Artfully Sorted, going the extra mile Charissa Risley tells how twenty two artists contributed to climate change awareness

A

rt has the power to benefit lives in so many ways. From brightening walls in people’s homes, to providing an outlet and profession for those bursting with creativity, to boosting one’s wellbeing through the uplifting sensory experience when looking at a beautiful piece of art. 2020 saw another incredible result from working with art, namely saving eco-systems and conserving our planet. Our art consultancy Artfully Sorted held an online art exhibition ‘Nature Reflected’ last year featuring work from 22 artists, many of whom are award winning, inspired by nature and the environment. The show coincided with the UN World Environment

Day and was in support of international conservation charity, World Land Trust, through a percentage of art sales. The idea to support World Land Trust as our chosen charity, which counts Sir David Attenborough as its patron, actually came from one of our artists, Wimbledon based Jo Holdsworth. What a superb choice that was, as through our virtual art exhibition, we found artworks new homes and contributed to the groundbreaking work this amazing charity does in protecting our planet’s most threatened habitats and species with our fundraising. In fact, World Land Trust featured Artfully Sorted as one of their Inspiring Fundraisers of 2020 in a newsletter

thanking those individuals “who went the extra mile to raise funds for nature and helped deliver staggering conservation wins”. This trailblazer of a charity in 2020 alone saved over 2 million acres of land, protecting Cameroon’s Great Apes to the Choco Forest in Ecuador – incredible! There was good news from 2020 after all. With the UN’s assembly on the Environment upon us, the importance of raising awareness around the issues of climate change come to the focus again. What our own experience at Artfully Sorted shows is even the smallest of actions, such as an art sale raising funds for a conservation charity, can lead to lasting positive effects on our environment. n
