Foreign Currency In some of the bigger and more touristic bars, restaurants and shops, payment in Euro, British Pounds or Dollars is accepted. Language The official language is of course Czech, a very beautiful, yet quite difficult to learn Slavic language. Telephone Country code: +420. There is no area code, because it is already included in every local telephone number.
TourisT Traps Like every other city in the world, there are certain things which visitors must look out for, and also certain things that prove to be very annoying. Check out the text below: Exchanging Money - Never exchange money from people on the streets. These people are constantly trying to con travellers with outrageous rates and counterfeit money. Also be careful when changing your money in exchange offices and find out exactly how much you are getting before you pass your money over. Some can be rip-offs. We thoroughly recommend that you use the Alfa Exchange Office and you can see more details about their service on the next page. 4
post The Main Post Office is located at Jindřišká 14, Prague 1 and is open every day from 02.00-24.00.Web: www.cpost.cz. Tipping The general consensus, and indeed it has also been our strategy since we have been here is to leave a 10% tip. Emergency free phone numbers 150 - Fire Department 155 - Medical Emergency 156 - City Police 158 - Police Operators speak mostly Czech, so better to ask someone to explain your problem instead of you talking to them directly. pharmacy A pharmacy, which is available around the clock, can be found by calling: +420 224 946 982. Address: Palackého 720/5, Praha 1. pickpocketing: This is one of Prague's most common crimes. Don't underestimate Prague pickpockets and don't think you can outsmart them. Many of them are highly skilled "professionals". Never leave your wallet lying free on a table or anywhere else. Best to keep it in a closed pocket. over-priced bills: Some places view foreign customers as easy prey for a rip-off. They may add a 20% commission on your bill for no reason at all, or can also add a service charge which they invent themselves and it can be as high as 40%. Always check your bill and ask if you have a question about it.

The Castle Of All Castles Prague castle
Hradčany, 119 08 Prague 1. Tel.: +420 224 373 368 Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) is the most visited attraction in the city. The Castle was most likely founded around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty (Přemyslovci). According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m². A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from Roman-style buildings from the 10th century through to Gothic modifications in the 14th century. The castle has three courtyards and really is huge, so allow yourself at least a few hours when visiting and if you want to explore it in depth, a couple of days may be needed. Since its creation, the castle transformed itself from a wooden fortress surrounded by earthen bulwarks to the imposing form it has today. It is the castle where the Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept there. Buildings and gardens inside the palace include: The Chapel of the Holy Cross (Kaple sv. Kříže); The Spanish Hall (Španělský sál); St Vitus Cathedral (Katedrála Sv. Chocolate has stimulated our taste for centuries: From the spicy drink of the Mayas and the Aztecs to the favourite sweet chocolate that we know at present. Three out of four Europeans love chocolate; therefore the fascination of the unique experience brought by chocolate is unique. People often ask: "Where does chocolate come from?", "How did it get to Europe?", "What is the secret of excellent chocolate?", "Why was chocolate used as medicine?" The chocolate museum Choco Story Prague answers these questions and many others by reviving the 2,600-year-old history of chocolate in words, pictures and tastes. In the museum you will be absorbed by the exciting world of chocolate and using all your senses you will be travelling in time. It will be a pleasure not only for your eyes, but also for the nose and the mouth. The museum is divided into three parts. EATING OUT
T
Food For Thought
raditional Czech food is not exactly what one would call healthy or dietary, however it goes perfectly with Czech beer and there some really delicious dishes. The cuisine has been influenced by the cuisines of surrounding countries, and is marked by a strong emphasis on meat dishes. Pork is probably the most popular meat, while beef and chicken are also common. Goose, duck, rabbit and wild game are also served in several restaurants. Fish isn’t so popular with the locals, with the exception of fresh trout and carp, which is traditionally served at Christmas. As a side-dish, boiled and sliced dumplings are one of the mainstays of Czech cuisine and are quite often served with meals. Among the most popular Czech dishes are: Roast pork with dumplings and Sauerkraut (pečené vepřové s knedlíky a se zelím); 20
Marinated beef sirloin (svíčková na smetaně) which comrpises of pickled roast beef, served with a cream topping and a teaspoon of cranberry compote; traditional beef goulash, even though it basically belongs to traditional Hungarian cuisine. There are countless traditional Czech restaurants in Prague and many of them are ran and sponsored by some of the large beer breweries. Some are excellent and some only average. Visitors should also keep an eye out for the lunch specials (normally served between 12 and 3pm) provided by such restaurants as they tend to be much cheaper. If the Czech dishes don’t tickle your fancy, there is no need to worry, because Prague boasts some top quality international restaurants, some of which have been featured in the pages which follow. Every restaurant featured has been visited by us at least twice to ensure you get reliable information. In association with:

e all know the name, we all love what they offer. Thank God it is available every day in Prague! T.G.I. Friday's mission has always been to combine casual dining with a fun atmosphere. They are committed to restaurants featuring delicious food, original drinks, and unique flair. With T.G.I. it's always Friday! Visits to foreign countries can always hold certain fears and anxieties and sometimes it's just comforting to know exactly what you are getting. Sometimes a familiar sight can be a relief. Sometimes, it’s just good to know that there is a T.G.I. Friday’s closeby. Having visited several T.G.I. Friday´s throughout Europe, we can safely say that all have left different impressions on us - and we can safely say that the impression made by the three Prague outlets was positive and memorable. 30
In Prague they offer something different, whether it be through their wonderful theme nights and parties, or through the quality of the food and service, or through the various special offers they present. Trust us, you won't be disappointed. And please keep an eye out for the previously mentioned theme nights. In the past we have attended events such as Ladies Night and Mojito Madness, both of which were funfilled and exciting. The credo of T.G.I. Friday's is to treat every customer as they would an honoured guest in their home, and it's no different in the Czech capital as the hand-picked staff go out of their way to ensure your visit is a memorable one. They offer all the renowned favourites such as dishes from the Jack Daniels grill, legendary burgers and scrumptious appetizers. The cocktails in the Prague branches are also superb!

Health & Wellness
ith so much to see and do, and so many routes to walk, Prague is a city that can be draining both physically and mentally, so its fitting that the Czech capital has an excellent health and wellness scene. You will no doubt notice the huge number of Massage parlours in the city centre. Quantity does not always equal quality and we are happy to reccomend the Tantra Space Studio for those who are in need of losing their aches and pains or hold a need to feel relaxed. The city also offers various health spas where guests can comfort themselves with jacuzzi-whirlpools, steam rooms, saunas and various other devices. The city and indeed the country is also famed for its professional but extremely cheap dental services, and countless English-speaking 40
dentists can be found online. The ladies may also be interested in manicures and pedicures and once again, the standard in Prague is at a high level, and the prices are most likely cheaper than what you would find at home. The same can be said for hair-dressers. If total relaxation is what you are after, then a trip outside Prague may be what you need, because the country is renowned for its natural spring wells and healing waters. The most famous of these places outside the capital is Karlova Vary which lies in West Bohemia at the confluence of the Teplå River and the Ohře River. It boasts centuries-proven thermal baths and drinking cures as well as modern methods of cryotherapy, floating, laser therapy, etc.

The City’s Best Cafes & Bars
s there another country in the world which is more fond of beer ? If there is, we have yet to visit it! Beer to the Czechs is like milk to a baby – They simply love it, and the country boasts the highest beer consumption per capita in the world This love affair has its advantages for tourists to Prague, because visitors can choose from a huge number of different beers, most of which are delicious, and most of which are extremely friendly on the wallet. Some of the most popular beers include: Pilsner Urquell, Krusovice, Bernard, Staropramen, Budweiser Budvar and Velvet. Beer in the Czech Republic (Czech: pivo) has a long and important history. The first brewery is known to have existed in 1118. The city of Brno had the right to brew beer from the 12th century, and the two cities most associated with Czech beer, Plzeň and České Budějovice had breweries in the 13th century. Much of the brewing history in Prague is connected to the various monasteries in the city, with brewing first recorded at the 42
Benedictine Břevnov Monastery in 993AD. Today the Prague brewing scene is dominated by Staropramen, although there are several smaller breweries, the oldest being U Fleků, which was founded in 1499. Since the 1990s various brewpubs have been established in the city. However, beer is not the only drink which is renowned in The Czech Republic. Becherovka is their most popular liquor. It has been around since the 19th century and is made of forty types of herbs since 19th century. It can be drunk on its own, but is also often used for cocktails, Slivovice is a plum brandy (also comes in other flavours), and is quite strong, so be careful how much you drink. The country also produces some excellent wines from the south Moravia region. Since the tourism boom in Prague, there is no shortage of places to try out these beverages, and in the pages which follow, we look at some of our favourite cafes and bars. Trust us, there is something for everyone. In association with:
