Important Components That Affect the Exhaust System of Your Car
A car’s exhaust system is a network of connected pipes and parts designed to filter and route emissions from the engine towards the tailpipe.
There are many components in your car that contribute to the exhaust system but are least known to the drivers.
So, let us know the important components that affect the exhaust system of your car.
Oxygen sensor
The oxygen sensor is located near the manifold and transmits the reading of the oxygen level to the control unit of the car.
This decides the flow of fuel and to determine the ratio of the fuel mixture in order to get the best efficiency.
A malfunctioning oxygen sensor affects engine performance and needs to be checked as soon as possible.
Exhaust manifold
The exhaust manifold collects the exhaust gases from each cylinder through valves and passes it towards the catalytic converter.
A leaking manifold burns the exhaust valves which can impact the performance of the pistons and hence the engine.
Sputtering, sluggishness, and strange noises like ticking or clicking, and other problems are all symptoms of a compromised exhaust manifold.
Catalytic converter
The catalytic converter converts the harmful carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon gases into carbon dioxide and water vapor.
The catalytic converter needs to be properly working for having a safer environment.
Smell of rotten egg means a faulty catalytic converter and that must be replaced as it cannot be repaired.
Muffler
The work of the muffler is to muffle the extreme levels of noise produced in the engine and throughout the exhaust system.
The muffler is a metal chamber attached to the tailpipe assembly at the rear of the car.
It contains a series of baffles and as the sound traverses them, it dissipates and finally, the resonator cancels out the sound waves.
