The Surgeon Is ‘Growin’ and Goin’ Once Again

B

ike Surgeon is “growin’ and goin’ ” as they open their second location in the Metro East - a brand new boutique-size shop in Edwardsville with direct access to the trails in Madison County.

our product knowledge and passion for showing customers that we care. Combine all this along with our multiple group-ride opportunities and events throughout the year in what we call the 'Fun.' "

Making the long awaited step “up north,” Bike Surgeon is slated to open Bike Surgeon Outpost in late November. In a co-location with First to the Finish, they will be opening a 1,500-square-foot store within the new 15,000-square-foot First to the Finish building in Edwardsville. “We are excited to bring our fun-loving focus on customer service to the Madison County market," said Surgeon co-owner Jon Greenstreet. "That service combined with our experience in 'Fit, Fix and Fun' for all things bike has been wildly successful for us in the Shiloh/O’Fallon market; we anticipate the same response here in Edwardsville.”

Bike Surgeon carries some of the best bike brands in the industry, including Specialized, Cervelo, Colnago, Electra, Niner and Salsa, just another reason why so many customers love the Surgeon. “We focus on brands that offer a level of quality that we can stand behind. Over the years we have evaluated and stocked many products and brands that didn’t meet our expectations. We have moved away from those and invested further into products that we know work and provide a high level of value to our customers,” said Josh Manwaring, purchasing and operation manager for Bike Surgeon. “We see many products/brands on the market with what seems to be amazing prices ... but we know the value is just not there. Our customers know that when they buy something from us they are getting REAL value. Because of this, a significant majority of our customers are with us for the long term, not just looking to us for the cheapest thing out there. They get real honest advice, direction and products that provide them the best return on their investment, which comes down to a fun experience on their bike time after time.”

The Bike Surgeon Outpost/First to the Finish parking lot will be linked directly to the Madison County trails. “We are all super excited about this trail access ... it was one of the biggest things we were looking for in a new location; people can come in, grab some water, nutrition, chat and hit the trail,” he said. They also plan to offer their regionally famous 24-hour-turn-around scheduled services that dramatically limit a rider’s downtime just waiting for the shop to get to their repair. They will have multiple service technicians in house to handle the on-the-fly repairs that are turned out in minutes, not days. “Our wrench-turning skills are something we are very proud of and put continual investment into year round, both through ongoing training and tooling additions,”said Andy Gibbs, manager of the new Edwardsville location. Fit Services performed by Boulder Center for Medicine trained Fit Technicians will be offered at the Edwardsville location as well through scheduled appointments and provided as part of every bike purchase. “To be relevant in today’s very competitive landscape we have to be subject matter experts, not just have a huge selection of stuff,” Greenstreet added. “The internet offers a much larger selection than any local shop can provide and the pricing online can be very attractive, too. We choose to compete on our real differentiating factors: 'Fit, Fix and Fun.' We have a significant expertise in 'Fit' that gets riders comfortable on their bike, through a medically based approach that is unrivaled in the industry. Then, our unwavering focus on quality and timeliness in repairs - 'Fix' as we call it - and finally,

A new offering to the market - exclusively at the Bike Surgeon Outpost - is a full bike rental fleet. With options from most of their brands, they will have comfort bikes, hybrids, MTB’s and road bikes all available for daily or longer rentals. So, a rider can leave their bike at home and come experience the trails on some of the latest models the industry has to offer, and for daily rates starting under $25! Of course, the Shiloh store is still rockin'! They have one or two traditions that will not be carrying over to the Edwardsville store: one of those is the Black Friday Blowout so make sure to stop by Bike Surgeon in Shiloh for the crazy hurrah. “We have developed quite a tradition with Black Friday at the Shiloh location," said Gibbs. "So make sure to get by this year and check out our crazy deals! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for all the details of the entire Black Friday weekend.”

Bike Surgeon Shiloh is located in Shiloh at 3348 Green Mount Crossing, next to Target. Bike Surgeon Outpost will be located at 2341 Rt. 159 in Edwardsville. Call (618) 622-1693 or visit Bikesurgeon.com for more information.

Tennis Is The Glue That Binds The Brunner Family The game is very action oriented and provides a fantastic cardio workout.” In fact, there are drop-in drills and Cardio Tennis offered on most days of the week providing not only that good exercise, but these sessions also incorporate instruction as well.

