The staff will help new bike enthusiasts fall in love with riding and make sure everyone stays toasty warm this winter with the best in bundle-up jackets, fleeces, sweaters and gloves from The North Face.

“We love helping people fall in love with biking and being outdoors,” said Jon Greenstreet, Bike Surgeon co-owner. “Everyone here at the shop is into riding and the outdoors, and we are here to support and encourage you as you begin or continue your journey. “The staff here makes it a goal to reach out and connect with our customers and community by providing, and supporting, opportunities to get outside and ride,” he continued. “Whether through our wildly successful weekly group rides, our in-house wrench classes, the multiple shop social gatherings/parties we have throughout the year, or the world famous Fat Tire Festival; we love to help our customers have some serious FUN on the bike or enjoying the great outdoors.” BIKE SURGEON IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST RIDING A BIKE; it’s about creating a community of outdoor enthusiasts who are eager about making the most of what the midwestern outdoor scene has to offer. “Since the beginning, our focus has been increasing the quality of life for our customers,” said Chris Norrington, Bike Surgeon co-owner. “We want people to get the most out of the freedom and fun that comes from getting outdoors; whether riding a bike, taking a hike or going for a stroll around the neighborhood. We know how much we enjoy getting outside and we LOVE sharing that experience with our customers.”

Bike Surgeon not only represents great brands like The North Face and Specialized Bicycles, they also host several different activities throughout the week: • Yoga at the shop Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. • Ride-at-home virtual trainer races Tuesdays at 6 p.m. during the colder months • Mountain Bike Ride on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. that goes on all year long • Saturday Chilly Willie Ride 10 a.m. All of these things happen even as the temperatures dip and the cold weather sets in. Bike Surgeon is a great place to stop in for holiday gifting needs. isitors flock to the charming store from as far away as the Illinois communities of Edwardsville, Lebanon, O'Fallon and Alton; or from St. Charles and St. Peters, South and West Counties, and even Cape Girardeau in Missouri, to name a few. “Really, we are the last fashion boutique in the area that offers men’s and women’s merchandise,” Wigginton said. “Nobody has my look at my price! The things we carry here will never be found in a shopping mall. Consequently, our customers love that uniqueness and the very competitive prices. I keep my overhead down and pass that savings on to you.” Studying the trends daily, he and his long-time buyer, Linda Watson, both agree that "this is the best-looking fall/winter we have seen in 10 years. Everything is cute, stylish and saleable." Still popular this year are the long sweaters and tunics - "Women don't tuck things in any more," Wigginton said, "which makes our Euro pull-on pants the perfect match - you don't want a zipper and button in the way. I have these pants in seven different colors plus denim. This style is designed to fit a lady meaning they sit at your waist not below!" Some time ago, he and Watson could see that fashion designers were no longer showing as many dresses as in the past. Seeing an opportunity, they wisely created a niche in dressy separates perfect for special occasions such as weddings, cruises and nights on the town. “We offer matching solid slacks, skirts and shells in six different colors, and then we combine a fabulous blouse or jacket to make an amazing outfit,” Wigginton said. Then all you need is a different colorful blouse or jacket and voila… a new outfit!

For 39 years now, Don Rodgers Ltd. has been an anchor in the West End of Belleville not only as a successful retail business but as a champion for the community. Always “in-the-know,” owner Roger Wigginton has made it a life-long mission to be involved in making the West End a wonderful place to live, work and shop. Photos by Gary Luttrell Photography.

