Finding Inner Peace When Life Seems Unbearable By Aletheia Luna
H
AVING A NERVOUS breakdown was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Before reaching the absolute end of my stress threshold, I never thought that finding inner peace – especially for a highly sensitive person prone to anxiety – was possible. In fact, the concept was so alien to me that the words “stillness” and “serenity” weren’t even in my personal dictionary. Peace was a completely foreign concept to me. But if you’re at the same place that I was a few years ago, you’ll realize that something in your life must absolutely change. You’ll realize that there is no way in hell you can continue down the same path you’ve gone, that is, unless you don’t want to enjoy the rest of your life! And you will come to understand, eventually, that the tension, pain, sadness, stress and dread that you feel right now are catalysts of change in your life. This change is the impetus you need to grow more and live better.
Finding Inner Peace Among Turmoil Demand, pressure, aggression, betrayal, disappointment, maltreatment, unwelcomed surprises … life is unpredictable and oftentimes chaotic. Here are nine things I’ve learned about finding inner peace in an insane world:
1. Expecting that life and people should be different. Here’s the truth: you can expect, and expect, and expect, and expect … but what

ful,” etc. Notice the prevalence of the word “should” here.

2. Holding on to grudges and resentments
happens at the end of the day? You feel worn out, resentful, bitter, stressed and hopeless. What a waste of time, energy and effort! When I realized how much of my unhappiness stemmed from expectations, I was astounded. And hear this: our expectations are usually unconscious, in other words, we aren’t aware that we are demanding so much from other people and life itself. Why are expectations burdensome? Expectations change nothing at all: they are like brain farts. Can you change other people? No. That’s just life. Solution: Would you prefer to resist the truth of this present moment, or would you prefer to become a lover of reality? Try to pinpoint what lofty and unrealistic expectations you have for other people. Here are some examples, “My husband should spend more time with me like he did when we were first married,” “My boss should care more about my feelings,” “My friend should not be such a loud-mouth; I wish she could be different,” “I should be more success-
Grudges + resentments = self-righteousness … and feeling righteously indignant is extremely ADDICTIVE in a toxic way. When we obsessively store away past wrongdoings from others we are essentially telling ourselves, “I have the right to be angry at this person. I have a right to distance and separate myself from them. I have a right to perpetuate my own misery.” But on your deathbed will you really care about who is right and who is wrong? Holding on to grudges is not only infantile, it is also poorly spent time focusing on the details of life. Solution: Visualizations and rituals can help you to let go of past hurt and start a fresh chapter in life. For instance, you may like to write down what someone did to you on a piece of paper. Once you are done, burn that piece of paper until it crumbles to ash. This is a powerful way to symbolize “letting go.” Alternatively, you may like to focus on cultivating forgiveness by focusing on how to forgive yourself first: http://lonerwolf.com/forgiveness-sainthood/.
3. Choosing NOT to experience your emotions
None of us like feeling uncomfortable emotions, and so it’s very common for us to suppress or avoid them. Unfortunately this creates emotional repression. Here’s the thing: hiding your feelings isn’t the same as dealing with them. Just because your feelings temporarily disappear doesn’t mean that they are completely gone. In fact the longer you suppress your feelings the bigger they grow. Solution: Choose to consciously sit with your emotions without resistance or judgment. If judgments come, let them rise and fall away. While it may be very difficult at first to experience your emotions, you will thank yourself sincerely in the long run. Note: remember to find a quiet place to do this and breathe deeply.
4. Getting lost in the past or future Time travel isn’t real, honey, or at least, not in my world! The reality is that the past and future don’t exist in this present moment; all that exists right now is NOW. While this does make sense to most people, most of us don’t take it to heart. By getting lost in past regrets or future fears we completely lose touch with the grounded present moment. Inevitably this = heartache, tension and overload … the stuff nervous breakdowns are made of! Solution: Use your emotions as triggers, or alternatively use the uncomfortable sensations in your body as wake-up calls to ground yourself. Is your heart racing? Take that as a sign that you are drifting off into the world of your mind. Use these grounding techniques to

AVE YOU EVER wondered why PMS is so common among women today? What about why it so often comes with additional symptoms and disorders like PCOS, endometriosis, IBS, ovarian cysts and depression? There is a very simple truth behind these complicated and often debilitating issues: the liver. Stagnation and lack of proper energy flow in the liver is at the root of almost all reproductive, gastrointestinal, and even emotional conditions. And thanks to Traditional Chinese Medicine, we can all be on the road to healing.
The Complete Explanation & Solution To
PMS, Reproductive & Stomach Disorders, Depression & More symptoms as clues to a bigger issue. Let’s think about PMS. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? The emotional roller coaster, of course! Women can often tell when we’re about to get our periods because we get moody and unpredictable.
Emotions = The Liver
Why Are We In Pain If It’s A Natural Part Of Life? PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) is just what the name implies – a syndrome. It’s a disorder, meaning out of order/out of the ordinary. So why does everyone seem to have at least some of the symptoms? Our bodies were created to perfection; we literally have the power to regenerate and heal ourselves. There are no mistakes here. We wouldn’t have a period in the first place if it was meant to hurt us. After all, periods are the reason women live longer than men! We lose old, stagnant blood every month so that our incredible bodies can replace it with fresh, clean blood to nourish our organs. It’s a time of renewal where we’re connected to the feminine energy of the moon, where we shed what we no longer need and start fresh. In fact, we actually menstruate according to nature and the moon – some women cycle with the new moon, and others with the full. There are no coincidences! We shouldn’t have to suffer through this time of regeneration, and the truth is that we
never have to again. Every symptom that your body produces is a signal. Every ache and pain is a trail of clues that leads you to a root cause if you figure out how to follow the patterns. Symptoms are not meant to be muffled with pain relievers and Midol. Symptoms are meant to be observed and thanked, because your body is telling you exactly what you need to do in order to get well.
Following The Symptom Trail Chinese Medicine offers such amazing explanations for illness because it does exactly what I mentioned: it uses your
Whether it’s depression, anxiety, sadness, PMS, PMDD, or even bipolar disorder, it’s related to the liver in TCM. The liver is the seat of emotion, especially irritability and anger. When the liver is healthy, the liver meridian naturally balances your mental state and releases suppressed emotions via your flow of Qi/energy (also known as life force). The fact that depression, frustration, irritability and anger are major symptoms of PMS leaves us the clue that disharmony in the liver is to blame. Let’s look at the other symptoms that come with difficult periods: n Cravings, particularly for sweets/ carbs/salt n Water retention n Fatigue n Diarrhea/Constipation n Abdominal bloating n Breast swelling + tenderness n Headaches n Insomnia n Sore throat
n Nausea n Menstrual irregularity n Painful menstruation Each and every one of these symptoms can be explained by Chinese medicine, and will be traced back to the liver below.
The Liver & The Flow of Qi Qi is the ‘prana,’ energy, or ‘life force’ that flows through our organs each day and keeps us alive. When the Qi is free flowing, we have a healthy body with no issues. When it’s not free flowing, we have a problem. This means that whenever there is an issue, no matter what it is, the Qi is somehow blocked and there is an underlying imbalance in one of your organs/meridians. The basic energetic imbalance that causes PMS and reproductive/emotional disorders is Liver Qi Stagnation. In Chinese medicine, the liver is responsible for “spreading the Qi” throughout the body and maintaining its smooth and unobstructed flow. This implies that the right energy arrives at the right place at the right time. The chart displayed at right depicts the “Chinese Body Clock.” At 2 hour intervals all day and night, our Qi moves into different organs of the body to do its active

Life Choice Kava Kava: The Original By Dr. Eldon Dahl
K
AVA KAVA HAS an interesting history. It has been safely consumed ceremonially in the South Pacific and other parts of the world. The earliest European knowledge of Kava dates back to the late 1700s, with the journeys of Captain Cook. Today, usage of Kava beverages in tropical climates is similar to the use of alcoholic beverages in the West. However, the plant from which the beverage is made also has useful properties for anxiety, hyperactivity, stress, and restlessness. In 2001, the FDA investigated alleged Kava Kava-related liver toxicity; the following year, Health Canada, among others, banned preparations containing Kava. Interestingly, these issues only became known when it became a consumer product. Here’s why: 1. The plant cultivar – Traditionally used cultivars are expensive to import; therefore suppliers were using cultivars that had no history of safe use. 2. The part of the plant – Traditionally the rhizome was used, with no hepatotoxic side effects; suppliers were using aerial parts as well. 3. The age of the plant – The kava should be 5 years old before harvesting; suppliers were using very young plants. Unlicensed Kava is still classified by Health Canada as high risk, and selling unlicensed kava possesses several liability risks for both suppliers and retailers, as well as the safety risk for consumers. For three and half years, Life Choice fought Health Canada’s
decision banning Kava Kava and was successful in March 2012 to legally introduce their Kava Kava back onto the Canadian market. Life Choice Kava became the first Kava product in Canada to receive a Natural Product Number license from Health Canada. All Kava products being sold in Canada today are in a direct response of Life Choice pioneering for the consumer’s rights to purchase the product without discrimination and to remove the negative stigma associated with lesser quality Kava. When true five year noble Kava roots are used, the product is perfectly safe and very effective for treating anxiety and stress. Sadly, just licensing the product does not guarantee that all Kava products are using the top quality material; the consumers will decide on what quality they purchase, now that they are given the freedom of choice. Life Choice Kava uses the proper plant parts of the highest quality: 5 year noble roots grown in Vanuatu--even the Medicine Hunter visits the growing sites where Life Choice purchases their raw material to ensure an effective, safe, therapeutic product.

The Power of Intention By Brandon West
W
HAT IS THE power of intention? Moreover, what does it mean to connect to the power of intention? In this article we will not explore what intention is exactly, because I don’t believe anybody can really know that. However, we can most definitely use intention and experience it directly for ourselves, which is what you will gain from reading this article. Carlos Castaneda described intention as follows based off of the description his teacher, Don Juan, gave him: “He said that in the universe there is an immeasurable, indescribable force which sorcerers call intent, and that absolutely everything that exists in the entire cosmos is attached to intent by a connecting link. Sorcerers, or warriors, as he called them, were concerned with discussing, understanding, and employing the connecting link. They were especially concerned with cleaning it of the numbing effects brought about by the ordinary concerns of their everyday lives.” (The Power of Silence, p.12) In essence intention is another name for universal consciousness, or for the infinitely dense field of energy (vacuum energy) from which all of creation arises. Intention is another name for the impersonal and infinite universal force that is intending all of creation into being simultaneously, including us, and maintaining that creation. In the exact same way that we can intend an image into our imagination and then maintain it there, I believe this is precisely what creation is, but on a universal scale. So what does it mean for us to use the power of intention, to connect to intention, and to live with intention?
Connecting to Intention, and Intending Reality into Being I deeply resonate with Don Juan’s other description of what it means to use intention and to actually intend something, which helped me to greatly clear up my understanding of using this force which we connect to. In essence he described intending something as: silently willing something into being. Not thinking something into being, but silently willing something into being
which is a specific energetic state. It is a state not characterized primarily by thought, but by a powerful feeling and a state of being where from your inner silence radiates a powerful knowing and energetic connection or bond with this future reality you are focusing on. Until we have reached that specific state, we have intended nothing. Nor have we connected to the universal power of intention. In order to become a dreamer, Don Juan advised Carlos Castaneda in this way: Don Juan: How can you convince yourself you are a dreamer when you know you are not? Intending is both: the act of convincing yourself you are indeed a dreamer, although you have never dreamt before, and the act of being convinced. Castaneda: Do you mean I have to tell myself I am a dreamer and try my best to believe it? Is that it? Don Juan: Intending is much simpler and, at the same time, infinitely more complex than that. It requires imagination, discipline, and purpose. In this case, to intend means that you get an unquestionable bodily knowledge that you are a dreamer. You feel you are a dreamer with all the cells of your body. (The Art of Dreaming, p.26) Don Juan advised Carlos Castaneda to do this in order to become a dreamer, but in reality we can use this same concept to become anything that we desire and are called to become. In essence you want to arrive at an unquestionable certainty that what you are intending is your reality, and that you already are what you desire to be. And it is this which I believe to be the essence of ‘silently willing’ or in other words, intending. But how do you arrive at this unquestionable bodily knowledge or feeling? Is it something that can be cultivated? The answer to that question is repetition, and learning how to discipline our imagination, and emotions through repetition and diligent practice. Repetition, Repetition, Repetition We are not as fixed as we have been led to believe. Biologically or in terms of our personality and potential, in every
sense of the word. We all have magnificent potential, but in order to reach that potential we must change. For if we did not need to change, then we would already be living and expressing our highest potential. We must change our thoughts, emotions, beliefs and habits that are in essence our personality. Don Juan admonished Carlos Castaneda: “…not merely to think about what he had told me but to turn his concepts into a viable way of life by a process of repetition. He claimed that everything new in our lives … must be repeated to us to the point of exhaustion before we open ourselves to it. He pointed out that repetition is the way our progenitors socialized us to function in the daily world.” (The Art of Dreaming, p.34) Repetition is the manner in which we have learned almost every skill that today we take for granted: from language, to motor function. Through repetition we retrain literally our state of being which transforms us into a new person, and thus our life transforms because it is only a reflection of our state of being. Achieve this by training yourself to assume the powerful feeling and “unquestionable bodily knowledge that you are” whatever you desire to be. While this requires enormous effort, it does not need to be a difficult or daunting task because if we can learn to love this self-discipline we will become truly powerful. For this type of work not only leads to personal transformation, but towards consciousness evolution as well. Many of us have tried to change our thoughts or to create new habits, or to manifest, and have failed, but that does not mean this process doesn’t work. It only means that we didn’t do it properly. It only means that we did not repeat the new state of being and bodily feeling of our intention to ourselves tirelessly until we were able to “turn these concepts into a viable way of life.” We must inform the field and our subconscious mind (which are the same thing) tirelessly of our intentions until we resonate on the deepest possible level with the idea that has inspired us to ban-
ish all doubt and all incongruity within us. Then we will start to open up to and embody the power of intention.
Internal Congruence and the Power of Intention “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.” The quote above is an invitation for us to transform our lives and ourselves by actively doing things differently. In truth we should really re-direct all of the energy we dedicate to changing our external reality towards changing, or at least refining and honing our internal world because our external realities (our lives) are literally a projection of our inner world. In other words, we must redeploy our energy towards changing our internal reality: our inner image, and our emotions. Imagination is an important component to using the power of intention, but one that I will cover later because I feel that mastering the practice of silently willing and feeling is more important. Emotion supersedes thought therefore if we can change our emotions, literally how we consistently feel, then our thoughts will change naturally to conform with that shift in emotional state. Internal congruity is absolutely essential, and in many ways it is the key to living with intention and using the power of intention in our lives. Internal congruity arises when our thoughts are aligned with our heart (our emotions and our feelings), and when our actions are then aligned with our thoughts. And when our actions are aligned with our thoughts, and when our thoughts are aligned with our hearts, then we are aligned with the universe because our heart center is our connecting link with spirit, with intention. The universal force of intention is an unfathomable and impersonal consciousness and intelligence, but fundamentally it is energy. It is infinite energy. Therefore it is love. So when we align with love, and with passion, and with our inner truth – all those energies of the highest frequency – then we

