He epitomized the farmer Paul Harvey describes in his popular piece, So God Made A Farmer. He was the one who took care of young, loved his children, worked hard, and served his community. He owned his own business, raised his kids on a farm doling out plenty of responsibility and taught them to stand up for their beliefs. In my eyes, he knew everything. He knew real estate, tractors, and soil heath. He was a businessman, a pilot and a hero paratrooper MELISSA HART in the Korean War. He was my dad. When he didn’t order seed to plant at age 88, I knew the end was near. His health was failing, and his body was worn out. When we found out he had kidney failure, I told God I would not be able to sit by his bed and watch him pass. Knowing the writer of the family would be the one expected to write it, I told God there was no way I was going to write my dad’s obituary. I wouldn’t sing at his funeral. I wouldn’t gather the photos for the PowerPoint. I was positive all of those tasks were impossible for me. But God knew differently. His last days were spent in a hospital bed in the family room of our childhood farmhouse surrounded by family. I sat at his bedside, held his hand, and sang to him. At night my siblings and I reminisced, laughed and dozed in chairs, wanting to make sure we were then when he took his last breath. And when his flag covered coffin was carried out the front door, I opened up my laptop and began to write his obituary. All those things I said I couldn’t do, turned into cherished memories after his death on March 7, 2020. Just when you think you can’t do something, God turns the impossible into reality. You may be confident in your inability, but don’t be so sure of yourself. Whatever impossibility you’re facing, give it some room, allow time to ruminate and then move forward. You may find yourself on the other side of possible.

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays and was able to spend them with family and friends. With the new year comes New Year resolutions. My New Year resolution is to make sure not to take things for granted. Things like our cows, family, friends, and each other. Cows, Caitlyn VanDeusen specifically Holstein cows are what keeps us all together. Our families are what help us grow and they support us throughout all of life’s changes. Our friends who are always there for us when we need them. Finally, we need to be grateful for each other because we are so lucky to be surrounded by people who have similar values, goals, and dreams. After reading this I hope that you don’t take these things for granted. Along with the new year comes one of my favorite things, convention. Convention is a great place to meet new people and connect with those that you haven’t seen in a while. Good luck to everyone competing in contests and congratulations to everyone who has earned awards. I hope that you all have a great beginning to 2022!

Executive Manager’s

Report

Happy New Year to you and yours! This time last year, I set several goals for the association and myself. Part of each New Year is looking back over the past year to see all that was accomplished and areas that could be improved upon. I also think it is important to set new goals. CHELSEA HANSELMAN

JUNIORS

I made it a goal to attend at least one event in every county. While I wasn’t able to get to as many events as I wanted, I was grateful clubs were able to provide in-person events for their members. The association was able to host in-person contests for the Juniors in Corning so that New York could be represented at National Convention (and did I mention, New York WON the Junior division for Dairy Bowl?). Although 2021 presented some of the same barriers we faced in 2020, the association advanced and made as many events as possible for our members. The summer picnic was well-attended and a wonderful time for all to relax; Spring Carousel and State Show had tremendous quality cattle exhibited; and our Junior Executive Committee has met in-person throughout the year, to plan and discuss how to strengthen the Junior association. For 2022 the plan is to make all those events happen again and to focus heavily on the Junior association and its involvement, as well as how to strengthen the DJM program.

CAROUSEL

My goal was to make Carousel happen, and we did! Although the numbers of cattle and exhibitors were not what they had been in recent years, the feedback from those who attended was positive and everyone loved the new location. We will be returning to Hamburg again this year from March 30-April 4 (check out page 5 for the full schedule), and I hope those who weren’t able to attend last year are able to this year. and, speaking of shows, mark your calendars for our State Show we will be returning to Greenwich, N.Y., again this year from Sept. 7-11.

SALES

We had a successful year in sales. Not only did we generate revenue for the association, we offered a lot of great cattle, embryos and IVF sessions from New York to others all over the country. We will start 2022 with an ET sale at the NY Holstein convention on Jan. 14. There will be something for everyone, so don’t miss this sale! 10 - NYN January-February 2022

THE NEWS

Our goal for 2021 was to put more energy into both the printed News and our online pages so members had something worthwhile to read. Based on the feedback received, I think this is something we at the association need to continue to focus on in 2022. This year we will be offering 6 issues of the News: January, March, May, July, September and November. We will also be offering more transparent advertising rates and you can expect Melissa to spend more face-toface time with our members. We have listened to what our members said, and I hope you are all happy with the upcoming changes and will consider advertising in 2022!

