Five things Dana Point should know this week Michael Villar Announces Candidacy for City Council’s Fifth District Seat THE LATEST: The Fifth District of Dana Point will vote in November for a city council representative for the first time since the city converted to a districted system in 2018.

Michael Villar, a Capistrano Beach resident, has officially announced he will throw his hat into the ring for the 2020 election.

In 2018, Districts 1, 2 and 3 voted in Councilmembers Joe Muller, Richard Viczorek and Jamey Federico, respectively, and they are currently serving their four-year terms. This year, constituents in Districts 4 and 5 will vote for their representatives. Councilmembers Debra Lewis and Paul Wyatt hold at-large seats that Districts 4 and 5 will replace.

According to a press release, Villar is a 17-year resident and a retired U.S. Marine Corps pilot and commissioned officer, as well as a director in the construction industry. He received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from UCLA and a master’s degree in computer science from the Naval Postgraduate School.

“My approach to city council will foster an environment of civility and respect while always putting our residents and businesses first. As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that city councilmembers work together to help our residents and local businesses recover,” Villar said.

Villar says his campaign intends to focus on preserving the Capistrano Beach community’s friendly, small-town feel, protecting residential neighborhoods, enhancing beautification, preserving public safety and cultivating economic recovery.

In January 2019, former Councilmember John Tomlinson filed paperwork indicating his intention to run again in 2020. While Tomlinson has never confirmed his candidacy to Dana Point Times, the Dana Point City Clerk’s office received his Candidate Intention Statement—also known as a California Fair Political Practices Form 501—on Wednesday, Jan. 30. His campaign committee has since submitted the required expenditure reports.

‘Pilgrim’s’ Bell Presented to Wallace Family THE LATEST: Ocean Institute staff presented the Pilgrim’s bell to the family of Ray Wallace—a marine architect who had helped modify the vessel from a threemasted schooner to what she was before her demolition—on Saturday, June 6.

The Pilgrim was once a full-sized 1945 replica of the merchant ship that Richard Henry Dana detailed in his classic novel Two Years Before the Mast. It keeled overnight between Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 and sank in her slip at Dana Point Harbor.

Ocean Institute and other stakeholders, including the U.S. Coast Guard, determined she could not be safely removed from her slip without demolition. Her removal was performed piece by piece over the span of a week with extreme caution, allowing Ocean Institute crewmembers to salvage items for future display and to auction off to the public.

The bell was saved especially to present to the Wallace family in recognition of Ray Wallace’s service to the vessel.

The boat was originally built in 1945.

In 1975, she was sailed to Portugal under the command of Wallace—designer of the Columbia at Disneyland—where she was converted to a square-rigged brig. Pilgrim, 98 feet long with an average speed of 6-7 knots, sailed to Miami with a crew of 20.

A new crew of 14 then sailed her through

the Panama Canal, anchoring in Dana Point Harbor in June 1975.

“Ray was a very talented person. I always thought he was 50 years ahead of himself,” said Wallace’s brother, Ben Steel Sr. “He found the ship, bought the ship, took it to Portugal, designed what it would look like. My brother was a very qualified person. He loved kids. He wanted to teach youth about sailing and pass that on. . . .

He was a great guy, a wonderful person.”

Bill Steel Jr., a board member of the Ocean Institute and the nephew of Ray Wallace, apologized to the Wallace family that the Pilgrim sank on their watch. The Wallace family stated during the ceremony that if and when the Ocean Institute replaces the Pilgrim, the bell will be returned.

There has been no determination for what caused the ship to sink.

WHAT’S NEXT: Ocean Institute is holding an auction for notable artifacts of the Pilgrim as a fundraiser for the organization.

Bars, Gyms, Movie Theaters Could Reopen Friday THE LATEST: Orange County’s bars, gyms, movie theaters, professional sports and schools are among the sectors that could reopen with modifications as early as Friday, June 12, marking another step forward in the state’s phased approach to reopening California’s economy.

State officials late last week announced that counties that had previously received approval to move further into Stage 2 of the governor’s reopening plan, including Orange County, could reopen additional business sectors following a review of local epidemiological data.

The businesses will be expected to institute laundry lists of social distancing guidelines and encourage face coverings to minimize exposure to others and prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.

