Feedback/Ideas/Submissions:
One of my favorite months of the year in Danville is March! We finally enter the time period of longer days, emerald green hills, and, for the most part, can skip the bulky coats to keep us warm. Let’s enjoy these moments and hope the groundhog was correct this year...I’m sensing spring is just around the corner here in Danville!
In our March issue you will be delighted to read about upcoming events around town, such as The Gadgets Galore Exhibit, the town’s new Sidewalk Stroll, and of course, activities to help you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Our Feature Family this month is the Gerbich Family. Kylie and her husband, Christian, are excited to share their fun story of how they settled down here on the westside and are thrilled to raise their growing family in Downton Danville.
Have feedback, ideas, or submissions? We are always happy to hear from you! Deadlines for submissions are the 10th of each month. Go to www.bestversionmedia. com and click “Submit Content.” You may also email your thoughts, ideas, and photos to: aangstenberger@bestversionmedia.com.
If you have a story to share or know a neighbor that you would love to see on our cover, please send me an email at aangstenberger@bestversionmedia.com. We welcome all families, couples, or individuals - the only requirement is that our feature family live on the west side of Danville. So send your friends and neighbors my way, I can’t wait to meet them!
See you around town!

Meet the Gerbich Family
Building their community: Dogs, Food, Friends and Fun!
By Anne Angstenberger, Resident since 2006
Photos provided by The Gerbich Family
Originally from the Gulf Coast in Texas, Christian Gerbich found his match with his college sweetheart, Kylie Fahey. The Danville native, Kylie, met Christian while they were students at Texas A&M. Both Kylie and Christian graduated from Texas A&M in 2014, Kylie with a degree in Economics and Christian with a degree in Civil Engineering. At the Danville Tree Lighting in 2015, Christian proposed to Kylie and they were married at Saint Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco in July 2017, complete with a Cable Car ride to the Julia Morgan Ballroom for their reception. Coming back home to California was a natural choice as Kylie’s family has strong ties to the East Bay. The couple has lived in the East Bay now for the past 10 years and are excited to raise their growing family here in Danville. Brady, the Gerbich’s 3 year old daughter, loves riding her scooter in the neighborhood and can be frequently seen looking out for friends or neighbors to play with outside. She loves riding on the sidewalks of downtown, participating in library activities, and scooting all throughout Hap Magee and Hemee Station Park. Brady will soon be a big sister, as the Gerbich family will add another baby to the family in April!
Having attended Rancho Romero, Stone Valley and Monte Vista High School, Kylie was excited to help others find their dream home and become embedded in the local community. She is currently a full time broker with Elation Real Estate Brokerage, and places a priority on being socially responsible and giving back to the community. Kylie has led service projects with many organizations, such as, Locals Supporting Locals, the Valley Humane Society, Kids Against Hunger, and Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness. One of Kylie’s favorite hobbies is spending time with neighbors and friends and networking with locals that share common interests. Kylie started “East Bay Doodles,” after walking their dog to the dog park and enjoying chatting with other owners. She began putting fliers at dog parks and local message boards to organize in person meetups for Doodle owners. Kylie says that “I have met some of my best friends, watched others find their “tribe”, and host monthly in person meetups and events, plus a 3,000 person Facebook group with local dog lovers.” While the group has mostly doodles of all shapes, sizes and colors, we have many other breeds as well. The group is mostly about dog lovers who
share dog sitting swaps, groomer/vet recommendations and tips/tricks for dog training. Their 6 year old Australian Labradoodle, Johnny, is the face of “East Bay Doodles” and is known around Danville for his “man bun” and smile.
