DENNIS BASSO

We never complain about a dose of le drame. DENNIS BASSO’s show at The Arc at Moynihan Station became a bit heated when HAL RUBENSTEIN was confronted by an eccentric socialite, brandishing a cane, who was after his front-row perch. “Go back to the eighth row where you belong!” said Rubenstein, who narrowly avoided a serious encounter. • Crowded was an understatement at KITH’s ’s “Kithland” affair at Samsung 837; the line to get in stretched down the block. • Congrats to Daily fave ALAN CUMMING, who celebrated the publication of his new book, You’ve Gotta Get Bigger Dreams, at The Blond at 11 Howard. On hand? CARLA GUGINO, ANDREWANDREW, and yes, MONICA LEWINSKY.

BIG KISS!

WITH IVANA TRUMP

“I DON’T LIKE TO TALK POLITICS. I LIKE TO TALK FUN!” —DENNIS BASSO

Do you ever run into Karl Lagerfeld in St. Tropez? I see him at a bistro right near my house; he goes there all the time. He looks great. He’s lost a lot of weight.

Do you still have a couple of boyfriends? I have companions!

What’s it like having the fam in the spotlight? They’re used to it. I’m not involved in the campaign very much. I don’t really give interviews. There are too many cooks in the kitchen. I support them, and I speak to Donald and support what he’s saying all the way. But I don’t want to talk to CNN or The New York Times.

Thank you, Mrs. Trump! Call me Ivana! [Gives The Daily a big kiss.]

He was a receptionist at a hair salon, and my son used to go there over 30 years ago.

Sunday night. I feel fantastic. I went swimming in the pool at Equinox at Columbus Circle at 5:30 a.m.

How do you know Dennis?

Wow! We’re sure he was quite the receptionist. That speaking voice! It’s very distinctive. And I thought I had a distinctive voice! We’ve traveled around the world together.

Are you still performing? I am. I pick and choose about 12 to 15 concerts a year.

We kind of miss your crazy hats.

Love has changed you!

SWEET NOSTALGIA

RUNWAYReport

From ’80s motifs at Jeremy Scott to the very best of the ’60s chez Michael Kors, designers weren’t afraid of a little time travel. BY ASHLEY BAKER & PAIGE REDDINGER

GETTY IMAGES (7); FIRSTVIEW (6)

JEREMY SCOTT “It was seedy, slimy, dirty, and kind of rough,” says Jeremy Scott of his Spring ’17 inspo. The designer looked to both ’80s-era New York and campy cartoon tropes of Nickelodeon for his Slime City–themed –themed collection. Ready to rock body-con sequined cocktail dresses for night, airbrushed T-shirts for day, and geometric leather handbags for whenever? Same. The new color-blocked body stockings will likely court a different customer—i.e., someone who spends a lot of time onstage. But starlets and plebeians alike have plenty of reasons to invest in Scott this season. Who can resist a popsicleprint sheath? Pointed-toe heels in poppy primary colors, sunnies inspired by Meshach Taylor in Mannequin, and cropped bobs with fierce fringe completed the effect.

FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

RUNWAYReport

NARCISO RODRIGUEZ Quiet riot. Is Narciso Rodriguez entirely averse to flash? With clothes this foolproof, he doesn’t really need it. Contrary to a lot of the stuff we’ve been seeing this week, Rodriguez’s clothes are designed to be worn hard. Peacocks will not be flocking to a perfect black overcoat, lined with a slash of silver, or a liquid gunmetal cocktail dress, smartly dipped in flat sequins. On the print front, Rodriguez played with an abstracted take on city lights, which worked best on an easy day dress.

In his first solo effort for Rag & Bone, Marcus Wainwright relied on the signatures that have been making things rain, proverbally, for the brand: V-neck cable-knit sweaters, slouchy shirtdresses, striped suiting. Color-blocked anoraks and slim leather pants provided an edgy counterpoint to ’90sesque slipdresses and florals. Red, white, and blue, one of the week’s emerging trends, was another dominant theme. The high-waisted, baggy chinos might not be as much of a runaway hit as their signature skinnies, but as always, Rag & Bone is compelled to push something forward.

BRANDON MAXWELL Shania Twain’s girl-power anthem “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” opened Brandon Maxwell’s show. Fittingly, the models came out in simple, straightforward, and wellexecuted attire that appeals to dames of all ages. Each look was in his usual minimal palette, including white, black, blush, and olive. “He knows exactly what women want,” said more than a few women we overheard. Translation? The ultimate black gown to wear to not one but five events, for starters. And a white strapless dress with just the right amount of detail. Maxwell doesn’t need to change things up or present a new “idea” each season. In just two short seasons, he has already landed a winning formula.

