coach

What’s the vibe? The Tommy Hilfiger Tailored collection is inspired by a glamorous island-hopping holiday in the 1950s, when making a journey stylish was just as important as the destination itself. What did you work with? Fabrics include lightweight cottons, linens, tropical weaves, and mohair wools. The signature style is decadent and dressed up with a relaxed twist. What’s your summer jam? “Poison,” by Rita Ora. Travel plans? I’m sailing the Mediterranean Coast this summer with my family, stopping in Corsica, Sardinia, and Capri.

Put Me In Coach!

david hart

With creative director Stuart Vevers You’re turning Coach as we know it upside down! Absolutely! Why was it time? When I was first contacted by Coach, it was within the context of change, new direction, and a complete reset. Here I am! What’s the difference between designing men’s and women’s? The parameters for men’s are narrower. For men’s we wanted to have a clear point of view. We wanted to use the heritage of Coach as a filter for that. And I wanted it to have an individuality that NYC has.

Inspiration, please! Bauhaus. That’s a new one! What materials did you work with? Tons of Australian merino wool, Irish linen, and mohair. We’ve added a great linen short this season with a built-in waist pack for storage. Any plans for a postshow celebration? To be in my bed with a long nap, preferably with a bottle of the Hibiki 17-Year-Old Japanese whisky. Any vacation plans? What’s a vacation?

AMAZON

To toast the inaugural season of New York Fashion Week: Men’s, Amazon Fashion (along with MyHabit and East Dane) teamed up with the CFDA for a bash at Amazon’s photography studio in Williamsburg. Designers mixed with athletes, actors, and editors to take in Erik Madigan Heck’s photography and discuss the week to come. A few days later, it was disco time as Jeffrey celebrated 25 years with a Studio 54– themed bash at its store. What a week it was!

54 Seconds with…Jeffrey Kalinsky When were you last at Studio 54? I did see Assassins there [a few years ago]. When I was in high school [in the suburbs], I would go into the city and go to Studio 54 with my friends. I was very preppy and waspy in my dress, and I was always selected to go in. It was one of the most exciting things I’ve done in my life. Ever imagine that Jeffrey would become a dance floor for a night when you first opened? I kind of did! We’ve had a traditional wedding in the store, a birthday party, and a wedding party for two male friends of mine after they got married. I love the idea of the store celebrating life. What’s your favorite disco song? I’m not sure I have one. Maybe “MacArthur Park,” by Richard Harris?

chic moments the surf lodge The Daily Summer and Billabong threw a “Summer Surf Party” at East End staple, the Surf Lodge. John Frieda’s Harry Josh was on hand to beautify the ladies’ tresses in the Billabong suite, where the brand’s surfer gals were hanging out pre-party. Boots No7 dolled up guests with its summer lip bar, while other guests cooled off with Evian and Cointreau from the make-your-own Rickey cocktail bar and lounged on Serena & Lily’s striped beach towels. Moroccanoil treated guests to its new line of sunscreen and body lotion.

Skype with my surfboard later.

Have you ever been to Montauk? It’s my first time. It’s so different than anywhere I’ve been in America. It reminds me a little bit of my home, Australia. Though it’s freezing there now! How did you get involved with Billabong? I’ve been riding with them for four years. It has been incredible. Awesome events like this only happen now and again, but I love them. I flew all the way from Australia to be here. Will you be surfing here? I hope so. I’m not sure what the waves are like here. Do you travel with your surfboard? Everywhere but here. It’s the first time I’ve ever traveled without it since surfing professionally. Wow! How does that feel? I feel a bit empty. Maybe I’ll

Lindsay Perry Any relation to Katy Perry? I wish! That’s not even her real name. Have you been to Montauk before? I spent my 25th birthday here. How could you not love it here? I like that it’s a surfer-based community. Have you gone surfing today? I flew in on the red-eye this morning. What’s your Billabong connection? I do a lot of graphic design, and I’m also a blogger. They found my blog a few years ago and got in contact with me. It’s an easy fit. Do you wear a lot of Billabong? It’s the only thing I wear! We get new wardrobes every quarter. I’m so thankful. You’re also performing at Surf

Lodge this weekend! It’s been on my bucket list for a while. I just opened for Ed Sheeran in San Diego, which was fun.

Courtney Conlogue Do you travel with the board? This trip I didn’t, but I travel with it on the world tour. How much do airlines charge to travel with a surfboard? Anywhere from $1,200 to $100 to free. What’s your role with Billabong? I’m one of their athletes and have been riding with them for 11 years now, since I was 11 years old. They’ve watched me grow as an athlete. They’re rooting for me because I’m in the running for the title. There hasn’t been an American world champion female surfer in almost 20 years. Right now I’m No. 2.

How does that feel? It’s exciting. Last year I was injured and off tour because of my ankle. The time out of the water did bring me back to why I love surfing. It’s an open canvas that you get to paint on with your board.

Alessa Quizon Do you surf full time for a living? I do. I’m on the world tour with Laura and Courtney, and that’s year-round. What’s the coldest water you’ve ever swam in? California in the winter. It was freezing. I was numb. How do you deal with that? Keep on moving! How do you feel about sharks? They’re everywhere. I never want to see one in person. But more people die from falling coconuts than sharks!

Beauty Party To toast The Daily Summer’s Beauty and the Body issue, we hosted a party at c/o The Maidstone celebrating all things gorgeous. The day kicked off with morning workouts at Barry’s Bootcamp in both Wainscott and Amagansett, where the studios were stocked with Boots No7 cosmetics and Kenra Professional hair-care products. Post-workout, Hampton Coffee Company handed out cold brew. Later in the day, guests gathered in c/o The Maidstone’s backyard, where Boots No7 offered makeup and lip touch-ups, Blow Hamptons hosted a braid bar, and Cointreau invited guests to make their own Cointreau Rickeys. Peroni and Evian were also on hand, while DJ Grier Newlin kept the tunes flowing.

A MOMENT WITH… MICHAEL CLINTON

You’ve successfully published six travel books before this one. What makes Closer: Seeing the World in Details different? This one focuses on details of the world around you. It’s detailed shots of what you might miss. There are about 30 countries photographed for the book, but I have a special passion for Santa Fe, New Mexico, Africa, and Italy. You’re quite the globetrotter. What was the trip that got you hooked? When I was 12 years old, I went to Ireland and England to see where my grandparents were from. I slept in the bed that my grandfather was born in! And I visited Chelsea, the neighborhood in London where my grandmother lived as a young girl before she moved to New York. So that led me to a country count of 123 today. I’ve done seven marathons on seven continents. You’re also a pilot. Do you often fly yourself to the places you travel? I’ve flown in Africa, the Caribbean, the Hamptons, Australia, and places all over the East Coast. Any plans for another book? Closer is going to become a series of different destinations. This is the first of the series, and the next one will be out next summer.

With Feit designer Tull Price

You’re selling your shoes at Tiina the Store. Which styles are the Amagansett types picking up? The slipper seems to be the favored style since it’s simple and easy as a slip-on. What makes Feit so special? All our products are handmade from allnatural materials and vegetable-tanned leathers. The uppers are one piece, so there are no seams to disturb your foot or the natural break of the shoe, and they can mold to your feet and meet your needs. Our insoles and

outsoles age with a beautiful patina and can be worn barefoot all summer long on the hottest of days—they’ll remain cool without creating an odor. Little-known fact: Most shoes today are made out of synthetics or leathers tanned with chrome, which are harmful to the wearer, use large amounts of energy to produce, and basically end up as landfill. After spending 20 years of deep research into what makes the greatest pair of shoes, we’re at a good spot, so we don’t mess with it. Your products are made in limited editions. How many do you make of each style? Our production is limited to the number of craftsmen we have, so on average, we have 60 pairs per style per color. There are very few people in the

world who can make truly hand-stitched shoes! 216 Main St., Amagansett

BAUBLE BABBLE!

With Elissa Schneider, founder, Lissa Fine Jewelry What’s your earliest memory of jewelry? I’ve loved jewelry since I was about 13 years old. I went into the most glamorous jewelry store in my neighborhood and purchased a $150 pair of earrings with all my babysitting money. My mom thought I was insane, but these earrings from Italy are still so beautiful today. When and how did you get into the jewelry biz? In college I was working part time for a busy jewelry store in the Garment District. I got the job when I was picking up my friend who worked there. The owner needed a ride home, and I asked if he could interview me. He said he was looking for a male for the position, so I said, “Then you need a male driver to drive you home in the rain.” He loved that answer and gave me the job!