N

aomi and Mark Brunner are living proof that “the family that plays together, stays together. “We have been a tennis family for many years,” said the Brunners, “and we encourage everyone to join us at St. Clair Tennis to discover the many ways tennis can benefit your family.” The Brunners have five kids themselves who all played tennis at different levels and now grandkids who are playing, including one who plays for Belleville West and one for O’Fallon HS. “Our mission is to grow the game because we believe in the value of the game for families and the community. Tennis can also help build self confidence,” Naomi Brunner said. “My role in the business is to help a player mentally as much as physically – don’t think about winning, think about being ‘my best.’” St. Clair Tennis is obviously a family-owned and operated tennis facility, and is located on Hartman Lane in O'Fallon. The Brunner family has owned the business since August, 2007. There are six indoor courts that are used by members and local high school and college teams such as McKendree University and Saint Louis University.

St. Clair provides leagues and lessons for all levels and there are few times during the week that one or both of the Brunners are not there making sure all scheduled activities are running efficiently. “Our goal is to provide an enjoyable experience to everyone who plays at our facility,” she said. Currently there are four pros plus assistants to help with the kids groups. “We love our senior groups, too, who play some tennis and then make it a social event every week – they have so much fun together.”

St. Clair has a demo program that allows the player a chance to “try out” different racquets before purchasing. “The equipment we carry here is very good quality because we know that good equipment does make a difference,” Mark Brunner said. “I think we do a nice job on racquet maintenance as well – very quick and efficient.” Membership at St. Clair Tennis allows you to participate or substitute in league play, to rent court-time and to participate in all drills, and lessons at the member rate. Christine Brewer

Highlights "A Masterworks Christmas" on December 11 Christine Brewer

G

rammy award-winning soprano and long-time Lebanon resident Christine Brewer will be the highlight of “A Masterworks Christmas” concert at 7:30 p.m. on December 11, St. Clare Church in O’Fallon. Brewer’s appearances in opera, concert and recital are marked by her own unique timbre, at once warm and brilliant, combined with a vibrant personality and emotional honesty reminiscent of the great sopranos of the past. Named one of the top 20 sopranos of all time (BBC Music), her range, golden tone, boundless power, and control make her a favorite of the stage and a highly soughtafter recording artist, one who is “in her prime and sounding glorious,” said Anthony Tommasini, of the New York Times. The soprano’s biography is extensive and has taken her around the world many times, but she is truly delighted to be home for the holidays joining the Masterworks Chorale for this very special evening. “This will be my first time to sing with Stephen Mager as conductor of the Masterworks Chorale,” she said. “I've really enjoyed looking at the pieces he has arranged for me to sing with the Chorale. He took a couple of my very favorite Christmas pieces and arranged them especially for me. One is ‘Go Tell It On The Mountain.’That was the very first piece I ever sang in public at the age of 3 so it has always had a special place in my heart. His arrangement of it is really beautiful!”

World-Renowned Soprano Is “Home For The Holidays”

Brahms Requiem with the chorale when I was about 8-1/2 months pregnant. The soprano soloist only sings one movement in the piece and it is very emotional and beautiful. I sang that movement and then sat down on stage near the cello section. Every time they played, the baby started jumping around! There were people in the first couple of rows who noticed and got a little tickled. So I think my daughter became a music lover at a very early age!” During these early years, the soprano also sang in the St. Louis Symphony Chorus as a soprano section leader and often understudied the solo parts and sometimes sang small parts in the concerts. She was also the soprano soloist at the Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton, Mo. and sang often with the Bach Society as well as the chorus of the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. “All of these experiences were so beneficial to me as I was starting my career,” Brewer said. Masterworks 2016-2017 Young Artist Rayna Campbell will have an opportunity to sing with Brewer during this concert. “I am so happy that Rayna and I will be able to sing a piece together,” Brewer said. “She will be singing the part of Mary and I will be singing the part of the Angel Gabriel. I tell young singers to take advantage of every

opportunity that is available for them. I encourage them to sing from their hearts the way they sang as children - to find what gives them JOY! And to look at every experience, even the ones where they may not have sung their best, as a learning experience. These experiences inform them as artists and as human beings.” Looking forward to the holidays, she said, “It is always nice for me to perform close to home, because so many of my friends and family can attend the concerts. I swim at the O'Fallon YMCA and have many friends there who will be coming to the performance!” Brewer still continues her work with the sixth graders at Marissa Elementary in a program called Opera-tunities, which is now in its 13th year. “Each year I am so impressed with the kids and their curiosity about music, and travel,” she said. “My mother used to say that we are meant to leave this world a little better than when we got here, and we need to brighten the corner where we are. That's what I try to do with this outreach program. It makes me very happy to do that!" For ticket information, call (618) 304-9094 and visit www.singmasterworks.org.

Reminiscing about the beginnings of her career she remembered calling Dr. A. Dennis Sparger, founder and then conductor of Masterworks, on the phone and simply asked if she could sing for him. “That was the beginning of a long-time friendship!” Brewer said. “He was willing to take a chance on hiring a young singer with very little experience. One of my fond memories was singing Marketplace Magazine | Holiday Issue 2016 | marketplacemagazineonline.com | 13

Third Christkindlmarkt Set To Open On Nov. 25 With Entertainment By Old Salt Union, Laser Show

The Belleville Christkindlmarkt Committee, under the Belleville Cultural Enrichment Organization, is excited to announce the third annual Christkindlmarkt: An authentic German Christmas Market set around the southeast and northeast corners of scenic Public Square daily from Nov. 25 through Dec. 23. After the huge success of the first and second Christkindlmarkt, Belleville's own "Christmas Carole" – Director Carole Piontkowsky – said, “This year we wanted to provide more free events so those visiting family and friends will be enticed to come downtown and see all that Belleville has to offer." In a nod to Belleville’s rich German heritage, the Christkindlmarkt features European vendors, German food such as cookies and cakes, and beverages like the traditional Gluhwein, which is a warm spiced wine served in a souvenir mug. Attendees this year will find the same number of vendors, yet, there will be many new vendors arriving on December 9 taking the place of some of the vendors from the first two weeks. Thus, visitors are encouraged to shop often to make sure they see everything. A different ornament vendor will be featured every weekend in the heated tent. Set on Belleville’s scenic Public Square, the market will be open daily from Nov. 25 through Dec. 23. Opening Day Festivities Will Include:

10 a.m. 1 p.m. 6 p.m. 6:15 to 9 p.m. 8:30 p.m.

Santa Parade Christkind Proclamation Tree Lighting Old Salt Union to play two sets with laser show toward the end First-ever Laser Light Show - 8:30 p.m. - accompanied by Mannheim Steamroller - there is limited VIP seating in the northwest quandrant of the square with food, drink and more

Live Reindeer: Nov. 26, 11 - 2 p.m.; Dec. 3, 1 - 4 p.m.; Dec. 9, 5 - 8 p.m.; Dec. 18, 10 - 1 p.m. Free horse drawn Trolley rides every Thursday - Sunday.

New this year is the Tournament of Trees: local businesses and organizations will decorate Christmas trees donated by Eckert's Country Store - stands donated by Home Depot - and visitors will vote on their favorite through Dec. 22. The winner will receive a $500 donation to their charity of choice and the decorated trees will then be given to needy families on Dec. 23. Don’t forget Gustav, the Elf On Main - a small plush character - who will be hidden in 44 merchants’ shops along Main Street and Christmas Market Vendors during the holidays. Shoppers can visit these participating shops, locate Gustav and have their "passports" stamped (only 25 stamps are needed). Passports will be available on the back of the Events Page found in the Holiday Gift Guide of the Belleville News Democrat or they can be picked up at Christkindlmarkt Haus 1, or at Christmas market vendors, or at the participating stores. All completed passports must be submitted to Local Lucy's new location at 310 East Main St. by Dec. 22 where kids will receive a free gift just for participating (while supplies last) and one passport will be drawn on Dec. 23 to win $100 in Main Street dollars. The Market will be open Sun. from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Mon.-Thurs. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Fri. and Sat. from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Opening Day begins at 8 a.m. For more information and entertainment schedule, visit www.bellevillechristkindlmarkt.com and the Facebook page.

Call Helping For People Help Needs A Hand Build New Beginnings

D

id you know that Call for Help, Inc. has been assisting residents of the Metro East who are facing personal crisis for 45 years? Call For Help’s net is cast far and wide offering services for a myriad of problems including poverty, homelessness, personal crisis and sexual assault. Specifically, Call for Help seeks to bring recovery, healing and independence to the people they serve through: • 24-hour response and advocacy for victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse, plus counseling for adult and child victims, and community education in sexual assault awareness • Residential program preparing homeless young women and their children to live in the community • Residential program for persons with mental illness who are homeless, helping them return to stable community living • Recovery Support Center offering support groups, activities and other resources for adults with mental illness who live in the community • Information and referrals connecting people with community resources that can help

