Project 3: Expressive Type Daniel Herzberg Copy, Explode, Balloon

Step 1: Sketches When first introduced to the project, I chose three words from our approved set list. The three words I chose were balloon, copy, and explode. Once I chose those words, I started doodling each of the words to find what came to mind first. These images are periods during my doodling session that shows the beginning of each expression. Throughout the revision process in class, my sketches became more thought out and rounded. I focused on the shape of the letter as opposed to the composition of the image as a whole.

Final Designs The following are final designs for each word. Explode is used to create movement from the middle of the word outward as if the word itself was exploding. Balloon was created by using the top loop in the B as the actual balloon. The following letters were created to act as the string. I decided to take a more literal meaning when creating copy. I played with the figure-ground relationship and copied the word over and over. This gave the viewer a clear idea of what the word was while investigating other design principles.