Sun Worshiping! With makeup artist Misha Shahzada

Which products did you use? Nadine has beautiful skin, and I love her freckles, so I didn’t use much face makeup other than concealer and a bit of bronzer. I used Boots No7 Stay Perfect Blemish Cover and Perfectly Bronzed Mosaic Bronzer, which I topped with Boots No7 Skin Illuminator. I love to really highlight the skin in the summer months. What about sun protection? We spent a lot of time in the sun, so I was sure to reapply Moroccanoil SPF 50 every 40 minutes. How do you sweatproof makeup? Using a good primer always helps, and always opt for oil-free products.

Windblown Locks! With hairstylist Kayla MiChele

How did you achieve the beachy hair vibe? I used extensions to give volume on such a windy day, and then I spritzed Nadine’s hair with John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray to add texture. I finished with Luxurious Volume Hairspray for hold. Any tips on how to pick the right extensions for summer? Always buy the best quality, and a perfect color match is the most important thing. If you have darker roots, it might be best to have the extensions colored at the roots to the same color as your natural roots.

TECH TALK!

With It’s My Styl app’s creators Josephine Eskilsson and Felicia Åkerlind

What’s It’s My Styl? Josephine: It’s a community where young women can share their styles and get instant feedback from their peers. Our users mix and match outfits with selections from their own closet and online. Users have the opportunity to influence and receive comments from peers. Felicia: Users can also grab pics from e-commerce sites or take photos of their own clothes and remove the background with a tool. You can also add text or even a picture of yourself! What inspired you to start the business? Josephine: We both wake up with the question, “What should I wear today?” We knew that there had to be an easier way to get the kind of feedback we were looking for. g e t t y i m a g es ( 6 ) ; A L L O T H E R S C O U R T E S Y

ONLY AT 1OAK! In case there was any debate that 1OAK is the club of seen-and-beseen-ers for the summer of 2015, behold one Jennifer Lopez, who rang in her 46th at the venue. It’s not that we don’t love a little Lopez—we do!—but we were a bit struck by this nearly nude frock (which she rocked, although it was a bit trop for your semi-modest Daily Summer). Maybe 46 is the new 16?

SCENE

☛ Attention, Waldbaum’s shoppers: Stop & Shop is taking over its supermarkets in both Southampton and East Hampton, likely by the end of the year. ☛ Not exactly food related, but it’s vino-oriented: Wolffer Estate has banned dogs. Woof! ☛ A 7-Eleven may be coming to Amagansett. We’ll provide updates as soon as they’re available. ☛ Meanwhile, in Montauk news, the town’s oldest restaurant, Trail’s End (b. 1927), has been sold. No word yet on the new buyer, although online buzz points to the owners of the Sloppy Tuna, and locals are less than thrilled. ☛ Introducing Disco Fries, Montauk’s magical purveyor of, yes, many varieties of frites. Our faves: the Astoria (grilled chicken, feta, olive oil, cucumber yogurt sauce, oregano, and parsley) and the “doughnut fries” (cinnamon sugar–dusted doughnut fries, nutella, and vanilla ice cream). ☛

SUNDAY NIGHT SPECIAL! Fancy a pig roast? Topping Rose House is hosting such affairs every Sunday evening through September, starting at 6 p.m. It’s $95 per adult, and $55 for kids ages 5–12, and the menu also includes charcuterie, a watermelon salad, and a family-style assortment of suckling pig, bratwurst, summer vegetables, burrata, corn bread, potato salad, and bread pudding. 1 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Tpke., Bridgehampton

BEAUTIQUE 411!

With Jennifer Oz LeRoy What’s your role at Beautique? I am a consultant for the brand and operation. I consult on everything from staffing to programming. What made you make the switch from Gurney’s? As a consultant, you are hired to do a job. I was hired to bring in a team and breathe some new life and energy into the property, which we did very successfully, but then it was time to move on. What’s your favorite item on the menu? I really believe all our food is fantastic, but I love what Greg [Grossman] has done with both the fried oysters and the tuna tartare sliders. When you can take a dish like tuna tartare and make it special and unique, that is a gift! What are you working on next? I have a few things lined up, but I’m really focusing on relaunching the Tavern on the Green brand globally, starting in Palm Beach, as I have retained the use of the name outside New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. We are also working on a line of products for the brand. I also plan to bring Maxwell’s Plum, my father’s first great restaurant, back to New York and to other cities. 281 County Rd. 39A, Southampton FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

MODEL SWEAT SESH! With Hailey Clauson

What’s your workout routine? I try to work out five days a week with my trainer. Two of those days we box and jump rope. One day, we work out my legs and booty by doing squats and duck walks, and the other two days would be ab workouts, like crunches, leg lifts, and bicycles. On the days that we can’t train, I’ll run. Who’s your trainer? My boyfriend, Jullien Herrera, who, lucky for me, happens to be a professional trainer! We work out at either Overthrow in Soho or do outdoor workouts along the Hudson. What’s your motto when it comes to fitness? It’s always worth it once the workout is finished! What exercise would we never see you doing? Lifting heavy weights. As a model, my goal is to be long and lean. What’s your favorite gym in Manhattan? I really enjoy going to Overthrow, a boxing gym. What are your best fitness tips? Find an exercise you love. If you don’t love what you’re doing, you will never work out. Also, if you need motivation, find a workout buddy. What’s the hardest part of working out? Cardio. I find running challenging, but it needs to get done. What music do you listen to when working out? I have a playlist full of oldschool and today’s hip-hop, like Kool & the Gang and 50 Cent, along with some top-40 hits, like Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé, and a little rock, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It’s a solid mix of things that get me pumped up.

TRAMP TALK!

With Alexandra Bonetti, founder, Bari Studio What makes your signature workout so unique? The hybrid factor. Because the method has three core components—sensory dance cardio, trampoline cardio, and muscle sculpting—we’re able to tailor our private training to our client’s goals, while making sure they always have a variety and never plateau. The multiple elements also make it easy to pare down equipment-wise, so we can work out anywhere with little-tono equipment. Besides being customized, how is private training different from group classes? A lot of our private training clients have created in-home Bari setups, equipped with personal trampolines, and installed hanging resistance bands—the whole nine yards. What’s the most popular workout request of the summer? Trampoline on the beach. Extra abs! thebaristudio.com

BEACH BUMMING! With Jaime Morales, top trainer

What’s the scoop on your Saturday morning class at Gibson Lane Beach in Sagaponack? It’s all about a challenging mix of cardio, core, strength, and length routines while giving specific postural cues to achieve a strong, lean, and fit body. Our exercises include planks, pushups, burpees, jumping jacks, butt lifts, lunges, crunches, and stretches. Has being an Instagram star [@thejaimefit] helped business? Definitely. I’ve been able to increase my business of personal training and group classes but also add on new clients who wanted to train through Skype, phone, and e-mail. What’s it like to train Carolyn Murphy? Carolyn is my great friend and top client. We’ve been working together for two years, and I use my greatest mind and fitness tools to achieve amazing results every time. Carolyn is not only the most beautiful woman in the world, but she’s also the most loving, compassionate, and caring. What differentiates you from other trainers? I’m very athletic, focused, and always in the right mood. My clients love and appreciate the energy I bring to their training program. jaimefit.com

PRECISION PILATES! With Erika Bloom, founder, Erika Bloom Pilates What prompted the opening of your East Hampton studio? When I had my bounding, joyful, curious children, I knew they needed a place like the Hamptons to spend time outdoors in nature. At the same time, most of our clients were coming out East and were begging for our method to be here. I found my house and also found our beautiful studio space in the same year, so it all grew from there. We’re now open year-round. How does your approach differ? Our sessions are fully customized to each client. We evaluate for weaknesses and FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

faulty biomechanics and then create specific programming that will truly change their bodies. To do this, we pull from the full range of Pilates mat and apparatus exercises, as well as drawing on functional training, sports conditioning, yoga, Klein, Franklin, Feldenkrais, stretching, foam rolling, and specific visual and hands-on cueing. Our instructors are highly educated to create these body-changing results. What kind of services do you offer? Our signature custom Erika Bloom Method Pi-

lates sessions. This is our most popular service. We also do duet sessions. These are done in studio on the apparatus. You can also book these as in-home sessions throughout the Hamptons. We believe in coordinating wellness for a holistic approach, so we also offer acupuncture, Rolfing, and yoga. What’s your favorite way to exercise when you’re not in the studio? I love playing in the backyard with my children. We also swim in the ocean as often as possible. The saltwater is so healing, and swimming is such a good workout. 66 Newtown Ln., East Hampton B F A N Y C . C O M ; g e t t y i ma g e s ( 2 ) ; A L L O T H E R S C O U R TES Y

REAL ESTATE INSIGHT PRESENTED by

Q: What is your favorite part about the development process? A: The process of selecting the materials and finishes. I am a stickler for perfection, so we travel to Italy to hand select interior materials, finishes and customize the cabinetry. Upscale European design, innovative technology, and top-of-the-line appliances is what our customers have come to expect. I appreciate those who appreciate the effort and time we put into our buildings, so I always go the extra mile.