HERE’S NOTHING I get asked about more as a parent than unschooling, and nothing I recommend more to other parents. It’s an educational philosophy that provides for more freedom than any other learning method, and prepares kids for an uncertain and rapidly changing future better than anything else I know. My wife and I unschool four of our kids, and have been for several years. And yet, as powerful as I believe unschooling to be, I’ve never written about it, because the truth is, I certainly don’t have all the answers. No one does. The beauty of unschooling is in the search for the answers. If anyone had all the answers, there would be no search. And so what I’d love to teach unschooling parents and kids is that the search is the joy of it all. But I’m getting ahead of myself: what is unschooling? Why should you do it? How do you do it? What should you read? We’ll talk about all that today.
What is Unschooling? First, it’s a form of homeschooling. But there’s no easy answer to that except in comparison to regular schooling. There’s no one-way to do unschooling, and people who do it often do it for many different reasons in many different ways. However, this is how I describe it — in contrast to school: n While school has classes with subjects, unschooling doesn’t. n While school has goals set by teachers and the school system, the unschooler (the kid) set his or her own goals. n While in school, knowledge is handed down from the teacher to the student; in unschooling the student is empowered to learn
Page 6
The Beginner’s Guide to
Unschooling for himself. n While school has specific books or sets of learning materials, unschoolers can learn from anything — books they find, things on the Internet, siblings or parents, the outdoors, museums, people working in interesting fields, anything. n While school is structured, unschooling is like jazz. It’s done on the fly, changing as the student changes. n While students in school learn to follow instructions, unschoolers learn to think for themselves and make their own decisions. n While students in school are asked to learn at pace arbitrarily set by administrators, unschoolers learn at their own pace. n While in school, learning happens in the classroom at certain times, in unschooling learning happens all the time, and there is no division between learning and life. Let me emphasize that for a minute: in unschooling, life itself is learning. There is no “doing school” … you are learning all the time. Unschoolers learn just like you or I learn as adults: based on what interests them, figuring out how to learn it on their own, changing as they change, using whatever resources and learning materials they find, driven by curiosity and practical application rather than because someone says it’s important. This is how I learn as a self-employed writer, as an entrepreneur, as a parent. It’s how
our children will learn when they’re adults. Why not have them learn like that now?
Why Unschool? Let’s think about what school is about: preparing kids for jobs (and life) in the future … a future that’s probably a decade or more away. Now think about a decade or more of change: how many of us predicted 13 years ago what life would be like today? Did we know about the economic recession, or the changing job market, or the fact that things like smartphones and iPads and ebook readers would be so widespread? And that’s just the start. If we can’t predict what our kids’ future will be like, how can we decide today what they should be learning to prepare for that future? We’re preparing them for today’s jobs, not tomorrow’s jobs. School teaches kids a set of facts and skills that they might not need in the future. Unschooling takes a different approach: kids learn how to learn, how to teach themselves. If you know how to learn and how to teach yourself, then you are prepared for any future. If in the future the things we know are obsolete, then the person who knows how to learn anything will be ready to learn whatever is in use in the future. The person who only knows how to learn from a teacher will need a teacher to teach him.
More reasons to unschool: n It’s how entrepreneurs learn. Schools prepare kids to follow instructions, like good employees, while entrepreneurs take charge of what they need to know and make decisions for themselves, navigate through uncharted waters. Unschooling prepares kids to be entrepreneurs instead of robots. n It’s much more natural. The school system is a fairly modern invention, and isn’t how humans have learned for the majority of our history. Unschooling is the learning method used for most of human history — used by people like Leonardo Da Vinci, Leo Tolstoy, Mozart, Einstein and Benjamin Franklin. n It’s freer. The structure of school is good for people who like decisions made for them, but if you like making your own decisions, and figuring out things based on current needs, you will want more freedom. n We learn with the kids. While in school, many parents are removed from the learning process, and ask the teachers to take responsibility for their kids’ education, with unschooling you learn with your kids. The most important learning I’ve been doing is learning about learning. We figure out, together, how people learn, what’s the best way to learn, for each kid. n Learning is unlimited. In school, learning is limited to the classroom and homework time. Then kids believe they stop learning and they can go play and live life — as if learning is boring and they only do it because they’re forced to. But unschoolers learn that learning happens all day long, every day, no matter what you’re doing. If you’re not studying a textbook, does that mean you’re not learning? Can’t you learn from playing games, going for a hike, talking to strangers? How about from figuring out how to cook dinner, or fix a broken faucet, or make a fort? Learning is all

REATHING IS AN unconscious yet ever so vital part of daily life. Very few of us take the time to consider our own breathing patterns. Even physicians in allopathic medicine, me included, pay little attention to respiratory rate unless it is affecting our pH levels or mental status. Our respiratory rate is determined by how many breaths we take in one minute. Increasing our respiratory rates is a natural response to stress and anxiety. This increases our oxygen while decreasing carbon dioxide in preparation for an emergency escape from something like a wild animal, per se. Evolutionarily speaking, hyperventilation is an important life saving feature for us because we need more oxygen when running! Unfortunately, in today’s undue stress, many people now breathe 15-20 times/ minute rather than the normal 8-12 breaths/minute that is recorded in medical literature. This is unnatural and if continued chronically, can change our pH as well as internal cellular activities. Scientifically, this means that we end up losing too much C02, thus reducing body oxygenation due to vasoconstriction caused by C02 deficiency (bohrs effect). This causes hypoxia and reduced oxygenation in our cells. Remember that oxygen delivers all the necessary nutrients to every organ in the body. Slow, mindful breath, such as the famous pranayama breath of yoga (constricting the back of the throat to make a audible, textured breath) engages the parasympathetic system, which is the relaxation and housekeeping system of the body. This conscious breathing stimulates the vagus nerve, which innervates the thyroid, heart, bladder and bowels. Slow, deep breathing helps to regulate our immunity, digestion, nervous systems and metabolism all through this system… which is linked to BREATH.
longevity. The Indian Vedas and Buddhist Monks are just two examples of ancient cultures who believed that we are given a set number of breaths at birth that can predict the length of our life. They believed that through meditation and yoga, one could extend the length of their life by slowing down and reserving their set number of breaths. In fact, many patients with cancer can prolong their lives by slowing down their rate of breathing. Most panic attacks could easily be avoided with controlled breath work. If a man breathes 15 times/minute, he will breathe 900 times in an hour and 21,600 times a day. If he could consciously decrease our respiratory rate to 10 breaths/minute, he would breathe 600 times a hour and 14,400 times a day. This significantly decreases our “set breath” given in life. Studies have shown that fast breathers suffer from higher levels of anxiety, depression, sleeping disorders and high blood pressure. In fact, the FDA acknowledges that oxygen is a medicine! Here are a few questions to ask yourself about your own breathing pattern:
Slow, deep breathing helps to regulate our immunity, digestion, nervous systems and metabolism all through this system … which is linked to BREATH.
Higher respiratory rates= shorter lives Animals with higher respiratory rates often (as a general rule) have shorter life spans. Consider that rabbits, which breathe 40-60 times/minute, have a lifespan of 8 years or dogs, which breathe 15-30 times/minute, live 15-20 years. The shrew breathes 140-170 times/ minute and lives ONE year. In contrast, the giant tortoise or great whales have a respiratory rate of 3-8 times/minute and live for 150 and 111 years old, respectively! This is important when one considers that ill patients also have higher respiratory rates. For example, patients who are septic or have cancer often breathe 20 or more times per minute. It seems that there is a correlation between slower respiratory rates and
1. Am I breathing properly?
Not only has the traumas and stress of this world affected our normal respiratory rates, but we have literally forgotten HOW to breathe. Its amazing to hear how many of my patients contract and suck their abdomen in with inhales rather than expand outward. If you watch a baby breathe, you will notice that his abdomen expands outward with each inhaled breath and contracts with each exhale. As we grow in adults, we only use the bottom 2/3 of our lungs while the upper 1/3 is not filled. This predisposes people to infections and disease. Full deep breaths are exercise for the lungs and provide necessary oxygenation, as well as nutrients, to all the organs of the body. If the alveoli, or lung cells are not fully expanding then they are susceptible to bacterial invasion due to stasis. Ensure that you are taking full breaths by expanding your abdomen with each breath and fill the top portion of your lungs. When exhaling, release the C02 in the top third of your lungs first, then continue to exhale the air in your contracted abdomen last.
2. Am I breathing rhythmically? Breathing should be slow, controlled… or rhythmic. It should also be through the nose as breathing through the mouth can lead to sore throats and can often indicate sleep apnea, especially when one is supine. This guarantees that you are expelling toxins and metabolic waste properly. If your exhalations are too short, you are

appy New Year! No, I’m not talking about 2016, I’m talking about Year 5. Fukushima, Year 5. It’s almost 5 years since the initial meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor, and although the disaster continues today it is not being treated by authorities with the kind of decisive urgency such an ecology-threatening situation demands. There are some events in history that change the timeline forever, marking the rest of the story for thousands of years. http://www.activistpost.com/2015/12/the-use-of-secret-courtsconfirms-the-end-of-democracy-in-britain.html

hought that products labeled Non-GMO meant that animals sold for consumption were fed NonGMO feed? So did I. Well, it seems that those pushing the Dark Act have stooped to a new low. Evidently, making sure that GMOs are not labeled is not enough. They also want to make sure that the NonGMO label is totally corrupted by allowing animals fed GMO feed and slaughtered for consumption, as well as products such as eggs and milk that GMO-fed animals produce, to be labeled “Non-GMO.” http://farmwars.info/?p=14295

10 Proven Medical Uses for Cannabis By Jeff Roberts.
www.collective-evolution.com
T
HE WIDESPREAD USE of cannabis as a medicine can be traced back millennia, where early Chinese doctors, such as surgeon Hua Tuo (c. 140-208), used the plant as an anesthetic by reducing the plant powder and mixing it with wine for administration before surgery. In fact, the Chinese term for “anesthesia” (mázui) literally means “cannabis intoxication.” Dutch sinologist Frank Dikötter also wrote about the ancient use of cannabis as medicine in his book, Narcotic Culture: A History of Drugs In China, where he highlighted how the root of the cannabis plant was used to remove blood clots, while the juice from the leaves could be ingested to combat tapeworm, and the seeds, once reduced to powder and mixed with rice wine, were used to fight several ailments including constipation and hair loss. Even the Egyptians recognized the medicinal applications of cannabis, particularly for the treatment of hemorrhoids. In ancient India, cannabis was used for a variety of ailments, including insomnia, headaches, GI disorders, and pain. Indeed, this ubiquitous plant has shared a sacred place in medicine for centuries. Bt then somewhere along the timeline, our relationship with cannabis became clouded by misinformation and defamation. Soon the green plant was seen as a threat to our youth, a threat to political agendas, a threat to conservative belief systems, and a threat to the financially-dominant industries
of the early 20th century, i.e., oil, tobacco, and alcohol. Fortunately today, however, we exist in a cannabis renaissance of sorts, where, thanks to the vast and efficient exchange of information through the world wide web, people are seeing through the veil of propaganda that for decades clouded the truth about cannabis, the truth being that it is a potent medicine. In his article, Booming New Cannabis Industry Faces an Abundance of Hurdles, Dr. Mercola points out that the scientific evidence supporting its medicinal value “is strong, and growing, due to its cannabidiol (CBD) content. Much of the herb’s popularity stems from its medicinal potential. In 2014, a survey found that the majority of physicians — 56 percent — favour nationwide legalization of medical cannabis.“ Indeed, the science is in, and the results are undeniable. Let’s take a look at 10 proven medical applications for cannabis, outlined partly by Leafscience, and discuss how this miracle plant is doing wonders for so many.
1) Pain Relief Studies show that THC activates pathways in the central nervous system that work to block pain signals from being sent to the brain. Likewise, cannabis has been shown to be especially effective against neuropathic pain, or nerve-related pain. Next time you go

2) PTSD Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is another common reason to use medical
Marinol, a pill containing synthetic THC, was the first THC-based medication to be approved by the FDA for this purpose. Since then, other THC pills have been developed and prescribed to patients undergoing chemotherapy, including a pill called Cesamet.
4) Appetite Stimulant Along with its ability to reduce nausea, THC is known to work as a powerful appetite stimulant in both healthy and sick individuals. Similarly, Marinol and Cesamet are regularly prescribed to boost appetite in patients with cancer and HIV-associated wasting syndrome. A number of studies conducted with Marinol suggest that THC can also stimulate weight gain in anorexia.
5) Asthma marijuana. Interestingly, the high from THC is also associated with temporary impairments of memory. While this may be seen as a drawback for some marijuana users, impaired memory is often therapeutic for those who struggle to forget painful memories, such as patients who suffer from PTSD. Recent studies confirm that oral doses of THC can help relieve a variety of PTSD-related symptoms including flashbacks, agitation and nightmares.
Treating asthma may not seem like an obvious use for medical marijuana. But as it turns out, THC’s ability to improve breathing in asthmatics is supported by research dating back to the 1970s. Following trials that showed smoking marijuana could help calm asthma attacks, scientists tried (and failed) to develop an inhaler that could deliver THC. While the THC inhaler idea was ultimately abandoned, some say modern-day vaporizers might be the solution.
3) Nausea & Vomiting
6) Glaucoma
THC has been available in pill form for treating nausea and vomiting in cancer patients since the 1980s.

