Welcome to a very special edition of Peninsula People.
Our future magazines will be four-month issues and by streamlining this we can look at mailing out three magazines a year with everything you need to know about your club and your community.
2019 has moved with such a fast pace and now here I am writing a message to introduce the next six months at Ettalong Diggers. I always look forward to seeing every new edition of our club magazine – it’s a truly wonderful asset for our club and one of our most consistent successful communication tools. This special edition of Peninsula People is no exception and I know all our members and guests will be excited by all the upcoming events.
In this particular edition, we also have an informative lift out guide for visitors about our wonderful and hidden secret, Ettalong. This has been compiled by our Tourist Officer, Kim Cole and promotes not only our wonderful suburb, but our local businesses. As a community we are proud and supportive of each other and I believe the potential Ettalong has as a popular tourist destination is endless.
Investing in the future by helping to strengthen the community where we live, and work is an important core value at Ettalong Diggers. After all, we can only make a brighter tomorrow by taking constructive actions today. Over the past few years, Ettalong Diggers has focused its attention on assisting and developing programs and activities that involve the youth of today, to help them achieve their potential.
The most discerning thing about a magazine that projects six months into the future, is the clarity of how fast time is passing and how many amazing things Ettalong Diggers has achieved in the last few years and is continuing to achieve.
With that being said, Ettalong Diggers has launched a program that is helping identify and support the young and untapped talent on The Central Coast. Partnering with SeaFM and Palm Tree Studios, this new initiative is called Next Generation.
With our inhouse dining operation now offering three different dining options, we have appointed a Catering Manager to help grow and manage this area.
Every Thursday evening, starting in April, Riley’s stage will have live entertainment provided by Central Coast kids that have been hand picked because of their exceptional talent. In turn, we are providing them with an opportunity to perform in a professional and safe venue, in front of a live audience and get paid! This is our way of not only nurturing the future talent within our community but doing what clubs do best – giving back.
Mr Bill Jackson
This magazine is a six-month bumper issue that covers April to September 2019. This will be a one off (so this magazine may well be a collector’s item in years to come!).
Recently we had the honour of hosting the Grammy Award winning group, Manhattan Transfer. They are considered the most respected vocal harmony group in the world and happened to be touring Australia for six dates. One of the dates had fallen through and we were able to offer our premises. A baby grand piano had to be delivered, extra staging and production equipment sourced, not to mention a lot of last-minute marketing to get it over the line, but our team did it. The next day we had 1500 people come through for The Wiggles members – Emma & Lachy. What a coup for our little coastal town! I’m so impressed with our strong, growing and active membership that reflects the diversity of vocations and people in our community. As I am writing this, I am preparing for our Strategic Planning Meeting that takes place every year with myself, the Board of Directors and my Senior Management team. It is a productive, insightful and team building initiative, that allows us to look at ways to continue to grow as a business and a club while still staying relevant to the needs, diversity and growth of our community. I look forward to sharing with you all our goals and plans for the future of Ettalong Diggers, that I have no doubt we will achieve. I hope you enjoy this special edition of Peninsula People – it is designed for you, our members and guests because Ettalong Diggers is your club and your destination.
Mr JOHN WOOD
As our CEO, Bill Jackson mentioned, we are soon embarking on our annual Strategic Planning meeting, where Directors and Senior Management work together. Our vision for Ettalong Diggers, is based on hard work, open communication, a strong emphasis on team work and a high level of responsibility. We will continue to plan and work according to plans set, never forgetting to dream. To have a dream, passion and enthusiasm are crucial enablers for making success long term.

The Swing Sisters show pays tribute to the wartime era with the greatest hits of the Andrews Sisters, Edith Piaf and Vera Lynn...... plus great songs from musical legends such as George Gerswhin and the many swing bands of the era. These are songs that inspired nations and raised spirits in times of war. The show features fabulous costumes, old time sing-along’s and plenty to get the audience involved and is guaranteed to recreate the magic of the forties.
Mitch Capone performs Michael Buble & Frank Sinatra and even the most discerning fan will absolutely fall in love with the awesome style and smooth tone of his voice. At the age of 18 Mitch Capone won the role of Australian rock ‘n’ roll icon Col Joye in a local theatre production of ‘Shout – The musical’ and was introduced to the wild sounds of 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll. Mitch is a regular on cruise lines such as Emerald Princess, Norwegian Star, Sun Princess, and Dawn Princess. His great looks, infectious personality and great voice never fails to captivate audiences anywhere.
“50 Years of Legends” is not just about Legendary Singers. That would be too obvious. Paul Hayman also takes the road less travelled and journeys into the legends of the business in all it’s facets, including Song Writers, Music Producers, Film Soundtracks and the fascinating stories behind the hits that have made them Legendary. This is Paul truly in his element. Above all else, as an Entertainer Paul engages with his audience, he performs it... his own unique combination of Musicianship, Storytelling and Light-hearted Humour.

