‘This Exploited Land of Iron’ – A talk by Tom Mutton, North York Moors National Park 150 years ago many parts of the North York Moors looked very different to the present day as a short but intense period of ironstone mining and railway construction left a huge impact on the landscape and its communities. The Exploited Land of Iron project will tell the fascinating story of this trailblazing period of industrial growth and exploitation. Vintage Vehicle Rally

A variety of rare and unusual vintage vehicles from across the North East and Yorkshire regions gather again for this popular event, activities include mini train ride, arts and crafts and children’s entertainer. £2 entrance fee for adults, £1 for children, under 5’s are free and family members go free.

Play and display: paper and card toys

Relive childhood memories with this charming exhibition of paper and card toys. Paper and card toys began to be commercially produced from the mid 1800s and all kinds of affordable yet delightful toys have been produced since then. The collection in this exhibition demonstrates how popular, versatile and enchanting paper and card toys have been over the years. Examples of paper dolls, theatres, puppets, panoramas and cut-out books, dating from the 1880s to the 1960s are included. Normal entrance fee.

North Eastern Railway Cottage Homes 100 Anniversary Saturday 7th September - Sunday 1st December 2019 Temporary Exhibition Gallery

This exhibition will look at the history of the North Eastern Railway Cottage Homes and Benefit Fund, which was formed in 1919 with the purpose of providing homes for railwaymen incapacitated during World War I, the widows and families of railwaymen killed during the war and for employees compelled to retire through ill health. Normal entrance fee.

Thursday 3rd October 2019 at 1.45pm Meeting Room ‘Three Greener’s of Etherley and a Model Steam Engine’ – A talk by Dr Tom Walker Dr Tom Walker is a retired GP and has carried out extensive research on the family history of the Greener family of Etherley and their contribution to the development of early railways. It is hoped that Dr Walker will bring with him his model steam engine which is the oldest model steam engine in the world.
