What’s it like working with Tommy? The most incredible experience. Tommy is the most wonderful person I’ve ever met, besides my mum. He’s been so gracious and allowed me to have freedom in the design and engaged me in the family. Are you having fun? I can’t believe how many people are here. My 21st birthday is the only party I’ve ever done, so this is major. Tommy wanted to throw this party, and as I see so many people wearing the brand, it makes me feel so proud. I’m grateful for all of this!

How are you doing? What’s your relationship like with Tommy? I’m all good! He’s legendary. When I was in high school I would buy vintage Tommy Hilfiger on eBay. Are you a fan of racing? I drive fast. What’s up next for you? A lot of legendary s**t.

How did you meet Lewis? He came up to me at a party; he acted so familiar. I thought, “Who is this cute guy?” Then I saw him talking to Carine [Roitfeld] and she said, “Honey, that’s Lewis, how could you not know?” We got tagged in photos together on Instagram, and he sent one to me. I looked at it and thought, “I love this guy!” Ever since, we’ve been close. My boyfriend and I watch his races all the time. I’m a super fan, and a granny who tells him to buckle up and be safe. He laughs at me. Was he hitting on you by sending the pic? Totally. I need all the attention I can get! You’re really tight with Tommy. I’ve been working with the brand for the past few years, and they’ve been so accepting of me. I’m not the perfect cookie-cutter blogger type. They’ve always supported me. The fact that they go above and beyond for all their s**t, that’s how I like to live my life. I’m the most extra, and so are they.

What’s been the biggest surprise you’ve encountered since taking the top spot at British Vogue? I’ve never really slept, but I didn’t think it was possible to get even less sleep. The biggest surprise is the way that people have embraced the magazine and the idea of diversity and inclusivity. That, I love! Your sales are up! Do you know the numbers? THE DAILY FRONT ROW X AMERICAN EXPRESS PLATINUM WORKING IT Missy Elliott took to the stage for an unforgettable performance.
ONE ENCHANTED EVENING On Monday night, more than 300 guests joined Pharrell Williams and American Express at the Brooklyn Museum to celebrate the Yellow Ball, an event named and inspired by Pharrell to support arts education around the country. “Yellow is the color of creativity and curiosity,” said Williams. “It serves as a representation of the bright light we are shining on the need for arts education, and its incredible power to paint a brighter future for us all.” All ticket sales benefitted Young Audiences Arts for Learning, the largest arts-in-education network in the country; American Express also gifted $1 million to the organization. Guests like Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, and Dustin Yellin took in performances by Missy Elliott, A$AP Ferg, and DJ Stretch Armstrong, and enjoyed a memorable dinner from American Express Global Dining Collection Chef Dominique Crenn. Slight-of-hand tricks by David Blaine and a multiroom art experience by American Express Platinum Collective Member Daniel Arsham rounded out the soirée, which emerged as a major highlight of New York Fashion Week.
art is essential!
WITH ELIZABETH RUTLEDGE, AMERICAN EXPRESS CMO
How did you work with Pharrell to make the Yellow Ball a reality? We were inspired by the notion that when children are exposed to the arts they’re going to do better in school, and in life. We wanted to bring hope and optimism to life through this ball. We worked closely with Pharrell to bring in great chefs, musical talent and fabulous art. What was the last thing you bought with your Platinum card? This bag! It was a special purchase for tonight. Edie Parker, chic! What kind of a shopper are you? I buy special pieces for special occasions. What are you looking forward to experiencing tonight? The food! I’m a big foodie, and I’m hungry! Any restaurant recs? How did you partner with Amex to make the Yellow Ball happen? Amex has a history of supporting organizations, businesses, and people; they do the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro, RED with Bono, and Small Business Saturdays. Education and art are important to me, and the idea that we could put something together to preserve the artistic disciplines at all costs, and the young creatives at all costs. That’s been mind-blowing for me, because most corporations don’t care. I’m so grateful that American Express understands the need for this. I hope the energy we drum up tonight reverberates through other places, and inspires other people to join this cause, and support creatives. Growing up, what inspired you creatively? Music has always just moved me. It’s something that you can’t see, but you can see the effects of. You may not be able to stare right at it, but music moves people; you can feel it. What was the last thing you bought with your Platinum card? I used it for dinner the other night!