GET ALONG TO ETTALONG THE SOUTHERN GATEWAY TO THE CENTRAL COAST The word Ettalong is an Aboriginal word thought to mean ‘drinking place’. Originally occupied by the Dharruk and Darkinjung communities, European settlers soon discovered the area shortly after settling in Botany Bay. Retaining the historic charm of a once thriving fishing and boat building community, the town holds undercover markets every weekend. Local Arts, Crafts and Galleries are also a popular feature in the community with the historic Cinema Paradiso cinema, a popular attraction in the area. The town’s shopping strip includes a variety of cafes, restaurants, home wares, fashion, hairdressing, 24/7 gym and massage therapists. Fine dining cuisines include Italian, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Turkish, Japanese, Mexican, Bistro 51 @ Ettalong Diggers and don’t forget the local pub. With over 40 cafes & restaurants within a 2km radius you will be spoilt for choice with dining options from cuisines all over the world While Ettalong Beach is a popular all year holiday destination, much of the population is made up of permanent residents. Take a walk along Ettalong’s shared walk and bike path along the Esplanade and you’ll soon notice the locals – they’re the ones who look relaxed!
Ettalong Village is bordered by two National Parks. The Bouddi National Park and Brisbane Water National Parks are just moments away and extend into the ocean creating fully protected land, shore and marine habitats. They contain a series of small secluded beaches making it ideal for bushwalking, picnics, lookouts, swimming, relaxation and privacy.
STAY A LITTLE OR STAY A WHILE If you visit Ettalong for a day trip or if you pack your bags for a weekend getaway you will want to return as you discover there is so much to see and do when visiting our Peninsula or how relaxing your stay can be even though we are on Sydney’s doorstep. Leave your car at home for a short ferry ride to Ettalong Wharf from Palm Beach or get aboard a regular train to the nearest station at Woy Woy, just 7 minutes away or drive the highway north from Sydney or south from Newcastle and your holiday can start in 90 minutes. Staying in Ettalong Beach accommodation gives you access to a picturesque coastal village and walking distance to family friendly, patrolled beaches at Umina and Ocean Beach.

The band performs ‘KICK’ from start to finish –honouring its revered tracks in true Chocolate Starfish style. As always, the band gives audiences what they know and love about a Chocolate Starfish show – pure, unadulterated entertainment, with performances imbued with intensity and revelry… and, as always, a few surprises.
Chocolate Starfish powered on to the Australian music scene in the early 1990s and quickly secured themselves a space as an influential force with their cover of Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’, original hit ‘Mountain’ and perennial favourite ‘Four Letter Word’. They wholeheartedly earned their reputation as one of Australia’s best live bands of the 90s, boasting two Top 10 albums and six Top 50 singles.

Australia’s leading jazz vocalist, Vince Jones, is also a remarkable interpreter and composer of songs in a contemporary jazz style – a style that appeals equally to listeners and his musical peers. As a vocalist he resists showing off technique to the detriment of feel – he’s confident in his musical literacy and sings like there’s nothing to prove. It’s a refreshing approach that gives us, the audience, the chance to be really moved. Vince
Jones also plays trumpet and over the years his style has developed a distinctive reserve and subtlety – he plays a little less and draws a good deal more from it than he did in earlier days. A brief, thoughtful solo from Vince is worth a hundred notes played with less discretion. Particular about the musical company he keeps, he continues to enjoy playing with the best jazz musicians the country has to offer. He is, quite simply, a national treasure.

CELEBRATING THE MUSIC THAT IS FOREVER TIMELESS STARRING VIC TREVINO JNR / JUSTIN SHANDOR / BEN THOMPSON The show begins with Vic Trevino Junior, who is returning to Australia for his fifth tour. Vic captures the audience with his raw rockabilly sound and feel combined with some of the best Elvis dance moves. Ben Thompson, winner of the 2018 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest, takes the role of Elvis in his movie years and the ‘68 comeback special. He effortlessly recreates him straight out of the army and into black leather, personifying this period with all the songs and sex appeal that was Elvis.
Since the passing of Elvis there has never been a tribute artist that has captivated the look, moves and sound, more than Justin Shandor. He is the only tribute artist to make the front page of USA Today, feature in Vogue Magazine and perform on The David Letterman Show. Justin transcends the Aloha From Hawaii concert with the voice and the shy but charming banter. Don’t miss the ultimate Elvis experience!
From Bing to Buble, Sinatra to Dean Martin, Pavarotti to Robbie Williams Shane Edwards and Dave Patten possess the vocals, stage presence, charisma and perfectly capture not only the wonderful music and comedy of the original legends, but also the remarkable personalities of the stars who rule the entertainment world.
