Building Bronzeville Lakefront In this Studio we explored different visions of a home for the 21st Century, the new workplace, and elements of an equitable and just community in Chicago. Urban density is assumed to be valued if balanced by humanistic environments that emphasize health and wellbeing. Tangible design measures for wellness is developed integral to a more sustainable and resilient world. High performance comes from an understanding and integration of related disciplines, research, and science. During the design process, rigorous tectonics and craftsmanship lead to clear design intent and expression.

Rendering The Turégano House This course is an in-depth exploration of new visualization techniques to support and express architectural design through 3D rendering. Topics include 3D modeling, cameras, lighting, material mapping and rendering output in Autodesk 3ds Max and model linking workflows between 3ds Max and other modeling platforms. Presentation concepts include rendering style and image compositions. I chose to work on the Turégano House designed by Alberto Campo Baeza in 1988 and located in Madrid, Spain.

Construction II: 30 low cost government funding housing The objective of this project was to acquire the basic knowledge of the construction process and how to apply them to an Execution Project. We focused on building construction, land movement and containment, foundation, structure, facade, and roofing. The goals were four: to resolve in detail the construction solutions proposed to respond to the established requirements, to apply the principles of construction for concrete solutions in Architecture, to correctly represent the constructive system and details graphically, and to develop personal criteria. My partner and I proposed a building system based on concrete honeycomb slabs combined with steel beams and pillars. For the outer layer, we used an ETICS-type façade system with a stone cladding.

The Limits Of The Urban: Inhabitating Soria We travel to Soria, a city paradigm of what is known as “The Wallowing of the Emptied.” The goal is to put on the game board the need for climate change in the territory model and correct the de-generated by obsolete and decompensated models focusing on territorial, cultural, and economic perspectives. The project takes place in the eastern edge of Soria, Spain, on the banks of the Duero river, between the hill of a castle and the hill of the Miró Hotel. The objective is to focus on the limits of the urban and the concept of inhabiting the city. The objective of this exercise is to develop a new solution type or housing. We developed a residential project combining a residence building for students or seniors, a hotel, and multi-family housing.

Pillars and platforms establish a system that develops as a tapestry parallel to the hillside to alter the topography as little as possible. Several multi-function patios are opened on the platforms. They allow light to enter the lower levels, house vegetation contributing to the humidification of spaces, and enhance diagonal visions increasing spatial continuity between levels.

Through a system of platforms at different levels, five islands are created to close the void generated between the Hill of the Mirón and the hill of the castle. The arrangement of the islands responds to bioclimatic questions such as the sun, winds, or slope, as well as the views that occur from each of them in its relationship with the river and the city of Soria.

Architectural Design II: Three scales, three landscapes This course focused on the relationship between architecture and landscape. Three exercises were proposed at three different scales on Menorca island. 01. Walkway in a protected natural area: the objective was to propose a light walkway that fulfilled several functions at the same time: allow the access to the beach, preserve the native flora of the dune area and constitute a privileged place for the views. It’s a small-scale exercise in the coastal landscape. This project had to be thought as a light construction in wood, with a consecutive repetition of parts and a very strong geometric system. The situation parallel or perpendicular to the beach had to be decided by us personally. 02. Tapestry of patio houses: the objective was to design holiday homes focusing on the idea of temporary housing with the programmatic and spatial freedom that is entailed. It is an medium scale exercise in an area farther from the coast on a terrain with a slight slope and overlooking to the sea. This project considered individual housing without forgetting about the collectiveness of the project as a whole. It had to be understood as a tapestry on the natural landscape. Several aspects had to be taken into account: the geometric systems used, the extension of the tapestry, the density and position of the filled and empty spaces... All in all, the approach to a complex section. 03. Thermal baths will be designed in the interior of Menorca. It is a large scale project and will therefore be arranged in the interior landscape, in an steeper area and far from the fragile coast. It’s a spacial exercise. The goal was to reflect the relationship between water and architecture; the spatial and subtractive system, the relationship with the light and the possibility or not of opening up to the surrounding landscape.

Urbanism I: Urban analysis This course was thought as a first contact with the multiple and complex dimensions of city and territory production, studying the following aspects: the social, economic and political factors that condition and run the city, the interaction of these factors with the functional structure and configuration of the pre-existing city, the ways in which these processes decline into a new city project and a specific urban morphology, the role that urban planning techniques play in regulating these processes and projects, and how they, in turn, are determined by them. Organized by groups, students had to conduct a SWOT analysis extracting the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of one of the districts of Madrid: the Moncloa-Aravaca district.

Con esta información se observará posteriormente que zonas tienen mayor densidad de población, ya que casi todos los edificios son residenciales, algunos con bajos comerciales; zonas sin edificios (de ocio, zonas verdes, etc), y otros datos como barrios de chalets adosados, bloques de pisos, etc.
