Every year, we celebrate the best that Dana Point and Capistrano Beach have to offer by honoring local businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals with the People’s Lantern Awards, as selected by you, the readers. At no other time in our publication’s history have those recognitions ever been more important, as this Best of 2020 highlights the resiliency of the local community that faced unprecedented challenges over the past year. The California Bagel—made with cream cheese, tomato, onion, avocado, and lemon pepper—is a customer favorite, says owner Jim Miller. But customers also have 20 different types of bagels and 18 different menu items from which to choose. Fresh bagels are delivered each morning. “The secret is also in the toasters. They get the bagel to be the perfect amount of toasted,” Miller says. You can enjoy your mouthwatering bagel while taking advantage of the outdoor patio seating along the harbor.

Another year, another Golden Lantern. As if there was ever a doubt, A’s Burgers has been and will continue to be the standard of breakfast burritos in Dana Point. Its breakfast burritos are good because the ingredients are good. Fresh eggs and hand-made hash browns populate the inside of this tortilla wrap paired with protein choices of bacon, sausage or chorizo.
