We live in a world filled with tragedy. The dreadful natural disasters of recent months and weeks have brought tragedies right to our own doorsteps – affecting our families, friends and neighbors in Houston, Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico, India and beyond. Each of these tragedies has made us ever more aware of the privilege in which we live, and ever more concerned about the Roslyn Dawson Thompson widening gap between those with wealth and opportunity, and those without – a gap that is made even greater in times of natural disaster and its aftermath. And each of these tragedies has also given us so many poignant and beautiful examples of people at their best – extending their help, solace and resources to the injured, the evacuated, the displaced and the homeless. From these acts of courage, kindness and honor, in times so challenged, we know we also live in a world filled with hope. At Dallas Women’s Foundation, we are grateful every single day for the privilege of being in service to women, girls and families across North Texas and around our state, and are honored by the trust of our donors and friends who empower our mission and enable our work.

P R E S I D E N T So, while I want to celebrate the important gains and successes that were made in the past year by Dallas Women’s Foundation through the support of our extraordinary donors, friends and volunteers – I do so with a deep sense of humility that countenances the enormity of need faced by women and girls. And that, in turn, drives a tremendous sense of responsibility among us all – to raise more money and more awareness in order to meet those needs and change the trajectory of women’s and girls’ lives in North Texas and beyond. In this newsletter, you see stories of the gains and successes of the past year. Our record-breaking $4.5 million in grants to exemplary organizations serving women and girls. Our great leap forward for the Unlocking Leadership Campaign – thanks to the phenomenal efforts of our campaign co-chairs and cabinet, and the generosity of everyone listed in the following pages – that has raised $38 million to date toward our $50 million goal. Our Leadership Forum & Awards Dinner that recognized women who have dedicated their lives to equity and advancing opportunities for women and girls – and set shining examples for us all. We are proud of our progress, and yet our celebration is sobered by heartfelt thoughts, prayers and hopes for our families, friends and neighbors in our state, our country and around the world. We rededicate our work and urge you to join us toward the goal of truly rebuilding what has been lost, and making this a safe, secure and equitable world for all.

Why I Give

The research that Dallas

Women’s Foundation is doing has the ability to leverage our grant making into collaborations with other people in our community, and throughout the state, to make the change we want to see occur.

- Ellenore & Kirk Baker

It is important to support an organization that makes the most of your contribution, and giving to Dallas Women’s Foundation does exactly that. My donation makes a huge difference because it invests in a woman, her family and our

Leadership Key Club for major gifts formed to help reach $50 million campaign goal Dallas Women’s Foundation announced updates to its Unlocking Leadership Campaign by establishing a new recognition level, the Leadership Key Club, for those who have contributed $100,000 or more to the current campaign. The announcement was made at a dinner hosted by Ashlee and Chris Kleinert, who serve as campaign co-chairs along with Paula and Ron Parker and Trea and Richard Yip. Campaign Co-Chair Ashlee Kleinert said that the campaign was launched so Dallas Women’s Foundation, which is the largest regional funder of programs for women and girls in the world, would be in a better position to take greater action for all women and girls moving forward.

Paula Parker, Ellenore Knight Baker, Toni Muñoz-Hunt, Betty Regard and Shawna Wilson

Ashlee and Chris Kleinert “The future of North Texas is directly tied to the economic security and potential of leadership of women and girls in our community,” she said. “It’s impossible to create a brighter future for North Texas communities without focusing specifically on the current condition, immediate needs and potential of women of all ages and backgrounds.”

Funds from the Unlocking Leadership Campaign are earmarked for the Foundation’s primary focus areas – women’s economic security and women’s leadership. The Economic Security Initiative aims to strengthen the economic security of 16,000 women and girls by 2021, and to date, has exceeded the goal by more than 3,000 women and girls.

Ann Margolin and Ka Cotter

The campaign’s Leadership Initiative aims to provide 60,000 women and girls with leadership training and opportunities, and thus far has reached nearly 28,000 women and girls through grant-making and programs. To date, $38 million has been raised towards the $50 million campaign goal.

Expand your Impact with a Donor Advised Fund Dallas Women’s Foundation is the largest regional women’s foundation in the world. Operating like a community foundation, we leverage resources to drive positive, transformational social and economic change. With 30 years of expertise connecting philanthropists with worthy causes, we make giving easy. By creating a donor advised fund, we can help you, and your family, accomplish your giving goals without the expense or administration of a family foundation.

BENEFITS OF OPENING A DONOR ADVISED FUND: Centralized Giving • Receive maximum tax benefits • Incur fewer administrative burdens and cost • Do all your giving in one place with online granting and account tools • Online grant making and account tools allow you to track grants, see your giving history, and search organizations online

Sophisticated Philanthropy • Grant anonymously to protect your privacy • Include additional advisors to your fund to fulfill family philanthropy goals • Support the issues that are important to you and your family, including your alma mater and community initiatives, by granting to a variety of nonprofits • Stay personally involved in grant making

Increase your Ripple Effect • Leverage the expertise of Foundation staff for maximum impact • Invest with over 40 other funds and more than $35 million in assets • Benefit from due diligence conducted on every nonprofit of interest • Receive one-on-one guidance from our staff for targeted projects

I believe in the power of Dallas Women’s Foundation to make change because they use research in their thoughtful decision making and follow up on their grants to agencies that serve our community.
