TECHNOLOGY AS AN ENABLER
4/
City Garden
After spending several day-parts on conducting interviews in the Gildebuurt and Hemelrijken neighbourhoods, we noticed a lack of connection, neighbours were not sharing all the potential space they have in common. Therefore, we wanted to improve social interaction, through the mean of technology, to offer them a place where they can come together, enjoy the public space and be aware of it.
Park and Playground Gildebuurt
But that was before we had an inspiring meeting with the founder of ‘Buurtsalon Bakker 4’, Gildebuurt community centre, and we presented her our idea. While explaining the part of technology as enabler a bit more, she got really excited; she explained all the activities, events and initiatives that already take place and how our beacons could connect these, as we call it, islands of activity. We involved her existing structure in our network proposal. That means our conclusion could not have been more wrong, although we now have something really great to connect.
A place where people can grow their crop and vegetables. • People from different cultures educate each other about food from their home country • In a connecting restaurant the menu is based on the crops that grow in the city garden in that specific period

We could use our technology to pitch a network of activity by connecting the islands, created by the community centre. Technology is accessible to everyone, it informs people of ongoing activities and current events and enables them to initiate activities and to interact with others. This technology is provided by an object familiar to the city, the Citybeacon™, thanks to it people can subscribe and propose activities from out places all over Eindhoven.
