Fashion Designer of The Month: “Angelina Mushala”
When the colors mix on a fabric to form bold, vibrant designs, you get a stunning African print. Tanzanian designers are not letting that opportunity pass by, they use all their imagination to create masterpieces.
They are claiming the fashion industry stage from the Swahili Fashion Week in Dar es Salaam to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. Tanzanian designers are pushing the boundaries with a simple “Kitenge” leaving masterpieces in their wake.

Every month Dar Life dedicates this section to young emerging and wellknown designers who want to create brands and use the fashion platform as a stepping stone towards achieving their dream. This month we met Angelina Mushala whose ideas in designing clothes and accessories are amazing, you must watch out!
Angelina Mushala is a Tanzanian-American fashion designer. She is motivated to create unique and detailed designs. Her vision is to create looks with an African Asterisk. Miss Mushala started showcasing at non-for-profit organizations at the age of 18. In an effort to fulfill her vision, she founded her brand Ashubira Designs.
Through her brand, she has showcased in a number of fashion shows including; DC Fashion week, Atlantic city fashion week, Swahili fashion week, The Black Expo event at Wells College in New York, the end of the year African Student Association event at the University of Maryland, and The Ankara Night Annual Fashion Show at Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach.
Also, her undergraduate senior thesis collection “Bold Dreamer” was featured in the 2019 BmoreArt Magazine. She is excited to network and showcases her art.
I am motivated to create unique and detailed designs. I consider myself highly ambitious and willing to meet and exceed all requirements. What distinguishes my creations from other designers is my boldness to explore and use different pattern designs to create my work. My concept is derived from culture, personality, and elegance. The goal of my fashion career is to bring my ideas to life and give people the opportunity to resonate with my creativity. In the future, I would love to pursue a career in the fashion industry, specifically designing red carpet dresses and costumes for movies and music performing artists. I want my designs and outfits to exude my passion for my artistic expression.
