Why Soccer Matters I’m a bit of a soccer nut. In particular, I am an Arsenal fan. I watch most of my favorite English Premier League club’s matches live over the internet. I spend an inordinate amount of time tracking Arsenal news, transfer rumors and anything else related to my beloved Gunners. Last Saturday, Arsenal overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Hull City, 3-2, and claim England’s FA Cup. (The FA Cup is a tournament sponsored by Britain’s Football Association that includes teams from several English pro leagues.) After the victory, I saw pictures online of Arsenal fan celebrations. “Gooners” (a nickname for supporters of the Gunners) gathered in pubs all over the world. Hungary. Brazil. Singapore. And more. Soccer is a global phenomenon and the teams in the sport’s top professional leagues have a worldwide fan base…

The top two teams in each group advance to a “knockout stage” that climaxes with the final match. The Brazilian hosts have to be considered one of the favorites, along with Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. The U.S. faces Germany, Portugal and Ghana in its group matches and only the incredibly optimistic expect the Americans to make it to the knockout stage…
…I realize that soccer isn’t as popular here in the U.S. as it is in most of the rest of the world. But the WC is still the “measuring stick” of international sports. will judge America’s athletic prowess by how well (or how poorly) our national team performs in Brazil. I expect the sport will get a bump in popularity here after the World Cup, just as it did four years ago. I credit those bumps to the incredible job done in televising soccer… especially compared to the way it was shown in the past. The sport looks incredibly boring when all you have is a long-distance shot showing tiny men chasing a tiny ball around a fairly huge playing field. But close-up video reveals just how athletic and physical world-class soccer players are. (For an “up close and personal” look at highlevel soccer, I recommend that you attend a Chattanooga Football Club match. Go to www.chattanoogafc.com for the CFC schedule.)… …Soccer’s immense worldwide popularity is a direct result of the game’s simplicity. Yes, you need an official goal on each end for a “real match,” but the
main requirement for a game of pick-up soccer is a ball. A pile of rocks or a stack of jackets will suffice as an improvised goal. The sport is played in streets and parks all over the globe. For the most part, soccer

There’s a position on the soccer field for young athletes of various skill levels. The sport is relatively low-scoring, so there’s not a lot of pressure for everyone to get a goal. A kid can never score a goal and still have a great season…
…I don’t expect all Americans to share my love of soccer. But I urge all patriotic sports fans to tune in to the U.S. matches in next month’s World Cup. If the Americans manage to advance to the knockout stage of the competition, it will be a true victory for U.S. soccer. MONEY MANAGEMENT
HOW DO MINIMUM WAGE LAWS AFFECT ME? Sometimes the duty to give money advice journeys into remote areas. This is one such example of that truth. Many people think that the debate over minimum wage won't effect them at all, that is except those who make the minimum wage. The truth is that these laws are destructive and only sound good on the surface to those who don't understand their consequences. In this post, I will explain two significant drawbacks to having a minimum wage law. First, minimum wage laws decrease both the productivity and efficiency of businesses. For business owners, it presents a real conundrum. Imagine that you own a restaurant and you have to pay your chef the same wage as your dishwasher. Does that seem right? Does one
employee have more important skills to the business than the other? The dishwasher only gathers and washes dishes, a skill that many people qualify for. Your chef can cook various high quality dishes and produces a product that makes most of the money for the business. Not everyone can cook well, so there are less people that could fill this role. The problem is that you have to pay both employees the same wage even though they're not equal in terms of importance to the business. Worse, the business might be able to hire more people if it could set wages based on free market principles. There is historic proof that wage control laws create more unemployment than would exist in a free market.
quence is inflation. Every time wages are raised, it increases costs for businesses because they have to pay more money to their staff. To maintain their profits the businesses are forced to react. These costs are then passed on to consumers in the form of price increases on all their products. This creates inflation for not only the people making minimum wage but also the general public. Because most minimum wage jobs are present in essential businesses like grocery stores, restaurants and retail outlets, it means wage costs rise for all of these businesses. This means that prices increase for everyone on most everyday items. This leaves everyone with less money that they can save and actually produces no net change in wealth in The second negative conse- the end. What I've written

here will shock most people but it's 100% true. Although almost everyone thinks that the minimum wage is a good thing, the result has historically proven to be higher levels of unemployment and higher prices on everyday goods. Truly free markets regulate themselves better and prevent these artificial consequences that were born out of good intentions. So as the minimum wage law debate rages, think twice about "watching what you wish for". I encourage you to think about what you've read here and draw your own conclusion after your own self study. I am confident however, that you'll arrive at the same conclusion that you have read here.

Free Speech and Political Correctness - What About Freedom of Speech Or Was That a Myth? There are Senators right now who want to change the way we view free speech in our society, and they want to pass laws to prevent dissent. Interestingly enough, those who have come up with these draconian changes were once themselves the opposition party claiming that their own voices had been limited, squelched, and their right to free speech violated. One can be sure that those bullied previously are often called into their own mirrors once the revolution runs full cycle and they are in charge, in other words, these Democrat Senators want to limit their political oppositions arguments or criticism. Let's talk because this is not all that is going on in the free speech space right now.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (UPI) Florida police officers who were attempting to catch a suspected car thief got a little help when an alligator decided to cross the road. Port St. Lucie police were on the lookout for a man they suspected had taken at least five cars from parking lots at Walmart, Sam’s Club and Publix. Officers eventually spotted Calvin Rodriguez in a Honda
Civic and tried to stop him. Unfortunately, the car “began driving at a high rate of speed and was lost sight of.” That’s when the alligator stepped in. Police were able to catch up with Rodriguez when he hit the alligator and was stopped. “The Honda was later discovered to have crashed into an alligator, causing it to crash into a median,” according to a police report. “This shows that Calvin was in control of the Honda that struck the alligator and the

Keith Boham told WPTV.

COLLEGE STATION, TX - You would think, if you had a 12-foot python as a pet, that you would keep an eye on it, but apparently the conventions of pet ownership in Texas are a little more relaxed than elsewhere. Because just such a specimen managed to show up in the tub of a startled Central Texas woman. Police believe the African python slipped into the house of Veronica Rodriguez when she left the back door open after bathing her three household guinea pigs and putting the critters in outdoor pens. Rodriguez says she heard strange noises, returned to the bathroom and discovered the snake crawling into the tub. She called 911. I didn’t know guinea pigs needed baths, but if anything would attract a python I would imagine three of them splashing around in water would do it. Animal control officers removed the snake, using a city trashcan as a temporary receptacle for the reptile, after which it was returned to its owner. No guinea pigs were harmed.

JAMES GREGORY
JAMES DOES NOT “TIP-TOE” THROUGH LIFE AS IF HE’S WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS OR EGG SHELLS. THAT STYLE IS EVIDENT ON STAGE AS WELL. HE IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT. MUCH OF HIS HUMOR IS CENTERED ON BRILLIANT OBSERVATIONS OF CRAZY RELATIVES AND PEOPLE’S OBSESSIONS.
JULY 16 ONE SHOW ONLY!
MICK FOLEY
HE'S A THREE-TIME WWE CHAMPION, A HARDCORE LEGEND AND A MEMBER OF THE WWE HALL OF FAME. NOW, MICK FOLEY IS UNLEASHING THE SAME TRADEMARK BLEND OF WIT AND WISDOM, WILDNESS AND WARMTH THAT MADE HIS BOOKS SO BELOVED (FIVE SELF-PENNED NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERS) INTO HIS ONE-MAN SPOKEN-WORD STAGE SHOW, “TALES FROM WRESTLING PAST”.
