DEAR DARDEN COMMUNITY,
Darden’s Class of 2020 Rises Above Hiring Challenges Presented by the Global Pandemic As this report details, the Class of 2020 in all of Darden’s degree programs met and surpassed the historic obstacles presented by the global COVID19 pandemic. In spring 2020, students’ classes, extracurricular activities, and recruiting experiences moved to a virtual format. At the same time, some students experienced furloughs, some lost their job, and others still watched their companies impart such measures on many of their colleagues, family, and friends. Many graduates saw their start dates pushed farther into the future and some even lost their full-time job offers.
The University of Virginia Darden School of Business is pleased to present – for only the second time – comprehensive career outcomes for the Class of 2020 in Darden’s full-time, MBA Executive MBA, and Master of Science in business analytics programs.
And still, in the face of these challenges, the Class of 2020 displayed tremendous grit, resiliency, and empathy for one another. These qualities of determination and mutual care will take them far in their career advancement – not only over the course of their time at Darden, but also for decades to come.
100 Percent of First Year Students in the Full-Time MBA Program Secure Summer Internships This brochure also highlights summer internship outcomes for Darden’s full-time MBA Class of 2021 students, who also experienced an arduous hiring cycle. Even as internship offers were rescinded or internships were shortened, students showed tenacity and creativity as they nonetheless secured excellent summer experiences. They partnered with Darden faculty and alumni mentors in the new Darden Impact Internship program; they joined nonprofits or startups seeking MBA talent to help them pivot in the face of the pandemic; and, they stitched together multiple corporate internships to create a cohesive summer experience. We at the Career Center have been lucky to collaborate with these talented, purpose-driven professionals as they progress in their careers. We look eagerly toward their continued success amid adversity, prosperity, and everything in-between. Best regards,
Jeff McNish Assistant Dean for Career Development +1-434-297-7971 McNishJ@darden.virginia.edu
*The data in this report aligns with MBA CSEA standards, though Darden’s programs do not qualify for MBA CSEA Part-Time or Specialty Masters’ standards. Darden collected student data via surveys and in some cases, LinkedIn profile information.