And by the way, a large percentage of their merchandise is made in America or Canada, and come in easy-care, wrinkle-free fabrics most of which can be washed. Known as the “jacket capital of the Midwest,” shoppers can choose from tons of different styles to wear with a dressy pant or skirt, or even jeans. Don’t wait too long when the new season’s items are placed on the shelves – they will likely be gone by the end of the week. The men’s department is equally as impressive with such sophisticated brands as Forsyth of Canada, Hardwick Clothes, Fusion and Grand River jeans. Here customers can find suits, sportcoats, dress shirts, golf shirts, sweaters, trousers, casual pants and jeans. And there are two seamstresses for alterations available. Something new is the Normal Brand founded by Lan Sansone of St. Louis featuring soft, yet durable, cotton Tees, Henleys, button downs, polos and more. “The holidays are a fun time of the year around here. We are absolutely loaded with new items," Wigginton said. "And I’m getting new merchandise every day – the UPS man doesn’t ever pass us by.” Even though he still works six days a week at Don Rodgers, he finds the time to be involved in the City as the Alderman of his ward and is the co-chairperson of the West Belleville Promotional Committee among many other committees. “I really enjoy what I’m doing right now,” he said, “and as long as I have my health, I’ll keep doing it!” Please visit Don Rodgers Ltd. at 6727 W. Main Street in Belleville; (618) 398-2421. "Like" the store on Facebook and visit www.donrodgersltd.net.

St. Paul’s Senior Community A Tradition of Faith and Caring

Leaving Your Legacy at St. Paul’s Senior Community

Many times we want to preserve the memory of a loved one; to express gratitude for a service well-performed; to demonstrate deep-felt humanitarian concerns; to support a tradition of excellence in senior care. Private philanthropy is the foundation of every charitable endeavor. Considering today’s economy and the increased complexity of our nation’s tax structure, it is more important than ever to plan your charitable gifts carefully. As you review your assets and explore the different ways to give, St. Paul’s Senior Community Foundation would welcome the opportunity to assist you and your advisors with information about planned-gift opportunities. 1) Gifts of Cash: A gift of cash is the simplest and most direct way to contribute to our foundation. You may designate your gift for a specific purpose, or you may choose to leave your gift undesignated to be used in the area of the greatest need. 2) Gifts of Appreciated Securities: An alternative to a gift of cash that deserves careful consideration is a gift of appreciated securities that you have owned for more than one year. Substantially greater tax benefits result because you avoid capital-gain tax. 3) Gifts of Life Insurance Policies: Life insurance is an asset that is frequently overlooked. If the original need for which a policy was purchases no longer exists, a gift of this asset can be very rewarding, particularly if the policy is fully paid. These are just a few ways that you can help make a difference while preserving the memory of a loved one at St. Paul’s Senior Community. In addition, please ask about our sponsorship opportunities in the building.

Feel free to utilize the Donate Now button on our Facebook page: St. Paul’s Senior Community Foundation or our web site donation link at stpaulsseniorcommunity.com/our-foundation. For more information, please feel free to contact Outreach Director Debra Pierce at (618) 509-4747.

Second Annual Christkindlmarkt In Belleville Set To Open On Nov. 27

The Belleville Christkindlmarkt Committee, under the Belleville Cultural Enrichment Organization, is excited to announce the second annual Christkindlmarkt: An authentic German Christmas Market set around the southeast and northeast corners of scenic Public Square daily from Nov. 27 through Dec. 23. After the huge success of the first Christkindlmarkt in 2014, Belleville's own "Christmas Carole" –Director Carole Piontkowsky – said, “I had confidence that it would be well received, but it was even more successful than I could have imagined! Visitors came from all over Southern Illinois as well as St. Louis. What’s really nice is those people who came to Belleville for the first time are now visiting throughout the year and asking about Christkindlmarkt 2015.” In a nod to Belleville’s rich German heritage, the Christkindlmarkt features European vendors, German food such as cookies and cakes, and beverages like the traditional Gluhwein, which is a warm spiced wine served in a souvenir mug. Attendees this year will find almost twice the number of vendors plus some new elements to make the event “bigger and better,” Piontkowsky said. “Of course everybody in town has been wonderful and supportive, including the downtown store merchants and city officials.” Those who have visited or lived in Germany will say there is nothing so awe-inspiring in the preChristmas season as visiting this special shopping experience. Every town has its own Christkindlmarkt where people gather to enjoy the onset of Christmas in open-air markets that offer baked goods, sweets and toys, and feature local and regional specialties. Nuremberg’s Christkindlmarkt (Christ Child Market) is one of the oldest and most traditional Christmas festivals in the world. The first official record of this pre-Christmas market dates back to 1628. Chicago is host to the largest Christkindlmarkt in the United States. Set on Belleville’s scenic Public Square, the market will be open daily from Nov. 27 through Dec. 23. Vendors will operate from individual wooden chalets designed specifically for this event, and will sell a variety of items including handmade German lace, Russian and Ukrainian nesting dolls, amber jewelry, hand-carved nativity scenes and ornaments, Egyptian hand-blown glass ornaments, hand-carved Santas, German accessories, Polish pottery, items from Nepal and Ireland – “Our Irish vendor who everyone loved last year is bringing other Irish vendors with him this year,” said Piontkowsky.

