City Council to Consider Including Arts and Culture Committee to Include ExOfficio Members

Five things Dana Point should know this week Three Central Orange County Cities Propose Homeless Shelters, with Locations Still Under Wraps THE LATEST: Some 700 homeless people in Orange County could have shelter in Anaheim, Santa Ana and Huntington Beach soon, according to officials at a court hearing on Wednesday, June 13 at Federal Judge David O. Carter’s chambers in the Santa Ana Federal Courthouse.

Representatives that span across Orange County gathered for an update on the status of finding emergency shelters for its homeless, after Carter asked cities from north, central and South County a few weeks ago to propose shelter sites at the June 13 meeting. Officials from Anaheim, Santa Ana and Huntington Beach shared the number of potential shelters and beds to Carter, who was pleased with much of the progress but was still critical of other moving parts—throughout the county— going forward.

Carter asked the cities not to reveal specific locations of the proposed shelter sites to the public, yet.

As for the other cities in Orange County, Carter recessed the open hearing and met behind closed doors with each Orange County area. Dana Point City Manager Mark Denny was one of five South County cities represented.

Other South County city representatives that joined the hearing included those from Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. Representatives from San Clemente or San Juan Capistrano did not attend the hearing.

As for a countywide approach, Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairman Andrew Do shared a “Housing Funding Strategy,” which outlines affordable housing and levels of income in the county. The strategy proposes creating “supportive housing” through county and city funds, via state homeless funding or otherwise.

pitch in funds toward other shelters in the county, as a sort of buy-out option.

Carter emphasized throughout the hearing that he did not want to see any one city or area of the county to bear the brunt of facilitating homeless shelters. Carter also noted that although the concentration of homelessness in bigger, central county cities is higher, there is a significant number of homeless people in South County cities.

Carter mentioned South County beaches, along with areas of San Juan Creek and Del Obispo in San Juan Capistrano, as areas that “homegrown” homeless people currently reside in—adding that he went to these areas himself—and argued that anyone who says there is not a noticeable homeless population in South County is wrong.

WHAT’S NEXT: After meeting with Judge Carter, city managers and mayors are scheduled to meet in the coming weeks to discuss potential South County locations. Meeting Carter’s requirements would allow for continued enforcement of anti-camping ordinances, which could be suspended if adequate shelter needs are not met. Cannons Approved to Become 100-Room Hotel, Restaurant, Café, Spa THE LATEST: On June 11, the Dana Point Planning Commission approved a coastal development permit to demolish the existing Cannons Seafood Grill and construct a new 100-room resort hotel with a restaurant, café, spa and associated parking.

The new five-level structure (including subterranean levels) will be host to 100 hotel rooms, a more than 1,600-square-foot restaurant, a 1,300-square-foot café and an almost 900-square-foot spa.

The new site will be host to 165 parking stalls, which city of Dana Point Director of Community Development Ursula LunaReynosa explained was 29 more stalls than what is required by law.

“Although this new structure will be larger than the existing Cannons Seafood Grill,” Luna-Reynosa said during the meeting, “hotels have a lower turn-over and models show a negligible impact on traffic.”

THE LATEST: On June 5, Mayor Pro Tem Joe Muller recommended the City Council consider an adoption to a resolution to amend the Arts and Culture Commission membership to include ex-officio members.

These ex-officio members would be local experts or professionals in the fields of art, music, cultural programming or other related fields. They would be able to assist the Commission if issues arose that required their particular expertise.

Ex-officio members would not be included in the total to determine the number needed for a quorum and they would not be counted to determine if a quorum was present. Ex-officio members would serve in an advisory capacity and would not be entitled to vote or make motions. The draft resolution allows the City Council to appoint the ex-officio members and determine their roles and responsibilities.

All ex-officio members would serve at the pleasure of the City Council.

OCSD Launches Crime Map, Says It Will Help Residents Track Crime Incidents Better THE LATEST: More than a year after the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) discontinued the narratives that described reported crimes in its blotter, the department has debuted its promised interactive crime map CrimeMapping.

This map also does not have narratives attached to it, just as the blotter policies were amended in June 2017, but it does provide 15 different types of crime as indicated by various icons and when they occurred. People can also customize the map to look for specific crime incidents in their areas.

OCSD at the time said it expected the map to be ready in “the coming months,” but it’s been almost a year to the day since that declaration. “(The map) will have the basic information, and it’s not going to have any narrative to it,” said Jaimee Blashaw, a public affairs manager with OCSD. “We put the (preliminary) calls into the map, but those (incident labels) could change on the map once deputies get on scene” and report the actual incident.

If people want more information on a specific crime incident, they can use the incident number provided in the map post and request a report from the records department, which can be found online.

In November 2015, an incident occurred involving the daughter of an Aliso Viejo director of community development, Karen Crocker. Orange County Superior Court documents show Crocker sued Orange County and a number of individuals for defamation after her daughter was arrested along with her boyfriend on charges of theft and the incident was documented, she alleged, with false information in the blotter.

The blotter entry stated a woman had come to the store where officers had detained her daughter and identified herself as a “high-ranking official” with the city of Aliso Viejo and that she knew her daughter was innocent, “just like all the other times she’d been arrested for similar charges.”

Crocker’s lawsuit complaint stated that the incident was misrepresented, and she stated that she was suspended without pay from the city of Aliso Viejo on Jan. 8, 2016 as a result of the incident. Crocker sued for wrongful termination, initially filing a defamation suit in January 2017 and went to court shortly thereafter. She later amended her complaint on April 25, 2017.

The case was closed in August 2017.

On June 12, 2017, OCSD announced that it would remove narratives from its blotter posts. Although the court records examined by the Dana Point Times did not show that removal of the narratives was part of any settlement between the county and Crocker, sources close to the situation told DP Times that discontinuing the detailed posts was the result of “a lawsuit”—not necessarily Crocker’s.

WHAT’S NEXT: “We’re really trying to get people to be active and participate in this and see the crimes that affect their neighborhood,” Blashaw said. “It might affect change, and if you’re seeing a lot of car burglaries, people may remember to lock

their car and those kinds of actions.”

The blotter entries do not reflect calls that came in immediately; the CrimeMapping software will be updated every 24 hours when OCSD enters the calls or amends calls.

“I hope CrimeMapping encourages the community to take an even more active role in working with us to increase the safety of our neighborhoods,” said Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens in a press release on June 8.

San Clemente Police Chief Lt. Mike Peters echoed the sentiments of the sheriff.

“My hope is that people will glean the information and help them feel like they know more from it,” Peters said. “I hope it at least makes them feel a little safer.”

n June 8, the Dana Point Trolley began its summer circles around Dana Point. Many residents were excited to jump on the trolley to enjoy the summer days after school let out and enjoy ArtFest, which loomed on the horizon.

A seemingly popular transportation vessel, the Dana Point Trolley saw staggering rises in ridership over the last year.

The trolley ridership count total for its first weekend was 2,357 people. That is an increase of 381 passengers, or 19 percent, from opening weekend’s count last year.

Weekend one in 2017 totaled 1,976 riders.

One reason for the increase in ridership on this year’s opening weekend could be the eight new stops on the route.

istrano Beach and up near Dana Hills High School which we are very excited about,” said Matthew Sinacori, director of Public Works for the city of Dana Point. “Plus, it continues our partnerships with adjoining cities. Connections currently exist with Laguna Beach and San Juan Capistrano and we anticipate connections with San Clemente and Laguna Niguel next year as a result of the increased interest.

“The Dana Point Trolley route is all about connectivity,” Sinacori continued.

“Our city staff worked closely with City

Council to review community feedback and in turn responded by expanding the already popular route to reach as many communities as possible.”

Bernie Gladova, of Laguna Niguel, was on the trolley headed north from Capistrano Beach to do his shopping and said he knows that the trolley may take longer, but loves the convenience of running his errands without the stress of traffic.

“I don’t have to worry about parking or traffic,” Gladova said. “I just get to sit here and enjoy the ride.”

the No. 1 worst beach location in the state; not 100 feet north of it, the other Poche Beach testing spot received an A grade.

This northern Poche site, a perennial Beach Bummer, has shown vast improvements over the last few years due to extensive cleaning efforts made by the county.