HE BEGINNING OF my journey with Lyme disease is similar to most. My ending, however, is playing out quite differently than most. I found a tick behind my ear at the age of fourteen, and had various health problems for seven years before I was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease, Lupus, Mycoplasma, Bartonella, and Babesia. After two years my Lupus, Mycoplasma, Bartonella and Babesia are entirely eradicated. As far as my Lyme disease goes, I now have zero symptoms. My remaining ones are a result of withdrawals from the prescriptions I so naively started taking when I was initially diagnosed. How am I already returning to a healthy lifestyle only two years after forgetting to read, write, walk and talk? Well, a wealth of credit is owed to the Buhner protocol. I would not be where I am today without it. Still, I had one last giant “hump” in healing to get over after a year on the protocol. So I took a shot in the dark, which, for me, turned out to be the path to light. I decided to make my own cannabis oil and began taking it every waking hour. I now owe my life to this fascinating herb and am hopeful some of you will find strength and encouragement through this information. For a year and a half I had over ten seizures a day. I tried every treatment
this motivated me to take treatment one step further and find out what the results of taking cannabis oil would do for me. After only a month of taking it I was able to return to work and school, and began to drive and have a social life again. Now, I am finally planning to move out and be independent for the first time in years. Basically, I am returning to a lifestyle that I was once unsure I would ever see again thanks to the immense healing power of cannabis oil. Understandably, some will negate this article due to preconceived notions regarding cannabis, ones we were all conditioned to believe from a young age. Even I once held strong beliefs that cannabis was harmful to my health, but I could not be more thankful that I was proven otherwise. For me, the tangible proof stemming from firsthand experience will always trump the mere words of others. The Healing Power of Cannabis Oil On Lyme Disease and Lyme Co-infections
I could find, exhausting outlets in both conventional and holistic medicine. Desperately searching for answers, I stumbled across what turned out to be one of the most profound facts I have ever learned. Marijuana contains one of the most potent anticonvulsants in the world. Controversy over the subject was meaningless at that point, as the herb offered a possible solution to one of my most debilitating symptoms. As it turned out, smoking marijuana not only controlled my seizures, it completely cured them. With that in mind, I moved forward with my research. If it could do for seizures what no other plant or prescription could do, what could it do for Lyme? What I found was nothing short of fascinating, and essentially lifesaving. Cannabis has over 700 healing components which, to the best of my knowledge, is more than any other
plant known to mankind. Since my Lyme disease had reacted to and benefited from literally every herb I had taken, I figured it would without a doubt react to cannabis as well. Indeed, it did. Smoking marijuana had sometimes made me feel sick in the past, and I realized this could possibly be because it caused a Herxheimer reaction from bacteria die off each time. Experimenting what thankfully turned out to be an anything but crazy theory, I smoked an exceptionally large amount one night and suffered from a massive Herxheimer reaction. The next day, when it subsided, I felt I had regained a little chunk of my brain back. Since smoking the herb out of a regular pipe also means inhaling a lot of toxins, I began using a vaporizer to get more cannabinoids. My rate of improvement significantly sped up when I did this. 4 Compelling Reasons Why the Only Answer is to Question “He who does not answer the questions has passed the test.” — Franz Kafka By Gary ’Z’ McGee www.zengardner.com
W
HAT IS THE meaning of life? Better yet: what is the reason for discovering a meaning of life? Do we really need an answer? How far can I get into this without making a statement? Can any of these questions be answered? Perhaps and perhaps not. The best answer I’ve discovered for the first question is this: Whatever you want your life to mean. Which begs another question: are answers as important as we give them credit for? Perhaps, but I think not. Here’s the thing: if we rely too much on answers, we have a tendency to give up our search for better answers, let alone for better questions. When it comes down to it, everything can be questioned. Even the most certain things can be questioned. Like our own existence, for example. It’s highly probable that you exist, after all, you are reading this. Likewise, it’s highly probable that I exist, after all I am writing this. But even as certain as we are in answering “yes” to the question “do I exist?” there’s no reason why we should completely rely on that answer. After all, there may be much more to this whole “existence” thing than even we know. And it will be through questions –not answers– that we will discover how deep the rabbit hole really goes. Answers are fine as long as were us-
ing them as stepping-stones toward better questions. The problem is we too often use them as security blankets or buttressed comfort zones, and our journey comes to an anticlimactic and contented end. But there’s too much at stake to allow that to happen: self-individuation, self-emancipation, and self-actualization, to name a few. We must not rely on answers, for we might inadvertently evade the truth. Like Rumi said, “Be relentless in your looking, because you are the one you seek.” Here are four powerful reasons why the only answer is to question.
1.) Impermanence “Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.” –Rudyard Kipling Perhaps the only thing we can be more certain of than the proposition that we exist, is the notion of impermanence. Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. And yet, at the same time, all the energy in the universe has been present in different forms since the beginning of time, permanently going through the motions of impermanence. How wonderfully perplexing. But even impermanence is not immune (or shouldn’t be) to the gauntlet of our questioning. It’s both a reason to keep questioning things and a thing that should be questioned. Just the fact that our perceptions of words change over time is a reason to keep questioning and not rely on answers. Words are powerful, but they only get us so far in explaining the way the universe works. Ultimately, our answers are made up of words. Ultimately, words
fail. Even the words ‘answer,’ ‘question,’ and ‘impermanence’ fail to express what’s going on conceptually. Which is all the more reason to keep questioning. Like Pablo Picasso said, “The situation is hopeless. We must take the next step.” And the next step is always to question.
2.) Vicissitude “For aren’t you and I gods? Let all of life be an unfettered howl. Release life’s rapture. Everything is blooming. Everything is flying. Everything is screaming. Laughing. Running.” –Vladimir Nabokov Beyond notions of permanence and impermanence there is a third thing: vicissitude, unexpected change. Beyond choice, beyond free will, there is this interconnection of Jungian synchronicities that comprise our conceptualization of destiny, little twists of fate that cannot be explained. These vicissitudes are not without their tragedy and comedy, and they more often than not sprout new adventures we didn’t even realize we had in us. And they have the tendency to shatter everything we thought we knew. It is precisely within the shattering of our intellection that we come to understand that the only answer is to question. When what came before no longer holds any water. When the answers we gleaned in our youth crumble against the unforgiving behemoth of the universal construct. When our tiny egos meet our gargantuan souls. When our innocence is forced to eat itself over the Existential Blackhole of the human condition. When our primal creatureliness
Cannabis Legalization in Canada is about much more than this plant T HERE IS AN ugly trend that exists in society today, and it’s affecting all of us. Revenue from natural resources, industry, agriculture and more, are increasingly being leveraged away from the average Canadian and into the bank accounts of the wealthiest among us. Our legislators must now decide if they will take the multibillion dollar per year cannabis industry in the same direction, or if they will allow entrepreneurship and a world renowned industry to continue growing and maturing as it’s been doing for decades. Under Canada’s Marihuana for Medical
Page 12
Purposes Regulations — created by the Conservatives – 15 of the 27 producer licenses (56%) have been awarded in Ontario. This is a radical reshaping of the industry: historically an estimated 70% of Canada’s cannabis production has been located in British Columbia. The cannabis industry — smallscale production, processing, and retail — is a significant part of BC’s economy. BC’s cannabis industry has operated for decades AND has been considered a low law enforcement priority due to the peaceful nature of the majority of operators, and the low harm it places on society. Creativity,
vision, inspiration, care for others, these are the motivators for many of BC’s cannabis entrepreneurs. There is a strong precedent from multiple jurisdictions to allow business continuity during the transition from prohibition to legalization. Clearly this approach also nurtures local economies, and allows small business people and their employees’ excellent opportunities in a new business landscape. Recently, premiers from BC, was well as Ontario and Manitoba, have come out in support of a liquor store and pharmacy monopoly on cannabis distribution. It certainly seems that government and big business are maneuvering to divide the spoils of a newly legalized industry. One wonders if Premier Clark recognizes the significance of this to BC’s economy? If pharmacies and liquor control boards are given a monopoly on cannabis, the culture of dispensaries - the preferred source of cannabis for both medical and recreational
must give way to our celestial sacredness, or vice versa. When we’re slammed with the notion of how, as Neils Bohr said, “the opposite of a profound truth may very well be another profound truth.” It is then, caught between worlds, on the edge of the seat of our soul, mesmerized by the Great Mystery, that we must admit: the only answer is to keep questioning, to keep discovering worlds, to keep ourselves on the edge of our seat, and to continue the shock and awe of being caught in the throes of being a finiteperceiving being in an infinitely fascinating capital-R Reality.
3.) Infinity “The pupil of possibility receives infinity.” –Kierkegaard Time is the insomnia of Infinity. Perceptually, we’re swimming in both. But it’s Time that we’re better able to wrap our heads around. And so we do, usually at the detriment of Infinity. Within our perception of time we’re locked in a tug-of-war between the past, the present and the future. But it’s in this game of tug-of-war that we tend to lose the essence of the Meta-game that is infinity itself. This is typically because we rely on unfounded answers based on illusory data. Time does not exist, after all. It exists perceptually, mind you, but it doesn’t exist actually. And that’s the crux. That’s the proverbial fly in the proverbial ointment. Once we can allow that time is an illusion we’ll be less certain about the answers we’ve derived from our perception
See “QUESTION” on page 30 cannabis- will disappear. Some of Vancouver’s dispensaries are among the best in the world and are currently going through a municipal licensing process. Legalizing cannabis is a significant chapter in Canada’s history, our economy and our society. There is real risk to local economies, and West Coast culture, in creating regulations that dismantle an existing industry. The right to grow, the right to process, the right to choose your medicine and your supplier must be ensured. Significant research on the medical properties of cannabis must be undertaken. Education, de-stigmatization, and awareness must continue and be increased. Justin Trudeau and the Federal Liberals campaigned effectively on protecting the middle class and reducing the income gap - and to legalize cannabis. Legalized cannabis could make it possible for many small business people and their very specialized staff to thrive. It could, alternately, leave us out in the cold, particularly here in BC, while giving corporations, some of them global, the ability to consolidate trading tickets and amass ever-greater fortunes. Y THINKING ON a variety of subjects has changed over time and I expect my understanding will continue to evolve as new information, knowledge and propaganda enters my orbit. Contrary to popular belief this is a good thing because it means my mindset is not as static and rigid as some, though it is most certainly worse than others. One of the great questions of the ages is why we, and by ‘we’ I mean anyone other than ‘they/them’, tolerate the abuse we receive from the hand of our masters. While the mistreatment is most often handed down on an individual basis, “We the Abused” outnumber the abusers by at least 10 to 1. And I count among that ‘1’ all those who enable, support and carry out the abuse. So why do we tolerate something we can clearly stop if we so wish? Earlier on in my ongoing awakening, a never-ending process of self-reflection and discovery, I would sometimes use the derogatory term ‘sheeple’ to describe both a people and a condition. I was grasping for a simple all encompassing answer to a complex problem, and believing that the vast masses were blissfully ignorant while passively grazing upon an array of consumer goods satisfied my need to understand what to me at the time was incomprehensible. This is not to say some are not exactly as described. In fact at one point in my life I fit the bill perfectly, totally consumed in my navel gazing and mostly oblivious to not only my own lot in life, but also to those around me. As a single parent raising my boy alone for seventeen years, I was righteously indignant if anyone dared to question my focus. After all, I was doing it for the child(ren). But deep down I knew that at best my explanation was inadequate and at worse deeply flawed. While at several points in my life I was a ‘sheeple’, the description did not fit all my situations all the time. I lived in, and existed within, a far more complex world than could be described using simple concepts and ideas. Like a broken clock I was on the rare occasion quite accurate, but for the vast majority of the time I was dead wrong. I suspect my view was biased by familiarity both with myself and others who fit the description. But more importantly, it was comforting to believe I understood the problem and that I wasn’t ‘it’. So I continued to search for an answer to THE question, though this time I was more thoroughly grounded after recognizing my desire for a simplistic answer and my need to absolve myself from blame or culpability. This self-examination and understanding led directly to my explorations into denial, both of the self and of the collective. This seemed to make more sense to me,
A Kept Culture and, quite frankly, still does as a significant contributor to this issue. Denial is infinitely customizable, scalable and adaptable. One can be in total, partial and minimal denial about a subject or subjects and our denial can ebb and flow as circumstances and conditions, including our anxiety and fear, dictate. We are never completely denial free unless we can claim to have cleared all the Cognitive Dissonance cobwebs from the mind, an assertion I would not make since I stumble across, and become entangled within, new ones on a reoccurring basis. If anything as I continue to grow I find more, not less, though they are increasingly more subtle and nuanced. But while denial more completely describes the present state of the human condition, it still falls short of encompassing the infinite variety of daily life within the Insane Asylum. How does one cope with being in a near constant state of loss and grief, of borderline depression, while still ‘functioning’ on a day-to-day basis? In many respects we are endlessly circling the five stages of loss and grief so nicely described in the Kubler-Ross model, yet clearly on a higher, more complex, level of existence because it encompasses both the individual and the collective.
captivity never really is aware of a ‘loss’. But both lions may still suffer from the same neurosis that springs from the sense, the knowing, that something not quite definable (and more importantly unchangeable) is wrong. It is my supposition that “We the People” also suffer from the same loss, the same trauma, as the captive born lion does, an inner ache and a growing awareness that something is very wrong with the world and our life within it. Because the reality we live within is the only reality we know, most of what is wrong is not readily apparent to the majority of us since this is just the way things are and everyone else
lives more or less the same life as we do. A failure of our imagination is partially to blame for the sense we all have of being trapped with nowhere to go and no way to change. The other day Mrs. Cog used a term to describe a fictional character from an old movie. She said the character was a ‘kept man’ and I instantly understood what she meant, though it would not have mattered if she had said ‘kept woman’. In so many ways the relationship between the ‘keeper’ and the ‘kept’ is remarkably similar to our ‘kept culture’ and the basis for our dour outlook and sense of impending doom and depression, even if it only lingers under the surface of our awareness. Let me attempt to further explain. There is always an implicit, and often an
See “KEPT CULTURE” on page 14
Collective loss and grief An example of the individual/collective loss and grief dynamic in play was the days and weeks after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Words fail to adequately explain what the nation on all levels experienced at that time. There were few, other than the very young, who were not emotionally moved either directly by the loss or by the collective pall the country entered immediately afterward. As a child of seven years, while I did not understand what was going on, I was definitely moved by the emotional trauma others were dealing with at the time. However, Kubler-Ross describes a onetime devastating loss or the recognition of an impending loss and the process of navigating that loss and grief, while I am seeking an explanation of a never ending existence within the loss and grief process because the ‘loss’ relates to, and is an integral part of, our daily living. I am speaking directly to the psychological and emotional consequences of the overall condition of our existence rather than onetime events that disturb our existence. I suspect using the term ‘loss’ is inaccurate or incomplete, at least in the literal sense of the word. While a Lion captured in the wild and then confined to a cage at the zoo ‘knows’ what it has lost, a lion born into