Q: What is your design philosophy? A: I always begin building from the inside-out. I feel that quality & effortless functionality are the essential ingredients of a memorable, elegant living space.

BATHROOMS AT BRICKELL FLATIRON: Feature custom designed Milldue cabinetry, Italian marble flooring, Zucchetti fixtures, backlit wall mirror, oversized spa tub

THE INSIDER: UGO COLOMBO Miami’s premier luxury developer and Founder of CMC Group— responsible for iconic properties including Bristol Tower, Santa Maria, Grovenor House & Epic Residences & Hotel—shares some insight on his approach to design.

THE KITCHENS AT EPIC: Feature dark wood Snaidero cabinetry

Q: Favorite Brickell eatery? A: Zuma. Not just because it is located in one of my developments (EPIC Residences & Hotel). It really has some of the best sushi I have ever tasted.

Maybe it’s my Italian blood, but I prefer to take painstaking measures that ensure every project detail falls into place. I believe that my work is a reflection of my values, so I get very involved in the entire development process and rarely take a back seat. I am committed to seeing a well-thought-out vision executed through quality design. My ultimate goal with any project is to build timeless, livable works of art.

Q: What is your favorite building feature at Brickell Flatiron? A: The 64th floor rooftop amenities level. As one of the tallest residential buildings in Miami, the rooftop at Brickell Flatiron houses an incredible pool, spa and fitness center. Soaring 700 ft in the sky provides spectacular views that can be appreciated even while running on the treadmill.

-- UGO COLOMBO, FOUNDER OF CMC GROUP

Q: What do you think sets your buildings apart from other developments? A: Our commitment to quality & innovation. We take our time on each project, paying attention to every single detail from the finishes to the technology. Attention to the smallest details has become CMC Group’s mark of distinction. Buyers recognize that our projects are built to last.

How’s your summer? It’s good! I just got back from a vacation in St. Tropez with a bunch of friends. It was my first time there, and we went on a few boat parties and had some nice dinners. The shopping is great, too. Everybody’s dressed really well. I really, really enjoyed it! We also went to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation party, which was amazing. Elton John and John Legend performed. And on the plane ride home, Elton was sitting right behind me! It was pretty crazy. I told him that he gave a great performance. He’s a legend! Did you ever have a lot of “How did I get here?” moments? Oh, yeah. I had a lot of those! What else do you have lined up for the summer? I’m trying to go home to Vienna for a few days to see my parents and my brother. I want to go to Mykonos, Greece, at the end of August. Everyone is obsessed with it these days. I’ve been working a lot—I’ve already been in Berlin and London this summer. What was your childhood like? Pretty wild. I was “discovered” when I was 15. I’m from a very small and conservative town, so nobody really understood much about my modeling career. I was bullied really badly until I was 17 or 18. People gave me the wrong books to study, or gave me the wrong dates for tests. When I look back now, I think it was jealousy—it wasn’t normal for a girl from Austria to get booked for a job in Barcelona or Ibiza. At some point, it was impossible for me to go to school. I moved to London, and I never really came back to Austria. But the experience made me a lot stronger, because I became really independent. What’s your best advice for girls who are being bullied? Well, a lot of girls reach out to me on Twitter and Instagram and ask how to deal with certain situations. I try to help if I can. I tell them it’s a phase, and you have to be strong and you might be thankful it happened. Do you miss anything about Austria? Nature. I miss how quiet it is. I like to go back to relax and go hiking or skiing. Have you ever been to Life Ball in Vienna? Only once, but it was so much fun! It was one of the best times ever. People prepare for it forever! How did you spend your childhood summers? My hometown was really close to Italy, so we used to go camping there. What do you love about living in New York City? The energy! You walk out of your apartment and there’s always something to do. There are people around at all times of the day. There’s always something going on! Are you a healthy eater? I’m trying really hard. My body doesn’t work like most of my model friends’ bodies—I’ve always been curvy, so staying skinny is really hard. I have to work out every day, and I have to be careful with what I eat. But I definitely have my moments, especially in summer! I have more cheat days than I should have. What’s your exercise routine? I see my trainer, Marc Gordon, every other day, and I do Pilates on the days I don’t see him. I also spin. My trainer can be really exhausting, especially the cardio, but it’s good because it’s a stressreliever. I do a lot of jumping rope, which is great because I can do it everywhere. I always feel great afterward. How did you find your trainer? I tried so many, but my friend who was pregnant told me about Marc, who helped her get back in shape in two months. It’s all about connection, and we just connected. I’ve also seen the most results after working with him. He also trains Joan Smalls and Jac Jagaciak. Have you been checking out any movies on your days off? I’ve seen a lot! I’m a big fan of Minions, and I also caught Magic Mike XXL, which was entertaining. Who was your favorite hottie in the movie? Channing Tatum! We’re partial to Matt Bomer. He’s insane. Wow! Who are your best girlfriends? I have so many girlfriends that it’s kind of hard to say who my best FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

You can buy whatever you want with money, but you can't buy yourself good friends or the support of your family.”

friend is. I do hang out with a lot of models and people from the industry because they understand my schedule. What’s the heart tattoo on your wrist? I’m a huge fan of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and she has the same tattoo, so that was a big reason I got it. I consider her a role model. I also feel that a heart stands for so many things, like friends and family and love. What did Rosie think? We’ve been in the same room, but I’m always too starstruck to say hi. Any other career aspirations? I’d love to try acting. People keep telling me I should do it, and I know a lot of people in that industry. I’m taking acting classes now. I’d love to be in action movies or dramas. I don’t want to be just a pretty blonde in funny movies. What do you consider a major luxury? My friends and family. You can buy whatever you want with money, but you can’t buy yourself good friends or the support of your family. If you don’t have someone to share it with, it’s just not the same. Sweet. If there was a luxury item that just appeared in your life… I’d love my own yacht! Jets are cool because you can fly everywhere, but being on a boat is the most incredible feeling. What’s your 10-year plan? So many things in this industry happen out of nowhere, so right now, I’m trying to take it day by day. There’s always so much happening!

SUPERMODEL

MOVES

Who wouldn’t want to strengthen, lengthen, and tone? Entrepreneur Amanda Freeman’s brutalyet-effective SLT fitness studios have gained scores of fit fans on the East End and beyond. Case in point? Supermodel Nina Agdal, who shows us her moves on SLT’s famed Megaformer. BY SYDNEY SADICK PHOTOGRAPHY BY GIORGIO NIRO Have you always considered yourself sporty? I’ve always been very active. I used to dance when I was younger, and I played basketball for years. I like to try out any kind of sport to challenge myself and have fun. Since I’m from Denmark, I used to watch a lot of soccer as well, so I know how to kick a ball. When did you discover SLT? My friend took me to my first SLT class about a year ago. The first couple of classes are all about getting comfortable with the machine and starting slow, but when you’re past that, you can really get into it! What about the workout appeals to you? I do a lot of high-intensity workouts in addition to SLT, so it’s definitely the leaning and toning part that appeals to me the most. It’s a low-impact cardio workout, but the slower movements that exhaust the muscles really lengthen and tone. How frequently do you do it? I try to go at least twice a week. It’s a great workout after a long day, because it will also relax your mind because you can’t focus on anything but the movements in class. It’s a great way to clear your head for a healthy mind and body. What’s your summer beauty routine? Drink a lot of water, wear high SPF sunscreen whenever you’re in the sun, and go light on the makeup. You’ll have a natural summer glow to you anyway. What are your go-to beauty products? I love rosewater spray for my face, because it’s super light on my skin and keeps it healthy, especially in the summer. Besides that, I

use L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara to enhance my eyes! What’s your approach to nutrition? I try to eat as healthy as possible and drink a lot of water and green tea to stay hydrated. Raw vegetables and lean proteins are what I eat most of the time, but I do like a good steak or a burger! What’s your favorite way to unwind? I’m really into golf. Maybe that’s not what you were expecting me to say, but I love it! I try to get out on the green as much as I can. It’s great because it challenges my patience. Besides that, relaxing on the beach in Miami makes me very happy. What are your summer plans? I’m really excited to travel for work, but I also hope there will be time to visit my family and friends in Denmark. How were you discovered as a model? I grew up in a small town called Hillerød and was discovered right on the street. I had never done modeling before then, but I entered the Elite Model Look competition. I didn’t end up winning, unfortunately, but right after that I signed with Elite Models Copenhagen and continued school until I was 18. Once I graduated, I moved to the States, and that’s when modeling really took off. What has been the highlight of your career so far? Being on the cover of the 50th-anniversary issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Through modeling, I’ve been able to see so many beautiful places that I’ll always remember. I’m really looking forward to more experiences and opportunities still to come in my career!

