WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) 1.Ther three elematry types of developable surfaces are cylinders, cones and tagent surfaces. 2.Cylinder is formed by a series of parrallel lines following a “S” curve 3.The shape of a cone is defined by all vertical lines from the base meeting at a central vertex to make a pryamid which can the be smoothed 4.Tagents connect tagent lines to a curve to form shaoes

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) 1. It is central in the comprehension of architectural geometry as if it forms the basis of all 3D and projected shapes and it allows architects to construct large scale prototypes from smaller developable surfaces that are buildable. 2.The “Huyghe + Le Corbusier Puppet Theatre“,the acturalisation of the organic form envisioned by Pierre Huyghe was made posiible by the use of architectural geometry.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) 1.Digital fabrication is a process that change “design“ to “production” with the use of 3D modeling software. It allows plenty of designs and patterns which are hard to be made by hand can now be produced.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) 1.At first folfing can show diffferent surfaces and it can expresses natural form that enables spaces to be created. 2.Besides, folfing can help to creat large scalled products based on small particles.
