PERSONAL STATEMENT
............................................................................................................................................................................. My name is Dan, I am a soon to be B. Design (Honours) - Architectural Studies of QUT and am looking to further my academic progression by applying for MArch at that same university soon. Apart from my technical talent; my vibrant enthusiasm, pro-social approach and contribution, and support to any team, would improve any firm culture and allow me to maintain a professional standard. I also have a background in graphic design, which I believe to be a strong asset for architectural design development and presentation. I have a strong passion for what I do and therefore always put a lot of time and attention into it. I see myself as a perfectionist, and whilst some may view that trait as a negative, I see it as a strength. In terms of design, I believe in ensuring a memorable experience for the user to take with them once they leave a space; making sure that they will want to return. The success of design is not measured by design critics but rather those engaging the space and the amount of foot traffic it produces.

circulation flow. 5. Central green space spreads outwards – intimate public zones. 6. Building is bridge between people and government.
A center of democracy, designed as a reflection of the intricacy that exists in a machine, composing of the finest details that build and build until they reach a functioning being as a whole. Situated in the center of Brisbane CBD’s government HUB, the building acts as a response to high pedestrian traffic flow, unconnected urban scenes and a messy urban government center that entertains Brisbane’s lack of green and public space. general form of the building is derived from an archaic modernism approach to the traditional greenhouse. Taking the concept of enclosed green space, the building uniquely pushes it beyond its traditional enclosure and sets to find a balance between public and private, social and intimate. The buildings program provides a range of mixed use, open plan spaces that provide complexity through simple and clean design. With spaces ranging from adaptable exhibition areas to bookable teaching rooms, the 3 leveled program effectively integrates private and public spaces, allowing the workers and visitors the opportunity to co-exists whilst also being given the space they need for their specific tasks. The materialistic quality of the building is aimed to mirror Utilitarian design, which simply seeks to find beauty in raw and structural materials that are often underrepresented in a modern age of cliché architectural habits. Essentially this building celebrates simplicity in the sense that good design isn’t achieved when there is nothing more that can be added but when nothing more can be taken away. It aims to show the benefit of letting simple materials, spaces and experiences speak for themselves within modern day built form.

Facade and Services “An architectural model represents something that is still on its way, that it is still open for changes, additions, modifications, subtraction, and so forth means that there is room for dreaming.” “By creating physical models we can better discover the many layers of an object and we can better understand the challenges of proper craftsmanship which in the end can lead to results of high quality. This process can only happen when the haptic perception gets stimulated.” A simple rule: No more than two materials. To further explore Utilitarian design and try to express beauty from what is normally considered raw. To further appreciate construction techniques. To gain an understanding of the difficulties that surround concrete work. To experience the effect of contrast between a dominant form and a lightweight one. And above all, to create an object that even without any functional purpose, is attractive. 14

CAMINAR 123 - 2026 MULTI RESIDENTIAL
CAMINAR 123 year
November 2013
place
123 Cavendish Road, Coorparoo
Walkability, connectivity, comfort, convenience, social interaction and sustainable urban living are the concepts that have driven the design, form and realisation of Caminar 123 housing. Based in 2026, the building addresses a need for connecting spaces in Coorparoo and provides a urban center point 3 minutes walk from all surrounding transportation and shopping. As such, the form follows a concept of ‘door to door’ living, allowing for walkability from an occupants work to their dwelling. Open plan living and urban spaces help create large levels of ventilation and comfort, whilst intimate green spacing areas facilitate social interaction. Based of predicted 2026-2050 trends, smaller apartments (1-2 bed) feature heavily to cater to students and yound professionals, whilst larger scale apartments feature for young families. Caminar 123 breaks down the concept of a traditional backyard fence; creating a possibility for communal greenspacing, terraced walk-able living and a sense of personal interaction unmatched by the common Australian multi residential building 16

GRAPHIC DESIGN WORK FRCST DESIGN
For the past 2 years I have worked as a freelance Graphic designer under the business name of FRCST Design. Over this time I have had the opportunity to work for a range of clients in the fields of identity branding, web design, app design, illustration and print layout. While my true passion is Architecture, I have a great love for all things design, and as such take a large amount of pride in my graphic work and find it to be incredibly enjoyable, rewarding and fulfilling. Further to this, Graphic design and architectural design seem to work hand in hand, so I saw it natural to work to better my skills and gain a better understanding of it; a process which I believe never stops. My philosophy towards graphic work follows from Albert Einstein’s words: “Everything should be made as simple as possible. But not simpler. “
