Counselors, if you are looking for a way to engage with service members, please take a moment to see what Kuder Journey has to offer. DANTES provides no-cost education and career-planning programs for military members. A thorough introduction to the Kuder Journey Career and Transition System can aid in that process by providing a clearcut path to success.
College and career planning requires service members to learn about themselves first to ensure they choose the right career path for their future. Kuder Journey’s education and career counseling program is designed to help military students learn, assess, and plan based on personal interests, skills, and work values. With Kuder Journey, service members can develop a college and career plan tailored to their needs and interests to help make life’s journey easier and more rewarding. VolEd coun-
seling professionals have a unique opportunity to communicate and show service members how the Kuder Journey program can affect those possible life experiences through formal education, professional development, and career enhancement. Kuder Journey is a free, tool that service members can use to aid in the decision-making process.
The Kuder Journey website also helps service members with real-world skills such as writing resumes and cover letters, researching employers, and preparing for job interviews. Service members can create an electronic profile to share online with prospective colleges or employers.
The process contains five logical steps. It’s backed by decades of research and is accepted as an industry standard across various fields, including state, local, and federal government, as well as multi-state school systems.
One of the best features is that students are given lifelong access to a professional portfolio containing results from their assessments, cover letters, and resumes. That benefit allows students to track their development over time, reflecting all of the shifts in growth and development which may occur throughout a career.
Here’s a quick breakdown of all five steps:
Take an assessment - Students answer a series of questions regarding personal interests, values, and work preferences.
Kuder’s online assessments are based on over 85 years of research. These assessments give service members a focus on where to begin their search for career options.
Explore Occupations & Majors - Students are linked to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the defining authority on labor market activity, to research career options, employment trends, salary outlook, and more.
There are five categories for students to explore.
• Occupations suggested by assessment results
• Occupations by title
• Occupations related to a Holland Code
• Learn about Holland Code
• Occupations by Military Specialty
Plan for Education - Students are given a list of educational institutions providing degree programs based on assessment results.
• Education needed for favorite occupations
• Find schools
• Learn about financial aid
• Search for scholarships and grants
• Find apprenticeships
Plan for Work - Individuals are given a step-by-step guide to prepare for the career field of their choice.
Find a Job - Kuder Journey provides an abundance of employment resources to aid students in securing a meaningful career.
• Learn how to find job openings
• Research and learn more about a potential employer
