, Water Mill This is an exquisitely crafted gambrel residence. The property features views of more than 17 acres of natural protected reserve. Outdoor living and exterior spaces offer a variety of amenities and defined destinations designed for dining and entertainment, as well as a 20-x-40 heated gunite pool and spa.

I will not be cooking this summer now that I’ve discovered The Culinistas and their house call cooking! I’m a terrible cook, so this takes the pressure off my husband. I’m also super excited for Tutto il Giorno café in East Hampton, which is right next to my office. This summer, we’ll be hosting a chef from Israel, Tal Zohar, for a dinner party. He tours the Hamptons for two weeks each summer and is unbelievable. We went through a gut renovation last year with the marvelous architect Eleanor Donnelly from Stelle Lomont and after a few years of insanity, we’re looking forward to hosting many great evenings with clients who are now friends and spending time with our pups, Calvin and Henri.

At Communitie in Bridgehampton, my friends Patrick and Walter curate the best fashion and an assortment of brands you can’t find anywhere else—high quality and chic meets casual, to take you anywhere. Of course, they carry the original JP Organic Slip Dresses— by now I honestly think I personally own two dozen! Elsewhere, I love Lazy Point, Sunshine, and Ganeaux.

Psssst! Amagansett is getting a new pizza parlor and, rumor has it, a Caribbean-style takeout spot. Stay tuned!

Wellness I love SoulCycle classes at The Barn in Bridgehampton and working out with my trainer at Body Tech in East Hampton. Alison Burke, my personal yoga teacher, is opening a studio in Amagansett where Barry’s was. Align Yoga Hamptons will offer a full schedule of heated yoga and fitness classes, such as warm and heated classes, bootcamp sessions, fire flows, intro classes, and wind-downs to end the day with a stretch. I recommend the Align Signature Class, which encompasses breathwork, toning, spirituality, and flow. The in-studio boutique will feature Manduka, Alo, and other fitness brands, too.

Market Watch

“I love SoulCycle classes!”

It’s not news to say we’re having an inventory crunch all over the East End. When competition for a listing is so heightened, you don’t just need a top broker, you need excellent chemistry with your broker. Bidding wars are tough and emotions run high, so without that trust, it could be a long haul. Real estate should have a tremendous joy factor associated with it; I work to make every transaction a positive experience. To get mentally and physically ready for the madness, I am escaping preseason to my happy place—The Ranch in Malibu, California—for intense fitness and detox! Hamptons summer 2022, I’m ready for you!

A Real Estate

RARITY

When power brokers Kyle Rosko and Marcy Braun of the Eklund Gomes team at Douglas Elliman talk about 51 West End Road, their breathtaking listing on East Hampton’s most desirable private street, it’s impossible for their faces not to light up. The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home and its surrounding land, ocean frontage, and private stretch of Georgica Beach, isn’t just exclusive, it’s incredibly rare and historically significant. We took a break from swooning over pictures of it to call them and hear more about the picture-perfect property.

Do you remember your feelings the first time you saw this property? Kyle Rosko: Approaching this property for the first time was an incredible experience I will never forget. The colors and landscape, coupled with the gentle rumble of the ocean, rush over you in a magical way. All of that is a lead up to stepping inside the house, where you have views out to the ocean or Georgica Pond from almost every window. In the generous backyard with its pool and pathway to the ocean with breaking waves, I remember saying to myself, “This is as good as it gets.” When did this property first come on your radar? Rosko: I remember this property as a child surfing in front of it and looking back over the ocean at it, always dreaming to see what it looked like inside. As fate would have it, later on in life I ended up becoming friends with the owners and I was invited to lunch on the property some 20 years later. Can you tell us a little history? How long has the current family lived there? Rosko: The family has lovingly restored and reimagined the property since 1992. They purchased the home when it was in quite bad shape and had the vision to make it an incredible estate. Exactly how rare is it for a property like this to come on the market? Rosko: Homes of this caliber are scarce, and they come to market infrequently. These properties are so sought after, due to the fact that they have both privacy and vistas of the ocean and Georgica Pond that are incomparable. We label this as a “once in a lifetime oceanfront [property]” for that very reason. What does it mean to you, both personally and professionally, to be selling it? Rosko: To be selected and trusted to represent a property of this distinction is both an honor and a privilege. It’s a true milestone in my career to present one of the most incredible properties and prestigious addresses in the world. What would you say are the most unique things about the home? Marcy Braun: It’s one of only two homes in this waterfront location that offers an DAILYFRONTROW.COM