THE 411 on SLT With Amanda Freeman Why did you launch SLT? Four years ago, I was looking for a workout that gave an elongated, tight, toned but not bulky body. I found the Megaformer machine at a studio in L.A., and I thought New York had to have this workout. I fell in love with it, so I brought it here! Have you always been an avid exerciser? I went to Harvard Business School after working for a few years in trend forecasting, which was my first career. I was always paying attention to what was new, but I always wanted to do my own thing. As a consultant, you give other people advice, but you don’t actually do anything, so I was eager to pursue different ideas. One of the first was Vital Juice in 2007, which was like DailyCandy without the cavities—the healthy version! That’s when I got very into the health and wellness trend. I felt there wasn’t anyone aggregating the wellness content for people who wanted to make smarter choices. When I’m really passionate about something and see an opportunity, I pursue it. Why is SLT effective? It combines cardio, strength training, and Pilates into one workout. Your muscles are shaking and your heart rate is elevated the entire time. You’re also working your slow-twitch muscle fibers, which give the non-bulking, lengthening, toning and ultimately attractive results. How many studios do you have now? We have nine studios and about 60 instructors. What’s great about SLT is that you’ll get a good workout every single time, but the instructors do put their own spin on it, so every class is different. What kind of music do you play in your classes? Motivating music. We try to teach the class to the beat of the music, so it’s not quite as fast as cardio classes, but it’s a combination of pop, hip-hop, and favorites from the ’90s. I’m currently loving “Fight Song,” “Headlights,” and “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Mother F***er.” What do most women wear to the studio? These days, there’s a ton of patterned pants, like tie-dye and animal-print leggings. I’ve even seen pants with a repeated pattern of food. Our clients also either wear shirts where you can see the sports bra or a looser shirt over it. Or no shirt at all! Do you have any celeb regulars? Kyra Sedgwick and Sofia Vergara are fans. We are also fortunate that a lot of models come. It makes sense because of the result of the workout; it’s what models are usually going for, which is for the muscular look but in a toned, not-bulky way. We have several modeling agencies who send their girls here when they’re getting ready for shows. You have a location in Water Mill. What’s next? We’re opening another in East Hampton this month. We found a great space with easy parking that’s also close to Amagansett, so if you’re there or in Montauk, it’s really convenient. We’re starting with 10 machines, but we’ll have more for next season. Do you summer in the Hamptons regularly? Yes, the Hamptons is my happy place. I’ve been going for about 15 years. What’s your post-workout snack? I’m obsessed with chia seeds, dried apples, and dried mangos. I’m very into fruit right now. What’s your expansion plan? We’re going to open a few more locations in Manhattan, and we’re also looking abroad.

Match Made In Heaven

Luxury perfumer Kilian Hennessy and fine jewelry designer Paige Novick have teamed up to create a special collaboration of scented jewelry: By Kilian x Paige Novick, which is already selling out at Bergdorf Goodman. Novick dishes about everything from the bulletinspired design to their long friendship, which began with a chance encounter the first day of school. BY PAIGE REDDINGER

How did this collaboration come together? Kilian approached me, but it was very organic, because the story really began a few years ago when I designed [Kilian’s wife] Elisabeth’s engagement ring. Technically, this is not our first collaboration. We had always talked about the idea of doing a project together since we’re both like-minded, aesthetically oriented people. The DNA of our brands is in sync. How did you dream up the designs? We bounced around various ideas, like S&M, to draw inspiration from, and we agreed that it needed to have a definite edge but still be grounded, classic, and relevant. It was a tall order to take the ancient idea of scented jewelry and redefine it in a modern, luxurious context. I came up with a deconstructed bullet, because we needed to house the ceramic, so I had the idea of building a cage, leaving it open so the scent could diffuse through it. We then made a deconstructed bullet tip, which has either encrusted diamonds or diamond accents. Then I had the idea of injecting a pearl, because it gave it an unexpected edge and also it made it feel very elegant. Are pearls having a moment? Yes, and I don’t think they’re going away anytime soon. But they’re not your grandmother’s pearls anymore! How big is the collection? There are six styles—a ring, a bracelet, two necklaces, earrings, and then a collar that’s available only by special order. Where will it be available? In Kilian’s boutiques and at Bergdorf Goodman. You can scent the pieces with any By Kilian fragrance, and there are tester bottles that come with the jewelry, so you can have any scent refilled. What’s your favorite scent? Liaisons Dangereuses. I wear it every single day. I could drink it! Which other brands have you collaborated with over the years? I’m now working on my third collaboration with Tibi, and I also made an ear climber that said “fly” with FlyWheel. How long have you and Kilian been friends? I met his wife five years ago. The first day our children went to pre-K, Elisabeth and I happened to be standing next to each other. We started talking, and we never stopped. She’s like my sister!

SHOP TALK! With Kilian Hennessy What inspired your creation of scented jewelry? I always had the ambition to make perfume visible. The world we live in is so image-driven; whatever cannot be shown in an image doesn’t exist. What made you think Paige Novick would be a perfect partner? Paige and I are aesthetically like-minded individuals. The collection reflects the edgy but chic designs that are an integral part of our work. What direction did you give her in terms of aesthetics? Paige came up with the idea of the deconstructed bullet that appears to be held weightlessly by a pearl. There is a contrast between fragility and violence that I love! The jewelry is in line with the luxury positioning I want for my brand. What is the price range of the collection? The Paige Novick for Kilian collection ranges between $2,200 for the bracelet and $8,000 for the choker. How has your scented jewelry been doing? Extremely well. It just hit our Bergdorf Goodman counter last week, and we are already sold out of the ring and the bracelet.

THE ITALIAN’S RIVIERA

Brunello Cucinelli’s laid-back, ultra-luxe brand of chic has been charming the East End long before the 2006 opening of its East Hampton outpost. Massimo Caronna, the brand’s U.S. president (and an 18-year vet of the house) is perfectly positioned to supervise matters from his weekend home in East Hampton. BY PAIGE REDDINGER

What do you love most about the Hamptons? At my home here, I’m able to relax and decompress from the fast pace of the city. While some people keep a major social calendar, my family and I definitely spend more time at home recharging and entertaining with friends and family. The Hamptons offers me the comfort and routine of home with the feeling of vacation and escape. Where do you go in Europe? My wife and I tend to visit Greece most often, because she is Greek. Mykonos, Santorini, and our favorite suburb of Athens, Varkiza, provide the most beautiful, picturesque, and functional beaches. Our favorite pastime is fun on the beach and swimming. We would lie for hours on the beach—at least before our daughter Eva was born, who now insists on no relaxation at all times. Other favorite destinations are Capri, Taormina, the Aeolian islands, and Porto Cervo, which are all fantastic places by the sea, but I always feel like a visitor there. In the Hamptons, I feel part of a community, and there’s an emotional connection that makes me feel truly at ease. There’s also a practical point about vacationing in the Hamptons: its proximity to the city. The summer is a busy time for our business, so taking off for long periods of time isn’t possible. The charm and quiet beauty of the Hamptons is all I need during the busy summer months. Being able to lie by the pool, take a walk on the beach, and eat fresh, local food is how I like to relax. When we want to be social, we’re fortunate to have an incredible network of friends. How did you end up buying a Hamptons house? When we were seeking a location for our store, I decided to purchase a home. I was struck with a strong desire to be a part of the community, and I was craving the relaxed, health-driven, sun-kissed lifestyle. We learned quickly of its sophistication, deep artistic roots, and most important, the local communities who care for the area year round, providing the summer visitors with the most pristine and beautiful land, children’s camps, historic reservations, and organic farmlands. There is a magnetism to the East End; it was clearly our fate to own a home out here. We didn’t know how perfectly it would align with our lifestyle and how it would, in a sense, create and define our lifestyle. How would you describe the Hamptons to your European friends? All-American charm with a Manhattan social scene. What is your favorite restaurant? My wife would insist I say her kitchen, since we spend 90 percent of the time eating at home on the weekends! It’s impossible not to, with the prosperous resources of organic foods, local treats, and our love of barbecuing with friends amongst the serenity of trees and flowers in our gardens. But when we do venture out, we love visiting Tutto il Giorno in Sag Harbor, East Hampton Point, and Eva’s favorite, Navy Beach in Montauk, so she can run around on the beach and splash in the water at sunset. Who serves the best Italian food here? Tutto il Giorno in Sag Harbor and Sant Ambroeus in Southampton. We also love the fresh mozzarella that Pasquale makes daily with his bare hands at the Red Horse Market, the fresh pasta and sauces, and the pizza! How do Italians BBQ? We love to invite friends to our home and

