The project “ bulge is a community center located in North Hollywood. Amenities include; a cafe, library, workshop and a research lab. The takes on the concept of bulging as a materiality condition and integrates this with the architectural system of the building. Moments where the architectural system is being operated is when the form bulges. Intensity and different types of systems create different forms of bulging. The interior of the building is formed by a large ramp that escalates through the levels of the buildings, the ramps bulge underneath for support and to create the path a circulating up. These bulges create spaces which can be occupied. The large formal move is the valley that cuts from the north east to south west, based on the areas wind data. The valley creates a passive wind system.

ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The form and shape of the building is derivited from the environmetnal analysis. The site sits on the corner of the street, which recieves a lot of sun during the summer and cold winds during the winter. The drawings explore different typlogy and building system that can address these environmental problems for the project.

PROJECT CONCEPT The building explores the concept of bulging through large, medium and small scale interventions. The concept of bulging occurs in the moments of the slab where the surface bulges in order to create ramps to provide circulation through the building. They also occur in individual zones. the integration between architecture and systems happens at these moments, whether at the ramp or a stationary zone, the perimeter of the bulge has radiant panels that heat or cool the space depending on the situation

02 bulging ramps
the concept combines the water colleciton & filteration system, with a sloped design.
the ramp bulges underneath creating multiple supports and levels. at each of these moments the rain water is collected and pass through the steel drainage for futher filteration.
03 filtration system in each of the bulges there is a filtration system that separates the remaining debris and trash, allow only liquid to be filtered through to the subterranean tank.
