e t a m i t l U g n i t f a r C Expert ide Gu EVERLASTINGFIRE We’vecollectedeveryrecipeyou needtobecomethebestcrafter around–instantly!
Fire is dangerous, but it also has lots of uses. The problem is that unless you keep re-lighting them, fires burn out eventually. Or do they? YOU’LL NEED: ■ At least one Netherrack block ■ Some way of lighting a block, such as a flint & steel (1 x flint + 1 x iron ingot) Start by placing Netherrack where you want the fire to be, then light it with a flint & steel. The fire will then burn until a player strikes it. Set the Netherrack into the ground, so it’s disguised, but make sure it’s surrounded by fire-resistant blocks to stop it from spreading!

ULTIMATE EXPERT CRAFTING GUIDE
A map wall
ALIGHT SWITCH
Making a light switch is a Automatic doors simple way to understand redstone circuits and make a house feel more like a home. YOU’LL NEED: ■ A redstone lamp (4 x redstone + 1 x glowstone block) ■ A lever (1 x stick + 1 x cobblestone) ■ Enough redstone dust to connect the two First, place the redstone lamp where you want your light source to be. Feel free to set it into a wall or ceiling. Next, place the lever where you want to switch the light on or off. If the two components aren’t close, connect them with redstone dust. Remember that you can place the dust on the side or back of blocks, and it will still work, so you don’t have to have dust trailing around your house!
AMAPWALL
Maps allow you to see what’s nearby, but carrying lots around can use up precious inventory space, and sharing them is difficult. Instead of giving everyone a copy, make one easily viewed map wall. YOU’LL NEED: ■ At least one map (8 x paper + 1 x compass) ■ An Item frame for each map (8 x sticks + 1 x leather) First, fill up the map by selecting it and exploring the area. When it’s done, hang an item frame on a wall, then place the map into it. If you make more maps, you can link
5
them up on the wall – the item frames join , the same scale. You can spin them around by using them and collect them by breaking the frame.
AUTOMATICDOORS
Opening and closing doors can be an unnecessary chore, but you don’t want to accidentally let mobs in if you leave them open. Here’s a simple way to make a door automatically close after you. YOU’LL NEED: ■ A Wooden door (6 x wood planks) or a metal door (6 x iron ingots) ■ A wooden pressure plate (2 x wood planks) or a stone pressure plate (2 x stone) To create an automatic door, place a pressure plate on the block in front of a door. When triggered, the plate generates a burst of redstone power, which will make the door open briefly, allowing you to pass through before closing. Be careful if you put this outside your base. Mobs can also activate them, so there’s a good chance you might accidentally create a system that allows your enemies to invade!
AWRITTENBOOK
blocks of emerald, blocks of diamond or blocks of Netherite (requires 81 ingots or Sometimes it’s useful to keep notes when you gems in total) ■ A beacon block (3 x obsidian, 1 x Nether play Minecraft. Rather than use a notepad, why not write them in-game using a book? star, 5 x glass blocks) YOU’LL NEED: To build a beacon, construct (at least) a 3x3 ■ A book (3 x paper + 6 x leather) platform of metal or mineral blocks, then ■ A feather place a beacon block on the centre of the ■ An ink sac platform. This is a one-level pyramid. The Craft together a book with a feather and an biggest and strongest beacons have four ink sac to create a book & quill. These books levels, which requires 164 blocks, or 1,476 can be written in. You can write as much or gems/ingots! as little as you like, and when you “sign” the Once lit, a beacon will fire a beam of blue book, its content become fixed as a written light into the sky, visible from hundreds of book. Written books can’t be edited, but blocks away. ABEACON
Beacons have two purposes: as a navigation aid and to power up nearby players. They’re very hard to build, but A written book if you’re up to the challenge here’s what you have to do! YOU’LL NEED: ■ At least nine blocks of iron, blocks of gold,