“Beginning in March 2015, all California agencies that receive state funds for ocean water quality monitoring are required to sample at ‘point zero’ locations, which are beach sites where a stream, creek, river, or storm drain discharge meets the ocean water,” according to the Heal the Bay Beach Bummer explanation, adding that Poche is a point zero site for the Prima Deshecha Cañada channel. “During the summer season, Poche experienced increased shutdown times due to facility repairs, maintenance requirements, and high tide and rain events. Higher sediment discharges into the facility also reduced its treatment efficiency.”

Both of last year’s Orange County Beach Bummers—San Clemente Pier and Monarch Beach North—improved to C grades this summer.

WHAT’S NEXT: Of the 18 testing sites listed for Dana Point, 16 of those beaches listed were rated with an A or A+ rating.

In addition to route changes, the trolley itself has undergone some noticeable alterations and upgrades the city believes will cater to the summertime bustle in Dana Point.

Dana Point has added racks for surfboards and stand-up paddleboards to the five trolleys.

Total cost to the city to install the racks was covered by a grant. Installation included custom surfboard and stand-up paddleboard racks, a trolley hitch and receiver, and assembly and installation for a total of $22,133 for all five trolleys to be outfitted.

In a community such as Dana Point, where recreation on the water is a way of life, city staff believes these racks provide an opportunity to use the trolley to get to the beach with surf equipment in tow.

Eight boards can fit on each trolley, however, boards less than five feet must be taken onto the trolley.

“The city is stoked to offer surfboard racks as part of the trolley program. It’s another way we are working to provide innovative ways for our residents and visitors to get around the city. And it just might save Dana Point moms some trips dropping off or picking up sandy kids and boards at the beach,” said Dana Point City Manager Mark Denny.

Members of WSA-OC targeted their fundraising efforts toward the Caribbean in the wake of Hurricane Irma, the largest Atlantic storm in recorded history. The British Virgin Islands (BVIs) were specifically chosen because of the islands’ large sailing community and the fellowship WSA-OC members feel for the residents who are still struggling to repair and rebuild their devastated communities.

St. Anne Future Problem Solving Team Take First Place on June 5 After a year of research, practice and collaborative teamwork, 46 students from St. Anne School in Laguna Niguel participated in the 34th Annual California Future Problem Solving State Bowl in San Diego. Members of the team will now advance to the International Future Problem Solving Competition at the University of Wisconsin. The Welcome Inn feed takes much, much more from our city than it provides.

In listening to the superintendent of local state parks at Homeless Task Force (HTF) meetings, it was clear that these feeds are a strain on the state beach itself; not to mention on the tourists and locals who love to use Doheny. This feed encourages transients to stay put in town where there isn’t anywhere for them to live except on sidewalks, undeveloped lots, parks or private property.

And then there is the inevitable question of where they relieve themselves. I've heard at a HTF meeting it’s been on the sidewalks at Carls Jr. and other local spots most people reading the Dana Point Times frequent. That's right; human feces by your local drive-thru. The property owner of the shopping center across from the feed reported having spent three times as much in security and sanitation since the previous year and directly relates it to the Welcome Inn feed.

Not providing a free transition home or a homeless shelter with an ocean-view is never a legitimate excuse for using public or private property as free lodging or as a restroom.

At a HTF meeting, Rich Haydon of State Parks gave hard numbers on the exorbitant, increasing costs for trash cleanup from the containers provided by the feed, and the increased car break-ins at Lot 1 (Lot 1 is the closest parking lot to the feed). There was mention that parents paying for the Doheny Junior Lifeguard program had growing concerns with a children's program where transients (which include former felons due to Prop 57) frequent the beach and bathrooms.

There is limited land on the coast, and it's not cheap. We all know that, but it's not relevant to why this feed must only be at Doheny State Beach. Residents can only bear so much burden for a daily, public area feed that is not providing the services these people need; other than a quick-fix handout.

The Welcome Inn continues to abuse our small town’s resources, and is wrongly comfortable with straining and stressing out a lot of good people who live here.

Blowing off the people who shop and support local businesses and restaurants on an ongoing basis is not Christian. It's selective.

Voter turnout in past elections has dipped from 62.3 percent of eligible citizens voting in 2008 to an estimated 57.5 percent in 2012; continuing to drop to an estimated 55.3 percent in 2016, according to bipartisanpolicy.org. In general, lower turnouts are most likely related to voter disenchantment, indifference or contentment.

Well, look in the mirror, because it does not matter whether you are Democratic, Republican or Independent, we are all inherently at fault to some extent.