“Traditional German markets also include local craftsmen and we will have things like hand-crafted holiday table decorations and candles plus Austin’s Mohair socks that are literally used by mountain climbers all over the world,” she continued. New year this year is the Fest Tent on the southeast quadrant to give people an opportunity to sit at a table, get warmed up and enjoy family do-it-yourself activities – all free. This is where live entertainment will be featured every Friday and Saturday evening - see schedule on the web site. Don’t forget Gustav, the Elf On Main - a small plush character - who will be hidden in 44 merchants’ shops along Main Street and Christmas Market Vendors during the holidays. Shoppers can visit these participating shops, locate Gustav and have their "passports" stamped (only 25 stamps are needed). Passports will be available on the back of the Children's Activity Books found in the Holiday Gift Guide of the Belleville News Democrat on Nov. 22 or they can be picked up at Christkindlmarkt Haus 1, or at Christmas market vendors, or at the participating stores. All completed passports must be submitted to Irish Collections at 25 E. Main St. before Dec. 23 when one passport will be drawn to win $100 in Main Street dollars. The Market will be open Sunday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Opening Day begins at 8 a.m. For more information, visit www.bellevillechristkindlmarkt.com and the Facebook page.

Kathy Cox and Jerry Conway are the proud new owners and their love of the property is contagious. Recently engaged, the couple said, “When we walked in here for the first time, we just fell in love with it. The Manson had a great reputation under the previous owner so we did not want to make any changes until we were able to assess what was working and then make our own, unique enhancements.” The most obvious is the name change although they wanted to keep “mansion” in the title because of its rich history in the area. Thus, the new name is The Grille at the Mansion and they will have an expanded menu from the traditional steakhouse to include Cajun and Mediterranean dishes as well as more seafood, lamb, duck and more. With a lifetime of experience in the food industry, Jerry Conway is enjoying the freedom he has with the new menu and is using his background as the Executive Chef at Disney World in charge of Animal Kingdom, Epcot, The Magic Kingdom, The Royal Floridian and the annual wine and cheese festival as well as the fine dining sea food restaurant he owned in Florida among others. He is striving to provide "an approachable, upscale dining experience that is full of tastes and flavors that couples, business professionals and even families can enjoy any day of the week,” he said. "There's no need to travel to St. Louis to enjoy great dining." Some other exciting additions begins with Sunday Brunch for the month of December (first day is December 6) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. “We felt like the diners in the area would enjoy brunch at the mansion where friends and family can gather to share a meal,” Cox said. “Brunch offerings will include an array of traditional breakfast foods and some main course selections from the menu.”

Sunday Brunch on December 13 and 20 will feature a meet-and-greet with Santa when children will get to share their wish list with the jolly fellow. Please call ahead for reservations. Thursday and Friday nights will be Business After Hours Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. in the charming Carriage House Bar Area with fabulous appetizers and drink specials to relax and unwind. This room is also the site for live music on Saturday evenings. Weddings and receptions are also becoming very popular at the mansion with the perfect setting for a storybook occasion. The bride and her attendants have the use of a special room on the second floor that looks out over the grounds to keep an eye on the guests as they arrive. “This room is a nice selling point for the brides with its comfortable, yet elegant décor,” Cox said. “And then the double doors leading out to the balcony makes an excellent spot for photos.” Of course, the history of the Mansion in O’Fallon is lengthy, but some of the highlights from the original owners – the Wastfields - include their notable guests Charles Dickens and a young Abraham Lincoln, who was a lawyer at the time. The Wastfields also opened their doors to runaway slaves on their way north, becoming a station on the Underground Railroad. A removable staircase and hidden walls still remain where the slaves were hidden. “The best thing about this history is that – to our knowledge – no slave was ever discovered and captured,” Cox said. The Grille at the Mansion will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Party with dinner, music, drinks and fun. Please call soon to make your reservations. The restaurant also offers any size and type of on-site and off-site catering. For more information, please visit the web site at www.mansionsteakhouse.com. Better yet, stop in and visit at 1680 Mansion Way in O'Fallon or call (618) 624-0629. - See Executive Chef Jerry Conway’s Easy Holiday Appetizer Recipes on page 34.