Movie theaters, in particular, will be required to limit seating, rely on reservation ticketing systems, direct ushers to monitor customer flow to avoid congregating, and designate separate entry and exit routes, among other stipulations.

Bars are expected to prioritize and expand outdoor seating, limit the number of patrons at tables, as well as the number inside based on establishment size; discontinue seating at bar counters where six feet of social distancing can’t be maintained; and lower the volume of house music so employees can hear customers more clearly without having to get too close to take orders.

Announcements from the county and state on June 5 noted that local health officers will have the final say on which sectors can reopen. Those decisions will need to be based on the data for the specific communities.

“As we continue to release guidance on how different sections can reopen with modifications, it is important to remember guidance doesn’t mean ‘go,’ ” Dr. Sonia Angell, the state’s public health officer and director of the California Department of Public Health, said in a June 5 press release.

“Your local health officer will make the final decision about which sectors will open, guided by data specific to your community.”

In order to continue moving further along the state’s reopening road map, counties must demonstrate a stable or decreasing number of hospitalized patients for COVID-19. Over a seven-day period, the average daily change in percentage can be no greater than 5%.

Counties must also keep their cumulative COVID-19 case positivity rate below 8% over a 14-day period. As of Wednesday, June 10, Orange County’s test positivity rate was at 4.7%, according to the state.

In a another press release, Molly Nichelson, the county’s public information officer, said a final decision regarding the timing for reopening will come from Orange County’s health officer no sooner than this Friday.

Preparations to begin reopening the additional sectors this week comes amid the resignation of Orange County’s Chief Health Officer, Dr. Nichole Quick, whose sudden departure has led to Dr. Clayton Chau, the agency’s director, taking that role.

Quick resigned on Monday, June 8, amid controversy over the county’s face mask order, which is that everyone must wear a face mask in public places where they cannot keep a distance of six feet from each other, and her directives on how businesses could reopen. A security detail had been assigned to Quick after protesters had demonstrated in front of her home and after she had received death threats.

Wagner asked Chau what metrics Orange County would need to meet in order for the mask policy to be eased, but Chau was unable to give a clear answer that satisfied Wagner, saying it was unclear how the boost in public gatherings, protests and reopenings would impact coronavirus case counts.

“We are seeing an increase in community transmission,” Quick had said at the June 2 board meeting. “I also think our hospitalization rates have been trending up.”

Health officials reminded the board that while face masks do not protect the individual wearing them, they reduce the spread to others with whom they have been exposed.

Demonstrators Call for No Masks or Social Distancing When Students Return to Campus

THE LATEST: Construction to expand Southern California Edison’s man-made kelp forest from the coast of San Clemente up to Dana Point’s waters resumed on Wednesday, June 10, according to the San Onofre power plant operator.

Based on ocean conditions, SoCal Edison had initially targeted Monday, June 8, to restart the work that will more than double the size of its Wheeler North Reef.

The project started in July 2019 before being placed on pause in October—the start of lobster season.

SoCal Edison is working to extend the artificial reef—currently stretching about 174 acres from Seal Rock out past the end of the San Clemente Pier—up north into Dana Point’s coastal area. When complete, the reef is expected to cover 384 acres.

As of September, SCE had concluded the 2019 portion of the $20 million expansion project, with 91,895 tons of rock placed, 119.33 acres built, 27 barge trips and zero safety incidents or near-misses, the company previously had stated.

Mandated by the California Coastal Commission (CCC) in the 1990s, the reef is intended to facilitate kelp forests that were lost to warm-water discharge from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).

According to SCE, work this summer will focus primarily on the stretch between just north of the San Clemente Pier and just south of Dana Point Harbor, where another 58,000 tons of rock are to be placed.

THE LATEST: An estimated crowd of 50-100 people demonstrated outside Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) offices on Wednesday, June 10, in favor of schools returning to pre-pandemic conditions when campuses reopen. Parents attended and brought their children.

Some of the parents at the event said they are against masks or social distancing being required of students. They also said they are against reopening guidelines recently brought forth by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, including rotating school attendance. The demonstration was organized by Parent Supported Action Plan-CUSD, which recently formed and has an Instagram account outlining their views.

“We want to work with the school district. We’re not anti-Capo Unified,” said Sarah Beck, a parent and one of the organizers. “We love our schools and our school district. We want to stand up for our kids so they can have a positive experience.”