SELF-CARE

How did you all do with regularly doing something for yourself? I reminded everyone of this concept about halfway through the year, hoping you would remember to focus on you. For 2022 I will challenge everyone again to try to regularly do something for yourself. I feel like so many of the members I encounter are selfless people and are constantly doing for others. Because of this you forget about yourselves - but as you know, you can’t help others if you aren’t taking care of yourself first. And remember, self-care can be something small … like taking 10 minutes to sit and drink your coffee instead of running out the door with it in hand.

APPRECIATION

It is important to let others know they are appreciated and valued. There are so many who volunteer their time to help make this association what it is today, and I hope you all know how valued you are! Thank you again to everyone who helped in 2021 - I wouldn’t have been able to do half of what I did without you. Also, if you would like to get involved somehow with the association, do not hesitate to reach out to me. 2022 is full of exciting events and I would love to have your help. Happy New Year, and I hope you stay warm and healthy! – Chelsea

From The NYHA President By Jason Pullis

Hello, fellow breeders. I hope the fall harvest and the holiday seasons went well at your operations. We have reached January at last - and with that comes my final column as your New York Holstein President. I started my term with high hopes and a long list of things I wanted to accomplish. I had great ideas of traveling the state, visiting with members, promoting the great Holstein cow and leaving my mark as a leader who got a lot of good things done while in office. Instead, I got stuck in a pandemic, cancelled our Spring Carousel for 2020, hired a new Executive Manager, helped create a new state show, moved the Spring Carousel in 2021, learned how to meet with members and committees by a new thing called “Zoom,” met new members and reconnected with old ones. Could I have done a better job doing my job? Absolutely. Could I have been a better communicator with staff, members and our Executive Committee? Absolutely. Was every decision I helped make the right one? Doubtful. Did members reach out and share their opinions on some of the decisions we made? They sure did. Do I regret serving on the Executive Committee for six years? Not in the least. I’m glad I had the opportunity to serve this association in this capacity. To me, Registered Holsteins are life. They are the reason I cross the road every morning and work all day, trying to breed a better herd. I love the Holstein and I love the people who make up this industry. Some of those people might make life a little more complicated at times, but that just goes with the territory. I can’t finish my term without thanking a handful of people for their support. The association staff that I have worked with over the years - including Patsy, Kelly, Chelsea, Jennifer, Stacie, Mike and Melissa - have been great to work with, and I want to thank them for their patience and understanding that in my office, things don’t always get done in the timeliest of ways. To all of the Executive Committee members I have worked with - your guidance and thoughtful approach to discussions and decisions is always appreciated. Our current committee is an extremely talented and diverse group who bring a lot of experience to the boardroom table. To my brother Luke and our right-hand man, Shawn Miller, thank you for doing more when a phone call or a meeting took priority. And to my wife Holly and sons Maxwell and Owen, thank you being there with your never-ending support. As I conclude, I would like to leave our members

with a few thoughts that will help ensure the success of our organization moving forward: #1 - Believe in this magazine. I say all the time that print advertising is not dead, even in today’s digital world. We’re all trying to pinch pennies, but clear, concise, regular advertising can pay dividends. #2 - Support your local clubs. I get it, everyone is busy, but spending a Saturday afternoon at a winter barn meeting or a Friday night at a club dinner can go a long way toward building a strong local network. There isn’t much that a little face-to-face socialization can’t solve. #3 - Invest in our Junior members. Not just financially - take the time to work with our young ones as a Dairy Bowl or judging coach. Help them with their DJM books. Don’t be afraid to take the neighbor kid to a show with you - it just might be the opportunity they were waiting for. If nothing else, just talk to them! #4 - Be one of the reasons this organization survives and thrives. Criticism and negative talk have their spots, but if you want to make a real difference, be the difference. Thank you, friends. I’ll be seeing you down the road.

HEADWATER HOLSTEINS:

Making It Work By Melissa Hart

everyone says we should do. Others get bigger and we are getting smaller,” Lorelle explained. “Yeah, we do everything wrong,” Eric joked.

