High Tech Park : Augmented Reality In pubic spaces 2018 / Academic Project Architectural Design Thesis Studio Instructor: Jason Rebillot
summary Today, I feel that many public spaces are designed to be looked at, but not touch or engaged with. The spaces are clean, tidy, but empty. I feel that there is a clear disengagement between public spaces and the technology generation that we currently live in. A lot of the designs of public spaces in my opinion are outdated and engage with an audience that has not grown up surrounded by technology. At Venice beach, California a city that historically has pushed the boundaries of what’s considered acceptable in society with its music and surf culture. Today Venice beach is a part of a larger tech hub in Southern California known as Silicon Beach, big companies such as Google and Snap chat hold headquarters in the region and so there is a new demographic moving into the area. The project recognizes this new audience in Venice and will look at reenergizing the Venice beach boardwalk park by introducing augmented reality into the space. The park will be converted into an urban square in which users are able to engage and create different types of atmospheres using augmented reality.

VENICE BEACH - AUGMENTED PARK The project looks at revamping the existing conditions of the park by creating a new environment for which augmented reality can operate. The thesis project will transform the Venice Park into a high tech environment, where augmented reality installations can plug in and operate.