barbecue by the pool while the kids play with their friends. My wife prepares, and I grill—a collaboration with a rocky start, but we’ve finally figured out the formula! We keep things simple without using too many marinades. As Italians, we always believe in the quality of food and the simple, essential ingredients to bring out the natural taste of the fare. Brunello’s olive oil from Solomeo, with some coarse sea salt and Greek oregano, sprinkled on organic vegetables and fish on the grill dominate our table all summer. How would you describe your typical Hamptons weekend? Our weekends are simple: SoulCycle with Stacey Griffith, our favorite spin instructor, whom we are fortunate to also call our friend; shopping local farms like Round Swamp Farm, Balsam Farms, and the Amagansett Farmers Market; swimming at the beach or our pool; and barbecuing with family and friends. Why did Brunello Cucinelli first decide to open a store in the Hamptons? The atmosphere of casual luxury, which is so characteristic of East Hampton, is a perfect fit for our brand. The aesthetic of Brunello Cucinelli truly lends itself to the client who wants to look and feel put together even in their more relaxed moments. We offer our clients a comfortable yet chic wardrobe, where they can run to town, attend a social event, or merely visit friends, and if they decide to stay through dinner or go straight to dinner, they are already dressed at ease. What are some of your best sellers? At the beginning of the summer, women love buying for their days and evenings in the Hamptons. They want dresses, silk tops, novelty pants, and beautiful cashmere sweaters to cut the chill of the evenings. And men look for our light fabric sport shirts, jersey and piquet polos, hand-finished cotton pants, and cashmere sweaters. Are you escaping anywhere exotic other than the Hamptons this summer? I was in Italy for work in June and I spent a couple of extra days there in Umbria with Brunello. He and I share the same love for the Italian countryside. We enjoy incredible food and interesting conversations. He is the most insightful man I know.

THE FRENCH GUIDE TO THE HAMPTONS As the publicist for CR Fashion Book (and Carine Roitfeld intimate), Remi Barbier rubs shoulders with every major player in fashion. On the weekends, he heads to Southampton to spend time with his super-chic granny. How does this sexy francais spend his days? BY EDDIE ROCHE PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEFANIA CURTO

Typical schedule: “You will not find me at Ralph Lauren buying a T-shirt on a Saturday. I’ll be riding my horse, in the garden, on the beach, spending time with my grandma, eating good food, and chilling.” Best beach: “My grandmother introduced me to the European beach here. Most of the people who go there are from Italy and France. There are dogs everywhere, and everybody talks to one another. Last time I was there, I met some people from Paris.” Beloved barn: “I ride at Two Trees Farm in Bridgehampton. I see Mary-Kate Olsen there a lot. I usually go on Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes it’s hard to get out, because of shoots for the magazine, but riding feeds my spirit. I have a horse in Burgundy, but I wouldn’t move it to the Hamptons. You have to really find time to be there for them. It’s not like a car that you park in the garage. Here, I always ride the same horse, King Pin, but I don’t like the name because it reminds me of a fat, white guy who wears a white outfit. People at the club don’t like it either, so they call him ‘KP.’ I call him ‘King’ or ‘my boo.’ ” Eats of choice: “I love La Parmigiana in Southampton. It’s not chichi at all. It’s similar to a restaurant I used to go to in my village in Burgundy, France—it’s very family-oriented. I order the pizza, eggplant, and pasta. I also like Le Charlot, which just opened. It’s great! I used to go to Sant Ambroeus, but I don’t like to do things that I do in the city. I’d rather go to small restaurants and farms to get vegetables.” Produce purveyors: “Schmidt Bros. I always buy fruits, vegetables, and ice cream.” Libation: “I prefer rosé from Provence, but I

usually drink white wine like Chablis or Sancerre. I’m obsessed with Sancerre. Since I met Carine [Roitfeld], I’ve fallen in love with vodka. She has this very chic way of drinking it on the rocks.” Dream ride: “I’m obsessed with all the Jeeps out here. I want a black one. I find them very sexy.” Ideal conversationalist: “My grandma. We can speak about everything from work, politics, economics, film, relationships, to sex. I have huge respect for people and this generation. I always learn a lot by talking to them. They’ve experienced so much. My grandparents in Burgundy are more open-minded than my parents! I feel very lucky to have them.” Local escape: “I love Lake Agawam in Southampton. I’m obsessed with the sunset, so I’m always checking my phone to see what time it is so I don’t miss it. I go there and have a cigarette, but my grandmother is not happy about that. She loves to be French, but she says you have to love yourself and the people in America who hate cigarettes. I’ll stop. Soon.” Signature dish: “I like to make eggs Benedict in the morning.” Perfect summer flick: “Christine, with Romy Schneider and Alain Delon. It’s the film. You have to see it!” Summer is… “White T-shirts, blue denim shorts, vintage movies, friends, and family time.” Words of wisdom: “Stay home. Being in the country is a luxury.” Hamptons gripe: “I know about luxury and glamour, and I’ve learned a lot from my boss, who is the queen, so I hate seeing women with a Hermès bag and 10-inch heels out here. It’s a bit too much!”

MEET JACQUELINE COUMANS! Remi Barbier’s chic grandmother has been coming to the East End for the past 30 years. What’s your background? I’m an interior designer, as well as a French teacher. Do the Hamptons remind you of France? The light is the light of the French Impressionist paintings, and the sand is the sand of Normandy. Which designers do you typically wear? Dries Van Noten and Saint Laurent. What’s your definition of chic? Being adapted to who you are and to the circumstances, with a personal twist and an effortless look.

Grey Gardens-ology

Has it already been 40 years since the debut of the classic documentary Grey Gardens? Indeed, although the riches-to-rags tale of the Beale family still feels full of revelation. To commemorate the occasion, the Bay Street Theater will revive the musical version of this East Hampton legend. Time for a history lesson! BY EDDIE ROCHE REPORTING BY VANESSA KOWALSKI 1895: Stanhope Phillips and Margaret Bagg Phillips purchase four acres of oceanfront land in East Hampton for $2,500 from a certain Mr. Candy. 1897: Joseph Greenleaf Thorpe, a popular East End architect during the late 19th century, designs the shingle-style home. 1913: Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Hill buy the cottage. Mrs. Hill, an animate horticulturist and garden writer, Grey Gardens today

creates the admired “grey gardens.”

1924: Phelan and Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale acquire the home and name it Grey Gardens, as it was revered as having one of the finest gardens on the East Coast.

Filmmakers David and Albert Maysles with the Edies

1946: Via telegram from Mexico, Phelan Beale informs wife Edith that he plans to divorce her. 1952: “Big Edie,” as she is known, implores her daughter and namesake, “Little Edie,” to return to Grey Gardens instead of continuing to live at the Barbizon Hotel for Women, in New York City. January 10, 1972: Gail Sheehy, a neighbor of the Beales and a writer at New York magazine, interviews Little Edie and publishes “The Secret of Grey Gardens,” revealing the unusual goings-on at the house. The story gains traction, and the Beales receive international attention. Big Edie’s niece, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, ultimately offers financial assistance to help restore the home.

chic trial!

During our 13-year existence, we’ve tested thousands of hair products that promise to transform our coifs. Few have proven effective. Recently, we encountered Obliphica, a new seaberry-based hair-care line that has become an in-office obsession. After a week’s worth of 90-degree days, we grew tired of listening to all the complaints about humidity, so we sent some samples to our favorite tastemakers. Hear their stories!