We Like Good Cows Nestled in the hills of northern New York, the Shermans are surrounded by several farms and necessary infrastructure for dairy producers. On Nov. 1, 1999, on a rented farm in Delaware County, two twentysomething Holstein enthusiasts embarked on a farming endeavor that has turned into a family operation, producing 80 homebred Excellent cows with five at EX-94. Eric and Lorelle Sherman are familiar members of the New York Holstein Fraternity, and today Headwater Holsteins is situated in the rolling hills of Lewis County surrounded by like-minded producers and an infrastructure to support their passion. Seventeen years ago they moved three hours north and away from family. “We are in the snow and all alone,” Eric said, chuckling. One of the biggest reasons they moved to Lewis County was the number of farms that are 100 cows or fewer - the infrastructure supports dairy farming. They belong to the Lowville Producers Dairy Co-op, which is just a few miles from the farm. Tending approximately 260 acres, they made several improvements to the old tie-stall barn. “We had to improve all of it. It was a lot of jackhammering,” Eric recalled. “We put in a new gutter cleaner, bulk tank and stalls, we did a lot of work to this barn.” While they like the improvements they’ve made, it still takes time to feed the cows. “We just run around the barn all day. We just get done with one lap, we start another.” The barn was built with more than 70 stalls, but now they are down to 63. “We keep losing stalls because every time we jackhammer, we lose two stalls to make the stalls bigger, so we are doing the opposite of what 14 - NYN January-February 2022

In making breeding decisions, he says they are just farmers who like good cows. “You breed one good one, then you want to breed 10 more good ones,” he explained. “Eric likes pedigrees, he likes the learning, the history of the Holstein breed. It’s not a hobby for Eric, it’s a passion in life.” Lorelle added, “He wants to have a nice high-scoring herd of cows, he wants to be in the Holstein Fraternity; he loves talking about nice cows, he loves looking at nice cows, he likes to visit other farms and look at their cows and he helps young people with getting started with their own herd.” Mentoring young people comes by way of 4-H and county involvement. “When we go to our county show we always take an army of kids with us - and they don’t belong to us,” Eric noted with a laugh.

The Shermans had to jackhammer a lot of cement to custom fit the stalls for their cows when they moved to their farm in Lewis County.

They host judging clinics in the spring for local youth as well. The Shermans show at the local and state levels and are involved with their Holstein county club. “We are a close-knit county and we got away from hosting speakers at our annual meetings. So now we have our meal and our meeting and then we just sit around and chew the fat because we don’t always have a chance to get together,” he said. Raising a small herd with no outside income is not the norm in today’s dairy industry. But Eric attributes their sustainability on the farm to no hired help and teamwork. He noted, “Lorelle can do anything I can do and is willing, and that’s big.” He also attributes part of their success to having all their farm ground nearby and not having to travel for planting and harvesting, in addition to having the aid of their three kids, Ethan, Carl and Ella. “As the kids got older, they turned into great help; it wasn’t the case when they were all in diapers, though,” he laughed. They also try to keep their machinery costs as low as they can, without being backwards about it. “We obviously have to get our work done, but we don’t get carried away buying new paint,” he added. Managing feed costs is another component to their sustainability. “We don’t have a huge herd average. We try to avoid the feed scoop as much as possible.” They feed 15 pounds of a protein mix, some high-moisture corn, corn silage, baleage, haylage and a lot of dry hay. They raise all their forages and corn. Lorelle pointed out, “We don’t want to pay for our milk, we want the milk to pay the bills. It’s important to keep it in balance.”

What’s in the tank? Herd goals at Headwater Holsteins are cows that last, good pedigrees and to breed a better cow from one generation to the next. Eric believes the maternal line of the bull means a lot. “Genomics are great, but it has to make sense. Some of the information on the proofs just doesn’t add up, and if I feel that way, I won’t use a bull. The pedigree still matters.” The sire selection at Headwater Holsteins includes Stantons Chief, Unix, Delta Lambda and Summerfest. They used Summerfest early because he was on sale and they ended up really liking his calves. Eric said they are milking six Tattoo daughters and he thinks they are

The calves are happy in their hutches at Headwater Holsteins.

