THE RAINFOREST Believed to be the oldest living ecosystems on earth, nurturing around 50% of the earth’s plants and animals and providing life's essentials such as our medicines, food and water, it’s no secret our rainforests are being destroyed. Besides providing a critical habitat, tropical rainforests play a key role in climate change, helping to regulate the Earth's temperature and weather patterns. In a bid to raise awareness about their plight, their threatened and endangered species, and the conservation efforts in place to protect what we have, AKOYA Oxygen has the first rainforest in the region. After all, the best way to understand and appreciate something is to experience it firsthand. "A RAINFOREST AT YOUR DOORSTEP."
INTRODUCING CACIQUE UMORO MOTIBAU Cacique (Chief) Umoro Motibau is the figurehead of the indigenous tribes of Parรก in Brazil, south of the Amazon Basin and along Rio Xingu. Born in the Amazonian rainforest village of Krajmopyjakare, he is the eldest son of the original chieftain. Cacique Umoro Motibau is a living ambassador for the preservation of the tropical rainforests and has travelled worldwide to educate international communities on the importance of these vital ecosystems.
A TROPICAL WONDERLAND Our tropical rainforest is a living, breathing ecosystem, dense with lush evergreen vegetation and exotic blooms, where fresh rainfall nourishes the diverse range of plants and trees every day. Housed within a spectacular sky dome, the rich tree canopy has clear views of the blue skies beyond, whilst waterfalls meander playfully throughout. Varieties of tropical birds add their colour and song to the abundant utopia.
ABUNDANT NATURE Welcome to a stunning botanical garden that personifies the richest rainforests of the world. The biodiversity of the plant and tree species is nothing short of incredible. Gigantic trees tower majestically over a beautiful garden of exquisite flowers and glossy foliage. Mahogany, teak, rosewood and okoumĂŠ trees offer a wonderful backdrop to orchids and bromeliads, as well as an abundance of fruit, nuts, rubber and rattan.
THE MAGIC OF LIFE The canopy is perhaps the most exciting part of the rainforest – since this is where most of the flowering and fruiting takes place, attracting a variety of spectacular creatures. Ascend any of the elegant staircases and you will be engulfed in overwhelming tropical sound and colour. You can witness butterflies sipping nectar and even catching a ride on some of our visitors. Parrots and hornbills, toucans and hummingbirds, will fly before you, as you make your way through their natural habitat. TIP: Wear bright colours and citrus cologne if you want the butterflies to land on you!
MESMERISING RAIN EVERY DAY Do you ever wish for rain in Dubai? Come to a place where it rains every day. Feel the delicate precipitation on your skin and experience the life giving showers serenading you as you wind your way through the forest. The young at heart will relish playing in the rain while romantics will be soothed by the sight of raindrops lingering on green leaves.
THE BEAUTY OF NATURAL LIGHT The tropical rainforest is cocooned in a beautiful sky dome that ensures the climate remains suitable for its flora and fauna, all year round. The one-of-a-kind sky dome offers amazing views of the blue skies beyond and an abundance of stunning natural light pours in through the canopy, making its way down to the forest floor below. Forget the harsh sands of the desert as you embrace life with lush greenery and refreshing rains.
NURTURING THE NEXT GENERATION Cacique Umoro Motibau will take children on a magical journey through the rainforest with a variety of interesting activities to showcase the stunning natural environment. From pond dipping and bug spotting to walks in the canopy and challenging activity sheets, children of all ages will be engaged and entranced.
A CULTURE OF GREEN For adults, Cacique Umoro Motibau will take you on a fascinating journey into rainforest life. Learning about a typical day in the life of a tribal member, you will see existence from a new perspective. The roles of men and women, social systems, education and diet, to language and customs will all be explained. Take part in ancient rituals and experience a whole new world of culture and festivities.
BUSH CRAFTS You will learn about arts and crafts using materials from the rainforest to make everything from pots for cooking and matapees (for squeezing the juice out of the grated cassava) to bows and arrows, along with straw mats and even jewellery.
TRIBAL BEATS The people of the rainforest use an array of wind, string and percussion instruments to produce haunting music in celebration and praise. Intricate dance steps and interlocking rhythmic patterns from drums are often accompanied by melodic chants. Participants are arranged in a circle in a sociable bonding experience to encourage and thank the rain gods, as well as marking a host of other life events. The visceral beat of the tribal music transcends race, ethnicity, religion and even time, as it speaks to us the same way now as it did to the tribal people dancing in the heart of the rainforests hundreds of years ago.
FOOD FOR THE SOUL Skilled chefs, minimal menus and dishes utilising the fruits of the rainforest – food lovers will be fascinated by our cookery talk. An abundance of plants – more than 2,000 in fact – are used by the rainforest people, including coffee, corn, ginger, bananas, mangos, sweet potatoes, avocados, coconut and cinnamon to name but a few. Treat your palate to exotic organic fare at the tropical rainforest café in one of the richest natural habitats ever created. From fresh juices and spices to exotic meats and salads, prepare to have your taste buds tantalised!
CELEBRATIONS IN GREEN Be the king or queen of the jungle – by making the ultimate commitment to your partner in the heart of the rainforest with an unforgettable marriage ceremony. A truly stunning setting, you can make your vows in a beautiful forest clearing, with butterflies and birds joining your wedding party – before you enjoy an incredible celebratory feast. You can also commemorate your birthday, anniversary or any other occasion. Escape into a tropical adventure that's perfect for themed events, holiday parties and even entertaining clients.