explicit, agreement of understanding between the keeper and the kept that pretty much spells out the duties of each party as well as the rewards and benefits of the arrangement. With regard to our kept culture, on a broader scale the general terms and conditions of the agreement are spelled out in grade school, then further defined and refined in college, while the specifics of each situation are expressed by each employer/benefactor. Here is what you ‘do’ and this is your ‘compensation’ for doing so. While most, if not all, of the power remains in the hands of the keeper, it is to the benefit of both parties that an illusion of equality is inferred between the keeper and the kept in order for the kept to feel they have ‘agreed’ to, and are ‘willing’ to, fully cooperate with the keeper to fulfill the terms of the agreement. You catch more flies (and more kept) with honey than vinegar. But make no mistake about it, this agreement can be only abridged or fundamentally altered with the consent of the keeper and not by the kept, thus demonstrating where the real power resides. On those occasions when the kept strays beyond the boundaries laid out in the agreement or angers the keeper, it is then that the power carefully hidden from view and veiled behind propaganda, public protocols and cultural ritual is exhibited in a manner that leaves no doubt who is in charge. Just as the keeper may afford the kept a credit card or regular cash disbursements in order to further the illusion the kept is free and independent, those liberties can and will be quickly rescinded if for no other reason than as a reminder of who holds the power in the relationship. So too the power of the state, its sharp edges deliberately smoothed by propagandized his-
Page 14
torical storytelling and mass media assurances, is obvious to anyone looking down the barrel of a gun or being summoned to court. There is no doubt which party is expected to submit when the keepers of the peace and the purse pull you over or summon you for an audit. Ultimately the authority of the keepers is derived from the threat of force, though it is in the best interest of all parties involved to keep this fact carefully obscured behind a thousand sheer veils. On the surface it would appear the participants never change in these agreements until death do they part. And for some this is the case. But what helps cement the illusion of freedom for the kept and that of the magnificent benevolence of the keepers, is the seeming ability to change the conditions of the agreement, with each able to leave in order to form a more perfect union with another kept or keeper. But while individual conditions and connections may change, the overall framework remains the same. This is similar to a formalized agreement between a players’ union (for example the NFL Players Association) and the sport’s organizing consortium (i.e. the National Football League) that outlines the rules that govern the overall relationship between players and league (the Collective Bargaining Agreement). This enables both parties to negotiate everything and anything so long as it follows the general rules and regulations of the governing agreement. So too, the kept and keeper may both change lovers at will so long as they do not switch roles or do anything else that violates the governing agreement parameters. In some ways the keeper is just as constrained as the kept. Of course the keeper retains a greater degree of flexibility with regard to timing, selection and opportunity, whereas the kept may not overtly ‘select’ a new keeper, but must ultimately be selected by the keeper. The kept may burnish his/her resume (appearance, social and sexual skills, education and training, athletic ability) to
increase desirability. But with the market flooded with available (read cheap) kept individuals, ultimately the market is controlled by the keepers. In practice a keeper keeps more than one and often dozens, though there may be a favourite the keeper returns to time and time again. So while there is some degree of certainty for the kept so long as they remain productive and compliant, there is still a good deal of risk realized from being kept, and most of this risk is arbitrary and unspoken. Needless to say this creates a smouldering sense of anxiety within the kept and over the long term contributes greatly to their neurosis. Essentially being kept is simply another form of slavery, one driven mostly by the willing participation of the kept in service to the keeper. Thus we witness modern day plantation living in all its glory and profit. I could go on and on with further examples of how “We the People” are a kept culture, including an in-depth exploration of the psychology underlying it. But why take all the fun out of it by rubbing our noses in our own excrement. The fact remains we for the most part willingly participate in our own slavery because the perks are too good to reject and the pain is not great enough to compel us to shake off the chains that binds us to our own servitude. While I certainly understand how powerless the kept believe we/they are, and by extension how powerful the keepers remain, this is all an illusion designed to keep the kept (and in many respects the keepers themselves) mesmerized, seduced and sated. The powerful impression of system rigidity and momentum serves to maintain the status quo. We rarely consider casting off our own chains because we consider our binds tied to everyone else’s and the system itself, thus exponentially complicating the problem in our minds. We conflate our personal condition with the overall systemic condition and vice versa, thus perpetuating the illusion with very little energy introduced to actually change our lives.
After all you can’t fight city hall...right? The funny thing is you don’t need to fight city hall to reformulate your ‘self’, just the desire and courage to do so. If ever there was a perpetual motion machine invented, it is the social ‘agreement’ I just described. The small amount of energy introduced from outside the closed loop system to keep it churning is minor compared to the amount self-produced by the active participation of both the kept and keeper as well as that generated by the ever evolving parameters within the much larger collective governing agreement. This energy, whether internal or external, is expressed primarily as emotion and when multiplied by 325 million, or 7 billion, is quite frankly the most powerful man made force in the universe. While we blame the keepers for our kept condition, it is we who are ultimately to blame for our slavery primarily because we expect that we must change the world when all we need do is change ourselves. I often ask those around me, “How do you eat an elephant”, a seemingly impossible task. The answer is, of course, one bite at a time. But in order to do so we must be brutally honest with ourselves and recognize our contributing role in the collective farce and the personal conditions we must change if we are to slip the binds that tie. The perks that come with being kept will not survive the breaking of the keep. And it is our denial of this fact that greatly contributes to the power of the keepers and of our being continuously kept. Pain must be endured and several steps back must be tolerated, even encouraged, if we are to eventually move forward. Centuries of prior collective experience and memory cannot be erased in days, weeks, even months. Nor can we expect others to blaze the trail if we are unwilling to walk the path, alone if necessary. Stop waiting for others to start the process and take your first bite of true freedom.

ACK IN THE summer of 2007, I sat on the kitchen floor with my daughter, unpacking products I bought for protection from electromagnetic fields (EMFs). I bought a device to plug into “any” electrical outlet in the house, necklaces for my 2 sons and husband, and ankle bracelets for myself and daughter. I bought these products after 2 years of internet searching, over concerns about the hydro transformer and above ground hydro wires around my home, the electrical equipment inside our home and my family’s increasing exposure to radio frequency from wireless technology. The website from which I purchased the EMF protection products explained the products did not have batteries or electrical chips or put out any signal. They protected using “specific geometric shapes and elements” to ground the body, fully, into Earth’s electromagnetic field; the grounding allows the body to naturally release biologically meaningless and chaotic EMFs. Dr. Frances Sterling, the manufacturer’s doctor on staff, explained to me that the human body was intended to live in Earth’s electromagnetic field and that EMFs disrupt reception of information in that field, which is vital for health and life itself. Today, the Earth’s field is polluted with man-made frequencies, so the human body instead receives “junk” produced by AC electricity and wireless technology, right down to the DNA. I also learned from Dr. Sterling that blocking out or reducing EMFs can bring symptom relief because it saves the body from the stress when EMFs are absorbed, but does not repair, and in most cases worsens the body’s reception of Earth’s natural electrical signals. She said the products I bought functioned differently, “they give us back our birthright, as it happens, in the moment”. I
EMF Protection:
Restoring the Body’s Birthright had taken many courses in biological processes and neuroscience and this was the first time I’d heard such concepts. I was taught all physical functioning of the body is based on complex electromagnetic mechanisms; that electricity drives the matter of the body. Knowing this, the scientific explanations I read about the effects of EMFs made sense to me. So did the idea of using EMF protection that worked by securing the body’s link to a natural source of sustenance. These reasons, the promise of protection against everything electrical with just one device, plus the 90 day money back guarantee, were the reasons I bought the brand of EMF protection products. I really didn’t know how they worked or what to expect from products that promised to “remove the chronic stress on the nervous system and acupuncture meridian system, due to EMFs”. Shortly after I began using the home EMF protection system my experience of myself and the world around me entered into “slow speed’. Somehow, days were longer and more peaceful and I was accomplishing more. I stopped feeling as though living “under the gun”, pressured by tasks and responsibilities and the constant need to manage my time and my activities as a stay-at-home Mom. I first noticed the changes while at the
supermarket check-out, waiting for a price check. I was thinking that the price check was idle time and how I had to get home, unload and put away the groceries, make and serve dinner and drive one of my sons to a game. I recognized the absence of the hysterical inner voice and antsy feeling that would usually come over me in such situations. I was keenly aware of how calm I was. The new experiences of calm and peace provided me the opportunity to reflect and respond rather than react. Around this same time, one day while smiling, I realized I was experiencing joy, and how foreign that felt. I also experienced revitalizing benefits in my health and cognitive functioning. My health had deteriorated over the previous 20 years (chronic fatigue, cognitive impairment, fibromyalgia and periods of months in bed). By the summer of 2007, my health was tenuous and supported by regular health treatments and a battery of supplements. Whereas, in my younger years, I had the cognitive abilities to be a successful student, at the time I ordered the EMF protection products, I was sometimes unable to read a newspaper article past the 3rd or 4th sentence without total confusion. After 2 months of using the EMF protecting devices, my energy levels soared as did my brain power.
My experiences with the products and the ingenuity behind the technology convinced me these were dynamic and life-changing devices. I had the background knowledge to understand the effects of electricity on the body. It was only, however, once the electricity was removed, that I appreciated to what extent electricity impacted my physical and cognitive health and senseof-well-being. After experiencing profound changes and witnessing changes in my family, I decided I wanted to educate people about the detrimental effects of EMFs and bring these dynamic EMF products to public attention. And by so doing, help people enter into a healthier state of being; to help people live as nature intended. Within 4 months of purchasing the EMF protection products, I had a website www. earthcalm.ca which was dedicated to selling the products, and marketed them at my own booth at one of Toronto’s largest health fairs, Whole Life Expo. Soon after, I was selling to one of Toronto’s oldest and most respected health stores, The Big Carrot, and within a year, presented a lecture there, to a standingroom-only crowd. I quickly learned how the products work and furthered my understanding of the relationship between the human body and the Earth’s electromagnetic field. This field, or environment, is a spectrum of electromagnetic frequencies that reside between Earth’s crust and the ionosphere. The spectrum is collectively referred to as the Schumann Resonances. Recent research has identified structures in the human body that are engineered to receive guiding information from Earth”s electromagnetic frequencies: DNA, the pineal gland, and 7 billion crystalline magnetites in the brain. Over 50 years of scientific research demon-

thefreethoughtproject.com ECAUSE TODAY’S geoengineering operations seem to involve electromagnetic energy produced from ground-based antennas called “ionospheric heaters” or “Hertzian Antennas” or various types of radar, we should know more about this ubiquitous and (to most) mysterious energy. This article gives an overview of what electromagnetic energy is and how it manifests itself in our every day life. It can be harmful or it can be beneficial. Once we establish what this stuff is and what it does, we will examine its use as part of today’s global weather modification operations. Most of the time, you can’t feel it, hear it, smell it, or taste it, but electromagnetic energy is present in many different forms around us for our entire lives. Whether you’re camped out under the stars, in the middle of the desert, or home in bed, the light of a starry night, the passing electrical fields in weather systems, or the electrical fields from the wires in the walls of your house are constantly present. Since you rely on electrical signals in your nervous system to react, think, and experience emotions, the electrical fields in your environment can influence you in a powerful way. Most people don’t realize that their cellphones are miniature microwave heaters. Whether carried in the pocket, in the bra, or in your hand near your face and head, you are irradiating yourself with signals that penetrate your body and brain, and the frequency is in the same microwave range as the kitchen appliance that heats your soup. Most cellphones today have GPS units built-in, and the very fact that a phone (whether it’s turned on or not) knows where you are on the surface of the earth is an indication that it’s communicating with a satellite about 22,000 miles above your head. The GPS signal grid is an electromagnetic net-sending energy not only to your phone, but into and through your body. Other signals, like those from cellphone/surveillance towers, traffic light sensors, police radar, “naked” body scanners at the airport, and WiFi internet equipment are sending invisible beams through the air and through you. One cycle of the wave energy varies from zero to maximum, back to zero, to minimum, and back to zero again. All that back-and-forth takes up a certain amount of distance (wave length), and just like the difference between a wave on the ocean and a ripple on a pond, these waves have relative size and strength…called “amplitude”, or volume. The number of fluctuations or “cycles” is what we call the “frequency” of these waves; which means how many of them occur during one second. “Frequency” describes the waves, so use the term as an adjective rather than a noun. Nothing shows off ignorance like the misuse of a Physics term! Have you noticed that waves breaking near the shore have a different shape than waves further out? The increasing shallowness makes the wave crest and then break as the impulse no longer has enough water to travel. In music, we can tell the difference between a trumpet and a flute, even though they’re playing the
exact same frequency. The harmonics produced by different instruments cause a different shape in the wave energy, and our minds use this cue to distinguish between them. Wave shape is important when it comes to any type of energy, and even the purest waveform produced in a laboratory gets distorted when it enters the physical environment. Things like reflection, absorption, resonance, and interference all affect transmission, as you’ve probably noticed when your cell phone signal fades in one of those notorious “dead zones.” Have you noticed that X-ray technicians rarely stay in the room when you’re getting irradiated? This is because very high frequency electromagnetic energy is actually powerful enough to damage cells in your body. The technicians are around this energy all the time, so either they wear a lead shield, or they get far enough away to avoid exposure. Above the ultraviolet range, the higher energy and frequency of X-rays and Gamma rays not only penetrate human tissue, they can damage cells by knocking electrons away from their proper atoms (ionization). When this happens, the cells begin to leak and die, or they mutate and cause cancer. The natural rays coming from the sun can damage our eyes and skin, but for the most part, our bodies have not only evolved natural protection against too much exposure, we actually need a certain amount of direct sunlight to supply the vitamin D that keeps us well. Physicist Tom Valone says, “HV [high voltage] static and dynamic EMFs [electromagnetic fields] have been an integral part of the human experience for thousands of years of evolution so that we biologically thrive in response to them.”[1] The natural signals we receive are from a blend of sources like the earth’s Schumann Resonance (about 8 cycles a second), momentary charges from distant lightning, and even electrical fields generated by seismic stresses on tectonic plates. The power of the natural signal can vary, especially if a lightning storm is right over you. But an analysis of this healthy exposure shows we need a wide variety of different frequencies and wave shapes. The problem arises with sustained, artificial exposure to concentrated, uniform energy fields. The human body responds to this exposure with a variety of disease states from: arthritis, depression, fibromyalgia, leukemia, and birth defects, to cancer. The red pigment in your blood is based on iron, which is a conductive and magnetic metal. What could all the powerful, artificial signals in our environment be doing to the “circuit” of your blood and the electrical signals in your nervous system? As of yet, we largely don’t know. By 1974, “voice to skull” communication (carried by microwaves) was available as an electronic harassment or communication method for United States Special Forces. This technology is based on modulating a microwave carrier signal with electronically superimposed, subliminal words. It seems apparent there is a potential for advertising devices to plant suggestions in your mind. After passing one of those annoying advertising monitors at the store, you may suddenly have a compulsion to buy new tires for the car-even though you hadn’t thought of it or planned to do so. This phenomenon is more than subliminal advertising, it’s called “entrain-
ment.” It’s fairly common for entertainment media to contain subliminal entrainment signals that induce an almost hypnotic, zombie state by synchronizing with and slowly altering your brain waves. Your brain waves have a natural shape and rate, depending on what you’re doing. The lower frequency, slower waves are associated with sleep and meditation, while faster rhythms are associated with analytical thinking or intellectual effort. If you just got a new video game and find yourself calling in sick to work, failing to change clothes or bathe, and eating food delivered to your door for a couple of weeks, you are entrained, my friend. Electromagnetic energy, weather modification, and other elite agendas Though it’s hard to know the true agenda of the pervasive weather modification efforts going on over our heads,
it’s becoming increasingly clear that weather fronts and cloud patterns are showing the effects of extremely powerful electromagnetic energy applied from unknown sources. Most geoengineering involves depositing nano-sized particles in the Troposphere, but some military and scientific applica-

