REGATTA

In it’s 39th year, the Beer Can Regatta is a fantastic day for the whole family with beach events for all ages and spectacular water events.

After the first success in 1974, it was decided that it would be an annual event developing into a major event on the Darwin social and tourism calendar. The main boat races are between boats built out of beer or softw drink cans with boat entries ranging in numbers from 15 to 65, and can range from one metre to twelve metres. Often these “vessels” are fitted, sometimes badly, with fire hoses and top secret “weaponry”. The water won’t be the only thing on display, with a variety of on-land activities including tug-of-war competitions, kid beach races, ladies and mens thong throwing competition and Hole-in-one, a test of skill over both land and water where the participant needs to land a golf-ball into a bucket on a dinghy about 70 metres off-shore. Mindil beach Market Stalls will operating all day, including bar facilities as there is no BYO due to licensing. The Beer Can Regatta will be held on Sunday 15th of July 10am - 5pm down at Mindil Beach. Entrance is a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the charities and projects of the combined Lions Club of Darwin. 63 N T LIFE

restaurant and party bar

Ideally located in the middle of Mitchell Street, Monsoons offers a contemporary, chic and relaxing setting as well as a fun and exciting party atmosphere whilst holding on to traditional pub values.

Now boasting Darwin’s longest bar, the venue has come a long way from its early days as Darwin’s original cinema. The remodelling and restoration has transformed the building into a vibrant and trendy city venue perfectly suited to a casual meal, business meeting or after work drink and also caters for small to large private functions. Monsoons focus is on great beer, distinctive wines at affordable prices, fresh easy food, and outstanding service. The chef ’s daily specials highlighting seasonal ingredients and the new Tapas & Pizza menus have proven very popular. Fitting in perfectly with our Northern Territory lifestyle and climate, the massive alfresco dining area is ideally built for a sunny afternoon, but more importantly in the wet season, the area is fully covered from the elements. With live entertainment seven nights a week, it’s not just the beer or our award winning menu that’s worth stopping for. Monsoons is

fast becoming Darwin’s entertainment ‘gem’ with local & interstate acts. Add to that an award winning gaming room and Keno… and you’ll understand why Monsoons really is Darwin’s biggest party bar. Utilising the framework of the original cinema building, an amazing building which survived Cyclone Tracy in 1974, Monsoons has gone through an impressive renovation in keeping with traditional values of the Australian pub, blending old with new by adding strong architectural design elements. The tiered seating of the cinema above meant that not even one quarter of the large building was utilised. New owners had the entire building gutted in November 2006 and embarked on a project that would change the building forever. They began to remodel and re-style the interior to become a two story building – with a ground floor venue (Monsoons) now double the size and the entire building now two and a half times the size. 99 N T LIFE

For a big atmosphere, live music, or simply a drink or two, you can’t go past the comfortable cool surrounds of Monsoons.

Deep Tissue Massage (Oil Massage) Deep tissue massage is a style of massage that is designed to get into the connective tissue of the body. Deep tissue massage uses a variety of techniques to deeply penetrate the muscles and fascia, loosening them and releasing tension. Many clients have a more intense experience with a deep tissue massage, but also feel that it is more beneficial, because it addresses deep-seated muscle pains. Relaxation massage (Oil Massage) This kind of massage is oil based and uses gentle, soft, slow hand and elbow movements that are rhythmic and flowing at the appropriate pressure which you need. The pressure is deeply relaxing, but not painful. 112 N T LIFE

Dry massage Dry massage focuses on the meridians, acupressure points and sore spots in order to alleviate muscular pain and joint problems. The benefits of the dry massage also include promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, enhancing flexibility of joints, and calming your mind. Foot Massage (reflexology) Reflexology works on reflex zones on our feet that correspond to different organs, glands and other areas of the body. By stimulating these special areas, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related parts of the body. Hot stone massage Hot stone massage is based on classic massage therapy and the application of heated smooth, flat stones to massage the whole body. These special stones are placed on key points on the body, and also held by massage therapist to scrape, glide and press certain areas of the body. The warmth of stones has a variety of benefits, such as improving circulation, relieving muscular ache, calming the nervous system, and rebalancing the body and mind.
