_03 SOCIAL MEDIA + BLOGGING TIPS Social Media can be daunting to implement as a new business. As an experienced Social Media early adopter, Dana can help you understand which medium will be a good use for your business. For WaterWise GardenCenter, we recommend use of Instagram and Pinterest as the photos lend well to the type of audience there.
Insta-Hashtagging: #succulentsunday (6,029 posts) #waterwise (2,247 posts) #ranchopalosverdes (7,981 posts) #californiadrought (6,012 posts) #goinggreen (50,181) Other Hashtags! #thenameoftheplant #southbay #hermosabeach #redondobeach #droughtfriendly Up and coming: #waterwiseplant (29 posts)
Following locals who are interested in gardening, love California, and who tend to show pictures of flowers and plants help identify your target audience and will help you show them you are interested in their favorite things. It is vital for a business to not act spammy or show consistent ads for the business. Grow your followers by sharing common interests and if someone likes your photo, go onto their Instagram and like a couple of theirs, too!
Pinterest, Houzz, Yelp!, and Facebook are sites that can also be of help to growing a garden business. Adding the photos to your own website and then “Pinning” the photos to Pinterest will create a link back to your site. If someone who is into gardening and succulents clicks on a photo on Pinterest, the photo will take them directly to your site.
Instagram and Pinterest are EASILY managed from a cell phone or tablet. Blogging and Twitter are much highermaintenance social media tasks that can either be outsourced or added on as you grow and are able to delegate many of your other business-tasks. Social media is often outsourced or delegated last.
Timing is important on social media posts. Replying within 24-hours is considered to be a “long time” online. Consider having several team members connected to your social media accounts and signing posts and replies with their own name. It will create a sense of teamwork and show your clients that Gardening is an area many hands are involved where many people are in the project. interested, but don’t know how to get started. Newsletters, specials and small workshops are great ways to engage the community.
SAFE STORAGE OF YOUR IMAGES
_04
Storage - A minimum of THREE locations are recommended for safe storage of your images. Hard Copy (CD) + Cloud Copy (i.e. Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive) + Local Machine (Hard Drive) Ideally, you’ll want your images ready for use wherever you are. Cloud-based storage is a great way to store your photos in “the cloud” and have the ability to access them wherever you are. It is an easy method of transfer to share the images with the vendors you may use for print work. Your images will be available digitally through Dana Thompson for a period of 90-days. During this time, it is imperative you establish all three of the storage backup methods for long-term archiving of your photography work. Assistance is free if you need advice or direction during this period to find a permanent and safe location for your photos. After 90-days, assistance is available at the rate of $75 per 30-minutes of technical assistance. If you do not yet have a Dropbox account, you can easily set up a FREE account by clicking this link here or by visiting dropbox.com.