You’re a Republican, so you vote a straight Republican ticket, or you’re a Democrat, so you vote a straight Democratic ticket. Maybe a family member, your pastor, or your boss tells you how to vote, while many just do not bother to vote. In terms of household participation in presidential debates, Nielsen TV household ratings show “a drop from 59.5 percent of the first debate in 1960 to 39.9 percent for the first debate in 2012.”

We were a Democratic Republic at one time — of the people, by the people, for the people. We have lost our Republic because we have failed as a nation to fulfill our responsibilities to each other. As a result, our nation has become divided, and white nationalism and fascism are on the rise.

If we are going to defeat this threat, skin color, ethnicity, sex or gender, or religious beliefs should be unimportant to us in choosing a candidate. The one exception is the hard-core religious extremist.

Beware of them.

The important criteria to base your decision on are the prospective candidates character, knowledge of the position they seek, respect for the Constitution and rule of law, and respect for all, regardless of the color of their skin, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation gender, gender identity, education, disability, immigration status, homelessness or religious beliefs.

Just as important as the above, is whether in the vetting process, you are convinced the candidate will work for the benefit of all, not just the billionaires and corporate elite, or their own agenda, at the expense of the poor, middle-class and disabled. In other words, will they work to ensure equality under color of law for both citizens and non-citizens, in accordance with the Constitution and rule of law?

Perhaps if we all did a better job of vetting those we vote for in order to insure they stand and support the above criteria we’d be better off. And if, or when, we make a mistake and vote for the wrong person, we don’t keep reelecting him or her. If we set the bar high enough for both ourselves and our candidate of choice, we might just reclaim our Democratic Republic.

ext restaurant up—that’s how swiftly Thai Dara 2 came into the old location of Little Thai Hut just a couple of months ago.

Thai Dara has already established itself as a formidable Thai restaurant in Dana Point, and its sequel in San Clemente has not disappointed.

That said, when trying a place that has just opened, sometimes it’s best to go with what you know and venture into something a little more interesting next time (I’ll be back, spicy shrimp and scallops).

This week, a hearty sampling of the orange peel chicken was in order. No surprises: the outer shells were crispy but easy to penetrate, as the zesty encapsulation gave way to the steamy chicken.

the mountain of chicken was consumed only to the base before having to rest for dinner and try for the summit later.

At the Movies: ‘Ocean’s 8’ is for Those Who Just Want Fun

I

hate the term “mindless fun.” I think it’s an insult to audiences’ intelligence and a cheap phrase for studios to use to market mediocre blockbusters. Movies like A Quiet Place and Hereditary don’t doubt how smart their viewers are and have done well critically and financially. On the week Hereditary opened, Warner Bros. released their mildly anticipated, gender-swapped sequel, Ocean’s 8.

In an era with forgettable, phoned-in, “mindless” remakes, was anyone really checking for another Ocean’s flick?

Debra Ocean (Sandra Bullock) is released from a five-year prison stint for theft and fraud with an elaborate plan to steal the most expensive necklace in the world. Her scheme involves old friend and fellow criminal Lou (Cate Blanchett), has-been fashion designer Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter), profiteer Tammy (Sarah Paulson),

jewelry maker Amita (Mindy Kaling), pick-pocket Constance (Awkwafina) and a hacker who goes by “EightBall” (Rihanna). They’re conspiring to snatch the necklace at The Met Gala while starlet Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) is wearing it.

Ocean’s 8 is directed by Gary Ross, who’s had an interesting career starting with Big (1988) and Pleasantville (1998), to adapting The Hunger Games (2012).

Now, I guess he’s directing a handful of Oscar-nominated actresses in a goofy heist comedy. Outside of Debra being Danny Ocean’s sister and a couple of cameos, there’s barely a connection to the previous films. The movie is legitimately mindless fun, although not in an entirely asinine way. I don’t think anyone involved with the production was planning on award nominations or the like. So, if you’re just looking for something to do with a date or friends, Ocean’s 8 could be for you. Walk this Way Hundreds gather on Del Prado for growing art walk

n June 10, Del Prado Avenue was lined with nearly 100 artists as well as a number of live music performers for the first of Dana Point’s twiceannual ArtFest.

