On Monday and Tuesday, team Daily hit Equinox’s Soho location (a fashion world favorite) to host a morning yoga class and a rousing edition of the brand’s new boxing regime, The Cut. One Management models Nina Daniele and Carola Remer joined Soul Artists’ Bart Grzybowski and Nicholas K’s Christopher Kunz in the sweat sesh. “I never worked out so hard in my life,” said Daniele after class. “Next time, I will sleep more than four hours and drink water beforehand!” Remer affirmed the intensity of the experience. “We were moving so fast—not the easiest way to wake up,” she admitted. But if you’re looking for a total body transformation, consider The Cut to be a worthy obsession.
FITNESS FIX!
What’s your fitness motto? Don’t give up. Being healthy requires dedication and resolve. It’s not a fad diet or a sprint to the finish. The key is to build upon your successes day to day, and to steadily create a lifestyle that incorporates a healthy diet, regular exercise, and plenty of sleep. What’s your definition of a healthy body? I think a healthy body is a functional one, both on a mental and physical level, because these two realms are intertwined. My dad always said that your brain is also a muscle that needs exercise. How often do you exercise? I try to work out about five days a week, with one active recovery day and a full rest day. What do you love about Equinox? The trainers are extremely talented, and their classes are always really fun but also challenging. They have absolutely gorgeous facilities, with numerous locations around the city. Last but not least, the staff is super polite, courteous, and helpful. What did you get out of the class? [Instructor] Mary O didn’t let up; seeing her coordination and speed really motivated me to keep pace. I was dripping! FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

Welcome back to the Frick! I’m so honored to be showing here because, to me, it’s the most beautiful museum in New York. Tell us about the collection. I need clothes that make a woman look even more beautiful than she already is, so this is my perception of beauty with new technology. I’m always for new technology, because I love going to the future and forgetting the past.
BRIDAL BEAT!
WITH HILARY RHODA
No runway this season? It’s my first time sitting for this show. Mrs. Herrera designed my wedding dress. It’s at my house in the Hamptons, sitting pretty in a bag. I love it so much. I wish I could wear it to an event. It would work as a regular dress. How did you spend Valentine’s Day? It was cold, so we hibernated, then I went to Danielle Snyder’s place to play with her sister’s baby. Hopefully, we’ll see Hamilton later this week!

Love the set. It’s very boring to watch a fashion show on a white runway with white walls. My team has made my dreams come true. They’ve helped me develop everything from Malibu to the rock festival to the islands. You’ve been to them all. Thank you so much for your support. What inspired the nautical moment? I love nautical, yachting, sailing. We’ve always done nautical for Spring/Summer, but winter nautical is very appealing with the great coats and gold buttons and authentic military details. This is awesome. How did this all come about? I’ve been working on a solo record, but as for fashion, I said, “Why aren’t we doing this?” Who’s the customer? We want everybody, but it’s not the cheapest line. The most expensive thing is $400, but I feel guilt. If you were a kid who worked at Subway… Did you work at Subway? Yeah. I came home smelling. I still eat it. Internationally, it’s still the only place you can get pickles. It’s true! Katie Grand styled your lookbook. My Katie Grand slam? I love her so much. SHOW OF STRENGTH Standout collections from Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thom Browne, Rag & Bone, and Jeremy Scott. BY ASHLEY BAKER & PAIGE REDDINGER
CAROLINA HERRERA
GETTY IMAGES
The Frick Collection was the ideal setting for Carolina Herrera’s richly textured take on Fall. (Austerity is not Herrera’s thing, luckily for us.) The show was so polished and pristine that if you walked out of the place with the unshakable urge to ditch your denim and retouch your lipstick, you’re not alone. A black sequined sweater and a seafoam-green ruffled skirt on Lily Aldridge were a testament to the power of dressing for the occasion. If it’s a fête in Santorini you’re destined for, try the wide-leg chalk trousers, paired with a sleeveless tunic appliquéd in small red buds and festooned with a long ribbon. If it’s dinner à deux, the long-sleeved black shift, covered in white silk flowers, is a surefire charmer. If you’re running the hautest hedge fund in town, might we suggest the sublime fur tunic over a multilayered silk chiffon skirt for your holiday dinner at Daniel? In Herrera’s world, dressing down is rarely desirable. Instead, she suggests, dare to elevate.

Entanglement has never looked so good. Chez Thom Browne, the once-humble necktie becomes a metaphor for both loving embrace and intolerable constraint. The more romantic interpretation of his idea showed up in sculptural headpieces; the latter was suggested by a cartoonish version wrapped askance around a model’s arms and torso. Browne further explored the idea of dichotomy by using a half look here and a half look there to create something resembling a whole. “I cannot bring a world quite round/Although I patch it as I can,” wrote Wallace Stevens in the poem “The Man With the Blue Guitar.” Whatever brilliant madness is on Browne’s mind, he has certainly devised a richly rewarding way of working through it all in style.

TOMMY HILFIGER All aboard the S.S. Contrarian! Tommy Hilfiger went nautical for fall, turning the Park Avenue Armory into a ship-shape spectacular and injecting some feel-good fashion into a season of ultraserious clothes. Stripes, an anchor print, sparkly collars, and the occasional tiara made for a winning formula. Of the many riffs on the sailor suit, the overalls seen paired with a tough-girl tank on Binx Walton were extra strong. Hilfiger used so many buttons and pins in all incarnations that it’s safe to say that the Garment District’s trimming shops will have a very good first quarter. And if the waters are rough, well, a furcollared moto jacket or a long shearling are sure to stave off any chills.
To make Rag & Bone’s very cool cocktail, start with a tracksuit, add three or four military touches, flavor with a few spoonfuls of Formula One, and finish with a dash of menswear. Serve with a side of live music from Thom Yorke and friends, and consider yourselves lucky. David Neville and Marcus Wainwright bang out solid collections so consistently that their look could easily get formulaic. But that’s never the case, and all their fans need are a few new seasonal updates to keep the look fresh. Accessory fiends will also find plenty of excuses to indulge—not like those zip-front boots are going to induce bankruptcy. Thanks, guys!

JEREMY SCOTT “The collection is a bit like Dolly on Molly,” explained a post-show Jeremy Scott. The songstress part gave us the blonde bouffants, ’80s-rific minis, a guitar motif, and enough high-waisted denim to outfit all of Dollywood. Molly provided psychedelic metallics, a spacey print, and an overall wackadoo styling job. And don’t forget the ’90s: This season’s cartoon inspiration came mostly from Ren & Stimpy, although a funky leopard skirt suit was straight out of The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones. Rubber cowgirl boots completed the joie. “I kept the guys in sneakers, because I wanted them to have that nightclub, early ’80s, Lower East Side vibe,” Scott explained. We loved!

To the future…and beyond! Would it surprise you to learn that Carol Lim and Humberto Leon were inspired by artist Syd Mead this season? You know Syd from his design work on Tron and Blade Runner, and you know Carol and Humberto for their aggressively chic ideas on what fashion should look like on the streets. These creative forces packed a powerful punch this season, with velvet anoraks, lamé shirts and skirts, and even some of Mead’s illustrations making cameos among the everyday fare, like palazzo pants, high-waisted denim, and swingy coats.

“Emily always looks great. She knows how to be pretty but sexy at the same time. This was really the first time she wore a white gown on the red carpet, so it was exciting, and the Grecian effect was striking but feminine.”
Poly wore a custom gold metallic fil coupé bias gown for the premiere of The Sea of Trees during the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2015.
“I love when someone looks like they stepped off the beach, slipped on a gown, and arrived at the red carpet. Kate is the ultimate California girl and one of my favorite people to dress because she knows what works for her. She was a knockout in this dress—the demure color and provocative cut were the perfect balance.”
“Zendaya is fearless, which I love. She’s not afraid to mix things up, and she can look sweet and sophisticated one moment, bold and daring the next. We had this crystal-encrusted Perspex skirt from our Transeason collection; worn with a gray turtleneck, it’s perfect for a chic fashionista like Zendaya.”
5 “This is one of my favorite red carpet looks. Sometimes it all comes down to the right girl in the right dress at the right moment. Natasha in head-to-toe gold at Cannes was definitely a little bit of fashion magic.”

Lawrence wore a black crop top with a black pencil skirt from the Fall 2015 collection while out on June 28, 2015.

“The ultimate golden girl. We had made dresses for Gigi for the CFDA Awards, but once she put on the jumpsuit…we both knew that was the one. I always think pants are a refreshing choice for night, and this jumpsuit certainly didn’t lack glamour. It felt young, modern, and totally chic.”

DAKOTA JOHNSON
Johnson wore a crimson poppyprint silk-chiffon handkerchief dress with a black tie belt from Spring 2016 to the Michael Kors Ginza Store opening on November 20, 2015.