ULTIMATE EXPERT CRAFTING GUIDE A brewing stand
An armour stand
ABREWINGSTAND ANARMOURSTAND
Using potions can give you a huge boost in almost any area of the game, whether you use them to attack enemies, protect yourself or power up your friends. But to make them, you need to start with a brewing stand. YOU’LL NEED: ■ 3 x cobblestone (or equivalent stone) blocks ■ A blaze rod Cobblestone is easy to collect, but to get a blaze rod you’ll need to visit a Nether fortress (in the Nether!) and kill some blazes. While you’re there, remember to grab some Nether wart, which forms the base for almost all useful potions. Craft the items together, and you’ll be set. Experiment with adding different ingredients to potions to see what you get!
If you’ve got loads of armour and clothes that you like to wear, sifting between different chests to find the right stuff can take a lot of unnecessary time. Why not display it proudly on an armour stand instead? YOU’LL NEED: ■ 6 x sticks ■ A smooth stone slab (3 x smooth stone) To make an armour stand, create a smooth stone slab by crafting together three smooth stone blocks. They have to be smooth stone, which you can get by smelting stone, which you can get by smelting cobblestone! Craft the stand, then place it in your base. You can now hang clothes and armour off it. Simply punch the armour to knock it off the stand and wear it.
7
ANIRONGOLEM
Minecraft can be a lonely place. Most mobs are either trying to kill you or ignore you. Why not create a golem to help you fight? YOU’LL NEED: ■ A carved pumpkin (use shears on a pumpkin) or Jack O’Lantern (torch + carved pumpkin) ■ 4 x iron blocks (9 x iron ingot per block) To summon an iron golem, place the four iron blocks in a “T” shape, then put a carved pumpkin or Jack O’ Lantern on top to serve as the head. Iron golems roam around, attacking hostile mobs that come too close. They can be damaged by lava, fire, poison, TNT and cactuses, but not by falls or drowning.
An iron golem totem
A shield
ASHIELD
Shields allow you to defend yourself from attacks of all kinds – AND display your allegiance to other players! YOU’LL NEED: ■ 6 x wood planks (any type) ■ An iron ingot Craft a shield using the pattern shown, then hold it in either of your hands to defend yourself from attacks from other mobs and players. When using a shield, you walk slowly – as slow as if you were sneaking. If the shield is hit by an axe, it can be temporarily disabled. If the shield is hit by an arrow, the arrow will bounce off and hurt any nearby mobs it hits. To add a pattern to your shield (in the Java Edition only), you can craft it with a banner.
ULTIMATE EXPERT CRAFTING GUIDE A firework rocket going off
Firework stars
FIREWORK ROCKETS
They serve almost no practical purpose, but fireworks are great fun! To create a basic firework, you need to create a firework star, then put it in a rocket. YOU’LL NEED: ■ A firework star (at least 1 x gunpowder + 1 x any dye) ■ A piece of paper (3 x sugar cane) ■ 1-3 pieces of gunpowder First, craft your firework star, then craft it again with paper and gunpowder to make a rocket. You can add up to three pieces of gunpowder to a rocket, and the more gunpowder you add, the further the rocket will travel. That creates the most basic rocket, but every firework can contain up to seven firework stars!
YOU’LL NEED: ■ Gunpowder ■ Any dye ■ Optionally: a fire charge, a gold nugget, a feather, glowstone dust, a mob head, a diamond Crafting any of the listed items with a firework star affects the eventual firework’s colour, shape and behaviour. You don’t have to add all of the ingredients when the firework star is first made – crafting an item with a firework star creates another firework star with the altered effect. Diamonds create trails, glowstone dust makes explosions twinkle, fire charges increase the starburst size, a gold nugget There are over 300 unique-looking fireworks, makes the starbust star-shaped, a feather makes it into a burst pattern, and a mob which you can create by combining ingredients for different effects and colours. head makes a creeper-shaped firework.

SCAVENGING APPLES
Only harvest crops when they’re fully grown
Apples restore four hunger and 2.4 saturation, so they’re good for keeping hunger at bay once you stock up on them. If your home biome has oak or dark oak trees, you can break their leaves to collect apples. You only get one apple in every 200 broken leaves, on average, but the apples appear even if the leaves decay on their own - destroy the tree trunks and wait! Note that the apples don’t appear if leaves are burned.
COLLECTINGSWEET BERRIES
FINDINGMELONS
In Taiga and Snowy Taiga biomes, you might find sweet berry bushes. Take care when scavenging the berries because the bushes can injure you, but you can use your hand to break them without taking damage. You get 1-3 berries per fully grown bush, with two hunger points and 1.2 saturation points restored from each berry you eat. You can also plant sweet berries on any grass to grow a bush, making them an easy to farm food source.
In Jungle biomes, melons grow in patches, and to eat them, all you have to do is break the melon block. It will drop 3-7 slices, and each slice restores two hunger points and 1.2 saturation. That means a minimum of six hunger points – and possibly up to 14 – restored per melon! Craft one slice into seeds and replant in watered farmland to grow more.