Christian is a Civil Engineer, and worked in fire protection design for the past 8 years. Recently, he has made a career change and provides consulting for a construction management software company, Procore. When Christian first moved to the East Bay from Texas, he began mountain biking on the weekends to pass the time while Kylie was busy working. Now he has fallen in love with our regional parks and local trails and has become an avid mountain biker, traveling all over the world to ride, even riding in picturesque San Sebastián, Spain. Now Christian loves supporting local trail maintenance programs to keep our trails and parks safe for riders and the natural habitat. Together, Kylie and Christian share the love of hosting friends and family and watching college football. Smoking meats has also become a passion for Christian, and Kylie says that “Christian cooks while I entertain! Our home is always filled with friends and family…a safe space for people to come and enjoy a fabulous meal and a good time!” You can often find them on the weekends visiting the Danville Farmers’ Market, shopping locally, and bringing all of their goodies back home to get ready to host game nights and block parties
The Gerbich family feels a special connection to the East Bay as Kylie’s grandfather, Richard H. Fahey, was one of the first residents of San Ramon and instrumental in the incorporation of the cities of Dublin and San Ramon. In 2012, the City of San Ramon dedicated a park in his name for his contribution in championing community infrastructure. The entire family has a bond to this area and tries to live out “Popsi’s” values by getting involved in organizations to better the local community such as; East Bay Regional Parks, Save Mount Diablo, first responders, teachers and local business owners. Kylie and Christian had always dreamed about living on the westside of Danville
8 MARCH 2024 Resident Feature
and had been saving for years to buy a home. As luck would have it, Kylie’s childhood friend’s parents were planning to sell their home in the Garden Creek neighborhood, and they called her to list the property. All the pieces fell into place and Kylie and Christian were able to buy the house…it was “meant to be!” They feel very fortunate to be living in their “village” where they’ve met true best friends from all walks of life and cultures. They love their location next to the San Ramon Creek and iconic Danville oak trees where children grow up exploring, playing in nature and feel safe….”our neighbors work hard, look out for each other, socialize daily and have extreme pride in home ownership.” Even though the Gerbich family also loves to travel… they have been to over 30 of the 50 states and have been lucky enough to travel the world for weddings in the recent past…both Kylie and Christian feel “there is so much beauty and history in our own backyard,” that they are perfectly content to be at home here on the westside. Be sure to say hello to the Gerbich Family when you see them in town, you may be lucky enough to meet Johnny and the newest little Gerbich baby!

St. Patrick’s Day Pub Cheese
By Stephanie Seaberg, Resident since 2010
St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, and I’m reminded of the long gone years when I would head downtown with my friends to cram into any old rundown pub for a fun night of drinks and laughs. Two things were always mandatory: A good beer and a nice big bowl of pub cheese with vegetables for the table. Pub cheese is an eclectic blend of cheeses, spices and beer that create a deliciously garlicky spread that anyone would love. While most people often think it originates from Ireland, it was actually invented in Kentucky in the 1930s. So, if you plan to attend a St. Patrick’s Day party this year, bring this dip with lots of celery and carrots, and get ready for the compliments.
Time: 10 minutes
Note: Requires a food processor You will need;
• 8 ounces Irish cheddar, freshly shredded
• 8 ounces Swiss cheese, freshly shredded
• 4 ounces or a half block of cream cheese
• 1/2 C. (Plus extra if needed) of Light Irish beer like Harp lager
• 2 cloves fresh garlic (don’t use jarred garlic)
• 1 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
• 1 teaspoon paprika
Putting it together;
Start by putting all your cheeses into the food processor and allow it to blend for 30 seconds so the cream cheese can incorporate. Then add the garlic, mustard, paprika and finally the beer. Blend it for two minutes. If it still looks too chunky add a little bit more beer. It will almost have the consistency of hummus, but not as smooth. I don’t normally add salt, but feel free to add some if you like your dip on the saltier side. Remove it to a bowl, cover tightly and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving. Goes perfectly with celery, carrots, and buttery crackers. Leftovers are also delicious in a sandwich.
Stephanie Seaberg has lived in the East Bay for the last 30 years, and is a SRVHS Alumni. Steph is a play-writer and director for Theater Performance Workshop, KAOS Camp, and Golden Oak Montessori. Steph lives for cooking, theater, photography, travel, and singing.

Is an ADU Right
By Lisa Hopkins-Cochran, Realtor® at Compass
Do you need more space? In 2020, almost everyone wished for a larger home, when our homes became our world. The passage of SB 9 in 2021 was designed to create more housing in California, but it also made the idea of adding a backyard cottage, also known as an accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, an option for many more homeowners. While adding an ADU to your property still requires approval and permits, the state has now made sure that it is much easier to do so, by requiring cities, towns, counties and even homeowner’s associations to accept the state’s guidelines.