Beck said she would homeschool her kids and remove her family from CUSD if masks are required, since masks can make non-verbal communication and facial expressions difficult to interpret.

“Kids need to have social interaction,” Beck said when asked about social distancing. “It’s important for human growth, for their development.”

When reached for comment, Ryan Burris, CUSD Chief Communications Officer, said they “appreciate hearing from our families” and “are grateful for their support and partnership as we develop plans to safely reopen our classrooms for students and staff.”

CUSD is currently using guidance provided by the California Department of Health to guide their work. CUSD has sent parents surveys asking their feedback on what education should look like going forward.

A compromise suggested by Beck included continuing to provide distance learning for families not ready to return to campus. The parents at the June 10 demonstration also advocated for handwashing to keep students safe.

Demonstrators walked around the CUSD parking lot holding signs, some of which said, “We need to breathe play interact no masks!” and “Normalize schools!”

The second protest held in Dana Point in response to the death of George Floyd, a black man who was in police custody in Minneapolis at the time he died, drew about 1,000 demonstrators on Friday, June 5.

Coast Highway, and then north to Salt Creek Beach—a 2.3-mile trek, or 4.6 miles for those who walked back to their starting point at the harbor. A plethora of passing cars honked at demonstrators who held up signs that decried police brutality or paid tribute to the black lives lost at the hands of law enforcement.

Alexa Murray, 19, is originally from San Clemente and recently moved to Dana Point. She and Olivia Fuentes, 19, organized both the first San Clemente protest and the second Dana Point protest.

“We are not part of any official organization,” Murray said. “We worked our butts off to make sure this event was as safe and peaceful as possible, while allowing people to stand up for what they believe in.”

Murray said it’s hard for her to understand why someone would hate someone for their skin color, but she wants that kind of thinking to be eradicated.

“Social justice is important to me, because the second I hear about someone being racially discriminated, it makes me feel disgusted,” Murray said. “People need to

be educating themselves on what the black community is going through and put yourself in their shoes, understand their perspective.

(Non-blacks) will never understand what that experience is like, but we can do our best to listen.”

Minneapolis police officers stopped Floyd on May 25 after a store clerk had accused him of using a counterfeit $20 bill. What transpired during his arrest has since sent shock waves across the nation.

Recorded video taken by onlookers shows one of the four responding officers—Derek Chauvin—pinning Floyd on the pavement by kneeling on the 46-year-old’s neck as he gasped and pleaded for air, struggling to breathe.

Chauvin, a white officer with more than 18 years of service with the Minneapolis Police Department, was fired after the incident, when he was initially charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter—charges many protesters had criticized, believing them to be too lenient.

resident Khalil Watson. Dozens of demonstrators peacefully marched from Bear Brand Park in Laguna Niguel to the Camino del Avion and Golden Lantern intersection, which straddles the Dana Point and Laguna Niguel border. There, they occupied the four corners while waving signs and chanting, “Black Lives Matter!”

The event came on the day that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced that Chauvin’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder.

Chauvin made his first court appearance on Monday, June 8.

The three officers who also were involved in Floyd’s arrest and didn’t intervene had also been fired, but it wasn’t until June 3 that Ellison brought charges against Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao for aiding and abetting in Floyd’s death.

While plans for a third demonstration in Dana Point are unclear, protests in South Orange County continued on Monday, June 8 in Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Santa Ana and Ladera Ranch. DP

Applications Open June 19 for Fifth District Small Business Grants More information has been released regarding how small businesses in the Fifth District of Orange County can qualify for funding.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors had voted on Tuesday, May 19, to allocate $75 million in federal CARES Act funding to support local businesses, directing staff to come back with clear definitions for qualifying small businesses and options for funding uses. The $75 million will now being split equally among districts.

“We all want to help small businesses, and we all have a slightly different approach to get there,” Fifth District Supervisor Lisa Bartlett said during discussion. “We all want to extend that lifeline out there. . . . I want to be able to sustain these businesses for the long term.”

The Fifth District Grant (part of the Small Business Grant Relief Program) allows for businesses and nonprofit organizations to request up to $10,000

in funding for rent, payroll (as long as Paycheck Protection Plan was not received), utilities, insurance, accounts payable, personal protective equipment and inventory.