FAST FOOD TIPS
FREE POTATOES, CARROTS& BEETROOTS
If you’re lucky enough to find a village, you can take crops from its farms. There’s a chance to find all three of these crops, which you can replant AND eat directly if you prefer. Potatoes restore one hunger point and 0.6 saturation raw, and five hunger with 6.0 saturation if cooked. While they can’t be cooked, carrots restore three hunger and 3.6 saturation, and beetroots restore one hunger and 1.2 saturation.
Get some food – fast!
HARVESTING KELP
Kelp grows in vasts forests in mild ocean biomes. You can break the bottom of a kelp plant to instantly break all the leaves above it. You have to dry kelp using a furnace, smoker or campfire to eat it, but each piece will restore 0.6 hunger and 1.6 saturation. It’s low, but given the amount of kelp available it soon stacks up! On the PS4 and Xbox One, you get the Castaway trophy/ achievement for eating nothing but kelp for three in-game days.
Melons are a great source of food
INEDIBLEFOOD
Some food needs to be crafted before it can be eaten, such as wheat, pumpkins, eggs, cocoa pods/beans and mushrooms. Horses can eat sugar crafted from sugar cane, but players can’t. Milk from cows CAN be eaten, but it doesn’t fill the hunger bar – it clears negative status effects. There’s no point carrying these types of food around if your inventory space is limited. Save room for the edible stuff!
Kelp can be harvested quickly

ABOUT ECHOINGVOID
In case you didn’t guess from the name, Echoing Void is based on the End dimension from Minecraft. You begin in a stronghold beneath a small island, and you have to activate the portal by collecting eyes of ender. Your goal is to enter the portal and defeat the Vengeful Heart of Ender – the DLC’s boss! This expansion pack for the original Minecraft Dungeons is available now and can be downloaded from the official store for your PC, tablet or console.
ACCESSINGECHOINGVOID
To gain access to the Echoing Void levels, you first need to find six eyes of ender scattered throughout the rest of the game. These can be spotted in Soggy Swamp, Creeper Woods, Cacti Canyon, Pumpkin Pastures, Desert Temple and Highblock Halls. The location is (of course) randomised, but you can get them on any difficulty level, so don’t be afraid to go in on Easy mode if you just want to get it out of the way! You need to defeat a miniboss, who’ll drop the eye of ender. At this point, you can return to camp without finishing the rest of the level (as long as you’ve already beaten it once, that is!). The Echoing Void DLC is out now

Look out for new gear, including the Unstable Robes
DROPS&GEAR
There are tonnes of drops available (as ever!), but here are some of our favourite pieces: ARTIFACT: Vexing Chant Available in the Broken Citadel on Apocalypse difficulty only, the Vexing Chant summons three guardian vexes, which attack mobs near you using a mace. Friendly vexes are pink in appearance. ARMOUR: Unstable Robes This unique variant of the Teleportation Robes gives you extra health, allows you to roll to teleport, adds +50% to souls gathered and triggers an explosion when you roll. It can be collected in the Broken Citadel or dropped by the Scuttling Torment mob. MELEE: The Beginning and The End A unique variant of the Void Touched Blades found in the Broken Citadel. It has extra melee damage, the Leeching effect, which makes it steal health from mobs, and a Void Strike rising damage multiplier. RANGED: Call of the Void A unique variant of the Void Bow found in the Broken Citadel. It has extra ranged damage, a Void Strike rising damage multiplier AND a chance for arrows to explode on impact (Fuse Shot).
NEED-TOKNOWINFO
There are more new achievements than ever!
Echoing Void is the first Dungeons DLC to NOT have a secret mission, so if you’ve been spending the last couple of weeks looking for one, it’s time to throw in the towel! There are ten new achievements – more than any other Dungeons DLC, beating the previous recordholder (Hidden Depths) by one and bringing the total number of achievements for the game and all its DLCs to 75.

