September signals the end of summer and beginning of fall - the days are shorter, the air is crisper and cooler, perfect for attending high school and college games or having family and friends over for a bon fire and making smores.

September is beginning of a busy autumn season for the agency. This month spotlights three important awareness initiatives at C&A - Suicide Prevention month, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) month and Client Appreciation Week. Suicide Prevention C&A will feature information on our website in regards to suicide awareness including local and national hotline and crisis text numbers. The agency will also post information on social media channels. Please consider sharing the agency's posts with your followers.

FASD C&A will feature information on our website to prevent FASD as well as the cause and effect of drinking while pregnant. During the month of September, the agency will also make social media posts available for you to share on social media channels. Client Appreciation Week Client Appreciation Week is Sept. 19-25. This year, clients will have the opportunity to write a positive message on leaf-shaped sticky notes about therapy and place them on the tree clings in each office. The leaf notepads will arrive the week of Sept. 14. Distribution will be Sept. 16. Please consider following our campaigns on the agency's social media channels and have a safe and fun autumn season. Best,

Joe French CEO

Program Spotlight Trauma Informed Day Treatment Program Overview: Trauma Informed Day Treatment (TIDTx) is a program of Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health's (C&A) that integrates mental health and educational interventions. This therapeutic environment provides a continuum of services designed to assess, treat and reduce severe emotional and/or behavioral disturbances in youth who have experienced trauma.

TIDTx program is appropriate for youth who have been assessed across many areas of their lives (home, school, community, social and personal) and have been determined to have a severe emotional and/or behavioral disturbance which requires intensive, therapeutic intervention. Youth receive individual, family, group and milieu therapy based on needs identified in the comprehensive trauma assessment. Our treatment environment offers youth the opportunity to learn and rehearse behavioral change while receiving guidance, supportive feedback and reinforcement in a physically and emotionally safe setting. This promtes the development of effective self regulation, problem-solving, coping and socialization skills. Based on mental health needs and family interest, psychiatric services and case management are additional services that may be accessed at C&A.

Criteria

• Trauma history

• Enrolled in K through 12th grades

• Residents of Stark County primarily served • IQ of 70 or above

• Primary presenting concerns are emotional and/or behavioral disturbances

Trauma Informed Day Treatment Goals • To keep youth in the community with their “family”.

• To improve overall functioning at home, in school, in the community and interpersonally. • To reduce the need for residential treatment.

School Spotlight: Massillon City Schools Mental Health Initiatives Legacy Project Mentoring

At The Legacy Project of Stark, we know that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our founding in 2015, we have been determined to make an impact. The core of our efforts is to bring our team’s fresh ideas and passion to the range of activities in which we are involved. We meet with middle school students on their turf. We have lunch with them at their school, provide community events, and offer a summer program where students can connect with one another as well as spend valuable time with their mentors.