Founded in 1970, Call for Help serves the Illinois portion of the St. Louis metro area. The organization is a United Way member agency, accredited by the Council on Accreditation and a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity. Currently, Call For Help is seeking volunteers as the need for assistance in all areas of service is greater than the staff can continue to handle themselves. While volunteering has a meaningful, positive impact on the community and the organization, research shows that donating time can have many benefits personally for the volunteer. Of course, monetary donations are extremely helpful during this time of financial crisis in the state of Illinois and a private web site is available at callforhelpinc.org to give anonymously or otherwise: Go to the web site and click on the top blue button that says “Donate Now.” There is also a “Wish List” on the web site of things needed at the agency for the people under their care. Call for Help is grateful to receive non-perishable snack items; any arts and craft supplies for both adults and children; composition books; school supplies; all sizes of women’s undergarments, sweatshirts, sweat pants and socks; new cotton T-Shirts (all sizes); full-size and travel-size hygiene products; baby care items; towels and wash cloths; and cookware. For more information and to donate or volunteer, please call (618) 397-0968 or visit www.callforhelpinc.org.

Don Rodgers Ltd. A “West End” Treasure Celebrates 40 Years

V

isitors have flocked from far and wide to shop at Don Rodgers Ltd. for 40 years now. “Time has really flown and I am very grateful to my customers who come from as far away as the Illinois communities of Edwardsville, Lebanon, O'Fallon and Alton; or from St. Charles and St. Peters, South and West Counties, and even Cape Girardeau in Missouri, just to name a few,” owner Roger Wigginton said. “Really, we are the last fashion boutique in the area that offers women’s and men’s merchandise,” Wigginton said. “Nobody has my look at my price! The things we carry here will never be found in a shopping mall. Consequently, our customers love that uniqueness and the very competitive prices. I keep my overhead down and pass that savings on to you.” Don Rodgers Ltd. has been an anchor in the West End of Belleville not only as a successful retail business but also as a champion for the community. Always “in-the-know,” Wigginton has made it a life-long mission to be involved in making the West End a wonderful place to live, work and shop. Even though he still works six days a week at Don Rodgers, he finds the time to be involved in the City as the Alderman of his ward and is the co-chairperson of the West Belleville Promotional Committee among many other committees. Inside the shop, though, it is holiday time. “The holidays are a fun time of the year around here. We are absolutely loaded with new items,” Wigginton said. "And I’m getting new merchandise every day – the UPS man doesn’t ever pass us by.”

pants the perfect match - you don't want a zipper and button in the way. I have these pants in seven different colors plus denim. This style is designed to fit a lady, meaning, they sit at your waist, not below!" Some time ago, he and Watson could see that fashion designers were no longer showing as many dresses as in the past. Seeing an opportunity, they wisely created a niche in dressy separates perfect for special occasions such as weddings, cruises and nights on the town. “We offer matching solid slacks, skirts and shells in six different colors, and then we combine a fabulous blouse or jacket to make an amazing outfit,” Wigginton said. Then all you need is a different colorful blouse or jacket and voila… a new outfit! And by the way, a large percentage of their merchandise is made in America or Canada, and come in easy-care, wrinkle-free fabrics most of which can be washed. Known as the “jacket capital of the Midwest,” shoppers can choose from tons of different styles to wear with a dressy pant or skirt, or even jeans. Don’t wait too long when the new season’s items are placed on the shelves – they will likely be gone by the end of the week. The men’s department is equally as impressive with such sophisticated brands as Forsyth of Canada, Hardwick Clothes, Fusion and Grand River jeans. Here customers can find suits, sport coats, dress shirts, golf shirts, sweaters, trousers, casual pants and jeans. And there are two seamstresses for alterations available.

Studying the trends daily, he and his long-time buyer, Linda Watson, both agree "this is the best-looking fall/winter we have seen in 10 years. Everything is cute, stylish and saleable."

Something relatively new is the Normal Brand founded by Lan Sansone of St. Louis featuring soft, yet durable, cotton Tees, Henleys, button downs, polos and more. “The Normal Brand caters more to the younger men weekend wear,” Wigginton said. “So far it has done well here.”