ZEN
BUILD A
WHATISAZEN GARDEN?
Lookingforabuildprojectthatforces youtothinkcreatively?Attherequestof Graycie,oneofourloyalreaders,wehave thisall-newguidetobuildingaJapanesestyleZengarden!
A zen garden is a small landscape surrounded by a low wall containing water, rocks, pruned trees, sand or gravel and other plants. Typically, they have very few plants and often contain running water. The idea is that you can go there to sit in peace and think about nature or meditate. They were initially created at Buddhist temples in Japan circa 1400, but have since been recreated all around the world, even into the present day, and now you can build your own in Minecraft!
The zen garden you’re going to build!
PICKINGA LOCATION
First, decide the perfect place to create your garden. You need a largeish, flat space in a temperate biome – a grass plains biome is perfect, but you could also clear a space in a forest/jungle or, at a push, in a savanna. Mark out a square around 18x18 blocks and clear the interior of long grass, terrain imperfections and other plant life. You want to make sure this space is completely clear for the garden you’re about to create! Surrounding the area with slabs or a wall is a good idea at this point, so you can keep the boundaries between nature and your zen garden clear!
Mark out the space you’re going to build in

BUILD A ZEN GARDEN
The corner lighting A shrine-style Torii gate
LIGHTING
Keeping the garden clear of mobs is important, and part of that means good lighting. Luckily, there are lanterns in Minecraft, which evoke a Japanese appearance. To ensure every place inside the garden remains illuminated to a level where mobs can’t spawn, even at night, we placed a lantern in each of the four corners of our garden. Rather than simply placing them on the ground, we’ve put them on top of small wooden fences, which don’t completely encircle the garden but give it a boundary of sorts. We chose acacia wood because it’s bright and clear but not overpowering in its colour the way birch wood might be. That wood choice will remain a theme for the rest of the build!
GATES
To aid people in entering and exiting, we suggest you put a gate at either end of the garden, then connect them with a flattened grass path. Make sure the path isn’t straight, though – let it take people on a wander through your creation. The gates we’ve built are designed to look like the Torii gates found at Shinto shrines – or at least as close as can be done in Minecraft! Each one combines an andesite fence post with several acacia fence pieces and some acacia trapdoors on top. They’re four blocks wide, with a twoblock doorway.
15
A rock formation surrounded by sand
Azaelas look perfect as small trees
ROCKFORMATION SHRUBS ANDBAMBOO Zen gardens are sometimes known as rock gardens, and in their most traditional form contain almost no greenery. We therefore think it’s important to create a rock formation. Start by creating a sandy area (you can also use gravel), then build a very small pile of rocks in the middle using a combination of slabs, stairs and no more than one whole block. The formation should be small and precise. Mix up the types of rock available a little – you can see ours contains cobblestone, andesite and normal stone. We’ve also scattered a few stone buttons around to give the impression of pebbles. Finally, to aid meditation, we topped the formation with a bell, used as a call to pray in some Buddhist practices.
16
Shrubs will give your garden the natural appearance modern zen garden designers strive for. In both flowering and non-flowering variants, the recently added azalea bushes look a lot like bonsai trees. Likewise, with their pink flowers, azalea leaves replicate the appearance of cherry blossom, which is popular in Japan. You can also add some bamboo shoots for variety, and maybe even some ferns and other grasses. Whatever you add, avoid too much clutter. The idea behind zen gardens is that they’re well manicured and tightly constructed. Too much variety will end up looking chaotic, which isn’t very relaxing at all!
BUILD A ZEN GARDEN Add a bridge
Use barriers to keep mobs out!
FOOTBRIDGE
failed attempt, just strip out the logs, and the leaves will disappear on their own.
BARRIERS
Running water is a key component of any zen garden, so evoking a river or stream is essential for your build. We’ve done that by creating a winding waterway that traverses the path we built. Visitors can cross it by way of a simple, low footbridge made out of acacia slabs and acacia fenceposts. Again, the lanterns are used to add lighting, ensuing no one trips or stumbles into the water if walking over it at night! As part of this smaller scene, we’ve added a full-size azalea tree – you can create one by fertilising a small version with bone meal, which creates a tree with this “leaning” effect on it – perfect for drooping over water! You might need to grow the tree a few times to make it lean the right way, but don’t worry – if you need to get rid of a
Finally, there’s one more thing you need to do: protect the garden from unwanted visitors. Although you COULD wall it up or fence it off entirely, that’s counter to the appeal of a zen garden, which is supposed to be open and welcoming. Instead, use the give command to put barrier blocks in your inventory (/give @p barrier_block), then build an invisible barrier around it! You can only see the red “stop” signs when you have the barrier block selected, so to everyone else it will just look like there’s no barrier. Remember not to block up the gates, though! And there you have it – a place to relax!