expansive yard, lawn, and pool on the ocean side. It’s an extremely rare opportunity to experience unobstructed views over both the Atlantic Ocean and Georgica Pond, and to see the sunrise and sunset over the water to begin and complete your day. Another notable feature would be the extraordinary full gardens. Ed Hollander, who was responsible for the original landscaping, set the groundwork for the current owner to expand and grow the gardens to encompass a wide range of rare flora and fauna. Using her botanical expertise, she has compiled quite the assortment of specimens. What has the interest been like so far? Rosko: Interest has been strong, as there was an off-market trade at $85 million three doors down a few months prior to listing. Prior to that, few properties have changed hands on the ocean on West End Road. It’s quite impressive the amount of traffic I see looking at $50 million-plus properties currently! What makes West End Road such an exclusive and desirable address? Rosko: The privacy of a private one-way road and the elevation of the dune allow a unique perspective and light coming off the ocean and Georgica Pond alike. Additionally, it has a rich history of notable residents on the street who appreciate this unique location. Braun: There’s also a limited number of homes, which contributes to the allure of this esteemed address. What do you know about Roger Bullard, the architect who built the home? Rosko: Roger Bullard was also notably the architect for the clubhouse at the Maidstone golf course in East Hampton. What else is new with you this season? Braun: We have another fresh oceanfront property hitting the market at 2056 Montauk Highway in Amagansett. It’s an outstanding Joe Farrell–built estate bordering the reserve. Priced at $25 million, it’s one of the most significant oceanfront offerings at that level. Most importantly, we are excited to be operating our first summer season in our new role leading the Eklund Gomes team in the Hamptons. We’re incredibly grateful to have been chosen to align with Fredrik Eklund, John Gomes, and Julia Spillman to extend the No. 1 team in the country into the Hamptons market. We have so much to look forward to celebrating the future of the team!

A VIEW TO A THRILL Access to the stunning beauty of both the Atlantic Ocean and Georgica Pond is a major selling point.

et’s hear it for Atlanta Apparel! The April installment of the market at AmericasMart broke records, with the largest brand offering to date. With participation from 47 states and buyers flying in from 11 countries across the globe to discover more than 3,500 lines, it was a signal that trade shows are not only back, they’re booming. Simply put: People are eager to celebrate once more, and they’re feeling the urge to discover new fashion to help them make those special occasions even more memorable. “Social events are back and VOW Bridal & Formal experienced one of its best-ever markets as a result,” Caron Stover, IMC senior vice president, Apparel Leasing, said of the market, which ran concurrently with the most recent event. “The positive energy this April at Atlanta Apparel could be felt across all 14 floors of permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits,” she added joyfully. “The Atlanta buyers came to

After attendees toasted one another over bubbles at the Atlanta Apparel x The Daily Front Row cocktail hour, they watched as models took to the street to showcase 74 outfits incorporating top trending styles, silhouettes, and shades for the upcoming season. And speaking of trends, The Daily’s executive fashion director Freya Drohan was also welcomed with open arms—the Southern Hospitality is real!—to give a seminar at the market to discuss the reigning runway trends from Fashion Month and their context and relevance to an everyday wardrobe. From the new takes on tailoring to the must-haves for party season, there was plenty to dissect. Class is in session! Atlanta Apparel is set to return for its June edition from June 8–11, giving buyers one last chance to place their Autumn/Winter ’22 orders. While all the permanent showrooms market hungry for inventory and found an impressive scope of apparel, accessories, and footwear offerings to meet customer needs.” This time around, there was also a notable growth in shoes, resortwear, accessories, and contemporary categories, which buyers perused across 350-plus permanent showrooms and 400 temporary exhibits. BAKER Maker