The change in legislation opens the door for those who need to add some doors. Perhaps you have an elderly family member who you’d like to care for at home, but not in your home? Maybe you’d like to give your adult child an affordable option to live independently?
Of course, adding an ADU as a rental option to generate long term income may also be appealing. The great thing about ADUs is that they can have flexible uses, ranging from a home office, gym, craft area, guest cottage…and so much more!
If you’re thinking about creating a rental on your property, you’ll want to give serious consideration to the placement, access and privacy. It’s also wise to consult with a tax advisor to see how this plan might impact your taxes, both in positive and negative ways.
Did you know that the Town of Danville has beautiful, downloadable ADU plans available in their “Garden Cottage Program.” The program is intended to offer residents a streamlined and more affordable option, when considering building an ADU. It’s a great place to start looking at your options and get some ideas. If the town’s plans work for your needs, it could equal a huge savings in time & money.
It’s important to note that an ADU does not have to be a detached structure. If you don’t need a lot of extra square footage, but simply wish to repurpose space that you already have, you may have options to convert part of your existing home to a separate (attached) dwelling unit.
Just like any major home improvement, if you’re not sure that you’ll be staying in your home for the long term and if you’re concerned about your return on investment, it’s wise to consult with your trusted REALTOR®, to make sure that the project you have in mind makes sense.
Every home is unique. If the thought of evaluating your options has you feeling overwhelmed, please feel free to reach out to me at 925964-5010 or via email at Lisa.Hopkins@Compass.com for a custom

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue Giving Them Another Chance
By Sue James, President
JUDE - EAST COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER DOG LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME
Hello and nice to meet you!
I am a very good-looking, male, German Shepherd. I am approximately 9 years old and weigh around 67 lbs. I am an easy-going, laid-back kinda guy. I love going on short strolls and playing with my favorite Orange ball when I am in the yard. I wait patiently and quietly in my kennel when my volunteer friends are taking me out for walks. I also willingly and happily go back inside after my outside time is done. I walk well on the leash and am good at following your lead. I warm up to people quickly and when I spend enough time with you, I will lean on you and ask for affection. I know how to ‘Sit’ when asked to and am learning to ‘Wait’ before I get my treats. I am also very gentle when I take my treats from your hand.
Because of my mature age - I think people are overlooking me which is such a shame because I would love to go home with you. Admittedly I would do best being the only dog in my new forever home. Please come meet me at the East County Animal Shelter at 4595 Gleason Drive in Dublin. I’m neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and ready to go home WITH YOU.
I am located at the East County Animal Shelter – 4595 Gleason Drive in Dublin. I
have some pictures you can see right here (and please ignore the one of me in the Red Hat -- They made me wear it!).
You can see more about Jude and additional pictures and videos at www.tvar.org .
FOSTER KITTEN PROGRAM -MAMA ROSALIND AND HER BABIES
Rosalind is a beautiful tortoiseshell mama currently available for adoption. When she was brought into the shelter, it was quickly noticed that she was nursing and must have been missing her babies. Remarkably, the following day, shelter members found babies in the same area and reunited them with Mama Rosalind. Although it cannot be confirmed that they were her own kittens, she took them in immediately, and her demeanor changed. Tri-Valley Animal Rescue placed the happy family in a foster home, where Mama could raise her babies in a loving environment. All but three of the babies have been adopted.
TVAR’s kitten and bottle baby programs rescue kittens - some only days old - and mommas and babies like Rosalind- who are unable to be adopted from the shelter and place them in foster homes where they receive medical care, love, and a home setting until they are healthy, able to be spayed or neutered and ready for their forever homes
Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR)Giving them Another Chance.
TVAR is a locally based and volunteer run 501(c)3 animal rescue organization. With our foster dog and foster kitten programs and our Dog and Cat Shelter programs at the East County Animal Shelter, TVAR assists in saving hundreds and hundreds of animals yearly in the Tri-Valley and surrounding areas. We are celebrating 30 years of saving lives with over 250 local volunteers. At TVAR, we rely solely on Public Support to fund our life saving programs.