Paige Novick, designer

“I have to admit that I was skeptical at first, having used every hair product known to femalekind, but Obliphica was a game-changer. The trifecta of the shampoo, nourishing mask, and serum left my hair softer, silkier, and easy to manage. I loved how lightweight the serum was and how shiny and lustrous my hair felt without being greasy. I received multiple compliments on the luster and volume, and the best part was that I was frizz-free! I got some intel on the seaberry used in Obliphica; apparently, the fruit itself is a centuries-old natural beauty secret known to have healing, rejuvenating, and protective powers. So cheers to Obliphica—it’s all that and a bag of chips.”

“Use Obliphica products once, and you’ll never use another hair product! My hair has never looked better. The delicately scented seaberry shampoo thoroughly cleanses your hair, and the seaberry hair mask is phenomenal. It leaves your hair feeling as if you were just in a top salon. My hair had amazing body with no trace of residue or coating, and it was left entirely smooth and full with absolutely no frizz. It stayed clean and smooth for days with just a spritz of the miraculous seaberry hair serum. I will never use another hair product. Obliphica is truly miraculous!”

“After a few too many weekends at the beach, my hair was left flat on top and frizzy on the bottom. Not s’cute. After using the Obliphica shampoo (and blowing it out using their amazing serum), my hair was left bouncy, shiny, and crazy soft. Also, I couldn’t stop smelling my hair. Consider me converted. Bonus points for the ultra-chic Hermès orange packaging.”

TRAMP

Milly designer Michelle Smith is no stranger to a tough workout, so we brought the latest fitness craze, trampoLEAN, to her house in Water Mill. Naturally, she jumped right in. BY EDDIE ROCHE PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEFANIA CURTO Are you having fun? Yes! I love this, because it was really fun and challenging, and I feel like a little kid again. There’s a certain joy to this exercise, with the jumping and the carefree abandon. You and Ralph Rucci are the only sweat-drenched designers we’ve interviewed. Ralph is a pretty great boxer… Ha! I love to exercise, so I don’t mind. Did you expect this workout to be so hard? No, because it looks like you’re just having fun, but you’re actually pressing down into the trampoline, and it’s more about the down movement than the up movement. It was a big challenge to control myself, stay on the trampoline, and land in the right place. Do you exercise daily? No, but I go to SoulCycle three times a week, and I like Pilates, too. I used to be a runner, but it started to bother my knees and my back, so spinning and trampoline work for me. Love your shirt—is it part of your collaboration with [SoulCycle instructor] Stacey Griffith? Yes! A lot of the T-shirts are “Stacey-isms”—the motivational sayings that she uses in class. For the tank tops, we collaborated on some funny and irreverent phrases.

Such as… “Bad, bad, bad.” Another says “Psycho”—I wore that on vacation. I actually forget that I’m wearing them. I dropped off my child at camp wearing one that says “Bend over once a day,” because in Stacey’s class, she asks everyone to bend over the handlebars to work the butt. These shirts are always conversation starters! How did you and Stacey initially meet? I was trying to lose the last 10 pounds of baby weight after my son was born, and it was a struggle. A friend told me about her class, and I was immediately hooked. We got to know each other through mutual friends. We share the same sense of humor and a love of pop culture. What else is new? This is the third season I’ve had my own store in East Hampton, and it’s fantastic. I feel like people really know about us now. Business is great. Do you encounter many Milly fanatics on Main Street? I do! I don’t know if they would want to be mentioned, but it feels great to have die-hard Milly fans. What I do is a labor of love, and to see people enjoy it is the greatest thing. Think you’ll return to the trampoline again? Definitely. I could see myself becoming addicted!

FEELING THE BURN!

With trampoLEAN’s Louis Coraggio What are the benefits of the trampoline? It gets your heart rate going, increases oxygen, burns calories, helps you lose weight, and gives you a nice, lean body. Every time you bounce on the trampoline, you activate your ab muscles. It also has similar benefits as swimming, so you’re burning off a large amount of calories and working all your muscles at the same time. It’s one of the best detoxifying exercises because of the vertical acceleration and deceleration of bouncing. How can people do this with you? I have a studio in New York City where I have classes going on seven days a week. Then I have a pop-up location in East Hampton at the Neighborhood House. I also teach private classes at people’s homes. Is this the next big craze? Absolutely. People want to have fun again with their fitness routine. The trampoline used to be quite popular in the ’80s, and now it’s having a resurgence. I use a premium fitness trampoline that has bungee cords. How would you rate Michelle Smith as a student? Once she got on the trampoline, she just fell in love with it. She was jumping and bouncing and doing all these athletic movements with a big smile. You have a lot of fashion clients. I train Valentino when he’s in town. Right now he’s yachting around the Mediterranean somewhere, but when he gets back to New York, I’ll see him. Have you gotten him on the trampoline? Not yet. For more information on trampoLEAN, call (516) 768-0889.

SUMMER

VIBES

For Ramy Brook designer Ramy Sharp, summer on the East End doesn’t come without its fair share of work-related duties. But after successfully executing a pop-up shop at Navy Beach to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation, Sharp is ready for some well-deserved R&R. How does she do it? BY SYDNEY SADICK PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEFANIA CURTO FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

First things first: How was your pop-up party? It was amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better day—the weather was beautiful and the crowd was fabulous! From the minute the pop-up opened, we had women shopping and mingling. It was great to introduce the brand to those who haven’t seen our collection before, as well as see women who have been fans of the brand since the start. Navy Beach is definitely the go-to place in Montauk during the summer, and throughout the day there were so many families enjoying lunch and dinner, in addition to some of my closest friends who came to support. Why did you partner with the Navy SEAL Foundation? It’s such an important organization that helps servicemen and -women, as well as their families. It is a cause that is close to the owners of Navy Beach, which we were happy to support. What were the best sellers of the day? The cover-ups were the crowd favorites. They’re great pieces to throw on as you head to the beach and can easily be dressed up with a belt or simple jewelry if you’re heading to dinner or cocktails. How’s your summer? I can’t complain! While busy, I’ve been lucky enough to get in some travel, including Italy and Turkey. Any free time we have we spend as a family in the Hamptons. What’s your ideal beach-to-dinner look? The Ramy Brook summer collection is really focused on versatile pieces that can take you from the beach to dinner, but one of my favorite pieces has to be the Paris sleeveless dress. It’s a flattering piece that can be dressed up or down based on the occasion. For those chilly beach nights, we have a version of this dress with long sleeves. Where else are you selling the line on the East End? Kyle by Alene Too in Southampton. They are one of the first stores that sold my line when I started the company five years ago. What’s your preferred method of entertaining? We love having our friends and family over, which works out perfectly because my husband, Rob, is an amazing cook and I love to entertain! We’ve been so busy this summer, but we’ve had a few small dinner parties with close friends. Just recently, we invited the whole Ramy Brook team to our

home in Bridgehampton, where we spent the day swimming, hanging out, and of course, eating amazing food. What’s the most-worn piece from your new collection? To this day, this is still one of the hardest questions for me to answer! For the summer, I always love the pieces in the collection made in Japanese tech fabric. It’s such an easy fabric, and the pieces that are crafted with this material—such as our Pamela top, Meryl jumpsuit, and Lindsay dress—are so breezy, sexy, and easy to wear. You can pack them in your weekend bag and throw them on without any maintenance. You can’t go wrong! What’s your best tip for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall? “Buy now, wear now” is an important element of the collection, but we also believe that pieces shouldn’t be limited to one season. Our favorite summer styles also work for fall when you add a chic leather jacket or sweater. Color is also key when it comes to transitioning your wardrobe— pieces in unexpected neutral, such as a blush, are really great, as they can be worn with light separates in the summer months and then paired with darker colors for the fall. What’s the latest from your new flagship in Soho? The store is doing great. I can’t believe we’re about to hit our one-year anniversary! I try to spend a few days a week there, so I can meet the women who wear Ramy Brook. I love to hear their stories and create looks just for them!

Buy now, wear now is an important element of the collection, but we also believe that pieces shouldn’t be limited to one season.”