AMETHYST
ABOUT AMETHYST In case you missed it, amethyst is a new
A partially exposed geode underwater
GETTING AMETHYST It takes 2.25 seconds to break an amethyst
purple-ish mineral block that was added in the first part of the Caves & Cliffs update. It forms naturally as the interior of geodes, which are large, hollow spheres that form underground and near the sea bed. Amethyst itself is a decorative block, which means its main function is to look cool, but naturally occurring amethyst has some additional secrets…
block with your hand or any non-pickaxe tool (which destroys it), 1.15 seconds with a wooden pickaxe, or 0.2 seconds with a golden pickaxe (the fastest). It’s also possible to craft amethyst block using four amethyst shards, which grow o budding amethyst and can be collected fr m the interior of geodes.
GEODES Geodes are the only naturally occurring
Amethyst, budding amethyst and amethyst clusters
source of amethyst. They form in the Overworld and are made of a smooth bas lt shell with a calcite layer and an amethyst layer with a hollow space. They can form in i erent sizes an at any level etween 0 and 70. They can be underground or protrude from the surface, but you can always spot their basalt exterior.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH
The four stages of amethyst growth
An amethyst cluster generator
AMETHYST BUDS Budding amethyst is a special
YST AMETH HINTS & SECRETS
form of amethyst that only forms in geodes and can’t be crafted. If mined, even with a Silk Touch pickaxe, it will break and can’t be collected. So what’s the point of this block? Well, it grows amethyst clusters! As long as the bud is exposed to water or air, there’s a small chance of the shard progressing to the next stage of its four stages of growth. Fully grown clusters of amethyst can be broken into amethyst shards using any tool, while partially grown clusters will break completely when mined and drop nothing. If you mine a cluster using a Silk Touch pickaxe, you will collect the cluster itself rather than shards.
Amethyst clusters give off a low light level depending on their size – level 1 for the first tick, level 2 for the second, level 4 for the third and level 5 for the fourth – although amethyst blocks themselves do not. If you place a partially grown amethyst cluster on a block of budding amethyst, it will continue to grow from that point on. Although clusters can be placed on any block once collected, they won’t grow anywhere else. Amethyst clusters grow when they’re next to a budding amethyst block, so you can create a quick amethyst generator by placing four budding amethyst blocks in the formation shown in our screenshot above!

NOTABOOK, BUTMOREON DUNGEONS!
This one’s out now, a 96-page visual guide that explains lots about the game. Its focus, as the title suggests, is on building and crafting.
With the sixth downloadable content pack for the game, Mojang has officially released an Ultimate Edition of Minecraft Dungeons. The spin-off game has sold over 10 million copies since it was first released, and it’s still selling fast. The Ultimate Edition, which brings together the main game and all six DLC packs, isn’t likely to harm those sales either! The pack is available now. We await news on what Mojang has planned for Dungeons next!

Arriving on 7th December, this is the latest official Minecraft novel, and the story has been written by Suyi Davies. A group of adventurers find themselves taking on some very tricky trials!

