PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Members,

We have moved through the Winter months and are now happy to welcome Spring with enjoyable weather and more opportunities to venture out and enjoy the many activities that are available at your three Workers Clubs. These include great shows, raffles and Sporting Body events, where you can either participate or be a spectator.

We are always trying to come up with new ideas to help you get out and fill your leisure time with family and friends. Make sure that you check out the journal pages and keep up to date with our events, so you do not miss out on anything.

We have a very good choice of sporting groups and social groups that you can join if you feel you would like to add more interests to your life and make some new friends.

Things are changing in Clubland with new rules and Government regulations but nothing we can’t handle, and all Registered Clubs will have to work with this.

I am very proud of what our Club does to help the community and the help we offer to assist people in hard times.

We are receiving very good feedback with our work with the Diabetes program which affects so many people. It is with the support of our Members, Directors, Management, and Staff working together as a team that helps us do what we do.

Thank you everyone for being part of the Workers Team.

We haven’t forgotten our Managers and Staff who are working tirelessly to come up with new ideas, promotions, and entertainment for you to enjoy.

The Spring issue of Talk of the Town will include information and events happening all the way up to New Year’s eve, the reason I mention this is to give you plenty of time to check for events that could interest you and that you would like to attend.

These special events include:

• Oktoberfest

• Melbourne Cup

• Halloween

• School Holiday Events

• Club Birthday

• Seniors Xmas Party

• Kids Xmas Party

• Directors Thank You Draws

• New Years Eve Celebrations

• Great Shows in Diamond Showroom

WORKERS LIFESTYLE GROUP 4

We all have had a lot to handle, not only with Covid but Winter also delivered a very bad strain of Influenza which has been hard on so many families. I hope the Spring weather helps ease some of this.

On behalf of the Board of Directors I convey our sympathy to anyone who lost loved ones or friends since my last report. It is hard to deal with any loss. Our heart goes out to all concerned.

If anyone needs assistance, please contact our Welfare Officer Harold Becker or Tina Maamari who always do their very best to assist and help you. Thank you both for being such caring people.

Congratulations to all our members who reached the 25-year membership level. We celebrated this Quarter Century achievement at the Club on Saturday 12th August. We now have 5,503 Quarter Century Members, with 432 new members this year.

The next milestone is the VIP members. Currently we have 748 VIP members including 151 for this year. Harold & Tina hand delivered most of our new local VIP members their new membership card and pin. Out of the area members received a mail delivery.

These VIP Members have been members for over 50 years. Congratulations, this is an amazing achievement, and we are all so proud of you and your contribution to our Club. I know you all would have great stories recalling the changes and development of the “Workers” over the past 50 years.

Take care and be kind to each other.

CEO’S REPORT

Hello Members,

Welcome to the Spring issue of Talk of the Town.

Thankfully we are now on the other side of Winter and looking ahead to longer, warmer days. We have planned many events for you to enjoy time with family & friends in our three Clubs.

We know that times have become tough for many in our community with the Reserve Bank increasing official cash rates 12 times in the past 15 months with flow on effects to mortgage rates that drill into the heart of savings and weekly household budgets of many.

Be assured that the Workers Lifestyle Group have seen similar changes in the past and know the way forward is by making change mindfully and proactively, knowing that we are resourceful and financially well placed to ‘roll with the punches’ as we navigate through the current economic climate.

With this in mind, we continue to update our menu items across the three venues with Blue Gum, Eucalyptus Dining, Mango Tango Thai, and Hub Dining, as we all do our best to work with the ever-increasing costs of living, particularly here in heartland Western Sydney.

This means that we will always try and provide great value food & beverage offerings to suit a variety of budgets.

Our Level One food offers in Eucalyptus and Mango Tango Thai remain popular and we appreciate that Members enjoy a variety of food and locations, so very soon we will announce the reopening of our Hi lights restaurant located up on Level 5 for a Friday and Saturday evening set menu offer.

For Members our new major promo is an MG4 Excite 51 Electric Car packed with an amazing range of driver and safety technology and terrific driving range. Accompanying the vehicle as part of the major prize will be three months of free charging in the Workers Blacktown Car Park in one of our four new EV Charge stations.

Oktoberfest is back at Workers Hubertus this year as part of our annual cultural celebrations and we’re looking forward to welcoming back a large crowd for this two-day family event.

Melbourne Cup Day events make a return on the calendar this year and we will make the most of our venues for you all to have a great day and enjoy ‘The race that stops a nation’.

The 2023 Kids Christmas Party moves to its new home at The Blacktown Showground on Sunday 3rd December, with more information about tickets for Members to be available and communicated shortly from our Marketing team.

In community our fight against Diabetes moves forward with our ability to be a touch point for testing and health advice continues with our partnership with the Western Sydney Diabetes Alliance. Just recently, we acknowledged the 500th person to undertake an HbA1c diabetes detection test in the club, creating a milestone for our first testing program. We thank everyone who took part in this with us.

