Project 1: The Emotional Project C U LT U R E S H O C K
Culture Shock For the Emotional Project, I chose to do culture shock as it is an emotion that has left an impact on my life since migrating to the US after living in the Philippines for 13 years. I decided to make my project as literal as possible by making a wall plug, with prongs in the shape of lightning bolts to symbolize the “shock.
Materials: Acrylic on wood, rubber cord, twist tie, paperboard box
From personal experience, I can say that culture shock comes in small packages. It is an emotion that comes in small waves, but hit you like a tide.
Project 2: The Cosmetic Project E F F E R V E S C E N T: S PA R K L E A N D P O P
Effervescent For the Cosmetic Project, I centered my fragrance around the concept of a girl boss. Aimed at young adults, specifically aged 18-24, Effer vescent offers a confidence sparkling from within. Effer vescent’s brand identity is inspired by the word “effer vescent” which means sparkling or bubbly.
Materials: Clear resin, gold sequins, gold leaf foil, bristol paper, gold embossing glitter, foamboard
Both the packaging and perfume bottle have “Effer vescent embossed in gold, offering another texture to the surface.
The overall premise of Effer vescent and its branding is to entice clients and encourage them to “pop” out of their comfort zones and be confident with the way they “sparkle”. The packaging illustrates a circular pattern to symbolize the bubbly context of the word “effer vescent”, while the perfume bottle emulates the sparkly connotation of said word.
Project 3: The Beverage Project A R O A M : L E T Y O U R TA S T E B U D S WA N D E R
In collaboration with Ashlie Baptiste, Yogita Jhingan, and Yunnan Xu (Emma)
Aroam offers four types of black tea (Tulsi, Assam, Honey Jasmine Hibiscus, and Chai) inspired by the different cultures of my team. We assembled the tea collection together, each of us focusing on certain aspects of the brand that highlighted each of our skills. I took charge of the brand identity.
Materials: Bristol paper, printer paper, athenian sheer cloth, staple wire, embroidery thread
To split the workload evenly, we each took charge of a type of tea. I focused on assembling the packaging of the Assam tea, creating a box that came with a sleeve around it to ensure protection, security, and freshness.
Project 4: The Makeover Project T R A D E R J O E ’ S B U T T E R M I L K PA N C A K E M I X
Unlike the original packaging, this packaging offers a modernized appearance, using richer colors and sleeker typography, to preser ve the old-fashioned yet timeless buttermilk pancakes.
Materials: Matte poster paper
To go with the illustrative branding of Trader Joe’s, this makeover features a vectorized illustration of a tall stack of pancakes, with syrup dripping down the sides to attract customers.
This makeover includes a cleaner layout for the recipes. To contrast with the clean-cut rectangles, the headers are placed in flowy banner-like shapes, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall packaging.
