Photographs from a burned album. Sudegusio albumo nuotraukos.
An album of more than 60 photographs, taken by Hungarian photographer Antal (Anton) Rohrbach during his stay in Kaunas in autumn 1861, was destroyed by the Great Oakland Fire in 1991. It was a huge loss for the mankind in general and for the Lithuanian history of photography in particular. Fortunately, an owner of the album used to make slides of items which came into his possession. The article describes a story with a happy end of search for these slides. Furthermore, the article describes the content of the album and relation of the discovered photographs to previously know ones.