“This look was amazing because it made the crop top an everyday essential. Jennifer looked fabulous. I love that she was just walking out of her hotel—she looks powerful, confident, and on-the-go glamorous.”
“Talk about 50 shades of chic! Dakota looked stunning at our store-opening event in Tokyo. She is the definition of Hollywood royalty, especially in this dress from our Spring collection. It was the perfect mix of femininity and romance for her.”

TUMI, FALL 2016 Luxe woven totes and leather accessories are everyday must-haves.
BAGGAGE CLAIM You’ve had quite an interesting career. It’s been a charmed life. I’m proud of every place I’ve worked, and I’m a super brand loyalist to every one of them to this day. I want to work at places where when you see it out in the street, you say, “Yeah, I had something to do with that. I’m proud that someone spent a great deal of money on something that I put blood, sweat, and tears into.” How did you get into design? I went to the design school at Philadelphia Textile, and then I dropped out to play professional soccer, and then I got a job at Adidas through a friend who remembered I went to design school. Where were you playing professional soccer? I was in England, playing for the Tranmere Rovers. People are always surprised when they hear I was inducted into my high school hall of fame for soccer. I played soccer up until last year—I just got old, I guess. I have a wife, a kid, a job—I can’t seem to squeeze it all into 24 hours. Who do you root for? I’m a huge Liverpool fan. When I go to Europe I always catch a match. It’s nice to park your brain out of design for 90 minutes. My daughter watches it with me occasionally, but she picks colors, not teams. How old is your daughter? She’s 5, but she’s a New Yorker, so she’s like 25. Did you own any Tumi before coming here? I did, but I also had a lot of Prada luggage, truth be told. But I’ve always been a fan of the brand, and that’s one of the things that really drew me here. You have traveled quite a bit for work. What FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M
BY PAIGE REDDINGER PHOTOGRAPHY BY GIORGIO NIRO knowledge do you want to impart to the brand? Travel has changed, and I’ve learned a lot about how it’s changed from my experiences. It used to be you would pack for a two-week trip to Asia, but now, people are flying 3,000 miles for a one-hour meeting and flying back within the same day. The more wired we become, the more things we need to pack, and the more organized we must become. What is your biggest growth category? Women’s has been big for us, but when we drill it down into silhouettes, backpacks, for sure. Premium has also been a really nice moment for the brand. We’re considered a premium. We’re considered the pinnacle of what rolls off the carousel. Our clients trust us for the functionality, and know the product is going to stand the test of time. What does your premium brand entail? It’s more expensive, because of the raw materials and ingredients, but it all combines the same DNA as everything else we make. We are also turning six collections a year now. We are in the same calendar as every other fashion house or fashion brand. The consumer is asking for newness from us. In the past, we were just considered a luggage company. Now, only 40 percent of the brand is luggage—60 percent of our business is done from day bags, electronics, and outerwear. What’s new in women’s for Fall? Our premium CEO collection. Many CEOs are women—a few months ago, I looked at a newsstand in an airport and saw eight female CEOs on the cover of magazines. People often talk about CEOs in a very one-dimensional context, but it could be someone

Michael Petry, Tumi’s creative director, started out as a pro soccer player before turning his talents to design. Now, he plans to make it known that Tumi is about more than high-end luggage for the suit-wearing set.
like [music producer and DJ] Skrillex. Does Skrillex actually use your bags? Yes. He travels something like 250 days out of the year. What we’ve come to realize is almost every DJ carries Tumi, because they have headphones, more than one laptop, power cords, chargers, and more. A lot of stylists and makeup artists also use Tumi. They know their year is basically planned out in a six-month span. They have to be in various countries, carrying garments, and their phone battery is always running low. I even bumped into a major designer in Paris who is a big Tumi carrier. It’s validating that a designer who works for a major brand that makes luggage carries Tumi. That speaks to the kind of products we’re making. Tumi has collaborated with brands like Public School. Do you have any others in the pipeline? Going into 2016, we have two more, but we can’t announce them yet. We just did an Instagram project with photographer Kat Irlin. She shot influencers in our Fall ’16 collection, which she’ll be rolling out on her Instagram [@kat_in_nyc] throughout Fashion Week. Anything else in the pipeline? We are making super products, but how do we evolve into becoming a part of someone’s everyday life? How do we change the perception that we are not just a luggage company but a lifestyle brand? I don’t think anyone needs more products in their lives, but they do need better products. ß