Selection will be randomized and broken down by city within the Fifth Supervisorial District, with one allocation to account for the portions of Irvine and unincorporated communities.

The total value of grant awards will be based on the percentage of population of each city or unincorporated area.

As far as eligibility, businesses must be impacted by COVID-19, have no more than 25 employees, and provide proof of operations for the past year in a city within the Fifth District.

The $75 million comes out of the $554 million that Orange County received from the CARES Act, also known as the coronavirus relief bill.

The funding has gone toward testing and personal protective equipment such as medical grade masks and gloves for first responders and health care officials.

In order to qualify, a business or nonprofit must be eligible to receive federal funding.

OC Public Libraries Bookdrops Reopened All OC Public Libraries bookdrops reopened on Tuesday, June 9, except Costa Mesa Donald Dungan Library, which will reopen on June 20th.

“Bring your items back to the nearest library. All fines will be waived as soon as they are checked in,” OC Public Libraries said on their Facebook page. “Donations are still not being accepted at any library location.”

OC Public Libraries locations have been closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the Friends of the Library Bookstores remain closed in addition to the libraries, digital services remain available. A little more than two months ago, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic crisis that stopped life in its tracks, I reached out to our readers asking for help to support local, independent community journalism so that we could continue to deliver crucial local news and information during this unprecedented crisis.

As our local business owners closed their doors, we felt the immediate impact of the revenue losses as events were canceled, schools were closed and marketing budgets were slashed.

From the outset of the crisis, we made many changes and improvements to our operation, including launching new, community-specific daily e-newsletters (SC Times Daily, DP Times Daily and Dispatch Daily) with updates on the virus and how our communities were dealing with the crisis.

We also made significant changes in our newsroom staff in order to shift more focus on our social and digital platforms, created free online listings of all area restaurants that were open for takeout or delivery during the lockdown, eliminated operating costs and tasked our reporters and city editors with the job of increasing output to ensure that our communities were fully in the know.

Letters to The Editor TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AT THE DANA POINT HARBOR LISA LYNCH, San Clemente

Please consider instituting a rule among the boat owners to prohibit flying political flags in the Dana Point Harbor.

My husband and I own a boat that is docked in Dana Point Harbor. Each time we visit the harbor with our children, I am so disheartened to see the political flags, given what these flags represent to so many people.

For example, there is a flag that says, "Trump 2020, Make the Liberals Cry Again."

I find this vulgar and offensive. I have a hard time explaining to my children how flying this kind of flag is OK. This creates a hostile visual environment. There are also flags stat-

ing, "Trump 2020—NO MORE BS." Again, vulgar. There are signs stating, "Women for Trump”—on boats where I see only men.

Over the past several years, the Trump flags have come to represent, for many Americans, hate, dishonesty, anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-equality, anti-protester, and anti-democracy sentiments. One could even argue that the flag indicates a support of racism, as Trump has dog-whistled to racists for many years, through his words, actions, and selective inaction, including but not limited to “birtherism” and the “Central Park Five.”

I have wondered for a long time why there are so many boats in the harbor with political flags. To me, flying these flags in a public space is unacceptable.

Why would Dana Point Harbor allow divisive visual symbols at the harbor?

Please consider asking all boat owners to remove any political flags. Our neighbor-

hood association prohibits political flags and signs because of their divisive nature. I think it's even more important for the Dana Point Harbor to do the same, as this is a place so many people visit and want to enjoy.

Dana Point Harbor is one of my favorite places—please, don't let it be ruined by visually divisive symbols.

‘Don’t Let The Old Man In’

W

hile staring at my computer, pondering what advice I could share with mature singles in this week’s column, with COVID-19 still a concern—although restrictions have been eased somewhat—an email from my partner, Greta, arrived in my inbox.

Moments later, Greta, sitting at her desk a few feet away, said, “Did you get my email? It’s a video with a message that you might want to share with your readers.”

When I saw the subject line, “Don’t let the old man in,” I thought Greta had sent me a subtle hint that she’d seen enough of me during this challenging stay-at-home time.

The email explained that the word “man” could be replaced by the word “woman.” In other words, the message apON LIFE AND plied to seniors of either LOVE AFTER 50 gender.