SISTER ACT

For Mississippi natives Trisha and Caroline Gregory, PR is in the blood. When the stylish sisters aren’t handling press for Salvatore Ferragamo and J. Mendel, they can be found relaxing on the East End. BY PAIGE REDDINGER PHOTOGRAPHY BY RYAN LIU What are your Hamptons haunts? Trisha Gregory: Southampton. Caroline Gregory: Montauk. Crow’s Nest is my favorite weekend escape! You travel to Europe for work. What are your favorite spots there? Trisha: Anywhere in Italy! After spending one-third of my lifetime with Ferragamo, I consider myself part Italian. I love traveling around the Amalfi Coast and the Italian Riviera. Caroline: My heart is tied to Italy, so I’ll be going to Positano for my honeymoon, then to the south of France! What are your plans for the summer? Trisha: I traveled throughout Italy to Portofino and Como, which are incredible, but my summer highlight has been Porto Ercole’s Hotel Il Pellicano, which is absolute perfection! From now on, I’m staying around the East Coast before my baby sister’s wedding in late August! Caroline: I’m planning my wedding in Charleston, South Carolina. Do you like to travel together? Trisha: Of course! We literally like the exact same places and activities—laying out, laying out, and laying out. I even let her borrow my secret stash of Ligne St Barth Roucou oil when she’s nice to me. Do you ever argue? Trisha: She probably thinks I’m bossy and that I treat her like my assistant! Caroline: She won’t let me borrow her tanning oil… Where is the best place you’ve been for work? Trisha: Shooting a story for Elle with [Ferragamo designer] Massimiliano Giornetti at Le Sirenuse in Positano was pure fun. Also, shooting a campaign in São Paulo was a trip to remember. Caroline: I love my stays at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where I can spy on Rob Pattinson. Where do you go to escape the fashion crowd? Trisha: Anywhere but Montauk! Caroline: I head south to Mississippi. Where do you go to find the fashion crowd? Trisha: Sunset Beach. I always run into so many friends from the industry there. Caroline: Surf Lodge on a Sunday…all my peeps are there. What are your summer wardrobe musts? Trisha: Anything from the Chloé Spring/Summer 2015 collection and anything from the Spring/Summer 2011 Ferragamo runway, my favorite collection ever. Caroline: J. Mendel Resort 2015, because it’s very chic. It’s what I’ll be packing for my honeymoon, and of course, my Lela Rose wedding dress, which is definitely my favorite must-have.

I like going to the Hamptons because all my friends are there, and it’s where I got engaged!”

FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

Caroline and Trisha Gregory

What are the pros and cons of the Hamptons summer experience? Trisha: The Hamptons is such an easy escape and can be super relaxing and chill. It’s gorgeous and a place I’ve visited since I first moved to New York, but it’s not Europe. The Europeans—I’m looking at you, Antonio Sersale of Le Sirenuse!—are so hospitable, and the effortless elegance and sophistication are unparalleled. Caroline: I like going to the Hamptons because all my friends are there, and it’s where I got engaged! Flat sandals or heels? Trisha: I’m digging my Marni flats for around-the-clock wardrobing, but I’m a heels girl. I’ll for sure be in this season’s Ferragamo platform wedges. I’m 5-foot-11, so why not be taller? Caroline: Sandals, so that I can go straight from the beach to the bar. Dining al fresco or indoors? Trisha: Al fresco, always! When visiting friends in Quogue, I love to eat at Station. Caroline: Al fresco. Scoring an outside seat at Navy Beach is the best. What do you miss about Southern summers? Trisha: We miss our other sister, Susannah! We grew up on a farm in Mississippi and totally miss those laid-back, carefree times together. But we don’t miss the heat!

PRIVATE DRAMA

Dying for a little theater fix, but loath at the idea of taking in your Shakespeare among the masses? Help is here! Go People, a British troupe, would just love to turn your living room or backyard into a virtual stage. Lucy Evans, the group’s ringleader, explains the process. BY EDDIE ROCHE

What’s the scoop on what you’ve dubbed “private theater”? The idea came from one of our patrons, who made a throwaway comment that we should do a play in her house because her dining room was very large. That got our creative juices flowing. What happened next? We tried it in a flat in London, and a journalist picked up on it. The Independent came and wrote an article, and things took off. The idea is that the shows are portable and don’t require sets—we want the client’s home to be the focus. What shows have you done? Win/Lose/Draw, Noël Coward’s Ways and Means, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, The Provoked Wife, and Almost, Maine. If a host has a particular desire, we’re happy to create it. What inspired your arrival in the Hamptons? After every play, we come out and socialize, and I met an American who said that we’d be a perfect fit for the Hamptons. I had been to Southampton, and thought it was a great idea. I know the social FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

scene here, and people are always looking for something different. What’s your plan? This summer, we’re doing a trial run. We’re only coming for 10 days in August, but if people like it, we’ll make a more serious commitment in the coming summers. How many members do you have? Seven. The three of us who run the company— Freddie Hutchins, Melanie Fullbrook, and myself— and four other actors. What’s the cost? It ranges from $3,000 to $4,500. It would be slightly different if someone wanted a specific play, because we’d have to get the company together, rehearse, and buy the rights. Do you wear costumes? Yes! It’s lovely, because the Noël Coward play is set in the 1920s, so we wear all kinds of gorgeous clothes from that era, which we will be traveling with across the ocean. The Midsummer’s Night Dream costumes are brilliant. We had to create a version of that play that uses only seven actors—typically, there are 15 actors.

Do you have any performances lined up yet? We have a few bookings already and are in talks with others. If on our first night of performing one of the guests wants us to perform five days later at his house, as long as we’re free, we can accommodate. Where will you stay? Theater angels will be hosting us in different homes. Mansions, we hope! That would be best, but beggars can’t be choosers. What have you told the rest of the company about the Hamptons? I’ve been telling them about how I was blown away by the scenery and the calmness. If we end up with loads of bookings, we’re going to have a complete laugh. If we end up with only three bookings, it will be great as well because of the beaches and restaurants. There’s a fine line between wanting to get as many bookings as possible and not wanting to lose the exclusivity of what we do. You’re really treating yourself by having a theater come to your very own living room or garden. Your plan is very ambitious, and we love it. Thank you! It feels like the right kind of risk. We’ll jump off the cliff and I feel like someone will catch us. But let’s talk again in two months! s h u t t e r s t o c k ; a l l o t h e r s COURTES Y

I could certainly afford a share, but it’s more fun to go out for the night without knowing where I’m going to end up.”

FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

True Life:

I’m Every Father’s Worst Nightmare

Tensions between Montauk locals and the town’s party-heavy summer crowd are growing by the weekend. Isn’t it about time you met one of these troublemakers? Warning: This randy young Romeo’s tales of East End shenanigans are not for the faint of heart! BY EDDIE ROCHE How’s your summer? It’s been an adventure, for sure. I’ve been out in the Hamptons every weekend, but I’m not getting hotel rooms on purpose, because I go home with a different girl each night. It’s led to some pretty interesting scenarios—everything from waking up on the beach to waking up in a mansion. I’ve even been kicked out of a few houses. I could certainly afford a share, but it’s more fun to go out for the night without knowing where I’m going to end up. Why is that so appealing? Something’s wrong with me? I don’t know, but it’s freeing to submit to this lifestyle. There’s no security, and I find that exhilarating. Do you consider yourself extremely handsome? I like to think so. How are you courting women? I go out late, and by the time I get somewhere, everyone around me is wasted, and I’m not. It’s easy to get hit on very aggressively, and it’s just a matter of pulling the trigger. Sometimes you can pull the trigger. What’s the age range of your female admirers? They’re between 25 and 45. I’m not picky about age. Every woman has something to offer. What do older women bring? They know what they want and how to get it. They don’t want any emotional bulls**t. The younger girls? They’re a little more innocent but very enthralled. They want to have a big weekend in the Hamptons. They tend to get a little more wild. They want to do something they’ve never done before, and I get to be a story that they can tell their friends the next day. Do you buy them drinks? I’d feel guilty putting more liquor in some of them. I very rarely do that. You’re the bad boy with a heart of gold! What would your mom think of this? She would be absolutely horrified. My mother is a conservative woman who goes to church every weekend. How did you end up sleeping on a beach? It was Navy Beach, actually. I hooked up with a girl who lived across the way and her ex came home. She made sure there wasn’t a fight—I’m not exactly a fighter—but I didn’t have a place to stay and the beach was right there. Was it cold out there? It was, but I didn’t really sleep much, because the sun came up in two hours or so. I went back to one of the beach clubs, grabbed my little tote bag, took a shower, and pressed restart. What’s in your little tote bag? Shoes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and a change of clothes for the weekend. Very often, I mix and match the clothes. Underwear? I bring three pairs—four on a good weekend.