tions require chemicals like Barium and Strontium compounds deposited at much higher altitudes. “It has…been proposed to release large clouds of barium in the magnetosphere so that photoionization will increase the cold plasma density, thereby producing electron precipitation through enhanced whistlermode interactions.”[2] This is from a PhD thesis dedicated to sending extremely low frequency (ELF) signals around the planet from the HAARP facility in Alaska. The initial heating energy sent up first to create a superheated dome of plasma for an antenna, uses a powerful square wave with the sharp transition from zero to full power timed precisely to drive the atmosphere into an electrical frenzy and thereby heat up to around 5700o F. The Ionosphere (80-300 miles up) is composed of several layers of incomplete, electrically unbalanced molecules (ions) that have been torn apart by the sun’s radiation in a process called ionization. HAM radio operators have long known that the ionosphere can act like a mirror for radio signals, especially at night when the atmosphere is calmer. Scientists and military groups have been using various layers of the ionosphere to create the aforementioned large bubbles or domes of superheated plasma to reflect signal transmissions all the way around the earth in two or three “hops.”[3] They’ve also found that the plasma dome collapses when the heating signal is turned off; which effectively creates a downwardpressing “gravity wave” as cold air rushes into the void left behind. Gravity waves can be used to steer the jet stream or crush the excess moisture out of developing hurricanes or storms with tornado potential.[4] Those of us who watch the weather patterns in the Pacific, west of California, have detected a number of weird incidents where drought-busting storms suddenly dissipated under very suspicious circumstances. Ionospheric heaters are big, expensive antenna arrays that have traditionally been located near the earth’s poles, with later installations (and new strategies) located near the
equator. They are increasingly being replaced by instruments mounted on ships or in smaller ground-based regional stations around the globe. Many ionospheric heater experiments have emphasized both the ELF and VLF (very low frequency) frequency ranges; which just happen to resonate with human brain waves or the Earth’s natural Schumann Resonance frequency. According to Physicist Bernard Eastlund, “The technology of artificial ionospheric heating could be as important for weather modification research as accelerators have been for Particle Physics.”[5] The US Navy uses the same frequency range for communicating with undersea submarines, and the oil and gas industry has developed very accurate methods for locating deposits underground with ELF electromagnetic energy beamed right into the earth. Many people have blamed the increase of Midwest earthquake swarms on this exploration before fracking came in. There is some indication that powerful electromagnetic signals can cause liquefaction along fault lines due to the heating of iron particles in the soil. So we’re looking at increased levels of EM excitation of the air, the earth, AND the oceans. Increasing numbers of whales and dolphins are beaching themselves, even in areas where the Navy claims it is NOT using sonar. Animals that depend on magnetism for navigation during migration are often disoriented, moving in the wrong direction at the wrong time. Could this be caused by artificial electrical and magnetic energy flooding the environment from new sources that have no requirement to admit the tremendous harm to wildlife and humans? A veterinarian in Beebe, AR, after he performed internal examinations, said that the blackbirds dropping by the thousands from the sky looked like they had been microwaved. The USGS maintains a database of bird and fish die-offs. Though biological disease factors and chemical toxicity are recorded, by far, the fastest growing category for “Cause of Death” is “Undetermined” or “Trauma, Open”. Around storm fronts, in years past, we sometimes saw ridging in the clouds that were called “sheep” clouds. Now it’s possible to see that ridging just about any time you see clouds. Links for two examples are below can also be viewed on the right side of this page: http://www.activistpost.com/wp-content/ uploads/2016/01/image1.png http://www.activistpost.com/wp-content/ uploads/2016/01/image-2.png Obviously, energy that can do this to water vapour isn’t necessarily confined at the level of the clouds. Though you may not see it in the air around you, there is nothing to stop that same ener gy from coming down to the ground. If the energy is being radiated from ground installations, it’s obviously at an angle very close to the surface in order for it to spread over the entire area of southern New Mexico. If the energy is coming from satellites, it’s obviously hitting the ground after it passes through the clouds. It begs the question:
Is the energy always there but only detectable when there are clouds present? Many observers who have noticed weather “steering,” storm augmentation, and/or cancelling have been blaming the coordinated network of powerful NEXRAD stations throughout the country. However, if you notice the

T’S NO SECRET we live in a highly toxic world, and now toxins are being identified as the culprit behind the development of countless types of sickness, symptoms, and disease. There is no escaping these toxins., From the air we breathe to the food and water we ingest they bombard us every day. Once inside the body, they don’t leave so easily. They sit in cells, disrupting natural functions, causing molecules to break down, eventually leading to serious illness. Zeolite supplements are now being widely recognized as the solution to restoring health in this polluted world.
About Zeolite If you asked the average person, “Have you heard about Zeolite?” chances are, they haven’t. Zeolite is an amazing natural mineral that will gently and safely remove toxins, (e.g. heavy metals and radiation) from the body. Millions of years ago when the Earth was volatile, volcanic ash settled on alkaline salt waters. This formed a porous mineral with a negative charge. Since most toxins and heavy metals are positively charged, Zeolite easily absorbs them through attraction. The strong cage-like structure of the Zeolite plays a big factor in making this a safe way to detox. Once a toxic molecule is pulled out of a cell and absorbed by the Zeolite, the bond between the Zeolite and toxin is never disrupted. The body cannot break down zeolite, so it is expelled (along with any absorbed toxins) about 6-8 hours after taking it. By eliminating toxic materials, the source of sickness is removed, allowing health conditions to improve immensely.
Zeolite Supplements are Born Though Zeolite is millions of years old, it wasn’t used as a health supplement until over 15 years ago. Micah Portney, founder of the Zeolite industry, heard about this mineral in college. He explains, “I read an article written for CNN about the Chernobyl disaster. They used Zeolite in food to remove radiation and essentially detox the victims. After doing some research, I realized Zeolite might be able to remove the toxins that cause a hangover when alcohol is metabolized. I have a rare liver disorder called Dubin-Johnson’s syndrome. During college, hangovers would be twice as bad for me than anyone else. Zeolite peaked my interest in solving this problem for me.” Micah spent almost four years having Zeolite mines around the world tested, until he found the purest source possible. He then developed a hangover product called ZEO, which did not catch on so easily. However, Micah started to hear stories from individuals experiencing health benefits from taking ZEO. At the same time, there was an immense amount of research surfacing, listing a wide range of health benefits from taking Zeolite daily. Micah decided to take his product line in a different direction. “I wanted to stop focusing on people who were hurting themselves, and start focusing on healing,” affirms Micah. Soon afterwards, ZEO Health Ltd., the first Zeolite supplement company, was launched out of West Nyack, NY. ZEO Health has forever changed the ever-growing detox industry. It has remained the leading Zeolite company, making the highest quality Zeolite supplements and only using that pure Zeolite source

Aerobic Exercise Affects The Brain Much Like Marijuana Does Giving runners a euphoric high By Julie Fidler

E
VERYONE HAS HEARD of “runner’s high,” but it seems that it’s quite a literal statement. For an all-natural high, tie on some running shoes and hit the pavement. Researchers from the University of Hamburg and University of Heidelberg say the same euphoric feeling that comes with smoking marijuana can be achieved through running and other forms of aerobic exercise because it impacts the brain in a similar way as marijuana. [1] Scientists have long attributed post-workout ecstasy with a release of endorphins alone, but the new findings suggest the brain’s endocannabinoid system is affected by exercise, just as the brain is affected by cannabinoids in marijuana. Cannabinoids can also affect appetite, pain, mood, and memory. “A runner’s high is a subjective sense of well-being some humans experience after prolonged exercise,” the German research team wrote in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “For decades, it was hypothesized that exerciseinduced endorphin release is solely responsible for a runner’s high, but recent evidence has suggested that endocannabinoids also may play a role.” “Running exercise increases blood levels of both betaendorphin (an opioid) and anandamide (an endocannabinoid),”

Studies in Biophysics demonstrate consistently that the human body and all living things deteriorate when separated from Earth’s electromagnetic field. A 2011 study by 2008 Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Luc Montagnier demonstrated the background of the Schumann Resonance is essential for DNA signalling to take place (for more information see: L Montagnier et al 2011 J. the team wrote. Scientists had one group of mice run on a treadmill for 5 hours, while a second group of the rodents remained sedentary. The mice’s anxiety levels were tested using the dark-light box test, which measures the speed and frequency it took the animals to leave a well-lit area for a darker area that offers a place to hide. Researchers tested the rodents’ pain tolerance by placing them on a hot plate to see if they would jump or lick. The mice that ran on the treadmill were found to be less anxious than the mice in the sedentary group. The treadmill group was also found to have a higher tolerance for pain when the team dosed both groups of mice with a chemical that blocked endocannabinoids. The findings suggest the process indeed plays a role in a “runner’s high.” [2] “Here, we demonstrate that wheel running increases endocannabinoids and reduces both anxiety and sensation of pain in mice,” researchers added. “We thus show for the first time to our knowledge that cannabinoid receptors are crucial for main aspects of a runner’s high.” [3] Julie Fidler is a freelance writer, legal blogger, and the author of Adventures in Holy Matrimony: For Better or the Absolute Worst. http://faithhunting.blogspot.ca

internally rotated shoulders that hunch inward to protect our heart space. A chest that caves in or hunched shoulders not only leads to physical misalignments and back pain, but makes it difficult to take a full breath. Turn your attention to posture and breath as this can give you automatic relaxation. You should be able to look down and see open, broad shoulders (drawing shoulder blades together) and a rising and falling belly. Correct and mindful breathing can lead to a fuller and longer life. Incorrect breathing can easily be converted to proper rhythmic abdominal breathing, as this is our natural state! This increases oxygenation of the blood, internal organs and brain. It improves circulation, massages the biliary tree and detoxification organs and brings instant calm to the nervous system.

picture above, on the left, you’ll see a satellite shot of the island of Honshu, taken right before the earthquake and tsunami that caused the Fukushima disaster. Those clouds are certainly not being ridged by a NEXRAD station, and you have to wonder whether such powerful energy beamed right at an earthquake fault zone might have played a role in the severity of the quake. It is sometimes possible to “zero in” on the energy sources when the ridging seems to be radiating out in concentric circles in the clouds. One place in the US that seems active during weather front passage is in north central Nevada. Upon zooming in using Google Earth, a very strange looking centre pivot irrigation field turns out to be right in the centre of the disturbances. This image is now blurred in the current version of Google Earth. The presented image link is from the author’s archived collection. http://www.activistpost.com/wpcontent/uploads/2016/01/image3.png Zoomed In: http://www.activistpost.com/wpcontent/uploads/2016/01/image4.png As this modulation in the clouds is seen more and more, it’s becoming obvious that more of the atmosphere (and the earth) is being irradiated by powerful, artificial electromagnetic energy in ways never before seen on this planet. This new energy “pollution” is happening at the same time that huge amounts of geoengineering chemicals are being dumped into the air. The environment right now is completely different than the
conditions that were present when we were born (regardless of when you were born). More and more people are discovering they are sensitive to “electro-smog”, and doctors are not presently trained to help patients deal with the debilitating symptoms caused by exposure to EM fields. Is it any wonder we are seeing incredible rates of tree death in the forests, flocks of birds dropping from the sky, and the inevitable loss of food production caused by the disappearance of bees and other pollinators? In Why in the World Are They Spraying, a film by Michael Murphy, there is an interview with a trader who works in commodity trading. He says he can make millions by over-insuring crops, and then “ordering up” a weather disaster. By causing the crop to fail, the insurance claim results in a reimbursement larger than the profit to be gained by selling the crop. If this trend continues, greed for financial gain will eventually wipe out the ability to produce food. The farmers don’t benefit from these disasters. Only the commodity traders and their beneficiaries gain anything from destroying an entire season’s crop. Eventually, the farmers will be wiped out, and food will be produced by huge agricultural conglomerates that really don’t care about the quality or safety of the product. Beyond weather “modification” is the aspect of weather control. Weather watchers have been horrified to watch jet stream channeling, chemical aerosol dumping in the feed streams of building hurricanes, and apparent increases in wind speeds or pressure differences needed to time the collision of fronts that result in storms like Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, the Polar Vortex heading south, or the California drought disaster. What started out in Bernard Eastlund’s mind
as a beneficial method to prevent weather disasters has now morphed into a set of the most powerful weather weapons in history. As mentioned in articles by Peter A. Kirby, the Navy’s Admiral Raborn expressed a desire to develop and use weather weapons in tactical and strategic situations, and there have been a number of developments in the ability to launch and fly an aircraft with wireless microwave energy beamed up to supply rechargeable battery power. The big question now, is why so much electronic and chemical weather control is happening over civilian populations around the world. Does anyone remember the scandal when the global warming data collected by the University of East Anglia, UK and used by Al Gore in the “Inconvenient Lie” was proven to be false and the covered up? There has to be another reason for the huge expense related to over 180 geoengineering patents, literally billions of tons of toxic chemicals dispersed into the sky, and the cost of the fleet of delivery aircraft, whether or not they’re human-piloted or drones. In an era when elite leaders are openly saying the earth has too many people, why would they possibly care about preventing weather disasters of any sort? It seems obvious when you consider this equation: (Too many people) – (Death due to weather disasters: crop/livestock loss, flood, drought, depleted fisheries, earthquakes, crime, disease, birth defects, blizzards, tropical storms) = More for the elite Whether we can see it or not, the electromagnetic energy filling our skies is either part of this weather control, or worse, part of human population control. According to Barrie Trower, who has several powerful interviews on YouTube, constant exposure to EM energy can cause: domestic violence, miscarriages,
leukemia, cancer, psychosis, and zombie-like apathy. When cloud ridging is so evident in cloud patterns all over the globe, it would be interesting to gather health and social data like crime and violence rates. But that data is localized and very difficult to compare because no one is looking at the big picture and nobody seems to have any information on when, what, or why the energy is being applied. To paraphrase George H.W. Bush, the stealthy aspects of population reduction and mind control on a large scale are now “coming into view”…all you have to do is look up.