Since first meeting him in 2016 at an intimate dinner THE DAILY hosted at The Maidstone in East Hampton, we’ve always had a special place in our heart for Colson Baker, who went on to global stardom as Machine Gun Kelly. Now one of our favorite dinner guests ever is co-writing, directing, and starring in his first feature film, Good Mourning. He’s also about to embark on his biggest tour ever this summer. We always knew Baker had big style, but could a fashion line be next? By EDDIE ROCHE Photography by JUERGEN TELLER

Colson, how are you? We first met at a dinner in the Hamptons a few years ago! I’m good, I’m good! I remember! Good Mourning is so funny. Tell us a little bit about what your character goes through in the film. It’s essentially art imitating life. In real life, I got a text that I was confused by from my nowfiancé [Megan Fox], but this was before we were dating. I was trying to interpret it and I went to all my friends for relationship advice, the ones who weren’t in relationships, and their advice led me down the wrong path. The movie is essentially encouraging one to just laugh. It deals with the choice between your career and your personal life. We say this quote in the movie, “Save the world, lose the girl.” There’s a lot of irony happening. You and your friend and collaborator, Mod Sun, co-directed the film. How did you divide and conquer the duties? I’m the moody one. He’s the happy one. I’m extremely meticulous when it comes to how we’re

DAILYFRONTROW.COM

telling the story. He’s very much the person who will throw a million ideas out to land the perfect one. It’s essentially yin and yang. If both of us were the exact same, it would have imploded and so many ideas would have been shot out that we’d just film a bunch of stuff and have too many puzzle pieces for us to make an actual picture. What was it like to watch yourself on-screen as the director? Were you critical? It was entertaining! I had to let go of criticism of my own performance in this one. I didn’t want to play [Baker’s character] London Clash. I just wanted to be the director, but it was my story. But I wanted people to see me in a different light than Machine Gun Kelly, and I had to create my own opportunity to be a lead in a comedy. I can’t see a studio or a director saying, “Do you know who our first choice is to be a lead in a comedy? Machine Gun Kelly?” People have always said that comedy is harder than drama. Did you find that to be the case? I didn’t. They must not be having fun on set. We couldn’t stop laughing. When you have people who aren’t coming in with egos, which was fortunately the case with this, it was almost like having a party every day. You and Pete Davidson are great friends. What was it like working with him on this film? Hilarious. We always do cameos in each other’s movies. The studio was pretty positive that I wasn’t going to get him to do the film because he was shooting another movie at the same time. His team said it was unrealistic, but he wrapped his movie the midnight before our shoot day and he got on a plane and came. He was there in the morning and shot a 16-hour day with us. The only reason the day took so long was because he had us laughing so much! Are you hoping this movie becomes a stoner classic? Absolutely! To join the cult-classic stoner category would be an honor. We’ve never ever asked this question before, but…what are some of your favorite stoner movies? Grandma’s Boy, Friday, Superbad, Pineapple Express… You’re on tour this summer. What’s the show going to look like? It’s the biggest production I’ve ever had. It’s hopefully one of the biggest productions in touring history. I’m going big! It’s very photo-friendly and something that doesn’t blow its load in the first three songs. It’s going to be something that you have to stay the whole concert for. You presented an award to your stylist, Adam Ballheim, at our FLAs a few weeks ago. Your speech about him was so lovely. A favorite of the night! Wow! That’s cool. I actually didn’t write a speech. I wasn’t aware people were going to come with such planned speeches, so I reached into a real place right before I went up [to present]. I’m glad it came off as genuine, and it definitely was. My relationship with Adam is one of high expectations from both of us. I had a long conversation with him yesterday that we’ve developed a look that people are used to and now it’s time to completely wipe that slate clean. The next project for me and Adam is starting completely over. [The FLAs] and the award for him were a closer to that chapter, and now it’s a sign to inspire us to go win it again. Do you ever want to drop your own fashion line? What would it look like? My ideal line will be like Rick Owens mixed with Dolce & Gabbana. I can wear Rick Owens to bed, I can wear it out, to the grocery store, to a concert. I’m tall and I love the ghoulish look. You’re such a special guy. It’s been so awesome seeing you succeed since we first met. Thanks! I appreciated your awards show. That was fun. I really enjoyed it. I was speaking from a real place and I got something off my chest that I wanted to say that I didn’t even know I was needing to say. I appreciated that. Thank you guys so much for having me.
