ACADEMIC RESEARCH: Touching History: Slovenia and the Veneto
Associate Professor Nancy Sanders | Professor Robert MacLeod | Assistant Professor Paul Robinson
Summer 2012 | Ljubljana, Slovenia | University of Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture
This studio focused on the study and application of thoughtfully placing a contemporary piece of architecture within a historical context. The goal while visiting Ljubljana was to understand the complex physical layers of an assigned site through historical research, day-to-day observation and analytical mappings. Collected data was then translated into a meaningful design strategy that reflected the sites needs and potential. The six week residency in Ljubljana was supplemented by weekend trips to the near by countries of Italy and Switzerland – where the juxtaposition and melding of contemporary and historical projects were studied at numerous noteworthy projects.
Detail-Making: a studio dedicated to five pieces of furniture
Adjunct Professor Giancarlo Guisti Spring 2013 | Tampa, Florida | University of South Florida
The importance of connections between two materials was applied to five full scale furniture design assignments: a picture frame, lamp, table, chair and a re-purposed object. The exploration of details was centered around steel, concrete, wood, glass and fabric. Exploration of these materials was completed in a metal shop, wood shop or by outsourcing to local companies for more complex fabrications. Shop drawings of each project were required to explain the fabrication of each object.
The Bartlett Development Planning Unit Summer Lab: Localizing Legacies
Adjunct Professor Josue Robles Caraballo | Artist Alberto Duman | Teaching Fellow William Hunter Fall 2013 | London, England | University College London
An emphasis on a grass roots approach to community research is what highlighted this studios difference from the traditional architectural design studio. The research concentrated on touring the 2012 London Olympic grounds and receiving numerous lectures from community members effected by the initial construction, hosting and post development of the summer games. The Hackney Borough experienced a large scale displacement of an existing communities, rapid gentrification and a subsequent change in it's identity. A two day design charrette combined individual and group thoughts with the goal of sketching-out a small scale intervention or policy driven scheme to promote growth within a fractured community. The ideas of multiple groups were presented at a community work space in the Hackney borough following our accelerated work period. All studies and findings were also tied into a semester long design assignment at the University of South Florida during the Advance Design B studio course. The finished collection of work from summer lab and the USF studio was published by The Bartlett DPU and can be found in the publications section of this document.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Undergraduate Teaching Assistant: Introduction to Design and Graphics Associate Professor Nancy Sanders | spring 2012 This course asked students to understand basic design concepts and craft in 2D and 3D drawings and abstract model constructs. I provided individual desk critiques and led group critiques twice weekly. I also had a presence after class hours to aid students if they needed help. This was an aspect of the "Teaching Methods" course produced by Robert MacLeod, which also contained a discussion between all teaching assistants once a week about architectural pedagogy.
Graduate Teaching Assistant: Architectural Design Theory
Adjunct Professor Krystyna Sznurkowski | fall 2012 The course covered various classical and contemporary design theory readings at a pace of one new text per week. I guided student discussion groups weekly to facilitate understanding of course readings and graded midterm and final papers, marking students papers on needed corrections and clarifications.
AFFILIATIONS: Architecture College Council: President + Vice President
Fall 2012 - Summer 2013
The keystone event during my involvement with the ACC was the organization and implementation of Foreign Speculations – a collection of student design work completed during study abroad studios in both Slovenia and Amsterdam in the summer of 2012. The gallery was located at the Marshall Student Union Centre Gallery in September 2012 for two weeks. Throughout the year, I along with the ACC were instrumental in organizing student events and often supplied food for various occasions within club budget.
University of South Florida Bowling Club
Fall 2008 - Spring 2009 One of the top three averaging players on the varsity team. I was nominated equipment manager to oversee ball maintenance and selection for tournament play. This originated from four years experience of high school bowling and traveling to state and national youth bowling tournaments. During my time on the team we were awarded a spot to compete in a national collegiate tournament in Las Vegas.

INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE: Ryan Construction Summer 2008 | Tampa, FL
40 hours a week. Observed pre-construction and construction procedures for two sites locally. Helped oversee safety and tracked site progress.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Built: Design and Fabrication
September 2015 - September 2016 | Tampa, FL | www.builtthings.com Built is a Tampa based design and fabrication shop focused on using the best materials possible to
give the client a quality and lasting product that fits their needs. I was in charge of translating the lead designers project proposals into drawings for in-house wood and metal shop craftsmen to use during the fabrication process. On necessary projects I would produce and execute CNC files required for the job. Projects consisted of custom tables, chairs, shelving units, cabinets and doors for a variety of commercial and residential projects.