WHEN YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.

D UEBBERT LAW DEFENSE • TRAFFIC • DUI • PERSONAL INJURY 618.235.0800 D UEBBERTLAW.COM 22 | Marketplace Magazine | Holiday Issue 2015 | marketplacemagazineonline.com

When your son or daughter is charged with possession of marijuana or driving while intoxicated or any number of other serious driving offenses, as a parent you often feel like your child is doomed and that nothing that can be done to help. “It is fairly common for a parent with her child to come to my office saying, “‘This is just a lost cause. My child’s life is over, right? He is going to have to plead guilty and lose his license, job, and his college scholarship,’” said RonDuebbert, a 25 year defense attorney veteran.

Mistakes Don’t Define who your son is.

- Ron Duebbert, DUEBBERT LAW OFFICE, PC

Families, and not just the arrested child, face significant emotional upheaval re garding many aspects of a pending crim inal or traffic case. The emotional side of a case is very important for families in a crisis because they have never before ex perienced this side of the law. Families want to hire a lawyer who is not only competent in the law, but one who is also willing to listen to the defendant and to give him hope that this traffic or crimi nal charge can be overcome even if that takes a lot of effort. “When I meet with my clients for the first time, I immediately begin my investigation into the facts of the case including long term aspects so that I can help them look toward the future and not let their mis takes define who they are or will be,” said Duebbert.

THE DUEBBERT DIFFERENCE. Many times people are unaware that there are several different stages at which a case may be “won” prior going to trial or prior to pleading guilty, which is why Ron Duebbert approaches every new case with his intensive investigative approach, sometimes including the use of a private investigator. “Really, at The Duebbert Law Office, we do a lot of investigation, often more than many law offices,” said Duebbert. “I actually enjoy digging through police reports with a finetoothed comb and do ing legal and other research, and when necessary, going out to the scene of the “incident.” I have won many cases just by going out and taking pictures and mea surements through my investigator, and having my paralegal take statements from witnesses. I enjoy that.” “The ‘return on investment’ with regard to investigation, as well as careful examina tion of the police report for its strengths and shortcomings, can not be overem phasized,” said Duebbert.

D UEBBERTLAW.COM

The other defense strategy Duebbert em phasizes is carefully managing a case from a pretrial motion standpoint. Motions to suppress arrest and evidence are con sidered by Duebbert early in every crimi nal and serious traffic case. “My clients are successful in a lot of cas es at the pretrial suppression hearing lev el, meaning that the defendant’s actions in violation of the law and for which the defendant is charged take a back seat to the facts surrounding the arrest. So often the arrest does not follow the law. So sometimes the case ends favorably for the defendant before trial, and that is because we go into the courtroom having done our homework.”

PROTECTING RIGHTS “I don’t just take a case to make money. I take them when I see there is merit,” Duebbert stated, who recently has be gun to dedicate a significant part of his practice to helping protect the rights of minors, that is, children under age 18. Duebbert has been appointed by the court as the Guardian ad Litem for children who need protection and who otherwise do not have a voice. A Guard ian ad litem (GAL) is a person, most often an experienced lawyer, the court appoints to represent the best interests of a child in probate, personal injury, and family cases. “Sadly, many children require protection from adults in their lives who are unable or unwilling to provide such necessary protection. I believe very strongly that as an attorney, it is my responsibility to help others, especially children, who are less fortunate,” said Duebbert.

FEWER CASES ALLOW THE ATTORNEY TO BE MORE ADEPT AND EFFICIENT WITH CASES. “I take fewer cases so I can pay closer attention to each one of them and, there fore, be more effective for my client. I am much more available to my clients,” Ron Duebbert stated. “When I take fewer cas es, I can devote more of my resources to defending those cases individually.” Duebbert believes that The Duebbert Law Office’s percentage of successful case outcomes for his clients both in St. Clair County and in other Southern Illinois counties is high because his office takes fewer cases so the attorney can focus more closely on each case. Duebbert has seen many cases and de fendant’s lives slip through the cracks be cause of a lack of time commitment to the case by a law firm, which includes lack of investigation and lack of attention to de tail, as well as resistance to filing time con suming pretrial motions, “and yet, motions to suppress which may win or lead to a reasonable negotiated disposition should always be considered, thus making trial unnecessary,” said Duebbert. “Truly, the best defense is a good offense.” With 25 Years of Experience in the Illinois Court System, Criminal Defense & General Practice Attorney Ron Duebbert will defend your rights. Dr. Lashley’s Pet Care Tips

for the Winter Weather

Most people are aware of the risks that HOT weather poses to your fur babies. Did you know that cold weather also poses serious threats to your pets’ health? Here are some tips to keep your pets safe during cold weather.

Health Exams: Be sure your pet has had her annual physical exam before cold weather sets in. Cold weather may worsen some medical conditions. Know your pet’s cold tolerance: Just like people, cold tolerance varies from pet to pet. Each pets’ tolerance is based on their coat, body fat stores, activity level and health. Adjust their activities according to their cold tolerance. Keep your pets inside. Cats and dogs should be kept inside during cold weather. Dogs and cats are not more cold tolerant than people. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, and should be kept inside. Longer-haired and thick-coated pets are more tolerant of cold weather; but no pet should be left outside for long periods of time in belowfreezing weather. Do Not leave your pet unattended in a garage. Garages pose many dangers to pets. If your pet MUST be outside, provide her with a warm, solid shelter against the wind. The shelter should be off of the ground, the bedding thick and dry, and the shelter face away from the wind. DO NOT use space heaters or heat lamps as they are a risk for burns or fire. Check their paws: Check your pet’s paws frequently for signs of coldweather injury or damage, such as cracked paw pads or bleeding. During a walk, a sudden lameness may be due to an injury or may be due to ice accumulation between her toes. Regular grooming can help keep ice and snow from accumulating around their feet or between their toes. Wipe down: Your pet’s feet, legs and belly may pick up deicers, antifreeze, or other chemicals that could be toxic. When you get back inside, wipe down (or wash) your pet’s feet, legs and belly to remove these chemicals, and reduce the risk that your pet will be poisoned after (s)he licks them off of his/her feet or fur. Consider using pet-safe deicers on your property to protect your pets and the others in your neighborhood. Use leashes: Never let your pet off leash on snow or ice as they can easily become lost. Many pets become lost in winter because snow and ice can hide recognizable scents that might normally help your pet find his/her way back home. Make sure your pet has a well-fitting collar with up-to-date identification and contact information. A microchip is a more permanent means of identification, but it’s critical that you keep the registration up to date. Leave your pet at home: Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during cold weather. A car can act as a refrigerator in the winter, holding in the cold and causing the animal to freeze to death. Limit car travel to only that which is necessary.