By Tom Blake I watched the 4-minute video, which featured multiple scenes of Clint Eastwood, who is now 90.

According to the video, Eastwood and country-music singer Toby Keith were playing golf together at a Pebble Beach charity event two years ago. During the round of golf, Eastwood said to Keith: “I turn 88 on Monday.”

Keith said, “What are you going to do?”

Eastwood replied, “I am going to shoot a movie,” adding that filming was starting in two days.

Keith said, “What keeps you going?”

Eastwood replied, “I get up every day

and don’t let the old man in.”

Later that day at home, inspired by Eastwood’s relentless energy, Keith wrote a song, titled “Don’t Let The Old Man In.” He hoped Eastwood would like it. Not only did the actor like it, Eastwood felt he had a spot in the movie where the song would fit in.

A video was created by Lone Wolf Media, narrated by Keith and featuring his song. After I watched the video, I thought, Greta’s right. My readers might like this as an inspiration to keep on moving and living, regardless of their age and later-inlife challenges.

Yes, COVID-19 had slowed us all down, and made senior dating difficult, but I felt the video might encourage single seniors to not give up on meeting a mate.

I forwarded the video to my sister Pam, in San Diego. She replied, “The footage in the video is from The Mule, a movie Eastwood produced and directed in 2018. Great movie; you and Greta would enjoy it.”

I read about The Mule online. It’s based on a true story about an 85-year-old WWII veteran who was down and out; he tried to help himself get back on his feet by becoming a courier for a Mexican drug cartel, transporting contraband in his truck in larger and larger amounts.

During the video, there are a few Toby Keith lyrics that I felt might be appropriate for my senior readers, to inspire them to remain positive, particularly during the current difficult times. I am in no way advocating that they become drug smugglers.

One lyric: “Get up and go outside. Don’t let the old man in.”

Another: “Stay close to your friends.”

Layla Donahoe closed her career as a trailblazer for girls wrestling at Dana Hills High School.

Donahoe went further than any girls wrestler in Dana Hills program history. She battled at the state championship tournament and earned a top-16 finish at 160 pounds, the highest finish by a Dolphin girls wrestler. Donahoe won her first-round match by fall, and after losing to the No. 2 seed, Donahoe rebounded with a win by decision in the consolation bracket to secure her historic finish. Donahoe also won a second straight CIF-SS Southern Regional silver and then qualified for state with a seventh-place finish at the CIF-SS championships. Donahoe will continue her academic and wrestling careers at Southwestern Oregon Community College in the fall.

Liam Boersma was the spearhead of a defensive front that led the Dana Hills football team to a record-setting start to the 2019 season. In just the season’s first six games, Boersma broke the school record for sacks in a season. The record was 17 1/2 in 12 games during the 2009 season, but Boersma blasted through with 18 1/2 through the Dolphins’ program-best 6-0 start. He finished the season with 22 sacks, the most in California, according to the MaxPreps national leaderboards. Boersma also led the Dolphins defense with 123 total tackles, 97 solo tackles and 26 assisted tackles. He will continue his academic and football careers at Saddleback College in the fall.

Carrick Denker closed out his Dana Hills High School career by setting a record for the cross country program, which is no small feat. Denker posted a Dolphin record for the 5,000-meter state championship course in Fresno with a time of 14:59. He finished third in that race and paced Dana Hills to second-place silver in CIF State Division II. The Dolphins also qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals, and Denker finished 43rd at the race in Oregon. Denker had an eventful season highlighted by a blood-soaked third-place finish at the Orange County Championships, in which he was inadvertently pushed into a metal post and suffered a deep gash on his left hand that would require 12 stitches. The senior still finished the three-mile course in 14:44. Denker will continue running at UC Berkeley in the fall.

Josh Harkey capped his stellar Dolphin career with some historic championship performances.

Following up his second straight CIF-SS Coastal Division championship and another Coast View Conference championship, Harkey became the first Dana Hills boys wrestling state podium finisher in 13 years. Harkey made a run to the state quarterfinals with two wins by decision and one by fall. After falling in the quarterfinals, Harkey won twice more by decision to advance to the consolation semifinals before losing. As the No. 5 seed in the bracket, Harkey finished fifth in California at 195 pounds. He also finished fourth at CIF-SS Masters to qualify for State. Harkey will continue his academic and wrestling careers at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall.

he past couple of weeks have seen large-scale protests and demonstrations for justice and equality around the United States, and surfers have been participating in their own unique way.