How To Get Out Of Your Head & Into Your Heart by Christina Sarich
www.collective-evolution.com
“
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts. ~ Bertrand Russell
W
”
E CAN INTELLECTUALIZE the world’s problems forever, debating who created them and how we can change them, but one thing is for certain when it comes to our ability to evolve to the next step of humanity – we’ve got to get out of our heads and into our hearts. We need to be fools. We need to get a little crazy, in fact. Quite literally – lose our minds. Lose the ever-thinking, conniving, worrying, strategizing ways of the intellect which hold up true progress. Sure, the human intellect is amazing, it came up with post-it notes and pumpkin pie, but it also devised the atom bomb, fracking, and water fluoridation. The heart doesn’t ‘think’ like that. It just loves. It throws caution to the wind and includes everyone in the discussion. It doesn’t draw impenetrable boundaries or lines in the sand.
“Remember the emphasis on the heart. The mind lives in doubt and the heart lives in trust. When you trust, suddenly you become centered.” ~ Osho
Besides – the heart isn’t as dumb as we make it out to be. According to Rollin McCraty, Director of Research at the Institute of HeartMath, the heart’s electromagnetic field is 5,000 times stronger than that of the cranial brain. This means that our hearts are taking in signals from our own bodies, and the world around us – other people, and energies, both seen and unseen. What’s even better? The heart acts as a sophisticated information encoding and processing centre that enables it to learn, remember, and make independent functional decisions – and it does this all without our ‘thinking.’ The HeartMath Institute gives us yet another reason to get out of our heads. The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body. The electrical field as measured in an electrocardiogram (ECG) is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the brain waves recorded in an electroencephalogram (EEG). So while we laud the academic feats of scholarly geniuses who wrestle with the material world, we ignore the greater wisdom of the heart. Our hearts are so smart that when we touch, signals travel to that beating lump in our chests that tell us a myriad number of things about the other person. In simple terms, it’s called energy exchange – and it is an intelligent act carried out primarily through the heart’s electromagnetic field.
“When you judge you project your shadows onto others. When you love you project your inner light.” ~ Aine Belton It is the thinking mind which separates, which judges, which tears apart, and it is the light of love that can wash away the troubles of this world. Health
Emotions + Depression The first thing I talked about was how depression, frustration and irritability come with PMS and Liver Qi Stagnation. However, Liver Qi Stagnation is responsible for any emotional troubles that come with or without PMS! The liver stores the “Hun.” In TCM, the Hun represents the psyche. When the liver becomes congested (and therefore stagnant with heat) the Hun becomes agitated due to the abundance of heat with no way to disperse it. Heat and stagnation in the liver are at the root of all emotional problems, including anger and depression. If this stagnant heat ‘wafts’ up to disturb the heart, it causes restlessness and anxiety.
from page 3
or repair work. This cyclic, uninterrupted flow of Qi through every organ at the right time represents the Western view of the endocrine system and the rise and fall of hormones in the body. We secrete different hormones at different parts of the day for very specific reasons. Anything that harms the liver obstructs the flow of Qi (since I mentioned that the liver is solely responsible for “spreading the Qi.”) Because Qi mirrors the Western concept of the endocrine system, this can be translated as: anything that harms the liver obstructs the flow of hormones. This makes perfect sense since, after all, hormones are indeed metabolized by the liver! And of course, all the issues we’re talking about here (cramps, PCOS, cysts, etc.) have an underlying hormone imbalance and relate to the reproductive system. Here’s how it works: The liver’s job is to spread the Qi
Cold in the Uterus
tt so if there is congestion in the liver,
tt there is congestion of Qi.
tt The Qi’s job is to move the blood,
tt so when the Qi becomes stagnant, the blood also stagnates.
tt Over time, congested or ‘stuck’ blood will do exactly as it sounds: clot and stick in places it shouldn’t. This leads to ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, myomas, and painful menstrual periods because the body is cramping up to expel your period. There is a lack of Qi to assist in moving the blood out. In such cases, the menstrual discharge is often dark or clotty. The Chong Mai, or “Thrusting Channel,” is an energy pathway that runs up the core of our body. It is also known as the “Sea of Blood.” When there is Liver Qi Stagnation, and thus stagnation in the lower abdomen, the Thrusting Channel is affected (which you can tell from the photo is where your menstrual flow would exit). Symptoms in the Chest and Throat The second area of the body that can manifest symptoms of Liver Qi Stagnation is the chest. This explains the chest symptoms we see with PMS: breast swelling, pain and tenderness. Fullness source: www.kundalinand stagnation iawakeningprocess.com in the liver will thrust up past the chest and then manifest in the throat. This can lead to hypertrophy of the thyroid gland and goitre, along with all types of thyroid imbalance – something else that’s common in those with PMS, cysts and the like.
Symptoms in the Stomach or “Spleen” In TCM, the “Spleen” stands for the entire process of digestion. Just of the “spleen” as the stomach. Energetically, Liver Qi Stagnation is a fullness of stuck
Page 22
energy in the liver. And unfortunately, this fullness gets vented onto the spleen. In this case, the liver invades the spleen, or as it’s known in Chinese medicine, the liver “attacks” the stomach.
Avoid candy and high sugar fruits due to their concentration of sweetness, and stick to warming/mildly sweet foods like sweet potato, sweet rice, pumpkin and squash.
Water Retention The Spleen is also in charge of transforming and transporting water in the body. If the spleen is empty, there will be water retention and bloating.
As shown above, the liver is the organ that can directly “attack” stomach. The root of IBS and gastrointestinal pain is actually the liver’s attack, because it’s ‘overcharged’ with heat due to being stagnant and full. This is why you shouldn’t eat while watching TV: Your eyes are connected to your liver. When you’re eating, you’re supposed to be focused on the food so that your spleen is charged and focused on digesting. If you are using your eyes to watch TV, you are charging your liver while your stomach is in motion. This gives your riled up liver a chance to attack! This liver fullness makes the spleen empty. An energetically weak or ’empty’ spleen explains the symptoms of diarrhea and constipation that come with IBS, gastrointestinal disorders and PMS.
Craving for Sweets Since the flavour that “tonifies” (or strengthens) the spleen is sweet, people with Spleen Emptiness due to Liver Qi Stagnation will crave sweets. Unfortunately, too many or too concentrated sweets will only further weaken the spleen.
Yang deficiency (a deficiency of heat) in the uterus is another huge contributor to the stagnation of blood and Qi. Overeating raw fruits and vegetables, iced or frozen foods and drinks, and drinking too many cold juices, are all contemporary Western causes for blood vacuity. This can cause blood stasis in the uterus due to cold invading the womb and be harmful to healthy menstruation if they are eaten just before or at the onset of menstruation (when they are often craved). Opt for lightly cooked vegetables, roots like sweet potato and hearty soups or stews.
Parasites Many people think that because we live in a first world country, we’re immune to parasites. This is quite the contrary and I urge you to look at the work Kerri Rivera

bring you back down to ground control [1. Focus on your inhales and exhales. 2. Practicing self-remembering. 3. Practice the “looking back” technique. 4. Incorporate somatic mindfulness into what you do. 5. Create physical distance. For more details: http://lonerwolf.com/how-toground-yourself/]
5. The obsessive need to control. As a control freak myself I know how much it sucks to constantly be in a frazzled, wired state. If you have the obsessive need to control everything you will be a master planner who tries to predict and coerce every situation into what YOU want, or feel you can handle. Of course, this equals humongous loads of stress and anxiety. Solution: The obsessive need to control is closely tied to being a perfectionist. Take a look at this article on perfectionism to get an idea of how to reduce your need to control: http://lonerwolf.com/the-perfectionist-personality/.
6. Wanting to be liked by everyone Wow ... I could write an entire book on this topic. Wanting to be liked by everyone is such a big issue that it’s like an epidemic. In a world where we’re taught to gain our
Unschool from page 6
around us, and it’s fun! That’s what unschooling teaches us. There are many more reasons, of course, and each person will find her own reasons. These are just a few of mine.
How to Unschool This is the hard part, because there is no right way to do it, no single way. And parents who are starting out always, always want to know how to do it. I know we did, and the honest truth is, we’re still figuring out the answer. Why is there no answer? Because every child is different. Everyone has different needs, interests, abilities, goals, and environments. What would you say if people told you there was only one way to live your life, one way to do your job? You’d hate it, because it would take away your freedom, and also all the fun. Telling you how to unschool is like taking away your freedom and all the fun out of it. The questions are everything, and the finding out is the fun. That said, I will offer some ideas of how we unschool, and some ideas of how you might approach things — but these are just ideas to start you out! n College bound. Our 16-year-old has decided he wants to go to college, and so studies for the SAT on his own, and is taking some free college courses online, and writes practice college essays on topics he chooses. He also learns things on his own, like programming or 3D animation, and plays the guitar. n Origami master. Our 13-year-old wants to get good at math, so does some math courses on Khan Academy (https://www. khanacademy.org). She also makes origami and weaves friendship bracelets and reads teen novels and Archie comics and plays piano and goes to the park to play basketball and likes to learn to cook. n Wolves and wizards. Our 8-year-old loves to read about wolves, and often will pretend he’s a wolf. Also a wizard or werewolf.
self-worth from external achievements and from how popular we are, it’s almost inevitable that nearly all of us fall into this trap. We let our fear of what other people think control our lives: others perceived thoughts become our prison cells. We have such a poor foundation of inner self-worth and love that we almost always seek it from sources outside of ourselves. When we override our authentic selves in order to be more likable and acceptable, we give away our personal power. This is very dire indeed. Solution: Learn to accept being unacceptable to others. Learn to embrace the absolute worst: being disliked. This doesn’t mean being an ass, but it does mean learning to honor your needs and wants. I like to picture the very worst that could happen if someone disliked me, e.g. “My conversations with them may be awkward, they may gossip about me …” etc. etc. But can I deal with that? Yes! And so can you. Here’s some further reading: Want To Be Liked And Accepted? Why You’ll Suffer. http://lonerwolf. com/liked-and-accepted/.
7. Playing the martyr or victim Adopting the role of a martyr or victim in any circumstance is an act of self-sabotage on an unconscious level. What is a victim? A victim is someone who believes that they have no personal power, and that they are a casualty of fate. They are defined by selfpity. What is a martyr? A martyr is a person who sacrifices themselves unnecessarily for others, using this as a form of manipulation. They are defined by self-sacrifice. Both of these roles sustain chaos and stress. He likes to play games and read with us and make up stories and draw. He’s pretty good at math on his own, though we don’t really study that with him much. n Forts and restaurants. Our 6-year-old likes to be read to and isn’t into reading on her own, though she’s been learning to read through games and reading with us. She doesn’t like math but will do it in games. She makes forts and art and likes to play outside and pretend she owns a restaurant or store. n The power of questions. When the kids ask a question, that’s an opportunity to find out something. We’ll look it up together, or look for books on it in the library. n People you know are incredible resources. If your kid wants to be a chef, you might know someone who is a chef or owns a restaurant. If your kid wants to create iPhone games, you might know a programmer. If your kid is interested in science, you might know a marine biologist. And so on. Connect them with these people. n Games are your best friend. Play all kinds of games. Don’t be concerned with what they’re learning. They’ll have fun, and learn that life can be play, and so can learning. n Fun projects. Working on art and science projects can be a lot of fun. n Pursue interests. If the kid is interested in something, show her how to find out more, or play with it. n Deschool. If you’re new to unschooling, and your kid has gone to school for awhile, it’s often a good idea to “deschool”. That means to not worry about learning or schooling for a while — a couple weeks, a couple months. The idea is to get them (and you) out of the mindset of schooling, which can be very difficult, because we’ve been trained to think in terms of school. We think we need to be productive teachers and students, and that school has to be done a certain way, and that if the kids aren’t learning something from an activity, it has no value. All that is crap, of course, so take some time getting out of that mindset. n Expose them. Learn to give kids a variety of stimuli — books and magazines lying around the house, watch shows about interesting things, play old board games, get out and
Solution: Think about the beliefs you have about yourself, others and life. Victims and martyrs are sustained by a barrage of unrealistic, illogical and harmful beliefs such as, “I can’t change my destiny,” “Humanity is always selfish,” “My self-worth comes from how much I give,” and so forth. You may like to read this article for additional help: http://lonerwolf.com/martyrcomplex-symptoms/
Solution: Examine all of the people you come in contact with on a daily basis. After all, it’s said that we are the end product of the five people we interact with the most in life. Are the people in your social circle supportive and encouraging, or are they jealous, demeaning and cynical? If it’s not possible to cut away these people from your life right now, I recommend keeping your distance and taking regular breaks from them.
8. Being slow to forgive yourself
Here’s What You Can Do Now …
Refusing to forgive yourself of any perceived failure, flaw or deficiency is the product of low self-esteem. The absence of self-love is a major cause of every form of stress and unhappiness. Solution: Learn to become your own best friend. Start the journey of self-love. Here is a good article to start: http://lonerwolf.com/how-to-love-yourself-more/
Picture, could be replaced if necessary with the quote itself “ Don’t Forget To Breathe. Re-read this article, particularly the “solution” parts of every point and think about how you can implement the advice into your life. Change can start in this very moment if you allow it. Finally, I recommend that you take time out every day to enjoy stillness. Find that space of silence within you and permit yourself to be cleansed by it. You are this stillness at your very core.
9. Poisonous people What defines a poisonous person? A poisonous person is someone who restricts your self-growth and who brings you down more than raises you up. Poisonous people are like black holes: they drain your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual energy leaving you like a hollow husk of your former self. If you are not grounded and if you don’t have the soulful capacity to tolerate poisonous people, the end result can be grim. Toxic people can be friends, family members, lovers, offspring or even colleagues.
explore your town, meet different people, find stuff together on the Internet. This exposure will help them to explore new interests — even if they don’t seem interested at first, the exposure will allow them to find new things on their own. n Learn as you go. The most important thing is that you need to figure out what works for you. Try different things. Play. Make things. Go out and do things, meet people, have fun learning about new things. Fun, always fun, never hard work unless it’s fun, never force, always get pulled. n Be patient. You won’t see “results” right away … changes in your kid will happen over time, as he learns that learning is fun and can be done all the time in lots of ways. You also might get frustrated that your kids don’t want to study or read or write papers or whatever. But instead, let him play music or play pretend games or read comic books or play outside. n Trust is important. It’s hard in the beginning (we’re still learning to do this), but it’s important to trust that kids can learn on their own, with minimal guidance, and that if they’re interested in something, they’ll learn about it. We all think children can’t learn on their own, but they can. Before you get the wrong idea, I should give credit to Eva for doing most of the unschooling work, and being better at it than I am (Eva is really great, though she won’t admit it). She has read more books and websites on the topic than I am, and does the majority of the unschooling on a daily basis (though I do help out as much as I can). I should also give credit to my awesome sister Kat, who inspired us to unschool, and is one of the most amazing unschooling moms I know.
More Reading This isn’t a definitive guide — I don’t have the experience or knowledge to write that guide. Better people than I have written much more on the topic, and while I can’t provide a comprehensive list, I will share some books and sites to get you started (many are from Eva and my sister Kat):

