Dear Parents and Carers, th
Re – Educational diagnostic assessment and career exploration - Year 10 Friday 7 March. I write today to provide you and your son with notification and details of an important upcoming event your son will be involved in later this term. During Term 2 staff in the Teaching and Learning Office here at the College will commence planning which subjects will be offered and taught in Year 11 during the 2015 academic year. A major part of this process is to provide detailed information about the content of different subjects to both you and your son, as well as gather responses as to the subjects he wishes to undertake in Preliminary course in Year 11. If you wish you son to continue his studies at St Joseph’s in Years 11and 12, during Term 2 you will be invited to be involved in this process of selecting appropriate subjects he will study over those two years. This process will involve:
receiving printed material that will further outline in detail the various steps in this process receiving a copy of the Subject Selection Handbook for the Preliminary Course in Year 11 2015 receiving an invitation to attend the Year 11 2015 Subject Selection Information Evening held here at th the College on Saturday 26 July at 6.30 pm (the evening prior to the Parent Teacher Interviews on th Sunday 27 July) attending an interview with your son in Term 3 where you will have the opportunity to discuss and finalise his planned pattern of study with a senior member of the College staff.
In order to make the most appropriate selection of subjects for Year 11 and 12 that will suit you son’s ability and interests, it is important that we have an up to date diagnostic assessment of his academic strengths, personal interests, possible career aspirations and areas of study he is interested in pursuing. th
Therefore, on Friday, 7 March all students in Year 10 will complete a series of educational diagnostic assessment tasks that will provide valuable information which will greatly assist in this subject selection decision making process. This assessment will be administered by an external group [Robert Allwell Educational Consultants] and will take approximately 4 hours to complete. The results of this assessment will then be mailed home in time to assist in the appropriate selection of courses for Year 11. These results will also be made available to Mrs Lorna Charters, the College Careers Adviser, who will assist and advise students during the subject selection process. The cost of this assessment this year is $70 per student and this amount will be included on your school fee account. If for some reason you do not wish to have your son included in this diagnostic assessment please contact either Mr Paul Brooks, Director of Teaching and Learning [9816 0945] , Dr Mark Fenech, the Year 10 Academic Coordinator [9816 0822] or myself [9816 0888] as soon as possible. In past years access to this assessment report has provided valuable assistance in determining the best selection of courses for our students and I strongly urge you to allow your son to be involved in this th assessment on the 7 March. Sincerely, Mark Williams Dean of Studies