An updated version of an older book, this new edition goes on sale from 28th September. It will take account of the many changes in the game since it was originally published. It’s not the only book doing that either…
G N I H T ANY Dear As g, I have a few Minecraft questions: 1. If Endermen are damaged by water, why does a water-filled cauldron not damage them? 2. Is it possible to build a working End portal in Creative mode? 3. How do you make a lingering potion? 4. What is the best way to pass
between End islands without elytra? 5. There is leather, iron, gold and diamond horse armour, so why isn't there a Netherite version? 6. If dripleafs can't hold up the player, why can you place an anvil on top, and it's held up? 7. How do you obtain a fermented spider eye? Manfredi A e 9
Hey! Thanks for writing in. Luckily Every way is pretty dangerous, for you, we have a few answers but throwing ender pearls is about Minecraft… probably the safest bet – as long as It’s highly unlikely that an Enderman you’re good at throwing them! will step inside a cauldron – and if it We don’t know! Maybe Netherite is looks like it does, well, maybe it was poisonous to horses? just balancing on the sides. Anvils count as blocks, not mobs, It is, but it’s very difficult to get it so that’s probably why! right, and there’s not enough space It’s pretty simple: just craft a to explain it here. However, we last spider eye with a brown mushroom did a full feature on this in issue and sugar! #72, so head over to a back issue service such as Zinio, and You can build End you should be able to buy and portals in the Nether download a digital copy to read that article. You need to collect dragon’s breath in an empty bottle while fighting the ender dragon and brew that into a splash potion. 24
ASK US ANYTHING Dear Ask Us Anything, I have a subscription to your mag (it's the best), and I wanted to know a few things: 1. In issue 82, you said there were seven differences in the Spot the Difference, but I saw eight (there was a dog in the top picture but not in the bottom). 2. Can you do a potion effects guide in an issue soon? 3. In 1.18, what will the wardens drop? 4. Can you put on boots to hide from a sculk sensor? 5. What portion of End cities have an End ship? 6. What is the best way to gather enchanted books? Thanks, George We’ll try to do a potion guide soon!
rge hanks for taking out a subscription! Let’s see if we can help you… Congratulations on spotting the deliberate mistake! (oops…) We can definitely have a look at it! We’re trying to take on more reader requests, so send in your ideas! We’ll do them whenever we can. They will! They weren’t in 1.17 because the Deep Dark biome wasn’t finished – but once it is, the wardens will be coming with it. Not at the moment – the way to hide is just to walk very slowly and quietly – but maybe there’ll be a way to enchant your boots to avoid making noise? It’s hard to say – we think around 50% of all End cities have an End ship, but the generation process is random, so it’s really hard to be sure. The best way is to enchant the books yourself on an enchanting table, though collecting them from pillager outposts, where they’re pretty common as loot, is also a good way. Thanks, George! You should find End ships in half of End cities

Iron ore is common enough
ear Ask Us Anything, I have some questions for the PS3 Edition only: Is iron rare in this edition of Minecraft? Can you get the wither storm? Can you get command blocks? I know you c n't get crossbows, but my friend has the PS4 Edition and said you can kill iron golems in two hits with one. Is this true? Thanks, Joe, Age 7
Load rockets into your crossbow
anks for taking the time to Nintendo Switch and any future versions! write to us! Iron isn’t particularly rare in the PS3 It depends on how weak the golem Edition, no. Iron ore can be hard to is when you hit it! But no, the iron find in every edition of the game. Still, golem has 100 health points and even using a firework as ammo, you if you search in shallow caves near can only take out 18 points of health the surface, you should be able to with a single crossbow shot. That stumble on some eventually! Sadly, the wither storm is something means 36 points for hitting an iron golem. At the minimum, it would take that only happens in Minecraft: six rockets to kill an iron golem, and Story Mode and doesn’t appear in any other version of the game – PS3 probably a few more, given that every hit won’t have max difficulty! or otherwise! Thanks again, Joe – fantastic to Command blocks can’t be played read your letter! on any console version, including everything from the PS3 to the 26
ASK US ANYTHING ar sk Us Anything, My name is Rico, and I really like your magazine! I play Bedrock Edition on mobile and Nintendo Switch. 1. When will fletching tables function? 2. Is there any way to get Dungeons DLC for free? 3. Can you give me any tips to find diamonds Netherite? 4. Is lightning automatically attracted to lightning rods? 5. What is the chance of triggering a raid with Bad Omen? 6. What will fletching tables be used for? Rico, Age 9
Fletching tables have no function
Pillager raids are brutal!
Hey Rico! Those are some good questions – we had to really think about some of these! At the moment, we can’t be sure – probably not in version 1.18 is all we can say! Nope, not unless it goes on sale in the official stores, and that isn’t the case at the moment. Be wary of anyone telling you that it’s possible! Strip mining – digging 2x1 block tunnels in parallel next to each other – is the best way to find any mineral. As long as you do it in the right place, of course! Yes, any lightning that would have
struck within a 128-block distance of the lightning rod will be diverted to it instead of its initial target. Even strikes created by an enchanted trident get redirected! It’s a 100% chance! As long as a nearby bed has been claimed by a villager, the raid will begin when you move close to it. At the moment, it’s impossible to be sure, but likely it will be a way to create special arrows more easily. Thanks, Rico! 27
As usual, our final pages are reserved for quickfire questions. Sorry if we didn’t print your whole letter – we do read them all! How do you put the Loyalty enchantment book onto a trident? – Elspeth
To transfer an enchantment from a Tridents with Loyalty return book to an item, including when thrown a trident, you have to craft an anvil out of three blocks of iron and four iron ingots. Place the book and trident (or any other valid item) onto the anvil, then spend your experience by removing it from the output slot to finish the job. Note that tridents Barrier blocks are with Riptide on them usually invisible can’t accept the Loyalty enchantment, as the effects would cancel each other out! make sure only people creating the barriers How do you get a barrier on Java? Do know where they are! you use commands, or can you find them in the Creative inventory? - Evelyn
Barriers aren’t in the Creative inventory, no – as long as you’re playing Java Edition, you need to type the following command into the console: /give @p barrier_block 64 (to give yourself 64 barrier blocks). Note that when you place them, the ’ll be invisible unless you have the barrier bloc se . to
How do you get an arrow in a bow? – Arlo
To shoot arrows, you just need to have them in your inventory while you’re holding a bow – press the use button and they’ll load automatically. If you have multiple arrow types, place the one you want to use first in your offhand slot. 28
In the future, wil there other animals added? - Abbie
We can say for sure that there will be, though at the moment it’s too early to tell what those animals will be. The next version of Minecraft, 1.18, doesn’t have any new friendly mobs added to it at the moment. But keep an eye out for 1.19, because when that comes out (probably next year!), we’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t have a new mob!
ASK US ANYTHING Blast resistance is low on sand
6. The full list includes andesite, Will there be warden eggs when wardens are added to the game? - Jude blackstone, cobblestone,
deepslate, diorite, granite, stone and tuff. Obsidian has the highest blast resistance of all naturally occurring Overworld blocks, which is 1200 (essentially indestructible). End stone has the highest blast resistance of any stone – a blast resistance of 9.
Almost certainly! Although we’ll have to wait and see. Every other mob has a spawn egg, though, so it will be surprising if they don’t. But who knows what will happen if they get spawned in daylight! When we do our 1.18 preview, which should be in the next issue, we’ll see if we can find out!
Is it true if you smelt raw iron, it will become iron ore? – Kitty
What stone block in the Overworld has the highest blast resistance? Samuel
If anything, that’s backwards! Iron ore can be mined into raw iron and smelted into iron ingots. Raw iron can also be smelted into iron ingots. There’s no way to create iron ore manually outside of Creative mode!
Most stone blocks have a blast resistance of
Thanks again, everyone! See you next month! Have YOU got a question for us about Minecraft? Then email incoming@everythingmw.com
We’re sure there will be new mobs soon

