THRIVE BEYOND YOUR TRIBE Our wounded warriors often feel disconnected from their families and community and struggle to find purpose in their lives. With the help of our innovative, warm services, most learn to recognize and manage their trauma, many times converting it to Post Traumatic Growth. We help build new tribes, reconnect with old families in healthy ways, immersed in a supportive community, and discovering new purposes in life. If you're a veteran dealing with trauma, we're here to help. Our services include listening, therapy, support groups, community everywhere you turn, and clinical resources for recognizing and managing trauma in ways that you maybe have never heard of.

For generations, men and women have returned from military service unwilling or unable to talk about their experiences. The constant stress and strain of service or battle leaves them with tangible, genuine scars, physical and emotional. It's often these invisible wounds and the stigma they still carry that make it difficult for Veterans to seek care and healing. Our initial goal is not to press them to reveal or relive those experiences, but to help them understand the impact of their trauma and begin to heal.

ABOVE AND BEYOND FAMILY RECOVERY CENTER began as an idea in

one man's mind that took root like a remarkable and vibrant flower amid a barren landscape on the West Side of Chicago. We have become an oasis to the invisible, the ignored, and the uninsured alcoholics and addicts of Chicago.

We will grow into a monument to the power of a selfless idea built on hope and delivered with deeply compassionate competence.

Today, Above and Beyond is one of the nation's only outpatient treatment centers that offers a Vestibule format, educating clients about various treatment options and support groups, allowing them to choose the best option based on their journey to recovery.

A WORD ABOUT TRAUMA After more than two decades of waging the global war on terror, Traumatic Brain Injury and Post—Traumatic Stress Disorder - TBI and PTSD, became the signature wounds of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

Thankfully, the U.S. Military and the VA are now more attentive to both forms of trauma inflicted by the enemy.

Sadly, military leadership is less attentive to another egregious form of trauma known as MST (Military Sexual Trauma). Often, MST affecting both female and male service members is overlooked or covered up. The ripple effect of this unthinkable betrayal of dignity and respect is carried long after service. AnB is keenly aware of the lingering impact of this type of trauma. Our compassionate team offers the professional care required to begin the healing process.

WHO WE ARE

We are an educated team with deep roots and lived experience who keep our compassionate hearts and minds fresh through a unique self-care program that identifies and debilitates second-hand trauma. This enables us to counter the dysfunction of our patients with consistent love and optimism.

WHAT WE DO

We offer six self-help services (AA, SMART Recovery, Women and Men for Sobriety, Recovery Dharma, and WRAP). We assess for co-occurring psychological disorders so that we can address the problem(s) along with the symptoms. We help our patients uncover their meaning, love themselves, and set realistic goals.

HOW WE DO IT

Most of our groups are interlaced with REBT, Unconditional Self-Acceptance (USA) principles, and therapeutic methodologies for uncovering personal meaning and purpose in our patients’ lives. As well we offer intensive Outpatient counseling, Brainspotting, job readiness coaching, housing-first assistance, stress yoga, acupuncture, rage reduction, alone-liness alleviation, trans-generational trauma, and many other unique trauma-specific groups. All forms of gender expression are welcome.