Prevent poisoning: Make sure your pets don’t have access to medication bottles, household chemicals, potentially toxic foods such as onions, xylitol (a sugar substitute) and chocolate. Avoid ice: When walking your dog, stay away from frozen ponds, lakes and other water. You don’t know if the ice will support your dog’s weight and if your dog breaks through the ice it could be deadly. Be prepared: Cold weather also brings the risks of severe winter weather, blizzards and power outages. Prepare a disaster/emergency kit, and include your pet in your plans. Have enough food, water and medicine (including any prescription medications as well as heartworm and flea/tick preventives) on hand to get through at least five days. Feed appropriately: Keep your pet at a healthy weight throughout the winter. Extra weight doesn’t necessarily mean they are better prepared for the cold. Extra weight can lead to health issues. Outdoor pets will require more calories in the winter to generate enough body heat and energy to keep them warm – talk to your veterinarian about your pet’s nutritional needs during cold weather. Make some noise: During the winter, outdoor pets sometimes sleep under the hoods of cars. When the motor is started, the pet can be injured or killed by the fan belt. If there are outdoor pets in your area, bang loudly on the car hood before starting the engine to give the pet a chance to escape. Help your pet release energy: As the weather gets colder, family and friends visit and you spend more time away. Less outdoor exercise and less exciting in-house activities can leave your pet with pent-up energy. Come up with fun games to play indoors to help your pet through the winter. Routine is better: Most of us have a routine we stick to during most of the year. However, as the holidays come around that routine is broken. This affects our entire family, including our pets. Try to keep you pet's routine as normal as possible. Comforts of Home: If you are traveling with your pet, be sure to bring some comforts from home. Toys, treats, bedding can all help relax your pet during this stressful time. When you arrive at your destination be sure to show your pet around and make sure they know how to get to all of their necessities. Most Important: Give your pet extra love and attention during the cold weather and holidays. We all get pulled in different directions this time of year. Sometimes our pets can feel neglected. They are an important member of your family. It is critical that they always feel that way.

Insurance Agent Kevin Benson Builds His Business On Relationships Born and raised here in the Metro East, Kevin Benson knows the area well and knows what types of auto and home insurance people should have to protect their assets. Having joined Yaekel and Associates almost 10 years ago, Benson said his company has a long-standing reputation for excellent customer service in the community – over 120 years in fact! Family-owned, the independent insurance agency has been in Belleville since 1897. With the flexibility available as an Independent Agent, Benson can evaluate his client’s needs and match them to strong companies that offer excellent rates and products. “Obviously we are all about protecting peoples' assets,” he said. “Whether you are a first-time home buyer or not, you need to protect what you have accumulated throughout your life. And you really need a professional to advise if you’re ‘kinda’ protected or fully protected.” He also urges his clients to build a relationship with him so they are comfortable enough to let him know when a new purchase has been made, for example, like a new piece of art. “You need to tell your agent about things like that. It’s important to build trust with an agent so everything is properly insured.” Obtaining a quote for your auto and/or home insurance is a very simple process, Benson said. It literally takes less than 10 minutes to gather the information neces-

sary. “Getting a quote is also very private and confidential. Some people are worried that their current agent will find out that they are ‘shopping’ for better rates, but that is not true for personal insurance.” Yaekel uses all the “main players” when it comes to personal insurance companies: Erie Insurance, Auto-Owner's Insurance, Acuity Insurance, Progressive Insurance and QBE Insurance to name a few. A full listing is on the web site at www. yaekelinsurance.com. When it comes to life insurance, “we have a whole host of opportunities - indeed over 100 different companies. I focus on life insurance for investment purposes: Termlife insurance, universal (guaranteed and accumulates funds) and whole life insurance. Receiving a quote for life insurance is even easier than auto and home: We just need to ask a few simple questions to start the process.” Benson grew up in Caseyville where his parents still reside and graduated with a marketing degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He now lives with his wife and three sons - 12-year-old twins and a 5-year-old - in Maryville. For more information, call Kevin Benson at (618) 406-4772 or email him at kbenson@yaekelinsurance.com. Yaekel and Associates is located at 1915 W. Main St. in Belleville; www.yaekelinsurance.com.

Herzog Kitchen And Bath Is Family-Owned And Operated For 37 Years

“It’s not the promises we make that count…It’s the promises we keep.”

F

or 37 years, The Herzog Family has been designing and constructing kitchens and baths of which dreams are made. What began in the garage of their Highland home in 1979 has become an anchor in the industry throughout the region. In fact, they have won countless awards from St. Louis Homes magazine and other organizations. “In 1979, we were living in the same home I was born and raised in, and we started by doing mainly countertops,” Debbie Herzog said. “A friend of ours convinced us to move the studio to Glen Carbon – right where we are located today – and he was so right about the business. But we did move our family back to our original house in Highland and raised our kids in the country. I still live there today!“ While there were hardly any other businesses in the Glen Carbon area at the time, it is fortunately now right in the middle of the shopping area just barely off 159 on Kettle River Drive. Truly a literal “All In The Family” company, Herzog said, “Behind our team of seasoned professionals is my family. Our dinners consist of reminiscing about our friends and projects. Much joy comes from the relationships that we make and keep.”

