Cobaw SF / Conservation Area Exploratory Day trip, mid week (Date TBD based on easing of lockdown)

Exploratory Day Trip to Cobaw SF

In May 2021, the Club went and drove a small section within Cobaw SF, as reported in the July edition of the Club Magazine. There are many more tracks to be explored within Cobaw SF. However, not all the tracks are going to be suitable for Subarus. Unfortunately, other than the several well known “Extreme” tracks, there is little information on the obstacles one might find on the other tracks. It is therefore necessary to do further recon and gauge the difficulties of the tracks first, before running future club trips to the forest for the general membership.

What can be expected? There are plenty of fun challenges, with some potentially too difficult for the typical vehicle within the club. After rain, some tracks can be very slippery with deep bog holes, as I found out on Pole Track when I made the mistake of not checking the depth beforehand. Some sections of the park will have deep ruts, while other tracks may be steep and rocky.

The Plan The idea for the day is to explore the following tracks • Nudist Camp track • Reillys Firelane • Pole Track • Camp Track • Soil Pit Track It is highly unlikely that we’ll be able to cover all the above tracks in one day. On the day, we may decide to duck into and explore some of the other tracks in the forest.