Popular this year are capes, long sweaters and tunics paired with leggings or skinny pants - "Women don't tuck things in any more," Wigginton said, "which makes our Euro pull-on

Lashley Family Continues Legacy Of Pet Care

F

riends and clients of Dr. and Mrs. David Lashley, founders and owners of Lashley Animal Hospital and Country Estate Kennel, will be pleased to know their eldest son, Christopher Lashley, has joined the business – continuing the family's legacy of high-quality pet care for years to come. A successful attorney, Lashley decided to leave the full-time practice of law to focus on family and community. As CEO of both the hospital and kennel, he is in charge of business operations including the individual brand profiles – both online and offline – as well as policies, staffing, and future growth strategies. “After the birth of my children, I recognized my desire to live a life focused on family,” said Lashley who, with wife Elena, has two children – Caitlyn (9) and Braeden (6). “Joining the businesses my parents have poured their hearts and souls into for nearly 50 years allows me the opportunity to work side-by-side with them as we grow the businesses and care for the dogs and cats of this community for another 50+ years.” Already there are exciting expansions at both locations. Lashley Animal Hospital has upgraded its veterinary diagnostic tools to include a state-of-the-art electronic management system, digital dental and full body X-ray technology, an in-house laboratory for faster blood and urine results, and cold laser therapy. The hospital has also added an additional full-time

veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Fuller, to its staff which already includes Dr. Casey Davis and, of course, Dr. David Lashley who is still practicing full-time. A 3,000-square-foot expansion to Country Estate Kennel is another improvement that is being made under Chris Lashley's leadership. The expansion will provide 20 luxury suites for dogs and cats as well as a new expansive cattery to include condominiums and traditional cat housing to the already luxurious kennel which can currently provide housing for 200 dogs and 20 cats. In addition to boarding, the kennel offers daycare, grooming and obedience training. More than ever before, pets are part of the family – something the Lashley family has known all along. According to a 2015 Harris Poll study, more than three in five Americans (62%) have at least one pet in their household, with ownership highest among Millennials (65%) and Gen X (71% ). Likewise, nearly all pet owners (95%) consider their pets to be members of the family. “Growing up, I had lots of four legged brothers and sisters in addition to my human sister, Brook, and brother, Sean. My parents treated the animals with as much love and compassion as they treated any of us kids. That same love and compassion carried over into their professional lives – and will continue to be at the forefront of our businesses for years to come.” Located at 3120 North Illinois St. in Swansea, you may call Lashley Animal Hospital at (618) 234-4584; lashleyanimalhospital.com. Country Estate Kennel is at 1230 Thouvenot Lane in Shiloh, (618) 632-8008; www.countryestatekennel.com.

Removing

Wildlife

Requires Professional Help

A

s the weather cools off and furnaces click on, wildlife such as squirrels, mice and raccoons find homes (your homes) and other properties in the area quite attractive. In fact, this particular pest control market is on the upswing as more subdivisions are built in or near these animals’ natural habitat. These little critters can actually wreak great havoc on a home both structurally and cosmetically. “Yes! Squirrels and raccoons will chew right through soffits, roof lines, wires, roof vents, installation, fall into chimneys, etc.," said BEL-O Pest Solutions Co-Owner Ron Hodgkins.

“We can recommend different repairs after we remove the animal so they don’t come back!” said Dan Whitlock, a degreed biologist. “If you think you have successfully removed a squirrel or raccoon yourself and ‘fixed’ the spot they entered from yourself – they might just return and do it all over again. Most homeowners do not have the proper equipment or know-how to solve an animal problem correctly. Doing it yourself will most of the time lead to more comprehensive measures down the road to repair the problem permanently."

"When an animal gets into your home, they will cause damage and these are just a few examples of the many things we find. They will tear up a house because they are looking for food and warmth.”

BEL-O Pest Solutions will also inspect the rest of the home to assess the full extent of the infestation. “Besides causing damage, these kinds of wildlife can turn your attic, or wherever they are residing, into a latrine,” Whitlock said.

The homeowner who has heard or seen a wildlife pest in their home should give BEL-O a call and they will come out, take a look and make a proposal for removal – sometimes trapping is involved.

BEL-O Pest Solutions, locally owned and operated, services southwestern Illinois and eastern Missouri. Call (618) 235-8778 for an appointment.