Danville’s Chromatica makes history with a world premiere!
By Chris Kenber, Resident since 2011
Chromatica, a 35-person classical chorus founded in Danville in 2011, will perform the world premiere of Transfigurations, a choral and instrumental six-part suite composed by multiple Grammy award winning composer Christopher Tin on April 27 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek.
Tin won his first two Grammys for his classical crossover album Calling All Dawns. His choral piece Baba Yetu, from the video game Civilization IV, became the first piece of video game music to win a Grammy Award. His subsequent video game composition, Sogno di Volare, from Civilization VI, was performed by Chromatica at its recent concert. His 2022 classical compendium The Lost Birds debuted at number two on the Billboard Classical Charts as well as receiving another Grammy nomination. It has received millions of listens across streaming platforms.
“I’m very honored to be able to work with Chromatica,” said Christopher Tin. “I was born and raised in the Bay Area, so getting the opportunity to work with a group so close to my hometown will be a treat.”
Transfiguration’s lyrics are by Charles Anthony Silvestri who is the author of more than fifty published works in collaboration with celebrated composers such as Eric Whitacre, Dan Forrest, Ola Gjeilo, and Kim Arnesen. The suite was commissioned by former Chromatica singer Dan Peterson and his wife Maria for Chromatica. This thirty-minute piece is a unique reflection on the life lessons that Dan Peterson documented as input to the commission. Sadly, Dan’s wife, Maria, passed away recently and the piece is dedicated to her. “It has been Chromatica’s dream since its foundation 12 years ago to commission and perform major choral works well outside the normal repertoire for community choruses,” said David Huff, founding artistic director. “We are profoundly grateful to Dan and Maria Peterson for this wonderful gift.”
Chromatica has performed concerts twice a year since 2011 for large and enthusiastic audiences. This commission is unprecedented for a community chorus like Chromatica. For concert tickets and more about Chromatica go to www.chromaticachorale.org.

A Night to Shine 2024
By Deana Dickerson, CPC Missions Director
Photos provided by Deana Dickerson
Night to Shine is a worldwide movement hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation. It is an unforgettable prom night experience centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, ages 14 and older. Every guest of Night to Shine enters this complimentary event on a red carpet complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, guests receive the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining stations, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, a karaoke room, a catered dinner, a Respite Room for parents and caretakers and, of course, dancing!
In partnership with the Foundation, over 700 proms were held globally this year. Incredible! While hosted for the first time at CPC Danville (Community Presbyterian Church), the night was made possible at this location through a collaboration of five churches: Cornerstone Fellowship SRV, Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, Creekside Community Church, and Cornerstone Christian Center Antioch. Now in its sixth year in Contra Costa County we had over 200 guests. In addition, the parents and caregivers were treated to a respite event with dinner, entertainment, and activities with the comfort that their child was having the time of their life and being taken care of just next door.
In an effort to change the narrative on how people with special needs are viewed, this event helps the community enhance their work for people with special needs. CPC church has recently launched a program called Access Kids. It is intended to be a place where children with special needs and their families are welcomed and embraced as members who can fully participate in the life of God’s church. By providing a supportive, positive, and inclusive environment, they strive to make an impact for all. This new ministry is intentional about creating awareness and acceptance so that individuals with special needs and their families feel a sense of belonging. Learn more at cpcdanville.org.
We are so grateful for the 600+ volunteers that helped pull off an amazing Night to Shine on February 9th. Hope to see you all again next year!

Spring Is In The Air, How Do You Celebrate?
By Christina Dalton, MS, PPS, PCC, EYH Life Coach
March is the month that awakens new life. Everything seems greener and fresher after the winter rains. The March winds dust off the dead branches and blow away the fallen debris. The days hint to be a little longer and the sun quite warmer. Spring wakes up nature after its long hibernation to newness from flower blossoms to baby animal births.
