he Department of Defense (DoD) created the Commercial Virtual Remote (CVR) Environment to support the Department’s move toward a large-scale telework posture in response to the COVID-19 national emergency. This new tool called “Microsoft Teams” provides the DoD with enhanced collaboration capabilities for DoD teleworkers to facilitate continuity of operations throughout the duration of the emergency. Most of you have downloaded the App already to your work computers. Microsoft Teams is the ultimate messaging app for DANTES—a workspace for real-time collaboration and communication, meetings, file and app sharing, and even the occasional emoji! All in one place,

all in the open, all accessible to everyone. Here are a few reasons why you should use it: • • • •

Rich chat with text, audio, video, and file sharing. Have a private chat to develop an idea, then share it with the entire organization. Store all your files, docs, and more in one place. Integrate your favorite apps— Planner, Trello, GitHub, and many more.

Unfortunately, both the camera and the microphone are disabled on the NMCI computer. But you can plug in a headset and listen in on the conversation. You can also download the app to your personal computer or phone.

Microsoft Teams Here are a few questions that can help guide you through the process: How do I download the mobile app? To download the Teams mobile app, go to your mobile device and follow the link on https://www. microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app. Or download it from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store. How do I sign in to Microsoft teams? Once downloaded, tap the Teams icon, then sign in with username and password that was given to you through your work email. How do I change my settings? You can change your picture, status, themes, app settings, notifications, or language, access keyboard shortcuts, and more by clicking your profile picture at the top of the app, then select Setting>General. There’s even a glamour shot link that you can use, which I personally like!

below! Sometimes its difficult to start something new but I think the Microsoft Teams app can lead us into a more virtual future! If you have any questions please check out the Log-on Guide, talk to the CVR team or talk to Tim Blalock! For CVR support, DANTES users should reach out to the NETC_CVR_Champions at NETC_CVR_Champions@navy.mil . The NETC CVR Champions can walk you through setting up your milConnect profile correctly. Most account problems seem to stem from missing or incorrect values in milConnect. Please copy Tim when reaching out to the NETC CVR Champions so that I can monitor. If the Microsoft Teams application is not installed on your NMCI laptop, open a ticket with the NMCI Help Desk.

How do I know who is online? If someone is currently available on Teams, you’ll see a green circle and a check mark next to their profile picture. How do I invite people to use Teams? To add someone from DANTES to Teams, just open the app and send them a message or add them to a team. They’ll automatically get an email invite and a notification. How do I start a chat with someone? To send a private message, first click the “New chat” button at the top of the app to start a new conversation. Type the name of the person or people you want to chat with. Then, compose your message and click the “Send” icon. Don’t forget that you can add as many people as you want to the “To” field. To get more information on specific iOS/Android phones check out the User Log-on Guide attached

COVID - 19 UPDATED Defense Human Resources Activity Guidance Implementing Phased Return

I

n the next few months DHRA will be implementing a Phase Return for all personnel. At the local level, we are currently in what is referred to as Phase 0 (maximum telework). In order to go to Phase 1 (mission essential personnel may return to workplace), our region needs have a 14 day downward trajectory of influenza-like illness AND COVID-like symptoms; AND 14 day downward trajectory of COVID cases AND positive tests; AND health care available with robust testing. Once we execute Phase 1, we have another waiting period until we have the same 14 day downward trend listed above. This repeats for Phase 2 (mission essential and some others may return to Saufley) and Phase 3 (basically everyone may return to Saufley). Click on the photos below to see a more detailed plan:

Don’t Plug Unauthorized Devices into NMCI Assets!!! During the COVID-19 mass telework period, NAVNETWARCOM has identified an order of magnitude increase in the number of users plugging unauthorized USB devices into NMCI assets.

Users are reminded that they are NOT authorized to plug any unauthorized devices capable of storing data (e.g. cell phones, flash drives, etc.) into NMCI assets. Doing so WILL result in the user account being disabled and referral to the command Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) for investigation. External drives approved by the command ISSM are authorized. FOR ASSISTANCE: Contact the NMCI Service Desk at 1-866-THE-NMCI (1866-843-6624) or by e-mail at ServiceDesk_Navy@nmci-isf.com.

THE DANTES FAMILY

Tell us about your family? My husband, Jay, was an attack helicopter pilot (Apache Pilot), and retired a few years ago from Active Duty Army. He is now fully retired and enjoying beach life and fishing, since moving to Florida. My daughter, Carla, will be starting High School this year. She is in all Honors Classes, and was on the Academic Challenge Team for her school. She is also a school athlete: Swim and Track. She has always thought of herself as a Military Kid, and was very involved with the Military Youth / Kids Summer Camps and 4-H Camps over the years, and is hoping to be a Youth Camp Counselor next summer. What are your hobbies? I enjoying gardening, going to the beach, and traveling. I have recently become fascinated with Beekeeping, and have a few friends that have picked up the hobby. Once we are fully settled from the move, I am planning to start pursuing getting connected with our local Beekeeping Association and the training class they offer.

W

e have a new team member here in DANTES! Her name is Emily Bachman! She joined our team on 26 May 2020 as the Outreach Coordinator in the Voluntary Education Enterprise Support section. Send her an email and welcome her to the family! Here are some fun facts about Emily!

Do you have any pets? We have a Dalmatian, named Enzo. Some would say he is a little spoiled, but I think he is well loved. His favorite things are going to the Doggie Beach at Pensacola Beach and snuggling with whomever will let him sit next to them on the couch.

Where did you work before this position? I worked as an Airman & Family Readiness Program Manager for the Ohio Air National Guard, specifically with the 179th Airlift Wing and 200th Red Horse, based in Mansfield, Ohio. It was an honor and privilege working around such a wonderful Wing and great group of dedicated Airmen.

Who inspires you? My Mom and Daughter both inspire me. I see so much strength and spirit in each of them. Even as an adult, I still talk to my Mom throughout the week. She is the person I want to share good news with, and when I am going through challenges, the person who lends me an ear to talk to. In my Daughter, I see this same compassion, but also a little spunk. As a Mom, I look at her and am so proud of the young lady she has become and excited to see her continuing to develop. She makes me want to continue striving to be the best version of myself.

Have you ever been in the military? Yes, I served as a Dental Assistant in the Army. I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in one of the few Dental Field Units in the Army. Where are you from? I was born and raised in Washington State, however, I spent most of my adult life living throughout the Southern States and overseas in Germany.

Anything else you would like to tell us? I’m excited to be joining the DANTES team, and look forward to working with this amazing organization! 5

Hurricane Preparedness information Hurricane Season: June 1st – November 30th

H

urricane season for the Atlantic basin begins June 1st and ends on November 30th every year. The US Navy uses “Conditions Of Readiness” or CORs to prepare for tropical events inbound. CORs are set with the timeframe in hours and expectation of 50 knots of wind occurring on an installation. By June 1st of each year, COR 5 is set for installations in Region Southeast.

This condition is set because, within the Region, especially the installations adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico, a tropical system has, in the past, can currently, and has the potential to develop and move onshore within 96 hours. Hurricanes Erin and Opal in 1995 proved that theory, coming ashore in Pensacola, Fl. as significant hurricanes.

Conditions of Readiness (CORs) COR 5: Destructive winds of > 50 kts are possible w/in 96 hrs COR 4: possible w/in 72 hrs COR 3: possible w/in 48 hrs COR 2: anticipated w/in 24 hrs COR 1: anticipated w/in 12 hrs