Could Trusting Your Employees Pose a Serious Risk to YourBy Teresa Business? Pedigo, AdviCoach

M

ost business owners think that internal controls are just for large companies. But the fact is, small businesses are more likely to experience internal fraud and larger losses, which can have dire consequences on the business. According to the “2016 Global Fraud Study,” prepared by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), small businesses are twice as likely as large businesses to experience check tampering, skimming, payroll and cash larceny schemes. The study quoted that “in 94.5% of the cases … the perpetrator took some efforts to conceal the fraud. The most common concealment methods were creating and altering physical documents.” Implementing internal controls can be challenging due to the lack of available resources, but ignoring them is like leaving your cash drawer open. Business owners can mitigate risk by implementing internal controls. Here are a few examples: 1. Separation of duties Small businesses with limited human resources often have a single employee solely responsible for completing multiple tasks. By not segregating these tasks, there is a greater risk of fraud. For example, assigning different employees the responsibilities of authorizing transactions, recording transactions and reconciling accounts provides more effective internal controls and it is best to have these defined in writing. MagazineAd(april2016).pdf

1

4/21/16

2. Policies and procedures Effective policies and procedures help align your business objectives, while establishing operating procedures. These are one of the most underused control tools. No matter how uncomplicated you think your business is, there is value in creating written policies and procedures. 3. Oversight and review Small business owners are often so busy working in their business that it is difficult to pay enough attention to basic internal control monitoring procedures. Proper oversight is essential to the internal control framework and an important aspect of fraud prevention and detection. Reviewing certain key metrics, sales, expense accounts, cash reports, variance reports, payroll summaries and other data on a monthly basis is essential. 4. User access rights for information systems Employees are often provided with more access to information systems than they actually need to perform their job responsibilities. This may occur because it’s the easiest to set-up or because employee roles are not defined. However, providing such access can expose the business to additional risks for which the business owner is not aware. Contact me to discuss what types of internal controls should be implemented for your business in order to minimize risk: tpedigo@advicoach.com or (217) 433-6809.

Beloman Receives Coveted TORCH Award From The BBB

B

eloman was among 10 businesses and two charities that received the coveted TORCH Award from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois on Oct. 27 at the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis. Beloman is the only heating, cooling and plumbing company in the Metro East to ever win this award. To receive the TORCH Award, businesses are evaluated for their commitment to customer service through exceptional standards for ethical business practices. The awards committee, made up of previous winners, looks at how the company benefits customers, employees and the larger community. They also must meet BBB ethical, advertising and selling standards. Beloman, based in Belleville, is a second-generation heating and cooling contractor that has been serving the Metro East area for 57 years. Jim Lugge, president and son of the founder, said the company’s mission is simple: Do the job right the first time, every time. “Every employee represents the company, and they have to do it well the first time,”Lugge said. “If we do have a problem, we address it immediately.” Sales Manager Jerry Harrington said every employee is empowered to do what he or she needs to do to satisfy a customer and“it’s huge to know that your boss has got your back. Beloman tries to instill in every one of its 50 employees that we are all service people,”not just the technicians in Beloman’s fleet of 40 vehicles. Customer service training at Beloman is ongoing and the firm credits much of its success to a customer review program begun earlier this year. Each employee

is given cards that they hand out to satisfied customers, asking them to write a five-star review on the company. Customers can choose among several places to post online reviews, such as Better Business Bureau, Google and others. The company has received more than 300 reviews, including 65 on bbb.org. Employees can earn rewards based on the reviews they get, and the firm posts outstanding reviews in the company’s meeting room. The review program has supplanted the company’s previous surveys because the results are updated without using up valuable staff time. “It’s an absolutely wonderful program,” Harrington said. “Jim and I, and others, look at [reviews] daily. It’s a way to tell how people are doing in the field.” Both Lugge and Harrington said they are very pleased and humbled by the bestowing of the TORCH Award on their company and will proudly display the crystal trophy. Beloman offers a complete line of Carrier products including High Efficiency Furnaces, Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps, Humidifiers, Electronic Air Cleaners, Heat Recovery Ventilation, Energy Recovery Ventilation and Programmable Thermostats. Please visit the web site and view the company’s many awards throughout the years: www.beloman.com. Call (618) 235-6626 to request service in St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties. Santa Letters Help Raise Funds For Kids With Cancer Who else could be a better choice to help children with cancer and their families worldwide? Ol’ St. Nick of course! Six years ago, The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) started a fundraising campaign that helps Santa send letters – for just an $8 donation - to boys and girls before the magical night of Christmas. He knows if they’ve been naughty or nice, and what they need to work on before they hear the pitter-patter of reindeer hooves on the roof. Please place your order online at www.thenccs.org/santa by December 8 and help the NCCS in fulfilling their mission to improve the quality of life for these precious kids with cancer around the world.