What do your friends think of your living situation? At first they thought it was very funny, and now they want to see how long I can make it last. I don’t see any reason to stop. I think I can make it through the end of the summer. I’ve gotten this far. What kind of girls do you like? A girl I want to go home with might not be the same kind of girl I want to date. It’s not like I want to date anyone soon anyway. I do like blondes. I’ve always been in favor of them. Do you, um, use protection? Every time. What was it like to wake up in a mansion? When I woke up, I was served breakfast by a maid with a note that let me know that the girl was playing her morning tennis, and she’d be back in an hour. Did you wait? No. Never repeat. Get out of there early. Those are words to live by! Would you call yourself a hustler? I don’t like the negative connotation that comes with that word, but I’m certainly working for a bed every night. Would you call yourself promiscuous? I’m probably the definition of promiscuous. [Laughs] Do you ever exchange phone numbers? I try not to. It’s a small community and I end up running into most of them again. In the mornings, the conversation comes up, but typically I try to get out of there early. Some try to find me, but I try to limit giving details about myself as much as possible. Where do the prettiest girls hang out? Surf Lodge is a gold mine. Why don’t you want love? My heart’s a little bruised. I’ve put that on pause for a little bit. A lot of the locals hate people like you! They despise me. Is that fair? Absolutely. I’m everything they don’t want Montauk to become—someone who goes in and takes advantage of a situation. I don’t play this game when I’m out there in the week. It’s much more fun to enjoy the area for all the beauty and nature. I do that during the week. The weekend is an adventure. Some locals still like me, but the residents who do the town hall meetings…I’m not what they want. Do you feel bad for them? A little. At the same time, we’re giving them so much money that they’re able to rent their houses out for the summer for hundreds of thousands of dollars. They can complain, but they are getting compensated financially. Except from you! Do you make six figures? Yeah. I could afford a share in a house if I wanted to. So, what’s the thrill? Not knowing what’s going to happen. Good thing you shower! You’ve gotta put the game face on for the next day. shutterstock

Corcoran Group’s Cee Scott Brown plus! Talents from Douglas Elliman and Saunders

CHIC estates

Jessica Hudson, SAUNDERS

Cee Scott Brown, Corcoran Group Coming out East since… The early ’80s, with a 10-year hiatus weekending and summering upstate, north of the Catskills. Neighborhood: Sag Harbor Village. Usual haunts: Studio 89 Training Facility, Minardi Athletes Private Training, Parrish Art Museum, Beale and Bell in Greenport. Grocers of choice: Sag Harbor Farmer’s Market and Cloverdale Certified Farmers Market. Shopping musts: I’m not much of a shopper. My husband, John Bjornen, does a lot of the selecting for me. I do love Brunello Cucinelli, however. Favorite street: Mill Hill Lane in East Hampton. I love how the entire street is lined with majestic plane trees. A great client is… Someone who is happy with their transaction(s) and refers friends and colleagues. Prospective buyers should ask… Is a particular property they might be considering recognized as “good value”? Best part of the job: Matching up a buyer or seller with the right seller or buyer. Listening is key.

Coming out East since… 2008, and I’ve been here full-time since I bought my house in 2011. Restaurant haunts: Inlet Seafood in the summer, and the Tavern at the 1770 House in the winter. Estia’s and its awesome staff have my heart year-round. Grocers of choice: Cavaniola’s in Sag Harbor, and Cromer’s for meat. Many of the top restaurants buy their meat from the butcher there. I love to marinate some chicken breasts and throw them on the grill with some of our amazing local veggies. Traffic tips: Sadly, I think GPS has practically made the back roads extinct. There are still a few left, but agents and locals have been sworn to secrecy. Best beach: Gibson Beach in Sagaponack is beautiful, and it doesn’t require a parking pass until July 1. I also love the tranquility of bay beaches, like Maidstone Beach in East Hampton. Favorite farmstand: The Green Thumb in Water Mill has an incredible selection of organic local produce. It’s a great place to get some picnic treats, including the best peach pie ever! Celebrity moment: I saw Jimmy Fallon at Tutto Il Giorno. He was having a drink with a friend of mine, and I was lucky enough to get to join. Prospective buyers should ask… What are the zoning, clearing, and setback requirements for this property? Each area has varying rules and regulations based on property size, location, surroundings, and more. This can make a big difference in what can be done with the property, such as adding a pool, expanding, cutting down trees, and more. A great client is… Honest and loyal.

Justin Agnello, James Keogh, and Hara Kang, Douglas Elliman Coming out East since… James: 1989, when I started second grade here. Justin: 2004, right after college. Hara: Ditto! Abodes: East Hampton. Career histories: We all graduated with business degrees and started doing real estate in the Hamptons right out of college. Haunts: Bostwick’s and the Beacon. Cocktail of choice: A mojito at Navy Beach. Favorite street: Hedges Banks Drive. It’s as quiet as it can get in East Hampton in August! Exercise regime: Surf, tennis, surf, golf, surf. We hit the gym when it gets cold. Most memorable sale: Kathleen Turner’s house in Amagansett. It was a classic old house with third-story master and endless ocean views. It was a great buy in a tough market. A great client is… Someone you develop a friendship with, who seeks local advice beyond the real estate market. Prospective buyers should ask… Where is the closest beach? Can we close before summer? Best part of the job: Getting a nice buyer everything they asked for.

Exercise regime: Surfing in the ocean. Most memorable sale: 124 Soundview Drive, right next door to my parents’ house. I put the deal together while in my wet suit and a few weeks later, Hurricane Sandy hit. We still closed on the property. A great client is… One who doesn’t want to live in the real world anymore! A prospective buyer should ask… Can I close before the summer? Best part of the job: I get to pick my kids up from school and head to the beach with my family. Client cravings: Open layouts and finished lower levels, like a wine cellar and a movie room.

Weekend Revelers Know Not What They Do (MONTAUK) All-night parties, uncontrol-

lable noise, public urination: Tensions between Montauk residents and the oncesleepy fishing village’s twentysomething summer set are becoming more strained by the weekend. But some visitors fail to understand what all the fuss is about. “I don’t get why they hate us so much here in Seaside,” said Tommy Katt, a resident of Queens and part-time cell phone salesman, drinking beer from a funnel on the side of Montauk Highway as a female friend attempted to apply sunscreen to his blistered neck. “This town has always been about partying, dude.” When a reporter informed Mr. Katt that Seaside Heights is in New Jersey, he became even more disoriented. “Seaside, seashore, Seagram’s, whatever!” he exclaimed. “I pop the first top around noon on Friday at Penn Station, and wherever the train takes me, I’m cool with it.”

Local Surfing: Not All That Great (NAPEAGUE) Despite the ubiquity of thousand-dollar surfboards—to say nothing of the brisk business being done at Pilgrim Surf + Supply—a recent study has found that the Atlantic Ocean produces few quality waves on the East End. Needless to say, this comes as quite a shock to the hundreds of finance guys practicing their paddling skills among the modest swells in Napeague. “I swear that last one was ankle-size,” says Brody Fredericksberg, an ex-Lehman guy, shaking the water out of his chin-length hair and onto his custom Thom Browne wet suit. Although new to the sport, Fredericksberg recently purchased a “surf shack” at Montauk Downs, a dilapidated yet oceanfront trailer park, for $1.2 million. Like many of his compatriots, he’s often seen driving to dinner with his custom board sticking out of the back of his fully restored Land Rover Discovery. “I hear the surfing’s great in California, too,” he says. “Kind of on par with Napeague, if you ask me.”

(EAST HAMPTON) In an attempt to conduct business in the midst of the “Uber ban” imposed by the town of East Hampton, the area’s ever-resourceful Uber drivers have vowed to continue servicing the East End by adopting camouflage tactics. A group of drivers pooled their resources to buy the entire inventory of Joe Deal’s Bargain Priced Rides for Every Body in the Hampton Bays. They were able to secure 54 cars, all produced between 1982 and 1988, for a mere $8,000, or approximately the total revenue of an Uber driver during an August weekend in East Hampton. “It’s a shame that my Mercedes-Benz is sitting in a driveway in Queens,” says Unger Mployd, who now finds himself behind the wheel of an ancient Econoline van. Meanwhile, the local taxi drivers are livid. “I can’t believe that they’re making the cars look like ours,” says Abdul François O’Donnell al Moustafa Junior. “That should be illegal!”
