Hello Neighbors!

Happy New Year! If you are anything like me, January is a time to (attempt) to start the new year with a clean slate. I get the urge to purge my home of unnecessary clutter and prioritize my familiy’s heath and well being. Even though it is crisp outside, we’re so blessed with the ability to hop on the Iron Horse Trail for a walk with friends or even a great hike in the Las Trampas Hills...all in our backyard.

Our cover family this month is the Peters family. This fun and athletic family is the perfect bunch to show us all how lucky we are to live in Danville. You’ll also get a chance to look back at the incredible year our local sports have had; from a banner year for SRVHS Football, Mustang Soccer to Diablo Heat Cross Country. We also have a fantastic array of articles to help you get organized in your home, finances, mental and physical heath. We have got you covered and ready for 2023!

Remember, if you have a story to share or know a neighbor that you would love to see on our cover, please send me an email at aangstenberger@bestversionmedia.com. We welcome all families, couples, or individuals - the only requirement is that our feature family live on the west side of Danville. So send your friends and neighbors my way, I can’t wait to meet them!

See you around town!

Meet the Peters Family Making Memories Together

Jared and Dana met in “America’s Finest City,” San Diego, also Dana’s hometown! Dana had been living and working in New York City, ultimately finding her way back home to San Diego. As luck would have it, the two young professionals decided to try an online dating site and ended up meeting “the one” after their first 6 hour date. After a year of dating, Jared proposed in the Little Italy area of San Diego, which is a picturesque neighborhood filled with iconic restaurants, shops and architecture. In 2012, Dana and Jared married and sealed the deal on their partnership and commitment to bringing out the very best in each other.

The Peters family is no stranger to athletic excellence and competitive sports. Jared represented the University of North Dakota as an All American Swimmer and Team Captain for the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jared was invited to join the Advanced Development Program at Ingersoll Rand, allowing him to work and travel all over the country. The passion Jared shares in building teams that help businesses “identify and finance energy efficiency, decarbonization and net zero solutions” continue today. Dana also had her time to shine as a stellar athlete, receiving a full-ride scholarship to play D1 Volleyball at Hofstra University in New York. Even tough she “never envisioned leaving San Diego,” she “didn’t ask any questions” and took full advantage of the amazing opportunity to study, play, live and work in New York. Dana received her BA in Public Relations and Psychology and shortly after, an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, ultimately working as a Marriage and Family Therapist. For six years, she specialized in the treatment of eating disorders and other co-occurring disorders, such as anxiety and depression. In recent years, Dana has shifted her practice to Life Coaching, and due to Covid, (and moving to the Bay Area) much of her practice has been remote. In the summer of 2022, her physical office

reopened in nearby downtown Lafayette. Dana’s passion is to assist others to “improve their overall happiness and well being.” She is also focused on helping her clients “create meaningful relationships both professionally and personally.” Dana truly cares about helping others experience their best life possible. We could all use a little (or a lot) of that!

Jared and Dana have two beautiful children, Avery (10) and Ethan (7). Even though they were born into an uber-competitive and athletically talented family, it’s important to Dana and Jared that their children personally love their activities by their own accord. The family are members at Del Amigo Pool where both children participate on the Swim Team, and both Avery and Ethan also play Mustang soccer. Additionally, Avery can be found playing with Maple (the family’s sweet, 95 pound Bernedoodle), spiking a volleyball for NorCal, or touting her selfproclaimed title of the “biggest Taylor Swift fan in west side Danville.” In school, Avery loves reading, art, social studies, writing, practicing her debate skills in hopes to become a lawyer in the future. Little brother, Ethan, keeps up with the best of the family by building Legos, imagination, live-action video games, and flag football. Ethan has a slew of talents, including “speed, sports, dancing and taste testing.” Anyone who knows him, agrees!

Resident Feature

to new places and making the most of their summers together are very important to the Peters family. Jared loves boating and all water sports. Thankfully, the family loves it too, and you can find them on Lake Berryessa most summers. The Peters family also takes their love for lakes to Minnesota, visiting family, roasting marshmallows, tubing, water skiing and enjoying more of that lake life! When they stick closer to home for road trips, Tahoe, Avila Beach, Russian River and San Diego are family favorites. Jared is also involved in the Montairs Dad’s Club, and coaching Mustang Soccer. As a Minnesota Vikings fan, you can

Nominate

find him at Primos cheering on his team with his buddies. Dana loves spending her free time volunteering at the children’s school for parties and field trips….”they are only young once” she rightfully proclaims. Dana also enjoys hiking, biking and outings with family and friends.

One of their favorite things the family enjoys about living in Danville is their proximity to Hap Magee Park, the Iron Horse Tail and Downtown Danville. Since they bought their home in December of 2019, the Peters family have been able to reap the benefits of a quiet, family friendly street with amazing neighbors. You can find them enjoying having their neighbors over to play games, dinner, zip line or even test out their ninja warrior skills. The wonderful people, small town ambiance, family centered environment that Danville prides itself on, is something of great value to the Peters family. Dana has said “We are especially thankful for the friendships we have developed in our community. Living here wouldn’t be the same without them.”

If the Peters family had a family motto to live by, it would be “making memories.” In moments that can be very stressful (like their boat overflowing with water or losing luggage after a long flight), the Peters family knows that they need to flip the script on the situation and make the best of it…after all, they are “making memories.” Dana says “it’s a good reminder to take the hard moments in stride and try to make the best out of the worst situations.” We are so pleased they have chosen to “make memories” here in Danville, our community is better for it!

SRVHS Wolves make it to State Championship

followed SRV for several years, and now they’re Northern California 2-A Champions. For the first time, they are headed to State!

What a journey it’s been. I’m glad I have had the opportunity to focus on some of their finest moments during this past season. Their work and determination on a common goal led them to get the opportunity to face the Granite Hills Eagles in Southern California on December 10, 2022.

I was not able to attend this game, but I listened to every play on the radio broadcast. What a battle it turned out to be! SRV fell behind in the first half, but the offense, led by Baker, could not be stopped for long. SRV came back and forced the game into overtime. Though SRV fell short, in the end to match 7 points in OT, the Eagles made in the first drive of OT to end the game at 31-24.

What a battle. What a season. In all my years of covering SRVHS, this team had such a family and one goal vibe.

Mount Diablo Heat Athletes Win National Cross Country Team Title

College Station, TX — The 2022 USATF National Cross Country Junior Olympics were held on the Texas A&M University Dale Watts Croups Country Course over the weekend with over 10 events held by gender and age group.

Thirty-three members from the Mount Diablo Heat running club qualified during local and regional races to compete in the championships with thousands of top youth runners from around the country.

Mount Diablo Heat’s Group 1 boys ”ran” away winners of the 2K national team title. The small, but mighty team of 7-8 year old runners included: Ean Hernandez, Ethan Hernandez, Jonah Kalman, Isaac Murdock, Craig Thompson, and Cyrus Walker.

“For months, these athletes have worked hard and played hard. They have developed a love of the sport and true support of each other. A national championship is just the icing on the cake!” said Danville Head Coach, Katherine Loberg.

In addition to the Group 1 boys team title, six Mount Diablo Heat runners placed in the top twenty-five of their respective age groups, earning individual All-American titles: Jack Arneson (3K Group 2, age 9-10), Eli Hernandez (3K Group 2, age 9-10), Ethan Hernandez (2K Group 1, age 7-8), Craig Thompson (2K Group 1, age 7-8), Cyrus Walker (2K Group 1, age 7-8), and Dylan Wong (3K Group 3, age 11-12).

Mount Diablo Heat (MDH) is a USATF sanctioned youth running club serving athletes ages 7-15 in the Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and surrounding areas. MDH holds fall Cross Country as well as spring Track & Field seasons with USATF certified coaches. For more information visit www.mtdiabloheat.com or mdhrunstrong@gmail.com.

Hair

loss should not be something that bums you out every time you look in the mirror or take off your scarf, hoodie or baseball cap. Recent studies have estimated that more than 80 percent of men and nearly half of women experience hair loss during their lifetime. If you are one of them, the good news is that there are many new and innovative technologies… and improved surgical and non-surgical hair restoration options that have been developed in the last 10 years. Gone are the days of bushy hair plugs and implant corn rows. Today’s hair restoration procedures deliver almost indiscernible, natural looking results.

At our recently expanded Blackhawk Hair Restoration center, we offer technologically advanced procedures such as the latest ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplantation IX, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) hair transplantation, as well as our proprietary and increasingly popular HairMAXX non-surgical protocol (medical microneedling) and platelet-rich plasma hair growth therapy (PRP) that have helped many patients achieve great results without the need for surgical transplants.

Our hair restoration team consistently stays on top of the latest advances in technology. We have over 50 years combined experience treating thousands of hair loss cases. We pride ourselves in delivering the absolute best care and results for both men and women so every patient can have a good hair day, every day of the year.

This month, Blackhawk Hair Restoration is excited to announce a new 100% complimentary virtual or in-person hair consult service conducted by our resident hair expert, Adriane McDonald, RN BSN. This private, no-obligation service is only being offered to current or prospective patients of Blackhawk Hair Restoration.

Adriane has assisted with over 10,000 hair restoration procedures. Prior to joining the Blackhawk Hair Restoration team, Adriane was the Director of Clinical Operations and Practice Manager for the Silicon Valley Hair Institute. Her celebrated skills in surgical techniques and patient advocacy has earned her wide-spread recognition as a leading hair restoration practitioner and lecturer throughout the industry.

If you are interested in learning more about our many surgical and non-surgical hair treatments and procedures, please contact us at either 800-GOT-HAIR (468-4247) or 925-736-5757 to schedule a free, no-obligation hair consultation. You can also contact Adrianne directly by phone at 707-592-5779 or by email at: adriane@ blackhawkplasticsurgery.com.

How to Create a Financial Plan for Your Small Business

Many small businesses have small teams but aren’t able to employ entire financial teams with accountants, analysts, and other personnel to help with financial planning. But if you take the time to create a financial plan, you’ll find that the benefits last for years to come.

Financial plans look at the overall economic well-being of the business, no matter how big or small. All financial plans should contain a few key items so investors, loan officers, and others can quickly assess a business. A financial plan should be able to answer the following questions;

• How will the business make money?

• What does the business need to get off the ground?

• What is the operating budget?

What is included in a financial plan?

In addition to financial information (income, expenses, assets, etc.), a financial plan should include your business strategy and the goals you have for your business. This can mean looking at any equipment you need (and the debt you take on for that purchase), the staff you need to hire, and other resources you will need to achieve your goals. Next, create financial projections by anticipating your expenses and your sales forecasts. Finally, develop two to three scenarios (aggressive, incremental, and low-to-no growth) and present the findings.

What financial information should be included?

An income statement – a profit-and-loss statement (P&L) – is a must

as it lists the cost of goods, operating expenses, revenue streams, and net profit/loss. A financial plan should also include a balance sheet that specifies your current assets, liabilities, and equity. Small business owners should also consider a sales forecast in their financial plans, especially when looking for loans or investors. Lastly, and perhaps the most crucial part of a financial plan, is the cash flow statement. This statement shows when you have cash coming in compared to your profit over a certain period. For example, you might have a cash flow issue if you are always paying bills late because revenue comes in sporadically. Your financial plan can help prepare for cash flow timing issues.

If you are a small business owner looking to expand your business in the new year, now is the time to start putting together your financial plan. Lenders will ask for your P&L statement, gross margin, debt-toequity ratios, and, most likely, your break-even analysis so they can determine the sustainability of the business. While putting together a financial plan may feel overwhelming initially, the benefits will be evident as you can anticipate financial issues before they arise and have backup plans that can be set in motion.

A trusted banking professional can give small business owners the confidence to create a financial plan. The relationship managers at Community Bank of the Bay (https://www.bankcbb.com/business/ loans/ ) are equipped and prepared to help small business owners develop financial plans and secure funding to help expand their businesses.

Buy Before you Sell!

It’s a great time to buy your next home before selling your current home!

Are the grandkids wishing you lived closer?

It’s that time of year when the grandkids come to celebrate the holidays and sometimes the topic of conversation shifts to, “Grandpa, I wish you lived closer…”

If you have been considering moving to be closer to the grandchildren but have been reluctant to look into it because the thought of selling your home before moving is so daunting, there is great news:

Buying your next home before having to sell your current home has never been easier!

What are the benefits of buying before selling?

Everyone’s circumstances are different, but for those with significant equity there are several advantages to purchasing your next home before having to sell. Some of the benefits include:

• Go online to preview homes you want to buy… now!

• Make a non-contingent offer on the home you like, being able to close in two weeks or less.