Herzog, the owner and my son, and Matt Ragan, my son-in-law, in your home actually doing the work. They will make sure quality is of the utmost importance because their name is on the project. Both take pride in their work!," said Herzog. "Ryan and Matt have built a strong reputation for showing respect and demonstrating cleanliness in your home. In addition, our installers interface with our designers to ensure meticulous attention to detail." Herzog Kitchen and Bath is an active member of the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association). Continuing education keeps our team up to speed on the latest industry standards. “From contemporary to traditional, we design every kitchen and bathroom with function and beauty in mind,” she said. Some of the brands they utilize are Durasupreme Cabinetry, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and Silestone and Corian surfaces Their level of attentiveness has made HKB known not only for quality results but knowledgeable service. Living through a remodel is no easy task. “All of us understand and inform you of what to expect through each phase of your project,” Herzog continued. “No surprises!”

The design team, Debbie’s daughter Heather and daughter-in-law Tricia can pull all the pieces of their customer’s puzzle together. They will keep them from getting bogged down in details that can throw planning off track. Customers can do the dreaming while “the team” thinks through all the measurements, material coordination and construction logistics. In other words, a good design team will help do it right the first time and make the entire experience go smoothly.

From design to installation, Herzog makes your home improvement experience a pleasant one. Whether a satisfied customer refers us or you just want to stop in, feel comfortable to take a walk through our showroom, have some coffee, and who knows, we may have something in the oven.

Most importantly, “When you work with our Herzog Kitchen and Bath family, you will have Ryan

What color will your Christmas be? Blue Christmas? White Christmas? Partly, it depends on where you are in life. As Jesus-followers, we believe that because of Christmas, every season of life has meaning and purpose. Even a "blue Christmas" can have significance because of Jesus. Whatever "color" your Christmas is set to be, come and hear stories, music and truth about this One born over 2,000 years ago who gives purpose to this and every season.

Holiday Decorating Tips From An Expert

L

ocal interior designer Kay Kendall provided some great ideas for Christmas decorating on a budget. “With a sluggish economy, it’s time to regroup, rethink and recreate new ideas using your existing or recycled holiday decorations,” she said. “Go green!”

Also, have fun with various sizes and scales of ornaments and decorations sitting about the house. “Different sizes keeps things interesting and please don't fill every corner, nook and cranny with Christmas décor,” she said. “Less is always more!”

First of all, “Make a plan! Before you drag everything out of storage, it's helpful if you decide on a theme,” Kendall said. A few ideas to consider:

• Entry Door and Porch • Tree – any size pine tree or use a large houseplant! • Fireplace Mantle • Dining Room Table • Windows Finally, “decorating should be fun,” Kendall said. “Embellish some of your existing ornaments such as glass bulbs and wreaths. Kids love to help decorate with glitter, jewels, ribbons, photos, clay pots, candies and cookies. Let them take past or existing holiday cards and make ornaments or wall hangings out of them.”

• Toyland • Old Fashioned • Rustic • Santa • Country • Victorian • Patriotic • Modern or Eclectic Mix • Artsy or whimsical Secondly, keep it simple. “Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to use everything you have or driving all over in search of the perfect items,” Kendall said. “Pick your favorite items for your theme and add some bold color combinations (this is great for the colored glass tree bulbs).”

Areas of the house that make the biggest impact for your holiday décor:

Decide what you are going to use and if there are items in your collection that you haven’t used lately, donate to a shelter or service organization where they can give another family great joy. Or, keep half of your collection and donate the other: “It feels good!”

For more ideas and tips from Kay Kendall Interior Design, call 618-5676008; email Kay.Kendallinteriors@ norcom2000.com. Her design services include residential, commercial, healthcare, institutional, marine and aircraft.