and Dr. Kalcker are doing for children with autism. Through a parasite protocol, diet changes, hyperbaric chambers and so much more they have been able to successfully recover 162 children of autism. These children pass huge parasitic worms – and lots of them. One child (the before and after photos can be seen in Kerri’s lecture video) had 5 jars worth of worms by the time he was recovered. Once I started parasite cleansing I was shocked at the sheer number of liver flukes I passed. Have you ever seen ‘tomato skins’ or ‘carrot pieces’ in your stool even though you hadn’t eaten tomatoes or carrots that day? Those are liver flukes. They plug up the pores in our liver and excrete waste into our blood, making it extremely hard for our Qi and blood to flow and clean itself normally. It’s important to parasite cleanse bi-annually and eat a diet so healthy that your immune system kicks the bugs out!
So how do we get Liver Qi Stagnation in the first place? 1. Stress and Emotional Burden – Most, if not all women with PMS have more than an average amount of emotional stress in their lives stretching back at least to puberty. Stress = frustration and anger, and the burden we face just keeps building. Our world is faster than ever and it’s impossible to keep up. 2. Environmental Stress – Our lives are incredibly stressful on an emotional level, but there’s an environmental and energetic war being fought as well. Our entire lifestyle generates more stress than the human organism is capable of withstanding. Background noise from our computers that are constantly on, background music everywhere we go, blaring televisions, EMF radiation from our phones that are constantly on our bodies, driving in cars, pollution, denatured processed food, politics, and more. The media constantly projects fear on us to keep us controlled whether it’s Ebola, measles, shootings, or terrorism. We’re bombarded with advertisements that tell us we’re not good enough and need to rush out to buy a product or service to make us acceptable to society. 3. Birth Control Pills – Birth control pills add hormones that are out of phase with the body’s normal periodicity. These synthetic hormones adversely affect the Liver’s spreading function and thus the energy of the entire body. This is why birth control pills are implicated in high incidences of pelvic and breast tumours, which according to TCM always begin as Liver Qi Stagnation. 4. Poor Diet – You know the deal. We are a Liver Stagnation Nation because of the the food we eat as a culture. There has never been a better time or reason to ditch the junk and put whole foods into your body. 5. Poor Sleeping Patterns – Look at the Chinese body clock! You are not supposed to be up past 9 or 10 pm. This is so important. You will never be healthy if you are staying up until midnight or 1 AM every night, even if you’re sleeping late the next day. After 11pm we enter gall bladder and liver time, and being awake or active during these hours directly causes Liver Qi Stagnation. 6. Lack of Exercise – We need to go on more hikes to move the blood and Qi and breathe the fresh air. Do more yoga and move that lymph. How to Treat Liver Stagnation and All That Comes With it:
DON’T LIST n Coffee, black tea, energy drinks, soda with caffeine. n Thick, creamy, or cheesy sauces. n Alcohol. Don’t do it! It’s too yang and charges up your liver causing the Qi to ascend, just like anger. Actually, that’s why alcohol can make people angry and violent. n Excessive sugar. n Fried and oily food. n Heavy, complicated, or oversized meals. n Late dinner and eating before bed. n Inactive lifestyle. n Repressing your feelings. Journal it out. Writing literally brings emotional and physical healing. n Excessive work and stress. Turn off the electronics!! In the last decade, electronics have taken over our lives in a whole new way. Constantly checking our smartphones creates agitation in our livers. n Ice cream, chilled foods and icy drinks. Cold = stagnation.
DO LIST n Eat real food! The best for liver Qi stagnation include:
Page 24
Arugula, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, Cardamom. Cayenne Pepper, Celery, Cilantro, Coriander Seed, Fennel Seed. Garlic, Grapefruit, Green Apples, Kale, Leeks. Lemon, Mint, Mustard Greens, Onion. Plums, Radish, Turmeric,Turnip, Vinegar, Whole Grains. n Exercise! When we sit, the Blood in our arms and legs returns to the liver for storage. This pooling of blood in the liver tends to aggravate the liver Qi stagnation. Exercise pumps this blood out of the liver and along with it, some of the stuck Qi. n Spend time relaxing with activities or people you like. n Breathe. One of the reasons why exercise is so helpful for Liver Qi stagnation is that you have to breathe harder and you get more oxygen into the body. Deep breathing is essential. Try lying in bed and breathing deeply 10 times before you fall asleep each night. At work, set an alarm at your desk to stop every 30 minutes and take 5 deep breaths. Or better yet, step outside and get 5 deep breathes of fresh air. n Use your liver acupuncture/acupressure points. Press these points off and on all throughout your day. You can use them when you wake up in the morning and especially whenever you are stressed or angry. Pressing on these points can also provide relief of menstrual cramps in the moment. n Deep relaxation and source: www.blog. daum.net meditation. What will get at the root of the full/stagnated liver Qi is deep relaxation. There is nothing that will do for your liver what meditation will do, if it’s done the right way. It must include the entire body: muscular relaxation – not just cerebral relaxation. It also must result in the centre of consciousness coming out of the head as found in deep meditation. It then must be done for a minimum of twenty minutes per day, but does not need to be done more than thirty minutes. And finally, it must be done every single day without missing a day for at least 3 months or 100 days. n Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine: Xiao Yao Wan. Xiao Yao Wan is the most amazing formula for Liver Qi Stagnation. The herbs in this formula disperse stagnant energy in the liver, regulating the secretion of hormones, especially estrogen dominance, which is so common due to pesticides, petrochemicals and xenoestrogens in items such as plastic. Preliminary research suggests that xiao yao wan may have antidepressant-like effects. In a study published in Phytotherapy Research in 2013, for example, tests on rats revealed that xiao yao wan may help fight depression by protecting against stressrelated changes in biochemistry. It has been traditionally prescribed for anxiety, depression, headaches, menstrual pain, premenstrual syndrome, pain alleviation, and mood improvement. It is also used to stimulate the digestive system and treat digestion-related health troubles. The important thing is that it treats the root cause: stagnation in the liver!

align with intention. And by achieving internal congruence between our emotions, our internal image, our thoughts, and our actions, then we resonate with the power of intention which is the force that intends reality into being and which makes existence possible at all (which from a logical perspective is an impossibility in and of itself ). Our greatest task in life is to cut away at the non-essentials within ourselves which is anything that does not enhance our connection with intent or which does not flow directly from intention itself. This process takes a lifetime, as it is the process of cleansing our connecting link with the universe. But with each obstruction we cleanse, we gain enormous power, and we give ourselves the opportunity to step into inconceivable new worlds, states of being, and lives. When you have contradictory desires, passions, and dreams within you, you are obstructing the universal force of intention and obscuring your connecting link with spirit. For until we have honed our state of being and unquestionable bodily knowledge to a point our desires will not manifest in our lives because our old energetic state of being and the new one we are trying to cultivate will be in a state of destructive interference. They will neutralize one another. That means that we must be in absolute harmony with what we desire internally. We must know that we are worthy of that desire, know that we are fully capable of manifesting that desire, and we must feel as an “unquestionable bodily knowledge” that it is already our present reality. Once again, this perfect internal alignment is brought about through sheer repetition. Diligent practice in other words. This knowing cannot be cultivated artificially. We can cultivate an internal image with our own power, with our thoughts, and we can imbue those images with the all-important energies of passion, desire, love, enthusiasm, and so on. But we cannot artificially create knowing. Knowing occurs when our state of being is finally perfected, once it has become precise and clear, and when our entire being, both the conscious and subconscious minds, our body, and spirit are all in alignment. When that occurs the universe resonates with our desire because we will be informing it clearly of our intention for the first time. And when this desire, which is really just a finely tuned frequency, resonates with the universe, that is what we call a powerful knowing, silently willing, and an unquestionable bodily knowledge. And that is what the power of intention feels like within your body. Until you have experienced this feeling you have not yet tapped into the power of intention, and you are not tapping into your full potential either. That should not be a discouraging message by any means. On the contrary, it should be a message of hope. Because if you look at your life as it is now and all you have (or have not) created, realize now that everything you have done and achieved so far was what you have done without harnessing your true power. Imagine now what you could create and who you could be if you mastered the art of tapping into the power of intention, and instead created with the power of the entire universe behind each and every one of your actions.