In addition to the number of talented local painters, sculptors, designers and more, Thomas Clark, a performance artist known for his live artwork displays where he connects music with the visual arts, was painting live on Del Prado during the event.

Live music performances were abundant, located in the post office parking lot on Del Prado Avenue. Alyssa Walker, of the OC British Invaders band, and Dana Point Arts and Culture Committee Commissioner Anthony Small, performed live under the cloudless sky.

Many residents and visitors stopped in one, or several, of the beer gardens that littered the length of the streets with live music and special menus of their own.

Jack’s Restaurant and Bar, Luxe Restaurant and World Famous Martini Bar and The Shwack Beach Grill all hosted beer gardens where patrons could enjoy a cold one in the shade.

The Dana Point ArtFest continues to show growth, reporting a steady increase in both vendors and attendance. This twice-annual event generally occurs once in the late spring and again in the early fall.

he sunshine has broken through and brought warmer temperatures. With warmer temperatures comes nice water and better fishing at Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching.

In his weekly report, Captain Brian Woolley said water temperatures from 6566 degrees along the beach have “flipped the switch” on calico bass fishing.

For the half-day trips, there’s been successful bass fishing above and below the harbor. Woolley said that flylined live baits have worked best and suggests anglers come with a selection of hooks to line sardines and anchovies.

Woolley also said there is free kids fishing on Sundays. Dana Wharf offers a free half-hour kids clinic at noon followed by a free kids fishing trip at 12:45 p.m.

The three-quarter day trips have gotten out of the rockfish and come toward the

hree former Dana Hills baseball players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft on June 5 and 6.

First up was Jay Schuyler out of the University of San Diego. Schuyler, a junior catcher and outfielder with the Toreros, was selected in the seventh round by the Cincinnati Reds on June 5. Schuyler signed with the Reds on June 12.

Schuyler graduated from Dana Hills in 2015 and is the Dolphins’ career doubles leader with 35. He is also third on Dana Hills, all-time hits list with 91 and fourth on the all-time RBI list with 62.

In his 2015 senior season, Schuyler led the Dolphins with 31 RBIs, which is thethird-most in a single season. Schuyler hit for a .327 average that season with highschool career highs of 25 runs, 33 hits and four home runs.

This season, Schuyler started all 55 games for USD and led the team in batting average, hits, runs and total bases.

The next Dolphin drafted was Zach Wolf out of Seattle University. Wolf, a

junior right-handed pitcher with the Redhawks, was selected in the 18th round by the Miami Marlins on June 6. Wolf signed with the Marlins on June 11.

Wolf also graduated from Dana Hills in 2015. Schuyler and Wolf are the third and fourth 2015 class members to sign MLB contracts following Luke Williams with the Philadelphia Phillies and Peter Maris with the Tampa Bay Rays.

In his senior season at Dana Hills, Wolf went 4-2 on the mound and was second on the team with a 1.51 earned run average and third on team with 36 strikeouts.

Wolf is Seattle U’s all-time leader in saves with 27, including 10 saves with a 4-1 record this season.

The third Dolphin selected was David Clawson out of Brigham Young University.

Clawson, a sophomore catcher for BYU, was selected in the 37th round by the Los Angeles Angels on June 6.

Clawson graduated from Dana Hills in 2016, and this isn’t his first go-around with the draft. Clawson was selected in the 34th round by the New York Yankees in 2016 but chose not to sign and attend BYU. In his senior season, Clawson led the team in plate appearances and at-bats and was second in runs and RBI. Clawson also caught Hans Crouse’s no-hitter against Tesoro that season. Crouse was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the second round of the 2017 draft. DP

Championship Week Is Here NSSA Nationals, USA Surfing Championship land on local beaches this week

or America’s top amateur surfers, the next week in South Orange County could mean the world. With the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) and USA Surfing both holding their annual championships in the area, there’s plenty of reasons to fire it up for our local rising stars.

From June 16-18, the NSSA National Interscholastic Championships will take place at Salt Creek. This competition will feature the country’s top middle school, high school and college teams battle it out to determine who really is, in the words of the Beach Boys, true to their school. Shortly thereafter, the NSSA will head up to Huntington Beach for the National Championships for the open, explorer and airshow divisions.

