Oktoberfest at Soulard Market returns October 12-13, celebrating both the city’s and neighborhood’s German heritage through two days of food, drink, live music and entertainment. 2018 will feature an open-air plaza, wine garden, seven bands (including Grammy award-winning Brave Combo), axe throwing activities, stein holding competitions, the return of “Oktubafest” with St. Louis Low Brass Collective, and performances by the famous, foot-stompin’ Schuhplattler Bavarian Dance Group. The annual event is family-friendly, and entry is free. Those ages 21 and over can further enhance their experience by purchasing a VIP Bier Hall ticket for $20, which includes access to the Bier Hall tent (with additional seating and bathrooms), tent-exclusive entertainment, premium German food and beer selections, and a one-liter commemorative Oktoberfest at Soulard Market stein.

A kickoff to Oktoberfest and fundraiser for Soulard Market Park On Saturday, Sept 29 from 6:30-9:30pm, join the Soulard Business Association in the SW wing of the historic Soulard Farmers Market for a kickoff to Oktoberfest and fundraiser for Soulard Market Park. The event will feature live music, attendance door prizes, a silent auction, light bites and drinks for purchase. A $20 entry donation is recommended. All proceeds will go toward Soulard Market Park beautification and the creation of a new festival area complete with hardscape, landscape and irrigation. Soulard Farmers Market is one of the largest and oldest farmers markets west of the Mississippi River. The adjoining Soulard Market Park is a beloved neighborhood green space and epicenter of activity (currently home to Oktoberfest, Greater St Louis Hispanic Festival, Soulard Concert Series, Founders Day, and various Mardi Gras events). For more information on der Feierabend fundraiser, and the beautification of Soulard Market Park, visit SBA on Facebook: www.facebook.com/SoulardBusinessAssociation

Neighboring Bogart’s Smokehouse is developing a special German menu exclusively for Oktoberfest at Soulard Market, featuring schnitzel with smoked cabbage, pretzel brats, bratwurst, knockwurst, pretzels with mustard, and a German sausages and cheese plate. Attendees can also choose from a multiple festive drink options: spirits from Jägermeister, wines from Missouri’s Stone Hill Winery and beer from Soulard’s own Anheuser-Busch (including Budweiser, Bud Light, Amberboch, Busch Bavarian, Elysian Night Owl pumpkin ale and Goose IPA, as well as Fraziskaner and Spaten in the Bier Hall tent). “Oktoberfest is a fun tradition here in Soulard that the local neighborhood businesses were proud to take on three years ago,” said Cathy Weldon of the Soulard Business Association. “It’s now a celebration that truly reflects Soulard, from Bogart’s food to Anheuser-Busch beer to our footprint at the iconic Soulard Farmer’s Market. The event is in the neighborhood, for the neighborhood and by the neighborhood, with the whole city invited.”

Event hours are Friday, Oct 12 (4pm-11pm) and Saturday, Oct 13 (11am-10pm). Two stages -the Plaza Stage and Bier Hall (VIP tent) Stage -will feature continuous entertainment and um-pa-pa jams.