Paddle outs have taken place at beaches around the country, including Doheny Beach in Dana Point, as well as another one that was planned for Wednesday afternoon, June 10, near the San Clemente Pier after this issue went to press. Similar demonstrations have also taken place in L.A., San Diego and New York.

“I didn’t really know anybody in the water, but it was beautiful to share that experience together and reflect on the times we’re in with people that truly care,” said one local surfer who had joined the Doheny paddle out.

The subject of race is obviously a charged one at the moment, and through these various paddle outs, surfing has found its way into the conversation. Volumes could be written on the subject of race and surfing.

It goes all the way back to British explorer Captain James Cook’s first observation of Hawaiians riding waves in

ast week, Wayne Penn Schafer peacefully slipped from this world in his sleep after 91 years of good living.

Schafer had stories. Lots of them. Some of them were covered in this publication, such as his formative days in Capo Beach in the early ’50s, what it was like to rent a room to the great Phil Edwards and how he evolved the Hobie Cat sailboat with his friend Hobie Alter.

But considering how many sunsets the man enjoyed from his house fronting Poche Reef, there are surely more stories to be told.

Schafer’s contributions to sailing alone span decades. In the earliest days of the Hobie Cat, the beach in front of his house became the skunk works for sailers in the area to learn, experiment and develop new designs and techniques.

When the Hobie Cat was at its peak of popularity in the 1970s and ’80s, sailors from around the world traveled to see him and learn from him. His “Wednesdays at Wayne’s” après-sail barbecues were the stuff of legend. He was known to always be able to “find the wind.”

Behind that kind smile and gentle demeanor was an intelligence and understanding of the ways of the world that guided him.

nians who established a base in Moorea, Tahiti around 1960, which would evolve into the world-famous Bali Hai resort.

He also owned property at Zacatitos on the East Cape of Baja, Mexico. And with his father’s Osage heritage, he maintained his headrights in the Osage Nation in Oklahoma.

For the past few weeks, a gathering with Schafer and some of the original Poche Surf Club members had been in the works with the Surfing Heritage and Culture Center. As part of this group, our goal was to document their stories and recollections.

We’d hoped to have a good, old-fashioned talk story session and hear all the tales. It’s a painful lesson in never missing the chance to hear a good story. Sometimes, the opportunity is here and gone before you know it.

Schafer was part of a very small, very influential group of surfers, sailors and ocean lovers who fundamentally changed the game. He never wavered from his dream of living at the beach and was always happy

to bring his friends along for the ride.

A paddle out and memorial is currently being planned for early August, when it’s hopefully a little easier for folks to travel. In

1777, and it’s not something we can take on here in 250 words. But over the past week, I was doing a little reading about Hawaiian surfing icon Duke Kahanamoku.

ased on the footage he just dropped on his Instagram account, Taj Lindblad isn’t really surfing like a grom anymore, but he’s still young at heart, so we’re giving him a nod for the effort this week.

Recently bringing the heat to Waco, Texas and the BSR Surf Resort, Taj’s air game is absolutely on point. He could easily go toe-totoe with any kids his age around the world, no problem. Even the seasoned flyers would have problems keeping up with his youthful vigor. The style, the variety, the amplitude, the “radness”—Taj has it all.

Martin Potter was the first one to start going above the lip at T-Street in the mid ’80s. Christian Fletcher, Shane Beschen and Chris Ward followed suit, each defining their respective generations by what’s possible in the air.

Taj and his kinetic brand of surfing is part of that legacy. Summer’s just getting started, and there are still a lot of waves to be ridden, but we see what you’re doing, Taj, and we’re loving it. DP

Outlook: More South swell fills in on Friday, with surf rising into the shoulder high to 1-2’ overhead range, (4-6-7’). Light winds Friday morning, turn West/southwest 6-8kts in the afternoon. The South swell holds steady on Saturday, as some small Northwest swell joins in, then those swells ease by the end of the weekend, for chest-head high+ waves, (3-5’+) on Sunday. The weekend has light+ southerly winds in the mornings, and a moderate westerly sea breeze in the afternoons.