milkier than expected and clean-boned. “If you use (Summerfest)on a wide-muzzle, widechested cow with a little heavier bone, he can do you some good,” he noted. They have two Tattoo daughters that were fresh last fall and went VG-86, and Eric is quite happy with them so far. They also had a Crush that went EX-91 with her second calf - she’s from the Talent Barbara family, and a nice young cow. Headwater Atwood Luna-ET is EX-94 at nine years old. Out of all her calves, she had one heifer and she’s a King Doc that is due in March. In addition they have four Delta Lambda IVF pregnancies out of Luna due in March. Luna’s pedigree includes an EX-92 4E Linjet x EX-91 Dairy x EX-91 cow out of a homebred bull x VG Stardust x EX-93 Sir Christopher. Headwater Fever Johanna just went EX-94, and she has a Select yearling. Johanna is out of an EX-93 3E Aftershock that has more than 250,000 pounds of milk lifetime and is still in the herd. Maplegrand Paxton Pagen is another EX-94 cow the Shermans purchased at a sale, over the phone. She is sired by a homebred bull and has turned out to be a great cow. She is due anytime to Unstopabull. The Sherman children have been instrumental in making the farm run smoothly. Ethan is now in Georgia working for a large dairy, while Carl and Ella are still at home. Future plans at Headwater Holsteins include breeding more great cows. While Eric wants to farm until he leaves this earth, Lorelle would like a retirement date, but their common goal is to live on the farm - debt-free.

JOAN F. FEAGLES Joan F. Feagles, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2021, at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 28, 1938 in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of the late John H. and Mary G. (Anderson) Free. Joan was a 1956 graduate of Bethlehem Central School in Delmar, NY and furthered her education at SUNY Cortland, earning her degree in education. She was united in marriage to Robert Feagles on August 4, 1962 in Warwick, NY. Robert and Joan moved their family and farm to Kennedy Road, St. Johnsville, in 1972. Although she did not come from a farm background, when she married her dairy farmer husband 59 years ago, Joan took on a love for the farm, and all that comes with it, including the animals, and the landscaping and gardening projects. While raising her family and working on the farm, Joan was also a Kindergarten teacher in the St. Johnsville Central School District until 1994, where she would encourage agricultural education, especially dairy promotion, into the curriculum and school activities. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Robert (Bob) Feagles, Sr.; two daughters, Gail Good of Altoona, PA,, and Judy Littrell of St. Johnsville; two sons; Robert (Bob) Feagles, Jr., and David Feagles (Jennifer) of St. Johnsville; and her beloved grandchildren, Andrew (Jamie), Clara and Vincent Good, Aryn, Jacob, Jonathan, Adam and Owen Feagles, and Laura, Benjamin and Carolyn Littrell. She was pre-deceased by her parents, and sisters-inlaws Elizabeth Brown and Ruth Durland. Joan was a 4-H leader for many years, she served on the Montgomery County 4-H Program Committee, Cornell Cooperative Extension Board of Directors, and served over 30 years on the Montgomery County Dairy Promotion Committee. Joan was a Director of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society (Fonda Fair) from 1995 to 2021. She also served on the NYS Dairy of Distinction Board. Joan has always been known for her love of the farm, the cows, flowers, gardening and keeping an attractive farmstead. Her greatest joys were vacationing in Naples, FL, family gatherings, the Fonda Fair and being a part of her grandchildren’s lives and their activities, especially attending cow shows with her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Joan Feagles Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o NBT Bank at 16 West Main St. St. Johnsville, or any NBT Branch.

DONALD P. MCNEIL Donald P. McNeil, 69, of Ellenburg Center passed away, December 18, 2021. He was born in Plattsburgh on August 4, 1952, son of Glenn and Evelyn (Frennier) McNeil. Don graduated from the Ellenburg Central School and later

from Clinton Community College where he received his degree in Accounting. Don married Sherry Magoon on August 21, 1982. They worked side by side operating Don-Sher Farm, the family business, where they happily welcomed their three children and three grandchildren. Don was a member of the Ayrshire Breeders Association, the NY Holstein Association, and served on the Resolutions Committee for Agri-Mark for many years. Everyone who had the pleasure to know Don, knew how much he loved his family and his cows. He loved to go to sales, catch up with lifelong friends that shared his love of the Ayrshire and Holstein breeds, comparing notes on all the good cows and, more often than not, purchasing one, even though his loving wife said “No”. Over the last 40 years, “fair week” was always a huge part of his life. The entire family worked hard all year long to be able to go on their “vacation” and show off their animals. He enjoyed seeing old friends and scoping out the competition. As the years went by, Papa and Mimi always loved to be ringside to watch their kids and grandkids show and especially to watch their passion grow. Don loved to play cards, enjoyed a hot roll out of the oven, watching westerns and watching any sporting event, but what he enjoyed most was to watch his daughters’ playing basketball with their teams over the years.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 39 years, Sherry (Magoon) McNeil; his children, Glenn E. McNeil, Jenna (Mike) Legault, and Danielle McNeil (Eric Brior); grandchildren, Logan Russel, Grayson Legault and Alli Brior; siblings, Richard “Porky” (Helen) McNeil, Dave (Linda) McNeil, Jim (Diana) McNeil, Pat (Joann) McNeil, and Jeff (Peggy) McNeil; and several nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his parents. From all of us, we won’t say “Whatever”, but “Talk to you later!”