MEXICAN TRAIN STATION
N I A R TBUILDS
How many train jokes do you think we can get into one intro? We’re chuffed our top ten builds this month are railway related. We think these are on the right track, so all aboard! We don’t want the next few pages to hit the buffers, do we?! Travel in style!
Here’s a good place to start. There are lots of realistic train station recreations that people have built using Minecraft, and they can take you right around the world. We haven’t visited the Aguascalientes train station in Mexico that builder Pitonixrex has recreated here, so we can’t confirm how accurate it is. But it does look excellent! tinyurl.com/mcw83topten10
I RCITY125
Intercity trains ran around the UK d ing the 1980s, and 125 denoted the m les per hour speed they could reach! Y don’t see them on the railways a more, but they have popped up in Minecraft. That’s thanks to the work of ibuildstuff_mc, who has put this o e together! Hopefully, it comes with some comfy chairs on board too… nyurl.com/mcw83topten9
Just the ticket!

LONDON UNDERGROUND
Right on track!
Not all trains travel overground, of course, and if you’ve ever been to London, you might have travelled on its underground system (otherwise known as the Tube). This build, from Kresentia, is a snapshot of the Jubilee Line on the underground network, complete with a train too. Hopefully, it smells nicer than the real thing! tinyurl.com/mcw83topten8
CORONATION SCOT
ought to Minecraft by JoaoDaFonseca, this is a brilliant ossover from a real-life train to mething that fits perfectly in locky world! A lot of thought work has been put into the r creation of the driver’s cab on top the train’s exterior. If we could just t e this train and put it into some of t e stations on this list, it would all perfect! t nyur .com mcw8 topten