FAMILY TIES!
WITH A$AP FERG
Why is arts education important to you? My father was an artist, my grandmother’s an artist, I went to art and design high school. The next step in my career is to give back, pass the torch, and collaborate with some of these young artists, and give them opportunities. How did your ultra-artistic family inspire you? Big shoes to fill! I watched my father build his empire. He had a clothing store, Ferg Apparel, and he did the Bad Boy logo for Puffy. For me to make my stamp, I had to really be doing some monumental things. I had to go very big! What was the last thing you bought with your Platinum card? This yellow Prada hat I found in Paris. It goes with the yellow carpet! Coco Rocha ICON STATUS A$AP Ferg enchants the crowd.

ART BANTER!
WITH DANIEL ARSHAM
Why were you drawn to this cause? I’m a product of arts education. I went to public magnet and art schools since I was young, and I’ve been active in many arts organizations since then. I have two young children, and I see their response to music classes, to any kind of creative pursuits. It’s a moment for them to think abstractly and outside of the everyday. How did you conceptualize these rooms? They’re experiential environments rather than individual works. [The sculpture room] is part of a new series I’m working on, which appear like works in transport. You walk in and it feels like you’re in the museum, but things are kind of wrapped.
SOUNDCHECK! d i m i t r i os k a m bo u r i s/g e t t y i m ag es ( 1 4 )
WITH DJ STRETCH ARMSTRONG
What’s your own history with arts education? My father was a painter, and our living room was a studio. He was also the art teacher at my elementary school, Manhattan Country School, on the Upper East Side. That creative DNA runs through my family. My father played violin and viola in an orchestra in Germany in his twenties. My cousin is an incredible jazz pianist and producer. As a DJ, I’ve always had encouraging, open-minded parents. Art was something we all shared as kids. I gravitated toward music, and my parents were incredibly supportive. They made a deal with the neighbors whereby I could play drums a certain amount of time every day. Those neighbors are saints! If my kid wanted to play drums, I’d try to sway them toward something quiet.

Who’s your designer muse? Donna Karan. I love the way that she drapes her jersey pieces.
NICOLE MILLER
NICOLE MILLER, DESIGNER & FOUNDER What’s the mood of your Spring ’19 collection? Nostalgic and timeless. There’s a bit of an ’80s influence, but I didn’t want to get too caught up in one period or one time zone. The collection has a lot of contemporary dresses.
lUAna italy
Any favorite silhouettes you’re loving for fall? I’m sure I’m not the only person doing this, but I do love a long, oversize blazer. I began last fall, and there was a lot on my runway, but for Spring I made it bigger and longer, and tweaked some of the details. The jacket is like the length of a short dress now. The blazer is definitely back! It’s just got to be a little more interesting.

WOODEN SHIPS
PAOLA BUENDIA, CO-FOUNDER & DESIGNER How has the brand evolved over the years? We’ve become a go-to source, not just for cozy winter sweaters, but also for the best beach sweaters. This year we added new distressed silhouettes and graphics to update our best-selling beach collection.
Where do you find design inspiration? I’m lucky to live in multiple communities: Bali, New York, and Colorado. In each place I have a great tribe of friends—designers, artists, entrepreneurs, yoga teachers—and I think of them all when I design!
TIME’S ARROW
CREATIVE TEAM Who’s your typical customer? The Time’s Arrow girl is always on the go, and has her own sense of style. She’s fun and quirky, and loves to mix designer and fast fashion.
What’s your best-selling style? Our crossbody bags! We’ve been producing them for the past several seasons. This season has two new shapes: the Sadie and the Sadie Mini.