Personal View: Something unique about me that sets me apart from other youth applying to be honored as the Distinguished Junior Member is that I run my own AGvocate page. Through DairyDilemmaTruths, I inform consumers about how farmers care for their animals and their land in order to create an affordable and very nutritious product. I first started DairyDilemmaTruths back in January of 2017. I was a 13-year-old girl with big dreams of making change for an industry that means so much to me, but I was not as successful as I had hoped I would be until this past year. Being a 13-year-old girl in middle school filled with non-farm kids, I chose to keep my identity hidden on this account. I wanted to make a change without people knowing who I was. I was afraid of being bullied more than I already was for loving cows and enjoying the farm life, so I kept anonymous until September 2019. I finally realized that the only way to relay a message to an audience and create an impact on them is to be yourself. It sounds cliché but the passion I have for this industry is the most powerful tool I have. The consumers want to know their farmers and letting them know who you are is the only way to do that. Since I’ve made this decision, DairyDilemmaTruths has grown tremendously in a year, in September 2019 I started with about 60 follows, and over the past year, I have reached out thirteen hundred follows. It has been an amazing journey, and my friends and family have been very supportive and have encouraged me to keep doing what I love. I am so excited to continue working for America’s dairy farmers and telling my story to create a difference for our industry because I know now that the most impactful way of delivering a message is through your passionate voice as an individual.

22 - NYN January-February 2022

Personal View: There are many qualities that set me apart from other youth applying for the Distinguished Junior Member contest. Some of my best qualities that set me apart from others are my enjoyment of learning new things, my communication skills, and my drive and determination. Unlike some, I like and enjoy learning new things, and I am willing to learn something new. As an example, I am currently learning how to do cheerleading which I have never done before. Though it is challenging for me, it is also pretty exciting to do and a good experience. Also, beginning December 5th I am going to be learning how to artificially inseminate cows and heifers through my 4-H Dairy Club. I also work well and communicate well with others as is shown by being selected to be a class officer and a Student Council officer. Also, in my role as FFA Chapter President, I am required to run meetings, errands and talk to school staff. Working with other people will help me form new friendships and meet new people that will help me drive towards my future. I have a strong work ethic as well which helps me be more responsible. I am also a very determined person, once I put my mind to something I am going to do it. An example of my determination is when my showmanship heifer calved out and injured her shoulder. My Papa gave me options of selling her or taking over all of her care which included milking her twice daily, bringing food down from the milking barn to the sick cow pen every day, bedding her and removing old feed daily, and cleaning and caring for her abscess. I spent almost 2 months over my summer break caring for her until she was well enough to return to the robot barn. My determination to get her better was the reason that I was allowed to keep her. These characteristics are what I believe set me apart from other applications.

Natalie Fredericks Age: 17-years old Parents: Chris and Jessica Fredericks Club: OHM School: Little Falls High School, Class of 2022 Personal View: What sets me apart from other youth applying for the Distinguished Junior member contest is my dedication, commitment, and perseverance. I am not just a dedicated farm hand but also a dedicated dairy promoter. This includes but is not limited to being the 2021-2022 Herkimer County Dairy Princess as well as a prominent dairy showman. As a dairy princess you help educate consumers, get your message out as well as represent the hard-working dairy farmers that have made this program so beneficial for us. I have developed team leadership, commitment, and perseverance through my years of showing. Team leadership while helping younger kids, show, wash, clip, fit and even tie a simple slip knot with their calf’s rope halter. Details matter.

Commitment while working with and caring for my animals all year young, making sure that they will be ready for show reason. I am responsible for their lives and well-being, so I know that I must give them proper care each day. Perseverance is the biggest thing that showing has taught me, you may not always gets always get the results you want but you must be willing to put in the effort to enter the next show better and stronger. Farming isn’t the only thing that I have enjoyed over my childhood, I attend the Herkimer BOCES Cosmetology program, this has taught me how to set myself aside from others. I have dedicated myself to my future while keeping farming and promoting the dairy industry in my life. Cosmetology has taught me to be a great leader, along with that is SKILLS USA which is a leadership program for students in trade schools. All that I have learned from the Junior Holstein Association has helped me with Skills leadership. As well as SKILLS USA helping me know my exact message when interviewing and finding my inner self confidence.