ANVERS
Here’s another real-life train station brought to life in Minecraft, and this time we’re heading off to Belgium! This is Antwerp Central Station, which a Minecraft user with the brilliant handle LordOfPotato has built. The detail inside and out is really something, and the screenshot doesn’t do it justice. tinyurl.com/ mcw83topten6 Great start to a journey

GHOSTTRAIN!
Let off steam!
Here’s something a little bit different: a spooky train coming out of a portal! It does qualify for this list after all, as it’s still a train, but we’re not sure we’d be looking to catch this one in a hurry. Just look at the skull on the front of it! Well done to ImRandomm and NRGmix, the two people who put this one together! tinyurl.com/mcw83topten5
THOMASTHE TANKENGINE
Spooooky Express!
Here’s someone we reckon quite a few of you might just recognise! Thomas The Tank Engine has been faithfully serving the residents of Sodor for years, and now we get to enjoy him in Minecraft as well! CraftyFoxe is the person behind this one, and we wonder now if they’ll be tempted to bring some of Thomas’s many chums along too! tinyurl.com/mcw83topten4
CARGOTRAIN
All the bells and whistles!
T s is a really, really detailed l omotive build from designer SebHAHA. They’ve matched it closely t eal-life train, which accounts f all the little extras you get in this p ticular creation. We don’t know about you, but we could easily see this t ndling along the tracks! t yurl.com/mcw83topten3

HANGZHOU INCHINA
For the last of our builds based on real stations, we’re heading off to China and to Hangzhou. This is Hangzhou East station, which has been recreated by GNwork, and as you can see a lot of effort has gone into making it look as authentic as possible. We’re going to bet that this one took a long time to complete, and went through a few delays before getting back on track! tinyurl.com/ mcw83topten2
Next stop, Hangzhou!
FICTIONALTRAINSTATION In this countdown, we’ve looked at a few real-life train stations brought to the world of Minecraft. Yet we’re going to finish with one that’s been made up. It’s from The Jeroen, who’s taken influences throughout history to come up with somethin reall rather s ecial. The ’ve called
it Enbarr Station, and the detail in it is quite stunning. Wonderful work, and well worth getting a ticket for! tinyurl.com/mcw83topten1

ENDERMEN THEORY
I wanted to tell you about my theory of Endermen. They were once black sheep, then the player was a mob, and they bred with each other like most mobs do (zombies etc). And then they found another dimension and a boss! The Ender Dragon is the boss! By the way, I was the one in the Respawn Anchor issue who did the picture of The End. But I am now 7 and not 6. I am moving to Australia in June and really hope I can find your magazine and get a subscription. Oliver, Age 7 Good luck with your big move, Oliver, and thanks so much for sending in your theory! What does everyone else think?!

CAN YOU BUILD THIS?
To give your bridge a bit of variation, add some lights, but don’t light it all the way. We put sea lanterns right on top of the support pillars to mark the top of the bridge, but you could also place some under the base or further down. The walkway for our bridge runs all the way down the centre, and we built it out of wooden plank slabs to give it a distinct look, like an actual suspension bridge! For the tension cables at the ends of the bridge, we filled the entire gap in with railings to make it seem more closed off. In real life, the cables at either end are similar to the ones in the middle, but in Minecraft it’s fun to g u

Why not add a second level to your bridge, so two lanes of traffic can travel at once? You could even double the width of your bridge and have two traffic lanes running side-byside! JAVA SEED: -7723111952658105284 VERSION TESTED: 1.17.1 Starting in the middle of an ocean, you’ll find yourself on an archipelago consisting of one huge island surrounded by lots of smaller ones. On that island, you’ll find nothing but trees, some friendly animals, a pumpkin patch… and a fully established pillager outpost! Can you clear the pillagers before they get you? Check out the waters around the island too for a shipwreck, a couple of partially surfaced geodes AND a set of underwater ruins. Whether you go straight for the kill or not, there’s plenty to do!

BADLANDS MANSION
BEDROCK SEED: -94425921 VERSION TESTED: 1.17.11 One of our most requested seed types, this Bedrock-only seed starts you as close as possible to a woodland mansion. Simply head towards the dark oak forest, and you’ll quickly spot it. As a bonus, the spawn point is on the edge of a HUGE Badlands biome, which is pretty rare. Head into the forests beyond the mansion and you’ll also find a pillager outpost, and just behind that a massive village with tonnes of loot for you to, ahem, appropriate. There’s loads of fun stuff in this seed, so don’t say we never give you anything!