And what about you? Metaphorically, this is the time of year for renewal, hope and excitement with the month that welcomes Spring. This season has always been associated with new beginnings, fresh starts, and a burst of life after the dormancy of winter. May I challenge you to what would be something to bring to life again or start fresh?
For many, this may mean a new look - losing weight, getting fresh air and putting the kiss of the sun back in your skin. For others, it may be the start of a new job, career, or relationship. For teens, especially seniors, it is the invitation of spring fever or senioritis, when the studies become secondary as the countdown to the end of the school year begins. How do you stay focused to the finish line?
As I reflect on last spring, I set two goals to welcome spring:
1. The loss of almost 18 pounds
2. Becoming brave and taking the steps to eye surgery.
I successfully achieved both - a much smaller clothing size and perfect vision without glasses or contacts. How did I do this? I applied all the strategies I partner with my clients. This includes setting reasonable goals, analyzing barriers, positive self talk, management of successes and developing a network that supports me. Of course there is more, but with these strategies I reasonably achieved and kept off my weight. I also developed the valuable mindset to handle my surgery.
Whatever the fresh start of spring means to you, how do you celebrate? If any of these themes and transitions resonate for you but you are stuck in how to fully stay focused on your goals, EYHLifeCoach partners with clients to successfully move forward in reaching client aspirations. Ultimately, the meaning of “Spring is in the Air” is up to how you recognize and celebrate your best self. Reach out to EYH if you are not feeling that warmth of sunshine in you.
Christina Dalton is the Principal of EYH Life Coach. She applies her own personal and career transitions along with several degrees and credentials to provide insight and knowledge into the coaching experience. Christina handpicks her staff, all of whom are ICF credentialed and have unique experiences to create invaluable coaching sessions.

Designs for the new public art program appear on Downtown sidewalks when it rains.
The Town of Danville has launched a new public art project perfect for the coming storms. Sidewalk Stroll: A Rainworks Project features themed designs that appear on Downtown sidewalks when it rains. Unlocking Youth: A Guide to Facial Rejuvenation Procedures
By Stephen J. Ronan, MD FACS
Facial rejuvenation procedures have become increasingly popular as individuals seek to restore a youthful and refreshed appearance. In this article, we explore five transformative techniques offered by Blackhawk Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, including short facelifts, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, laser treatments, and fat grafting.
Short facelifts, also known as mini facelifts, have gained popularity for their ability to provide noticeable results with minimal downtime. Targeting the lower two-thirds of the face, this procedure addresses sagging skin and wrinkles, delivering a rejuvenated and lifted appearance. With a quicker recovery period compared to traditional facelifts, short facelifts offer a convenient option for those seeking effective facial rejuvenation.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a transformative procedure designed to address sagging eyelids and under-eye bags. By removing excess skin, fat, and muscle, eyelid surgery opens up the eyes, creating a more alert and youthful look. Patients often experience improved vision and enhanced self-confidence following this rejuvenating surgery.
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, is a versatile procedure that not only enhances aesthetic features but also corrects functional issues. By harmonizing the proportions of the nose with the rest of the face, rhinoplasty achieves facial balance and symmetry. This surgical intervention can address concerns ranging from nasal humps to breathing difficulties, offering both cosmetic and functional benefits.
Laser treatments have revolutionized the field of facial rejuvenation, providing non-invasive solutions for a variety of skin concerns. From reducing wrinkles and fine lines to improving skin texture and tone, lasers stimulate collagen production and encourage skin renewal. These procedures are often customizable, allowing us practitioners to tailor treatments to individual needs.
Fat grafting, a natural approach to facial rejuvenation, involves using a patient’s own fat to restore volume and contour specific areas of the face. Commonly applied to the cheeks, temples, and under-eye regions, fat grafting provides a long-lasting solution for addressing facial volume loss. This method not only rejuvenates the face but also enhances overall facial harmony.
As noted above, face rejuvenation procedures offer a spectrum of options for individuals looking to turn back the hands of time and enhance their natural beauty. If you are interested in learning more about any of these procedures or are interested in scheduling a complimentary consultation, please give us a call at 925-9365757. We look forward to hearing from you!