HE RELATIVELY RECENT discovery of the microbiome is not only completely redefining what it means to be human, to have a body, to live on this earth, but is overturning belief systems and institutions that have enjoyed global penetrance for centuries. A paradigm shift has occurred, so immense in implication, that the entire frame of reference for our species’ self-definition, as well as how we relate fundamentally to concepts like “germs,” have been transformed beyond recognition. This shift is underway and yet, despite popular interest in our gut ecology, the true implications remain unacknowledged. It started with the discovery of the microbiome, a deceptively diminutive term, referring to an unfathomably complex array of microscopic microorganisms together weighing only 3-4 lbs. in the average human, represents a Copernican revolution when it comes to forming the new centre, genetically and epigenetically, of what it means in biological terms to be human. Considering the sheer density of genetic information contained within these commensals, as well as their immense contribution towards sustaining basic functions like digestion, immunity, and brain function, the “microbiome” could just as well be relabelled the “macrobiome”; that is, if we are focusing on the size of its importance rather than physical dimensionality. For instance, if you take away the trillions of viruses, bacteria and fungi that coexist with our human cells (the so-called holobiont), only 1% of the genetic material that keeps us ticking, and has for hundreds of millions of years, remains. One percent isn’t that much for the ego to work with, especially considering it now has to thank what were formerly believed to be mostly “infectious agents” for the fact that it exists. Even more perplexing, the remaining 1% of our contributed DNA to the collective gene pool of the holobiont is at least 8% retroviral (yes, the same category as HIV) in origin!
Us Against Them? Once the object of modern medicine’s fundamental responsibility – the human body – is redefined and/or perceived with greater veracity, and “germs” become less other and more self, a challenge for germ theory which seeks to differentiate between the “good” germs we are versus the “bad” ones out there that we must fight with antibiotics and vaccines. As many readers are already poignantly aware, today’s political climate and agenda is unilaterally pro-vaccination on both sides of the aisle (conveniently funded by the same industry lobbyists), with a tidal wave of bills across the U.S. set to eliminate exemptions against mandatory vaccination. The rationale, of course, is that deadly germs can only be prevented from killing the presumably germfree host through injecting dead, weakened or genetically modified germ components to “prevent” theoretical future exposures and
How The Microbiome Destroyed the Ego, Vaccine Policy, and Patriarchy infection. This concept is of course intellectually infantile, and if you do some investigating you’ll find it was never quite grounded in compelling evidence or science. But the intellectual implications of the microbiome go even deeper than undermining germ theory, vaccine policy, and the culture of medical monotheism that upholds these constructs...
Maternal Origins of Health and Ultimately our Species Identity Deep within the substratum of humanity’s largely unquestioned assumptions of what it means to be human, the microbiome has also fundamentally displaced a latent patriarchal prejudice concerning the relative importance and contribution of the man and woman towards the health and ultimately the continuation of our species. It has been known for some time that only women pass down mitochondrial DNA, already tipping the scales in favour of her dominant position in contributing genetic information (the seat of our humanity or species identity, no?) to offspring. The microbiome, however, changes everything in favour of amplifying this asymmetry of hereditary influence. Since we are all designed to gestate in the womb and come through the birth canal, and since the neonate’s microbiome is therein derived and established thereof, it follows that most of our genetic information as holobionts is maternal in origin. Even when the original colonization eventually changes and is displaced through environmentally-acquired microbial strains as the infant, child, adolescent, and then adult, develops, the original terrain and subsequent trajectory of changes was established through the mother (unless of course we were C-sectioned into the world). Put in simpler terms: if 99% of what it means to be human is microbiome-based, and if the mother contributes most, if not all, of the original starting material, or at least the baseline and trajectory of future changes in the inner terrain, then her contribution becomes vastly more important than that of the father. Moreover, the conditions surrounding gestation (important because of maternal-tofetal microbiome trafficking in utero), her general health, and the way in which she gives birth (home, birth centre, or hospital) now take on vastly greater importance than previously imagined. In other words, being born in a hospital via C-section and vaccination, will produce, genetically and epigenetically, a human that is so different – qualitatively – from one born at home, naturally, that they could almost be classified as different species, despite sharing nearly identical eukaryotic DNA (remem-
ber, only 1% of the holobiont’s total).
The Scientific Inevitability of Birth Feminism Given this perspective, obstetric interventions are the archetypal expression of a maledominated paradigm that seeks to manage a woman’s birth experience with largely unacknowledged consequences for the health of our species. Protecting health and preventing disease has now been traced back to the origins of the microbiome, best expressed through natural birth in the home, which has been estimated to be as much as 1,000 times safer than a hospital birth despite propaganda to the contrary. In light of the new, microbiome-based view, the male role in protecting the health of women and children will be irrevocably downgraded in importance, not just professionally and medically, but biologically. (Actually, the role of the male has never been more important as it falls to him to protect the family from an entire civilization directed towards harming that very family. Ed.) First, it is interesting to look at the ancient roots of the biology-based psychospiritual disparities that exist between men and women, and which still influence today’s practice of medicine. It would appear that men have from the beginning of time envied the creative role of women in conception, pregnancy, birth and care-taking. Erich Fromm also described the pyschospiritual implications for men of this biologically-based existential disparity in terms of the phenomena of womb-envy, exemplified by the biblical passage where God takes a rib from Adam to “create” Eve – an obvious reversal of the natural order of things, reflecting the inherent impotence men feel knowing their creative potency is secondary importance. It has been said, rightly, that the most powerful thing in the universe is to create life (is this not why we attribute this to “God”), and the second most powerful thing to take it. It is no coincidence that history, since it’s inception as recorded, is largely a documentation of the history of wars, of men “creating meaning” by killing men, and establishing symbol systems intended to capture by proxy the creative power latent within every woman’s body and experience. And so, 10,000 years later, the world ruled by monotheistic, male-principled religious and cultural systems, both in secular and religious form, it seems that the facts of our biology are now intervening to shake up these largely subconscious belief systems in favour of an ancient truth: women are superior to men, fundamentally. (Though it is not a type of superiority to be used against the “weaker sex”: men, rather but to denote a higher responsibility, and perhaps
greater need to be supported by men to get the job done, together, as inscribed in the natural order of things and its inherent design.) The birth process, also, has been described as the closest thing to death without dying (it is ironic that anesthesiology, which could also be described in the same way, makes obstetrical interventions like C-section and epidural possible, at the same moment that it negates the spiritual experience of natural birth/women’s empowerment we are describing), offering women a window into the ‘in between’ and a direct experience of Source that men, less likely to experience it naturally would later emulate and access through the various technologies of shamanism. Clearly, protecting the microbiome is of utmost importance if we are making the health of our future generations a priority. Indeed, ensuring the health of our offspring is perhaps the most fundamental evolutionary imperative we have. How do we accomplish this? What is the microbiome but ultimately a selective array of commensal microorganisms that ultimately originated from the environment: in the air we breath, the soil we interact with, and the water and food, of course, we ingest. This means we can’t simply live in a hermetically sealed bubble of shopping for organic, non-GMO certified foods at Whole Foods, while the entire planet continues to go to post-industrial hell in a hand basket. Our responsibility becomes distributed across everything in the world, and every impactful choice then becomes relevant to the fundamental issue and imperative at hand. With the microbial biodiversity in Big Ag, GM-based agricultural zones fire-bombed with biocides, by the very same corporations that either own or distribute the “organic brands” we all love to think will save our bodies, if not the planet, we need to step deeper into our activism by stepping out of the diversions and palliative measures that don’t result in lasting change. When we work with the natural world, when we honour and acknowledge what is unknown about the complex web that we all share, we will bring back a vital health that now seems so far out of reach. When we engage technologies positioned in the war against germs and organisms, however, we are doomed to fail and to cripple not only our species but our home. on was its potential to relieve eye pressure in patients with glaucoma. Likewise, after studies in the 1970s showed that smoking marijuana could reduce symptoms in glaucoma sufferers, scientists tried (and failed again) to develop a way to administer THC in eye drops. The idea proved too complicated due to the fact that THC is not soluble in water. While some glaucoma patients rely on medical marijuana to this day, The American Glaucoma Society maintains the position that its effects are too short-lived (lasting 3-4 hours) to be considered a viable treatment option.
7) Sleep Aid Many are aware of the sleep-inducing effect of marijuana, and research shows that THC is largely responsible. In fact, trials conducted in the 1970s found that oral doses of THC helped both healthy individuals and insomniacs fall asleep faster. Interestingly, more recent studies suggest THC may also improve nighttime breathing and reduce sleep interruptions in those who suffer from a common disorder known as sleep apnea. Researchers are currently working to develop a THC-based medicine for treating the condition.
Other Uses For Cannabis With Overwhelming Anecdotal Evidence The fact that your body is replete with cannabinoid receptors, key to so many biological functions, is why there’s such enormous medical potential for cannabis. CBD may be the most potent and beneficial of the cannabinoids, particularly for tamping down an overac-
tive immune system, as is the case with autoimmune disease. CBD also has antipsychotic properties but does not get you high. Here are a few more serious conditions to which cannabis can substantially aid in treating:
Dravet Syndrome www.youtube.com/ watch?feature=player_ embedded&v=bx6niSTzm3o Dravet syndrome, also known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (SMEI), is a form of intractable, life-threatening epilepsy in which a child can suffer upwards of 100 seizures a day. Dr. Mercola explains, “Certain varieties of cannabis offer the only real hope for children with this type of disorder, as Dravet syndrome does not respond well to standard epilepsy drugs. Twenty to 30 percent of children with Dravet experience a significant reduction in seizures within days or weeks of using high-CBD, low-THC cannabis, with virtually no adverse effects. So for some, legalized marijuana is just one more option for entertainment, but others feel like it’s the difference between life and death.”
Cancer Over the past several years, dozens of studies point to marijuana’s effectiveness against many different types of cancer, including brain cancer, breast and prostate, lung, thyroid, colon, pituitary, melanoma, and leukemia. It fights cancer via at least two mechanisms, making it difficult for a cancer to grow and spread: 1. Cannabis is pro-apoptotic, meaning it triggers apoptosis (cellular suicide) of cancer cells, while leaving healthy cells untouched 2. Cannabis is anti-angiogenic, meaning it cuts off a tumour’s blood supply

Why We Need To Move Away From Prescription Drugs And Embrace Natural Cures Pharmaceuticals in general are among the leading causes of death in the US, you don’t have to look far to find research confirming that cannabis is safer and less toxic than many prescription drugs. Pharmaceuticals are know to cause liver and kidney toxicity, gastrointestinal damage, nerve damage, and of course death. Moreover, cannabinoids often work when pharmaceutical drugs fail, so not only is cannabis safer but it’s typically more effective. Dr. Margaret Gedde, MD, PhD, owner and founder of Gedde Whole Health and the Clinicians’ Institute of Cannabis Medicine, recom-
mends people do more personal research into medicinal cannabis in order to make the best decision about their own health. Some great resources that may be helpful include the following: 1. Cancer.gov, the US government’s cancer website, contains research relating to the use of cannabis 2. PubMed is a searchable public resource containing a vast amount of medical literature, including studies involving cannabis 3. The Journal of Pain is a publication by the American Pain Society with a long list of studies on the pain-relieving effects of cannabis 4. National Institute on Drug Abuse is an excellent resource, including information about preclinical and clinical trials that are underway to test marijuana and various extracts for the treatment of a number of diseases, including autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, inflammation, pain, and mental disorders.

SmartKlean Laundry Ball Product Review By Glennis Taylor
S
ince the days of scrubbing clothes in a river to the washboard at home, we have looked for better and less arduous ways of doing laundry. The old Maytag washing machine has been replaced with the modern front-loading machine. There is little elbow grease required on our part today, so we save hours of physical labour. Yet we still buy detergent and softeners and use volumes of water to keep our clothes and linens clean and fresh. Many of us are aware of the impact on the environment and choose to buy detergents that are “green” and less damaging to our planet. What if we could go a step further to reducing our washday “footprint” on the environment? There is a way. It is the genius of the laundry ball. It replaces the need for laundry detergent and fabric softeners and is also more cost effective. The SmartKlean laundry ball works out to about 13 cents a load and will last for a good 365 loads. One ball can replace between 20 to 40 containers of laundry soap and
softeners. The laundry ball produces no toxic trail, does not harm the clothes and cleans as effectively as the best detergents. Imagine just tossing the laundry ball into the machine and that is it. It works its magic on the load and you end up with clean clothes and bedding that harbour no detergent residue. I didn’t realize that about 2% of the weight of a garment that has been washed a number of times is actually soap residue that remains in the clothes. This can be problematic for those with sensitive skin as the residues can irritate the skin and even host bacteria and keep perspiration trapped in clothing. I was speaking with Darcy Chorley who has used and tested the SmartKlean laundry ball for himself and has distributed it to the marketplace for the past 7 years. Darcy explained that with us active west coast types, we may find that our active wear starts to smell bad within a short time of putting it on. It is the residue of soap in the garment that ends up trapping the perspiration and body oils in the material. When exercising and warming the fabric through activity, the trapped body secretions begin to smell. With the laundry ball there is no soap residue; thus eliminating that odour
that spoils our active wear. There are further benefits to using the laundry ball. It reduces the waste of packaging that comes with the use of big boxes of detergent. As there is no detergent to rinse out, it is not necessary to do a both a wash and rinse cycle. It is thus possible to reduce the volume of water used, by eliminating part of the washing cycle. The SmartKlean laundry ball works in cool water, so less power is required. There are no toxic chemicals to end up on our skin or to pollute our planet. How does the SmartKlean ball work? It involves an innovative technology that allows a physical mechanism to clean the clothes rather than the detergent’s chemical process. Detergents use chemicals, many of them toxic, to make the fabric surfaces more receptive to the water in the wash. The chemicals and surfactants increase the pH levels of the water and that results in the water being able to pull out dirt and oils in the fabric. The laundry ball has been constructed to facilitate the penetration of the wash water through the small pores or open spaces in the fabric by reducing the surface tension of the water and also increasing the pH. The water is then capable of pushing out the dirt and impurities through the fabric. Housed in the eco friendly BPA and PVC free plastic enclosure are special mineral
ceramic balls or beads developed and manufactured in Sweden. These medical grade bio-ceramics within the SmartKlean laundry ball result in several different changes to occur in the wash. The ionizing beads break the larger clusters of water molecules into smaller clusters that are able to go through the small spaces between the threads of the fabric. The water surface tension is reduced and the cluster size of water molecules is reduced from about 10 to 14 molecules per cluster to about 5 to 6 molecules per cluster. Another type of ball contained in the housing are the alakali balls that increase the water pH to help to lift out oils and dirt from the cloth similar to the action of detergents. There is an antimicrobial bead or ball that uses nano silver particles that address moulds and other microbial organisms. There is the chlorine removal ball that removes tap water chlorine, therefore protecting the material from destructive oxidation. There are 2 magnets that create a magnetic field to help in the reduction of water cluster size and also help to increase the level of dissolved oxygen in the water. As with detergents, some stain removal prep work may be required to get out stubborn stains prior to washing. For general laundry loads, the SmartKlean laundry ball is ideal for

of time. What we’re left with, after admitting this, are questions. In fact, we’re left with the only answer possible: To keep questioning, ad infinitum. When we do so, it’s like magic. The entire world opens up. The interconnectedness of all things reveals itself like the Universe is pulling a rabbit out of a cosmic hat. When it comes down to it, finitude says we’re individual, infinity says we’re interdependent with all things. Between the two, we flow. Interdependence is a way of feeling infinity, a way of being present with unity. We learn it in mediation. We learn it in solitude, listening to silence, away from the things of man. But it is through our individuality where we express ourselves. It is as individuals that we are able to converse. From these conversations, we inevitably discover answers. And we all too often become content with those answers. But answers tend to be perceptually finite, despite an all-encompassing actual-infinity. Don’t rely on tiny answers that pigeonhole infinity into finite spaces. Become a student of probability instead, and receive infinity. As Nietzsche foresaw, “We, aeronauts of the spirit!… it was our fate to be wrecked against infinity.”
4.) Time “Time makes ancient good uncouth.” –James Russell Lowell And yet time is all we have to make sense out of a universe where time doesn’t even exist (except perceptually). Perplexing indeed. Just the fact that the passage of time makes what use to “matter” no longer “matter” anymore, or what use to make sense just seem downright silly now, points to the conclusion that the only answer is to keep questioning. Time passes, and what once seemed so important is now decidedly petty, or even downright unhealthy. There are signs of it in our own
Spotlight from page 27
so many reasons. It works great on most types of fabric and in regular and HE machines. It is wonderful for loads of diapers, eliminating exposure of the baby from the chemical detergent residues. The physical agitation of the ball in the wash and the action of the components cause the
lives. There are signs of it throughout human history; from bibles to Korans, from Tibetan Books of the Dead to Tao Te Chings. Some things still make sense, but some things simply do not make sense anymore. And it’s those things that we ought to let go of, for our own health as a species seeking progressive evolution. The passage of time (whether it actually exists or not) is the ultimate regulator of truth. It puts things in perspective like nothing else except maybe death. It shows historically how we have acted both poorly and greatly, egotistically and selflessly, callously and compassionately, both as individuals and as a species. It is within the passage of time where giants stood, and still stand, as reminders of what to do and what not to do. Their shoulders hold compelling answers, sure, but even their answers should be questioned if we are to keep evolving ever-forward toward human providence. It was more than likely contemplating the passage of time that prompted Rumi to say: “Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.” Clinging to answers is the epitome of acting small. Creating better questions is the epitome of being in ecstatic motion. Unquestioned answers only stagnate infinite potential, whereas questioning all answers sustains infinite potential. Good unanswerable questions are like big carrots dangling just out of reach, keeping us on the move, compelling us to maintain our awe, our fascination, our utter transcendence of all answers, in order to always be in the ecstatic throes of becoming, and never complete. If constant fascination with Truth is what you seek. Close your eyes. Question everything. Stay there.
