Brief 10 Peter & Paul
1 Brief
The Brief
Collaboration
To design a piece of semi permanent artwork to live in two spaces in the Graphic Design department. The piece can be anything so long as it lives on these two walls. Anything goes - illustration, typography, photography or installation. This has to be something people look at every day so it has to have aesthetic value, be practical to fit into the budget and communicate an idea.
I worked with Sarah Goldthorpe for this project, as we both have a strong work ethic, have similar interests when it comes to design as well get on really well with each other - I wanted to work with her before we graduated.

2 Concept
There is more to life than graphic design
There Is More To Life Than Graphic Design Often designers become too caught up in their work and the world of graphic design, ignoring what is around them. Observing life and having other interests not only improves happiness and balance, but informs design work by being able to solve daily problems with more understanding and have more knowledge of the world. It is easy to forget this, especially in this working environment, so this concept aims to remind people of this and show them what else life has to offer.

Visual Research There is a strong industrial aesthetic in the college with exposed, raw materials such as the neon lighting and exposed heating system. We wanted to reflect this to match the environment as well as combine it with type and image to appeal to both types of designers. We achieved this through use of colour, style of design and materials proposed.

Illustration Wall This is the design that I created for the upstairs wall. It would be made up of iconography inspired by neon signage to represent the neon lighting that is present in the space as well as brighten up the corridor and attract attention. The icons themselves would represent things aside from graphic design that you can do and draw inspiration from. These would be decided based on the students hobbies and interests.
