Former MTSU defensive lineman Jimmy Staten was the 32nd and final pick of the first round. He was attending his college graduation when he found out. That’s right. He had his cell phone on during the ceremony and took the call from Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider while sitting in his cap and gown. When he learned of Staten’s selection, MTSU president Sidney McPhee interrupted the graduation ceremony to share the news with the crowd gathered at the Murphy Center. Staten was the first MTSU player to be drafted since 2011. The best part of the story, for me, is the fact that he was at his college graduation when he got the news. Perhaps the concept of “student-athletes” isn’t dead yet…

I Challenge The World The other day, I was out for an easy jog, but soon found myself sprinting up the side of a rather large and long foothill, why? Why would I challenge that hill on such an average day? Simple, because, I am not average, I do not wish to participate in mediocrity and I don't want to be a number amongst the many, a dot in an endless crowd of GroupThinkers. So, I challenged the hill, why - because it was there, and I hereby challenge the world too, for the same reason.

You see, it is time for humans to get a move-on, get out of this rut of victimhood and of false leaders spewing nonsense, gallivanting around less than scantily clad.

It's time to call out the Teleprompters In Chief, the socalled Emperors, and the mucky mucks who've self-ordained themselves our fearless leaders while they hide behind their security forces afraid to come out in public. Why, because we are

here and their power is illusionary. For those who blindly follow, well you are no friend to humanity, nor are you noble with integrity, indeed, those who will not stand up and challenge the unfounded, undeserved and illegitimate pedestal and ivory tower sitters are just as dastardly as our false leaders. HOUSTON (UPI) - Houston police are trying to wipe out a recurring crime wave by flushing out the identity of a man who has been caught on surveillance cameras going No. 2 on lawns and driveways in the city’s Woodland Heights neighborhood. The disgruntled dumper has been leaving messes all over the neighborhood, and has pooped at one house at least six times. “It’s definitely not a nice thing to do to people,” said

“Going to the bathroom in their driveway is not nice. That’s definitely not something that’s supposed to go on in polite society.”

It is believed that the “serial pooper” usually strikes late at night or early in the morning under the cover of darkness. Officials at Honoré-Mercier Elementary School canceled the event after a parent complained that an 11-year-old girl was asked to remove her Bobby Orr Bruins jersey on a prior Canadiens jersey day. “She’s been a Boston Bruins fan all her life, so she kinda felt really bad. She felt kind of excluded from the school,” her father, Tony Pasquale, told CBC News.

Pasquale did not make the complaint himself and he was critical of the decision to cancel. “It teaches respect, sportsmanship.

NEW BRUNSWICK - It seems Mike Defazio of Saint John in New Brunswick, Canada recently blew a tire driving over one of several large potholes in his neighborhood. Sick and tired of his local government’s failure to repair the street he took matters into his own hands and spent half a day filling in the potholes using his tractor. Of course, if you know anything about government you know that infrastructure, law, order, justice, education and everything else can just go to hell, but heaven help the individual who bucks the bureaucracy and

tries to solve a problem by himself. Three days later Defazio got a call from the city’s deputy commissioner of transportation informing him he had broken the city’s bylaws and could face a fine.

Apparently they were afraid that a rock could be kicked up and chip a windshield or scratch paint.

Defazio says he was told city crews would be out to remove his work and he would have to cover the costs. That’s right, the city was going to dig up pot holes in the street and charge him for the labor to do it. Brilliant. So he was forced to hire a crew and return the street to its original pot-holed state himself.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (UPI) - During the arrest of a Massachusetts man, a police officer classified a piece of hot pizza as a “dangerous weapon” after it caused first- and seconddegree burns. James Vincent Grass allegedly shoved a piece of freshly-microwaved pizza into a 6-yearold girl’s face and was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment of a child. The 21year-old denied the charges against him during his arraignment. In his incident report, Officer Terry Dec wrote the girl said Grass “threw a piece of pizza in her face” when she stopped the microwave because it was steaming. When she tried to explain, Grass grabbed the pizza and asked

Alter Bridge Brings their Fortress

It’s hard to believe that Alter Bridge has been around for ten years. It’s even odder to think they were formed from the ashes of Creed. That’s right if you think about it, Alter Bridge is Creed with Myles Kennedy instead of Scott Stapp singing. The big difference is the music.

The Kids Are Alright While the first Saturday in May means its time for the annual Running of the Chihuahuas, there was a great amount of noise coming from the stage at the First Tennessee Pavilion in Chattanooga. A group of up and coming artists put on a show for the young fans in attendance. All are on their way up and some may become the next Austin Mahone who has really broken big the in past year. In fact, a few years ago Mahone was one of the acts here at the Hits 96 Running of the Chihuahuas. This year featured everything from a hippop group featuring two female and two male singers/ rappers (My Crazy Girlfriend), a singer/songwriter with local roots (Bean) to an indie rock import three-piece from Sweden (Nonono), a trio of teen pop rockers from Ohio (New Hollow) and a band – the big draw of the day a pop boy band that featured a member of Big Time Rush (Heffron Drive) who brought the teen girls to their knees. It will be interesting to see who performed will become tomorrow next big thing.