WORKERS LIFESTYLE GROUP 6

I encourage you all to check out our latest entertainment offering, Slice Virtual Golf, located on Level one at Workers Blacktown. You don’t need to be a pro to play, it is a fun and interactive game for the family or a group of friends. See our website for special offers and opening times.

I take this opportunity to thank our Staff and Management Team for their continued commitment to providing you, our members with a club that is safe and exciting. Their continued commitment and hard work ensure that our venue doors open each day.

I am proud of them all and encourage you to thank them similarly for their customer service and commitment as you, interact with them each time you visit with us. After all, we’re all in this Club and Community together.

Lastly, I pass on my condolences to those Members who have lost loved ones. Please take care of yourselves and of each other and reach out to your Welfare Team if needed.

Your club is here to support you.

I look forward to seeing you around our Clubs.

Sincerely

AND CO

WINTER SLEEP OUT 2023

"We raised over $57,000"

Workers Lifestyle Group’s CEO & Co Winter Sleep out in June raised almost $57,000 (a record!) for the wonderful volunteer charity Carevan Blacktown. That’s double the charity’s current annual operating costs and will allow Carevan to open a second location to serve meals, support – and hope – to local people fallen on hard times.

“Carevan is about the Blacktown community taking care of its own,” said Workers Lifestyle Group CEO Morgan Stewart. “Our directors and staff were among the 40-plus people sleeping out at the Workers Sports grounds on June 22 and we directly donated $10,000 to the appeal.”

Attendees included NSW Member for Blacktown and Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Public Spaces Stephen Bali MP, Chief Inspector (and Blacktown City councillor) Bob Fitzgerald AOM, Carevan volunteers, Workers Lifestyle Group president Kay Kelly and members of the Board of Directors, Morgan and a big contingent of the Workers team.

Western Sydney Diabetes Week

Workers Lifestyle Group has been funding a diabetes detection program at our Workers Blacktown for the last few months with the aim of testing 500 members and guests.

This has been achieved through a collaboration with Western Sydney Diabetes and Novo Nordisk called Western Sydney Changing Diabetes.

We were very proud the Club received recognition for this initiative and won the Health category of the ClubsNSW Clubs and Community Awards with this work. The program also featured on Channel Nine news and the Daily Telegraph.

We have had the team from Western Sydney Diabetes, based at Blacktown Hospital, working regularly at the Club and are pleased to announce that during National Diabetes Week 2023, we reached our testing goal. Our results will be revealed soon.

The good news is that there is a lot that you can do if you know your diabetes score and everyone who took part in the detection received specific information on both diabetes and also a range of activities that they could do to improve their health.

Feedback from those who participated in the program reveal they found it very worthwhile and prompted them to improve something healthy in their life.

If you haven’t returned your survey, don’t forget to let us know how you found the experience.

One of the lifestyle choices launched during National Diabetes Week was the free line dancing classes for Club members, taught by the very popular Josh Talbot from JB Talbot Line Dancers.

The classes are a lot of fun and everyone is improving their fitness at the same time. They are held every Wednesday afternoon in the Diamond Showroom at 2.30pm.

Our healthy cooking demonstrations run by Western Sydney Diabetes continue to be a huge success. These are run by a nutritionist who gives lots of healthy tips and tricks while she prepares delicious, nutritious and quick meals the whole family will enjoy. During the classes, gain ideas on how you can improve your diet, ask questions and take home the recipes to try yourself. These are run in the Mango Tango Thai restaurant on the last Thursday of each month at 11am.

Anyone can access the excellent educational resources available from Western Sydney Diabetes, including the Healthy Living Options: Recipe Book and Healthy Living Options: Out and About Directory, and 100 short educational videos on their website: www.westernsydneydiabetes.com.au/resources

Hello Members,

Looking after the welfare of our club members is important to us, not only because it is our role to do so but because we care. If you need to chat or are unwell, please reach out to Harold and I and we will be there for you. If you know of a club member who is ill or can do with a friendly visit, please contact us on 9830 0600 and leave your details with our Members Services team.

When attending our late members funerals, the same message is echoed and that is; connect constantly with your loved ones and tell them that you love them. Share happy memories and make new memories as often as you can, as later may be too late. Forgive easily and move on, rather than regret later.

On another note, there are many not-for-profit organisations that meet in the club which are always happy to welcome new members. If you are wanting to join a friendly group to volunteer or socialise or if you need support in looking after a loved one with dementia or they have had a stroke, please reach out and contact the relevant person listed below.

We would like to wish all dads a Happy Father’s Day and hope you get spoilt.

To all our members and their families that are not well, we wish you all a speedy recovery.

On behalf of the Club President, Board of Directors, Management and Staff, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the club members listed below who have passed away recently.

Take care and stay safe,
