WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) The three elementary types of developable surfaces are cylinders, cones and tangent surfaces of space curves. They have sepcial ruled surfaces as the tangent plane is tangent to the surface along the entire ruling and not just a single point. Developable surfaces also contains only parabolic surface points or flat points.
Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) The understanding of developable surfaces is critical as there are limitations in building planar sheets of papers since they are unstrectchable. For instance, the concept of developable surface are incorporated into performance design of ‘ California’. where dancers engaged directly with the architectural piece on stage where it is transformable since the design is unfolded into individual segments.

3D PANEL TEST PROTOTYPE & TEMPLATE
My first test of unrolling surfaces was unsuccessful as there were non- joining surfaces however i manage to solve this issue by triangulating all surfaces for the modules.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital fabriation is the process of using of computer-aided design technologies in digital design and constructive processes which narrows the gap between representation and building. While two- dimensional represnetation have evolved from analog to digital, digital fabrication has allowed drawings to be made effiicient, easy to edit and simple to do. Although It replaces buildings with a parallel rule and a lead pointer, it is still similar in terms of its visual appearance.
Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) Firstly, folding is used extensively as it is materially economical, visually appealing and effective in multiple scales. For instance, folding turns a flat surface into a three dimensional one. Secondly, folding has great characteristics in terms of construction as it allows materials to gain stiffness and rigidity, self- supporting and can span distance.

EXPLORING 3D PANELLING
Exploration of my 3D panelling varies from pyramids to differrent types of triangular pattern.
7
UNROLL TEMPLATE OF YOUR FINAL MODEL
These are the templates for my three different variation of modules.

PANELISED LANDSCAPE
The geometry- triangle, is the only geometry that i have used in building my modules. My inspiration also came from Federation square, where one triangle is divided into multiple triangles, establishing a rather sophisticated outlook of the building. While for my design, the concept is from scarcity to abundancy where i manipulate the sizes of my triangle cuts, creating an overall contrast from lower part to the upper part of this of art.

APPENDIX 1
12
After the designing part of modules in rhino, i started to use commands such as pt triangulate faces, join , unroll surfaces, explode and make 2D, a repetition process for each module.
APPENDIX 2
These are the processes that i have been through while building each module from pasting, cutting, folding and scoring to building and securing each module together with Uhu glue.
13
APPENDIX 3
Lastly, I arranged each module according to their respective positions, using bull nose clips and a strong Uhu glue, i merged every module together and wait through the drying process, and finally- the completion of building my modules.