RODARTE Everybody bee happy, mmmkay? Just because Rodarte’s collections aren’t the most commercial things in the world doesn’t mean you’ve got to act all stung. Because even if you can’t get behind some of the overly complicated cocktail dresses and gowns—or maybe you don’t have upward of $10K crammed into the back pocket of your Vetements jeans—you can still enjoy the sumptuousness of an otherworldly Mongolian lamb and studded leather coat worn over a wispy something-orother made of honeycomb. And that burnished golden lace number? A total honey.

FA S H I O N W E E K D A I L Y. C O M

RUNWAYReport

Michael Kors is forever the optimist, and thank heavens for that. A swinging ’60s undercurrent ran through Michael Kors Collection, with brightly hued trenches and double-breasted coats rounding out an intensely covetable group of outerwear whose utility will extend far beyond spring. Betty Draper (circa Mad Men’s first few seasons) would feel totally à l’aise in the retro floral dresses and the punchy pink overcoat, but in Kors’ ultranow silhouettes, they’re fully modern. Wooden-soled laceup platforms, new-shape aviators, cross-body bags, and frilly clutches dominated the killer accessories offerings. We’re starting to become dependent on Michael Kors’ positive vibes—not like that’s a problem!

SIES MARJAN Color us happy! For the second consecutive season, Sies Marjan has eschewed black in favor of a supersaturated runway. Electric chartreuse, vibrant orange, carnation pink—no hue escapes designer Sander Lak’s eye, and even the most passé shades feel rejuvenated when subjected to his uncompromising vision of minimal fuss, maximum chic. Anyone who’s been to the designer’s rack at Barneys— which gets more sparsely populated by the moment— will see that his designs are really resonating. Don’t make the Daily’s mistake and wait to try on the look you’ve been lusting after in person—you’d better pre-order before your favorites fly off the shelves.

CULTURE BREAK WITH MICHAEL KORS

Optimism is on your mind! Right now, we want an optimistic tonic. It can’t stop war or cure a disease, but it can put you in a better spirit. What’s on your culture calendar? I’m itching for Judith Light in the new Neil LaBute. I can’t wait to see Jake Gyllenhaal do Sunday in the Park With George at City Center. Tomorrow night I’m seeing the greatest thing in the world at Radio City— Tony Bennett’s 90th birthday with Gaga, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Elton John! I will be the boy peeing in my pants!

BAREFOOT!

WITH RUFUS WAINWRIGHT

GETTING IT DAILY!

How did you meet Michael? He started hanging out when I first did the Judy shows at Carnegie Hall 10 years ago, and he’s kept coming. We heard you forgot something today. My shoes! I should have gone out in bare feet. There’s a barefoot guy somewhere backstage. [Michael Kors’ very own Alex Kamnitsis loaned his shoes to Rufus. Kamnitsis is departing the company this week to head to Paris for a role at Louis Vuitton.]

Aldridge stars in the “Larger Than Life” campaign wearing 73 karats of emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds. Shot by Mario Testino in Rome against a marble backdrop, the campaign pays homage to the brand’s Italian roots. “It’s about intelligence. It’s about lifestyle. It’s about a three-hour lunch,” said Stéphane Gerschel, Bulgari’s international communications director. So what was it like getting to wear millions of dollars worth of fabulous jewels? “It’s a dream come true. Bulgari, to me, is the epitome of Italian glamour,” said Aldridge. “This historic maison stands for pure elegance, sophistication, opulence, and allure. The Serpenti necklace is my all-time favorite piece of jewelry. It’s exquisite.” At the store event, the supermodel wore a solid gold Serpenti Tubogas necklace in 18-karat pink gold with pavé diamonds. Aldridge said when she first found out she was to be the brand ambassador for Bulgari, she celebrated her news with a glass of champagne. “We are honored that Lily Aldridge agreed to be our spokesperson. She is such a versatile and multifaceted ambassador for the brand, and she embodies to perfection the new Bulgari woman—indulgent, unapologetic, always alive, but also unexpected,” said Gerschel. “Bulgari is larger than life. It’s in everything that we do, our DNA, our products, and most important, our attitude. It’s a way of life—bold, full of colors, molto but non troppo….”

Why are you still suffering in this sweatshirt? I’ve already sweated through the other layers, so I’m just hoping it doesn’t come through this one. Lynn Wyatt told us you were one of her favorite new designers! When did you first meet her? This summer, in Texas! I had talked to her on the phone a few times first—we have mutual friends in common. Gaga surprised you today with a bunch of hunky men carrying balloons. She did it early in the morning, and I hadn’t slept, so I was like, “Is this really happening?” She did it once before when I turned 30, so I knew who it was from. How do you chill out when things get stressful? I watch Fixer Upper on my computer.

What happens when class ends? For us, it’s where opportunity begins. We give our students the skills and resources they need—an expert faculty, internships with top companies, and a constantly growing myriad of connections built on our rocksolid reputation—to turn real experiences into real careers. When they enter the workforce, it’s with a confidence that distinguishes them from their peers. We think BEYOND THE CLASSROOM to prepare our students for success beyond graduation.