KASANDRA CARLSON, SVP SALES, MERCHANDISING & MARKETING How did you end up in the fashion biz? I originally wanted to be a sports broadcaster as both my parents were once professional athletes. I came across a fashion industry job opportunity in college, to help me pay for school. I quickly fell in love with the business!
What’s new for this season? Spring ’19 is a great combination between Frenchinspired wearable elegance and the flirty first days of spring. There are textured leathers and colorblocking. It’s breathtaking!

We’re known for our gorgeous, unique blouses; that’s what stores come to us for first.
HALE BOB
DANIEL BOHBOT, OWNER & DESIGNER What’s the Hale Bob aesthetic? Feminine, distinctive, one-of-a-kind fashion with a distinctly resort vibe. Our clothes have unique prints and quality fabrics, and they are designed to be transformational.

My mother has wonderful taste, and she instilled that in me. When I was a high school senior, my class voted that I’d be Lady Diana’s stylist, so I guess I had something back then! My first job was with Saint Laurent. Then I worked with some of the greatest designers—Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, and John Galliano at Dior. All these influential people taught me a great deal about business, fashion, design, and image. hale bob

LOVELY?
In the midst of New York Fashion Week, a bevy of beauties graced La Grenouille to celebrate Town & Country’s latest Modern Swans issue with a divine fête hosted by Michael Kors. BY EDDIE ROCHE

Where are you going for college? I’m at film school at USC in cinema and media studies. Any industry needs video these days. IG TV and YouTube, that’s how you tell a story. I also get to live in L.A., and it’s warm. That works out well!

LOTS OF LOVE Catherine Zeta-Jones and Carys Zeta Douglas shower Kors with bisous.
CHIC CHAT! With Michael Kors
What’s your current state of mind? I’m in the middle of our hair and makeup tests. They’re screaming for me to get back to the office. I never mind the craziness before a show. We’ve spent so much time working on it, it’s nice to see everything fall into place. It’s like theater: Your actor’s in costume, the music comes on, and the orchestra strikes up the note. What are your fall theater picks? Straight White Men was fantastic. I’m going back to My Fair Lady with Laura Benanti! I can’t wait to see Kenneth Lonergan’s new play, The Waverly Gallery, and there’s also A Chorus Line at City Center. It’s going to be a busy theater fall!

STUDY BREAK!
Who are you wearing tonight? Michael Kors. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a sexy look or a fun look. I decided to go for the sexy look, and have a Marilyn Monroe– inspired night. Nice. Are you a big Marilyn fan? What’s your favorite movie? I haven’t really watched them! I just know her as an icon. I’m young! I’m 17! Everyone is like, “Have you seen The Devil Wears Prada?” and I’m like, “No!” They think it’s so bad.

How did the Modern Swans issue come about? We did an issue called Debutantes for years, and decided to modernize it with up-and-coming women who deserve our attention. How do you pick the cover star? It’s always a mystery. We saw Carys and Catherine last year at Michael Kors, and we had our eye on them! They have such grace and elegance.

Congrats on being dubbed a swan! It’s my first inside cover. I went to the grocery store with my mom in South Carolina when it came out, and it was a surreal moment. It was really nice to share it with her. What was her reaction? She bought 10 copies, in typical mom fashion.

LOVEFEST!
COVER CHAT! What was the shoot like for you? Carys: I was intimidated and really nervous! The Town & Country team and Victor [Demarchelier] made it so smooth and so fun. Catherine: I had to leave to go to a business meeting, and I told her, “You’re in the best hands here.” Are you going to become a doctor? Carys: I’m really into medicine, psychology, and learning, but I think I’m leaning toward the acting path. We’ll see where it goes! The family dynasty continues! Carys: I wonder where I got that from! Fave films your parents are in? Carys: For my dad, Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile; for a long time, that was the only movie I could see of his! For my mom, it’s Chicago and The Mask of Zorro.
CHEERS!