That Honey Cow By Fred Myers

After I left Dreamstreet Holsteins in 1985, I sold semen and analyzed cattle in New York and Pennsylvania. I found some great registered Holstein cattle for breeders and they went on to score 93-94 points. One of my favorites was Upsland-A Mario Honey. I found her in a herd in Herkimer County. Money was tight in the farming industry, but because I owned my own business, I was able to adjust semen prices, and my fees for analyzing cows. In this barn, the cows were very close together. After they calved as a two-year-old, they never let them outside until they took them out for beef or they died. I saw a two-year-old so big that she was standing in the gutter. She had a small udder and was quite thin. I could always close my eyes and see what a cow could look like. I asked, “That was your son’s heifer from last fall?” And the farmer said, “Yes.” I said she was a little too big for his barn and he agreed. I asked if his son would sell her for $3,000 and he said he probably would. I knew his son wanted to go to college and was short of money, so my plan was to show her, do well and then sell her for a profit. I told him that when I sold her, I would give his son half the money to put towards college. I returned the next day with the contract. I took her to Ed Poole’s farm in Courtland County because I knew he was the best person to get the cow going in the right way. The next day Ed was scoring the cows and I told him to put her next to the biggest cow he had and don’t clip her. The classifier asked me where I found her. I told him in the mountains, and he said, “If you get her right, you’ll have a lot of fun with her.” Ed got her clipped, wormed, and feet trimmed. He got her milking heavy and got her udder stretched out. I will always be thankful for Ed and what he had done with ‘Honey.’ We took her to the spring show but she wasn’t quite ready and finished third. She was Reserve

Grand Champion at Courtland, was first at the Central New York Holstein Show and was second at the New York State Fair. Mike Heath saw her in the CNY show and asked me if I wanted to sell her. We sold her to the LaFoster Farm in North Carolina for $19,000. When I gave the man’s son his half of the check and said, “Now you can go to college,” and it was one of the greatest feelings in my life. ‘Honey’s’ first calf was a red bull named ‘Harry,’ and he was still at the farm. I bought him and had semen drawn at Dependabull and sold several hundred units. ‘Harry’ had many excellent daughters. He didn’t have any index numbers and couldn’t get in any bull stud. However, he was number one in the Red Book for feet and legs, three times. Fosters flushed ‘Honey’ many times with several bulls including Red & White bulls as she carried the red factor. She was one of Foster’s best brood cows with excellent daughters in the herd. LA-Foster Sovereign Haley (EX-92) out of Honey is proven to be even better than her mother. She has a record of 53,450M 2129F 1708P, and the Fosters consider her to be one of the best cows they’ve every bred. I will never forget ‘Honey.’

New Year, Renewed Passion Happy New Year to all our Holstein friends near and far! We wish you health, prosperity, and all good things in 2022. As we embark on a new year, we would like to update you on what has been happening at Woodcrest Dairy. With 3400 cows milking, the herd has never looked nor performed better. Our latest classification yielded 55 Excellents (to 94 points) and 835 Very Good. The pens are full of deep-pedigreed, highperforming young cows with bright futures. Picking the best bulls for GTPI, Fat & Protein yield, and DPR has resulted in several high genomic calves and heifers to +2984 GTPI and 180 CFP. Another 85 head are over 2800 GTPI. We are IVF’ing 15 females every two weeks at our in-house facility with 30 ET calves born monthly. We continue to hear stories from breeders around the world how much they appreciate the daughters of 7HO12266 Woodcrest Mogul YODER-ET and 250HO12961 Woodcrest KING DOC. Both bulls have numerous family members you will be hearing more about in the future. Our commitment to providing top genetics to the industry will be aided by our newlyformed Genetics Committee consisting of Earl DeLong, Beth Keene, Frank Putman, Mike McCaffrey, and Dr. Bob Cruikshank. As always, your interest and inquiries about Woodcrest genetics are most welcomed!

We were fortunate to hit the winner’s circle this summer at the NY State Show in the Futurity class with OCD Benefit Captain-ET VG-86 – first score. She has been a pleasure to raise and calve in and turned out exactly the way we hoped. Many thanks to Roedale for her excellent care. We hope to continue picking good cattle and seeing them develop. Stop by and see a few of Roedale’s special heifers and our own “Maiden-Kine!”