“We have competitors coming from 11 conferences across the nation, Barbados and Puerto Rico. The conferences are: Southwest, Gold Coast, Northwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast/ North, Southeast, Florida Gulf, Hawaii, Barbados and Puerto Rico,” said NSSA Director Janice Aragon. “Every year, the level of these young surfers is through the roof. This year’s class is no different.

As far as local talent goes, there will be plenty of hometown heroes vying for the top spot on the podium.

“San Clemente’s Kade Matson is a very skilled, hardworking and seasoned young surfer. His surfing has tons of power.

Although he has come close, he has never won a national title,” Aragon said. “He has earned many conference and regional titles throughout his competitive years and just claimed back-to-back West Coast Regionals Open Juniors titles a couple of weeks ago. I have no doubt Kade will kick it into overdrive to try and sweep double titles this year. He’ll be competing in both the open juniors and stepping up in age category to the premier open mens division. I would see him as a top contender in both divisions.

And it always seems there are a red-hot crew of groms from San Clemente. Hayden Rodgers and Kade’s brother Dane just came off of winning performances at the West Coast Regionals a couple of weeks ago.”

But competing in the NSSA Nationals requires more than just a solid top turn and competent air game. An important aspect of the NSSA program is that it also requires the surfers to perform academically.

“The NSSA requires that all of its competitors are students carrying a minimum 2.0 GPA in order to compete,” Aragon said.

“We also put out an annual list of surfer/ scholars who are members of the organization and achieve a 3.5 GPA or above.

We present a special award annually at the National Championships to the NSSA Surfer/Scholar of the Year. For 2018, this honor goes to San Clemente resident Nolan Rodgers who earned a 4.45 GPA from Capistrano Connections Academy.”

Once the spray settles at Salt Creek and

the south side of the Huntington pier, it will be time to direct attention to Lower Trestles for the upcoming USA Surfing Championship. The contest will run from June 15-20 and will not only crown new national champions, but also give us a glimpse of the development of the U.S. national surf program as it starts to ramp up for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

On Wednesday, June 20 (finals day), there will be a special Expression Session featuring “Olympians vs. Olympic Hopefuls.”

Top pros such as Kolohe Andino, Griffin Colapinto, Courtney Conlogue and Caroline Marks will be on hand to showcase their talents. Gold medalist snowboarders Red Gerard, Kyle Mack and Lindsey Jacobellis will also be there, as will water polo gold medalist and surfer Kaleigh Gilchrist, along with Winter and Summer Paralympic gold medalist Alana Nichols.

“It’s been an amazing year, and we’re really proud of the progress all of the surfers and competitors have made. It takes a lot of work and dedication to compete at this level and that deserves a lot of respect and admiration,” USA Surfing President Greg Cruse said. “The Olympic movement is moving forward, and we’re really excited about everything that’s coming up. We’ve seen the impact that the Olympics has had on snowboarding for athletes like Red Gerard, and to elevate the sport of surfing in the same way, it’s just a really exciting time for the sport and we wouldn’t be here without the commitment of so many amazing young athletes.”

According to Surfline.com, it looks like there’s plenty of fun-sized southwest swell on tap for the next 10 days. The conditions for both the NSSA Nationals and the USA Surfing Championship should be ideal, so head down to the beach and support your favorite groms. After all, they are the future. DP

“Getting long waves with good turns inspires me because it makes me feel good and makes me want to go back the next day,” Bodhi said after being asked what fires him up about riding waves. “Surfing with my friends inspires me…and I always want to see a whale out in the water.”

The next-gen San Clemente ripper first got on the board at the ripe old age of 3 when his pop taught him to surf at San Onofre. These days you’ll probably find him shredding the inside wedges at Lowers.

“I look up to John John Florence because he does good airs and layback snaps,” Bodhi said. “I also look up to my dad because when he does turns, he drifts sometimes and it looks really cool. I really look up to Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith, Yadin Nicol—I’m going to ask Yadin if he will teach me to do airs—all of the San Clemente shredders, like Kolohe Andino, the Colapintos, all of the Gudauskas brothers.

I also look up to my little sister, Sunshine, because she tries really hard and is always smiling and having fun when she surfs.”

Bodhi’s froth level is high, as is his appreciation for the ocean in which he rides.

“I wish people would not litter and keep the ocean and Earth clean, so we can keep surfing,” Bodhi said. DP