• Stay in your current home while remodeling the new one, if necessary.

• Move on your timeline and without a buyer of your current home pushing you out.

• After moving, list your home vacant and fully staged to get top dollar.

Is this you?

Are you a seasoned homeowner looking to purchase in a retirement community, be closer to the grandkids, or just have a smaller single-story home with less maintenance? Are you looking to move to another state before having to sell your current home, embark on a road trip under your terms, and then sell your old home after renovating it?

A simple process

• Buying before you sell takes four easy steps:

• Buy your new home before listing your current home

• Move into your new home at your leisure

• Renovate, stage, and sell your old home for top dollar

• Tell everyone how easy it is!

How is this unique?

If your situation is the right fit, we can originate a short-term bridge loan against your new property, existing property, or both – making sure you get from here to there as smoothly as possible by “bridging” the transaction.

• We use cash, not institutional funds, so there are less “cooks in the kitchen”, so to speak.

• We meet personally with you, in person and in the comfort of your home, to explain the process, discuss costs, and put everything in writing. It is a free consultation.

• If everything looks good, you can be qualified that day and begin looking at homes immediately.

You can do this – and we can help

We provide fast and simple solutions for homeowners. If you have substantial equity in your existing home and want to buy a replacement before having to sell or even list it, we’re ready to get it done. Contact us today to get started!

You Can Get There From Here:

Navigating 2023

It’s a new year - 2023! As a community, a state and a country, we have survived a lot. But is survival enough? Last week I was lost and late trying to find the tennis courts for my scheduled USTA match. Fortunately, it was Saturday, and everyone was walking their dogs. I paused and asked a friendly couple for directions. The response I got was, “You can’t get there from here.” What a fabulous comment!! How often do we stop searching because we have already recognized roadblocks to our dreams and goals? Sometimes, it feels much easier to set aside our vision instead of challenging the tangible and intangible boundaries that we or someone else set to reach our destination.

What would happen if we aspire to challenge the barriers that limit us? Risk something or forever sit with your dreams (Herb Brooks). The opportunity to define what holds us back and then work out a plan to conquer the barrier that limits our goals may be the key to creating a fabulous 2023. I invite you,

challenge you, to consider what you would like to accomplish in 2023. Now, reflect on what holds you back from accomplishing this goal. What keeps you from believing that you can’t get there from here?

Let’s make 2023 the comeback of YOUR BEST SELF. Whether achieving career goals or personal challenges, you are the one who can carve out the blueprint to build your road. You can navigate your own story. You can get there from here. If you are still limited by barriers, let’s navigate options together. Reach out to me, Christina Dalton at EYHLifeCoach.com Let’s make your dreams of 2023 attainable.

Noticing Changes in Your Loved One? The Difference Between Dementia & Normal Aging

The holiday season is a great time to reconnect and spend time with family. During your holiday gatherings, you may have begun to notice small changes in mom or dad. Forgetting names and past events, or misplacing items may be more common. Changes in behavior and personality may be apparent as well.

While many of these changes are part of the natural progress of aging, some may be early signs of Alzheimer’s and other dementia-causing diseases. It’s important to know which signs are warning signs of dementia vs. age-related cognitive impairment:

It may be Alzheimer’s or dementia if your loved one:

• Often become disoriented or gets lost.

• Repeats stories or questions.

• Misplaces items or places items in odd places.

• Has difficulty concentrating.

• Has increasingly exhibited aggressive behavior or a change in personality is not typical of their normal demeanor.

It may be age-related cognitive impairment if your loved one:

• Is forgetful at times, such as forgetting where they have placed their keys or forgetting an appointment.

• Has difficulty finding words, such as remembering the name of certain objects, however still understanding its use and purpose.

• Finds it more challenging to focus on complicated tasks such as money management or driving in high-stress situations like entering or exiting the freeway.

The best way to know for sure is to speak with your loved one’s primary care provider. Many other diagnoses can mimic dementia symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, UTIs, or other unrelated conditions. They can complete a full assessment to see if there are any other underlying causes of confusion, forgetfulness, or any symptom your loved one may be experiencing.

Reaching out to your local experts can help you in your journey as a family navigating Alzheimer’s and dementia. The team at Carefield Pleasanton is always available to answer your questions about memory care for your loved one, and the benefits of a community.
