U.S faults Buhari’s economic policy on forex

ncumbent governor of Kogi State, Capt. Idris Wada and his platform, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have Àled a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In it, Wada wants the court to stop INEC from conducting/holding a supplementary governorship election in the state Àxed for December 5, or any other date at all. In the alternative, Wada is praying for a consequential order of court directing INEC to conduct fresh governorship
election in Kogi State within a speciÀed time. The motion on notice was Àled on Wada’s behalf by his lawyer, Chief Chris Uche (SAN). Among the questions posed to the court are: “Whether in view of section 178 t0 181of the 1999 constitution [as amended] and sections 31, 33, 34, 36, 85, 87 of the Electoral Act 2010 [as amended], the public notice issued by INEC datedNovember24, 2015 for the holding of a second/supplementary governorship election for Kogi State on December 5, 2015 outside the mandatory electoral timeline is not unlawful, null,
void and of no legal eͿect whatsoever. “Whether INEC as an Independent body and expected unbiased umpire can unilaterally act in liaison with the 3rd defendant(APC) to the exclusion of other political parties that participated in the governorship election in Kogi State, particularly the 2nd plaintiͿ [PDP] on November21, 2015 and thereafter issue a public notice dated November 24, 2015 Àxing supplementary election in Kogi State on December 5, 2015 and allowing the 3rd defendant to Àll the vacancy created by the death of its candidate on the pretext of being notiÀed by the 3rd

he United States government has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to review some of the economic policies so far enunciated by his administration in the interest of Nigerians. Giving this charge at the ongoing 2015 Business Opportunity and Investment Forum organized by Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) in Chicago, Illinois, the Director in charge of :est African AͿairs at the United States Department, Mr. David Reimer criticized the government for backing the decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria on foreign exchange. He said Nigerians may experience hard times in the near future if the policy is not urgently addressed. President Buhari had vowed not to reverse the CBN policy on imposition of strict currencytrading restrictions to save the naira and avoid what would be the third devaluation of the currency within one year. The CBN has also banned importers from using the foreign exchange on for 41 items ranging from rice and toothpicks to steel products and glass wares.
